Chapter Three: Cody and Sid

POV: Sid

I don't think I even looked at Cody for the remainder of the day. I put my paws in the pockets of my shorts and continued walking towards my house. I knew my first day didn't go too well, and I'm sure Cody feels bad. I don't know why, but I can just see the look in his eyes. On the way back to my place, I was continuously ridiculed for how much of a pussy I was during recess.

I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder, where Trevor had punched me earlier. 'Why can't people just get along?' I continuously asked myself. Then a thought crossed my mind. Cody had mentioned earlier that his friend Josh had heard from somebody else about the rumour that was spread. The rumour that fuelled the fight in the courtyard, and the rumour which caught me off-guard.

I scratched the side of my neck and glanced at the road beside me. I would look back to check if Cody was following me, as if a part of me wished that he was. 'Almost there.' I thought to myself as my house came into view. I never thought that I would've been so happy to see my home again. My home has always been a safe haven for me, where nothing or no one could hurt me. Though I never really thought openly about that.

I shook away those thoughts and stepped onto the front yard. Man, I never thought about how amazing it felt to be home. I reached into the mailbox and pulled out a few letters. I glanced through the pile of letters and threw a few into a nearby bin. I glanced at the street and noticed a familiar face running towards me. I swear I heard him shouting at me.

It was Cody. It would be too awkward to speak to him now. I carelessly threw the rest of the mail in the bin and ran to the front door.

"Wait!" I could heard him shout. I quickly opened the door and slammed it behind me. I turned and faced the door. My paw reached for the lock and I turned it slowly.

I didn't see the car in the driveway, so my parents must be out of the house. I took advantage of being alone and jumped on the couch. I could hear Cody knocking on the door. I decided to ignore it and grabbed the remote to the television. As time passed, the knocking intensified and the sound started to bother me.

"Oh my god..." I muttered to myself as I jumped off the couch. "Could you just leave me...alone?" I unlocked and opened the door. It was my mother, and she looked pissed. "I've been knocking for fifteen minutes! Why didn't you let me in?" She asked, entering the house. "And the key isn't under the mat where it should be." She shut the door behind her and looked at me.

"I thought you were someone else." I replied. "I'm sorry." I apologized.

"It's fine. Was it that kid who was sulking on the curb?" She asked, pointing out the window. I walked over to the window and looked through.

"There's nobody on the curb." I answered, glancing back at her.

"Well, there was somebody on the curb not too long ago. In fact, I could've sworn he was crying." Mom gave me a cold look. "What did you do to him?" She asked.

I just rolled my eyes. "Look mom, just drop it." I said, walking over to the kitchen and opening the fridge. "It isn't important." I added, pulling out a half-full energy drink from my backpack and putting it in the fridge.

"Whatever, just be sure you apologize to him." Mom said, as I shut the fridge.

"Yeah, I'll be sure to." I pushed past her and walked upstairs. I opened the door to my room and threw my bag on the floor.

I sat on the side of my bed and pulled off my shirt. I threw my shirt across the room, onto the floor. I laid on my bed and stared at the ceiling. I closed my eyes and tried to forget about the events that unfolded today. But it was impossible, my mind was plagued with harsh insults thrown at me during the day.

The average insults such as 'asshole' and 'dumbass' didn't offend me as much as a few others did. The main things that hurt me the most was 'faggot' and 'homo'. Those two words...it made me feel sick just thinking about them.

I never really knew about my sexuality. I tried to avoid any of that and just stick to my schoolwork. But now that I think about it, my mind is all over the place. I guess my parents guessed that I wasn't a homosexual, due to me having girlfriends all through middle school.

Though, now that I think about it, none of the relationships ever worked out. 'Could I be gay?' I asked myself. My door opened and mom walked in.

"Sid?" I turned over and glanced her. "I can tell that something's the matter. What is it?" She asked, sitting on the side of the bed.

"First day..." I muttered.

"Didn't go well, eh? I'm sorry Sid." She apologized. "Is there anything I can do for you, pup?" She asked, in a quiet tone.

"Not really." I simply replied. "I think I just want to be left alone." I sat up and smiled at her.

