Love from another angle pt. 1: A little heart to heart.
This is a story that I started out in early October 2014. I was helping my classmates out with a story called Without a Clue when this idea popped into my head. This story is my idea of a hard life as a homosexual. Part 2 is currently in progress and should be released before 2016 =P
Sam stepped into the doorway of his house. After another long day of high school, he was ready to have some alone time. As he sat down on his soft, inviting couch, thought about his hard life at school. Sam wondered why others disapproved of him. Was homosexuality against their nature to the point where they must remove all traces of it? Sam didn't care that he was gay, but he did care that others despised him for it. He was tired of hearing "go back in the closet" and "kill yourself" from nearly half the school, but that wasn't the worst of it. Sam hated everyone for it. He hated one kid in particular, Deckland, the most, since he was forever snooping on him, sending his cronies after Sam at his whim. A single tear formed and slid down his cheek.
Sam went up into his room got out his "relief tools" and picked the sharpest ones he could find. He sat down in his bed, closes his eyes and pressed the razor against his wrist. But something held him back from severing his skin. He picked up his phone an called the one person he truly cared for.
"Kane?" Sam stifled into the line. "S'up man?" Just the sound of Kane's voice soothed Sam. "I need you to come over, please. I just need someone to talk to." Sam tried to not sob into his cellphone. Even still, Kane picked up the slightest hint of melancholy . "M'kay. Uh, are you ok? Is something wrong?" All Sam could do was stare at the razor blade still in his hand. With no reply, Kane simply said "Whatever. I'll be over in about fifteen minutes" and hung up.
Suddenly he regained his senses, and found red stains streaking his arm. He slowly blossomed his hand, revealing the gashes created by the now reddened blades. Another tear fell along his cheek, although this was followed by several more tears. All he could do right now was cry into his bloodied hands. He hated himself for being gay, he hated his mom and dad for never being their for him, he hated the school for turning away from him, and worst of all he hated Deckland for exploiting all of these as an effective means of making Sam's life a torturous hell.
His self-mourning was interrupted by the clicks and creaks of the front door opening. "Sam? Are you there?" Sam was glad to have Kane over. Nevertheless, he gloomily replied "I'm up here." He just stared at his cut up hand as he listened to the soft thumps of Kane going up the stairs. He peeked his head into Sam's room. "Did you want to..." He stopped cold when he saw the gashes on Sam's hand, as well as a small pile of razor blades. "Sam! What the hell are you doing?"
Sam didn't even look up to answer. "I think we both know the answer to that question pretty well, Kane." Kane walked over to Sam and pulled out a small roll of gauze. "Here, need some?" He stolidly agreed and wrapped his cut up hand. "Thanks," Sam handed the roll back to Kane, "you know you can sit down if you want to."
Kane sat down beside Sam. "It's Deckland, isn't it?" Sam nodded in response. "That little bastard always punks with me. I swear, if I could just jab him..." He grumbled. Kane looked at him and responded "you know, if he's ever harassing you again, I'll be there to teach him a lesson"
"Thanks" Sam blushed.
"Sam, I need to ask you something" Kane calmly but solidly said. "I've noticed that you act a little unusual whenever I'm around. Is there something going on?" Sam somehow felt a slight tone of excitement, but he put that aside, someone was gonna have to tell Kane, and it might as well be him. Sam prepared for this with a deep breath.
"Kane, there's something I've been needing to tell you for a while now." Sam looked up at Kane with all forms of seriousness. "I love you, Kane. I've loved you for a few years now. " Sam looked back forwards. "I mean, what isn't there to love about you. You're cute, you're smart, you're strong, you're caring, and..."
Sam's list was cut short when Kane grabbed him and silenced his mouth with his own. Sam was caught completely off guard by Kane's sudden kiss, but surprise only flowed through him for not even a second, as he soon melted against his friend. For this short amount of time (that felt like eternity) all of Sam's worries flowed out of him with this kiss.
After what seemed like forever, Kane separated from Sam. Sam was awestruck, completely at a loss of words. Kane, seemingly dumbfounded by his own actions, uttered "I - I had to do it. It only... I just... Ugh. I gotta go." With that, Kane left. Sam could only sit and ponder at what Kane had just done to him.