"You know, you can_talk to me Sid. I _am your mother after all." She placed her paw on my shoulder. "There's almost nothing you can tell me that would surprise me." She stared intently into my eyes.

I brushed her paw away and sighed. "Look mom, I'm just think about school stuff. It's not too important." I said.

"Well, I think it _is_pretty important." She smirked.

"Why do you think that?" I queried.

"Well, you're lying in your bed, shirtless and you aren't acting like your normal self." Mom studied me. "And can you explain why the kid outside was crying about you?" She asked, in a stern voice.

"Fine! You want me to explain?" I stood up and faced her.

"He was the first kid I met in school, okay? We had our first class together and then we split up for our second class. I had an argument with this kid during recess and rumours began to spread and it just made it awkward for the both of us to be talking." I explained. "He just..." I sighed. "He just wanted to speak to me before I arrived back, but I shut him out." I sat back down beside her.

"That's....a lot to take in on your first day." She sympathised with me. "What were these rumours?" She asked, in a calmer tone.

"That he was crushing on me." I confessed. "I know it isn't true, but it just made things awkward. So we just avoided each other." I added.

Mom remained quiet for a few minutes, before she began talking again. "I'm not going to comment on that. Just try to speak to him. Resolve it so you can become friends again." She suggested. "You don't want to make any enemies on your first day." She warned.

Mom stood up and placed a kiss on my forehead. I looked up at her and she pushed her muzzle against my cheek. "I'm sorry your first day didn't go too well." She apologized. She walked over to the door and shut it behind her as she exited.

"Sitting here isn't doing me any good." I said to myself getting off my bed. I reached over to my dresser and opened the top drawer. I pulled out a black t-shirt with the sentence; 'Too Young to Rock' written in blue letters printed on the middle.

I walked over to the door and descended down the stairs. I noticed my mother in the kitchen making some food. "When's dad gonna get back?" I asked walking over to the kitchen counter.

"Between seven and eight he said." Mom answered. "Why do you ask?" She glanced at me.

"I think I might go for a walk." I said, grabbing my hoodie from the couch. "Do you mind?" I asked, slipping the hoodie over my shirt.

"No, but do you know where to go?" She asked.

"Not really, but I know how to get back." I replied, giving her a smile. "I'll be back before seven." I pulled up my sleeve and check my wristwatch. "I got less than three hours." I said walking over to the door.

"Be sure to talk to your friend." She reminded me as I exited the house.

'A walk will clear my mind.' I thought to myself as I stepped onto the grass. 'And I can take in the sights of this place while I'm at it.' I thought, putting my paws in my pockets and walking onto the street.

'I wonder how he's doing.' I thought to myself as I descended down the street.

POV CHANGE: Cody

'I wonder how he's doing.' I thought, looking down at the water below me. I had been sitting on the dock for the last half an hour and I hadn't felt any better. My legs dangled over the side of the dock and above the water.

"He hates me." I said to myself. "Stupid school. Stupid Trevor." I sighed.

I had tried to speak to him earlier. Only to get a door slammed in my face. I tried to get him to open, but eventually I gave up. I ended up sitting on the curb, talking to myself. I actually began crying. At the corner of my eye, I noticed someone stop beside me and glance at me for a moment. But as I turned to greet him/her, they'd already entered the house behind me; Sid's house.

Eventually, I ended up walking to the dock. It's sort of like a place where I can rest and talk to myself, without being interrupted. I wiped my eyes of any more tears that had formed earlier and stared at the open ocean ahead of me. I had the urge to just take off my shirt and jump into the water. I had done that before with a few friends a couple of years ago, but I wouldn't be game to do it alone.

Then it hit me. Josh must've told someone else about the rumour. I pulled my iPhone from my pocket and searched through my contacts to find him. Eventually, I found him and I pressed the screen. I put the phone against my ear and waited for him to answer.

One ring. Two rings. After the third ring it went straight to his message bank. "This is Josh Carlton! Thanks for calling bro, whoever you are! Leave a message and I'll get back to ya!" I listened to it, waiting for the beep. After the beep had sounded I left my message.

"Hey Josh, it's just me, Cody. We need to talk when you get the chance." I said. "Call me back." I added, pressing the screen and hanging up. "God I hate this town." I muttered, putting my phone back in my pocket.

I was startled when I heard the sound of footsteps against the dock. I just guessed it was just one of the fisherman setting up a place to fish again. I turned around to greet him, though it wasn't somebody I expected.

"Sid." I said, looking up at the figure.

"Cody." He replied, sitting beside me on the dock.

We remained quiet for a few seconds until I broke the silence. "Look Sid, I'm sorry about today." I apologized.

"No! I should be apologizing, I shouldn't have been such a prick." He sighed. He glanced at me, guilt was plastered on his face. "Can you forgive me?" He asked.

"Of course, what are friends for?" I smiled at him. "I just wish I could've talked to you earlier." I added.

"Sorry about that, I guess I just needed time to think." I heard him sigh. "Look..." He began. He scratched his muzzle and glanced at me. "The rumours aren't true right?" He asked, in a nervous manner.

"Of course not." I chuckled. "It was just bullshit. I didn't even know about the rumour until my friend; Josh told me." I answered.

He looked back out at the ocean. He sighed, he didn't seem very pleased. "Well, anyway, I hope this hasn't created any awkwardness between us." He turned to face me.

"It's only awkward of you make it awkward." I shrugged. "And anyway, I don't think it has." I grabbed my backpack and stood up at the end of the dock. He stood up aswell and stared at me.

"We're still friends?" I asked.

"Yes, we're still friends." He smiled at me. He pulled up the sleeve of his hoodie and glanced at his wristwatch. "It's just past six. I gotta get going before my parents get pissed." He chuckled.

"Alright man, I'll see you at school tomorrow." I watched him walk down the dock and back onto dry land. He turned back and waved at me.

I just shook my head and looked back at the ocean. 'My mom isn't expecting me back until eleven.' I thought to myself. 'Guess I get more time to myself.' I added, sitting back at the end of the dock.

The silence was interrupted by the sound of my phone. It vibrated in my pocket and the ringtone startled me. I quickly grabbed the phone and answered it.

"Yes?" I put the phone to my ear.

"Hey man! It's me Josh!" I could hear his voice and extremely loud music in the background.

"Hey, I just wanted to talk to you." I said.

"What!?" He shouted through the phone.

"I said! I just wanted to talk to you!" I shouted back. "Turn the music down and maybe you'll hear me!" I added.

"Give me a second, dude!" I heard Josh shout back. "Hey dude, can you turn the music down?" He was talking to someone else.

"Hey, what're you? No! Don't touch the fire-..." I heard him arguing with someone in the background. I glanced behind me and noticed fireworks lighting up the sky above Josh's house.

"Works..." I heard him sigh.

"Look dude, I'll talk to you tomorrow, at school, alright? You sound busy." I chuckled.

"Yeah, good idea. See you tomorrow bro." He hang up.

I put the phone back in my pocket and stood back up. I made my way off of the dock and back onto the street. I could hear sirens and a few police cars driving past. "Josh is gonna get it." I chuckled, noticing that the police were headed up to his house.

I adjusted my backpack and walked towards the end of the street. Eventually, I made it to my house. I opened the door and shut it behind me. "I'm back!" I announced, switching on the lights and glancing at the clock above the door.

It was just before seven. "Hey, how was your day?" My mom asked from the kitchen. "I heard that some kid got his face beat in today." She added.

"How do you know that?" I asked, throwing my backpack onto the couch. I sat beside my backpack and glanced over at the kitchen, where my mom was standing.

"Your sister told me." She replied, pointing to the stairs. "And...she also told me that you stood up for him." She pointed at me with a wooden spoon she was using to mix something.

"I guess I did?" I shrugged and switched on the television. "It wasn't much of a big deal. I just felt sorry for the new kid." I jumped off the couch and walked over to the kitchen counter.

"New kid, eh?" She asked, looking at me with a grin. "Who was the new kid?" She added.

"Some kid named Sid Williams. He seems cool." I said leaning on the counter. "We were just talking down at the dock." I added.

"Is he cute?" She asked, winking at me. I could feel my cheeks burning.

"I guess?" I cleared my throat.

"Your sister was also telling me that you were crushing on him." She glancing at the food she was making again. "Is it true?" She asked, smiling at me once again.

"It's just a lie." I quickly defended myself. "And besides, even if I did, I doubt he'd like me back anyway. He probably has a girlfriend already." I sighed.

"So you do like him?" She chuckled. "That's good for you honey." She pulled out a muffin tray from under the counter and emptied the contents of the bowl into the tray.

"Whatever." I rolled my eyes. "I'm going upstairs. Wait...before I go." I said, turning back around.

"Yes?" She asked, putting the wooden spoon in the sink.

"Why are you making muffins at ten to seven?" I asked. "Mid-life crisis?" I chuckled.

"Don't make me used this." She grabbed the wooden spoon and grinned at me again. She grabbed the spoon and playfully hit me on the shoulder with it. "Run." She whispered.

I quickly ran past the couch, swiped my backpack and ran upstairs. "Save me some muffins!" I shouted down the stairs. I walked down the hallway and into my sister's room.

"Sarah." I said, closing the door behind me. She was sitting at her computer desk, typing on her laptop. Sarah was only thirteen, she was a dingo, just like me and had black hair.

"Shut up! I'm talking to Taylor on Facewoof." She said, shooing me out of the room. I rolled my eyes and walked over to the desk. "Go away!" She pushed me away. I chuckled, re-approached her and swiped her laptop. "You ass!" She cursed desperately trying to reach the laptop.

"You won't be able to reach it, sis. You're only 13. And you're much shorter than me." I smiled at her and laughed at her attempts to reach it. She jumped up onto her bed and jumped at me, tackling me to the ground.

I held the laptop in my paws. "Don't EVER touch my stuff again." She said, swiping the laptop from my paws. "Now what do you want?" She asked, jumping back on her bed and opening her laptop.

"I was just checking on my little sister." I made an excuse.

"Don't lie, you know you can't lie to me." She glared at me. "I got two halves of a brain, and you've only got one." She laughed confidently.

"You got two halves of a brain? Did you chop your brain in half or something?" I laughed back at her.

"What? No...I..." She was at a loss for words.

"Nevermind Sarah, I'll see you in the morning." I left the room. "You smug bitch!" I heard her shout as I entered my room.

I removed my shirt and threw in a nearby washing basket. I put my backpack beside my bed and took off my pants. I threw them in the basket and glanced over at the window. I reached over to it and closed the curtains.

I stood there, in my boxers glancing at my bed. I heard my mother walk in. "Going to bed so early?" She asked, studying my appearance. "It's only seven." She added, walking over to my bed.

I covered myself with my blankets and glanced at her. "I'm just pretty tired. Plus I gotta get some sleep for tomorrow, you know." I chuckled nervously. "Got lots of work to do." I added, half-heartedly.

"Sid, you hate school. And stay up as late as you can. And what's this?" She asked, walking over to the basket. "You actually put your clothes in the hamper instead of the floor?" She looked astonished.

"Who are you and what have you done with the real Sid?" She asked, playfully punching my shoulder.

"He's right here, in the flesh." I looked back at her.

"Well, I know why you're so excited for tomorrow." She grinned. I watched my sister walk in. She leant against the door and winked at me.

"I'm sure Sid is real cute." Mom smiled at me. She rubbed her muzzle into my cheek and stood back up. "Sweet dreams." Mom said, walking out of the room. Sarah grinned at me.

"Yeah, sweet dreams." She turned to walk out. She stopped and turned back to me. "Oh, and if you're dreaming about 'Sid'." She chuckled. "Try not to get the sheets wet, I'm sure mom's sick of cleaning all of your messes." She burst out laughing and left the room, slamming the door shut behind her.

"God! I hate you!" I growled at her. I could hear her laughing on the other side of the door. I smiled for a second. "I'll get her back." I muttered. I closed my eyes, but all I could think about was Sid. I could see his chest against mine, our lips meeting and our hands wrapped around each other. I opened my eyes and screamed. I was horrified.

I'm in love with Sid.
