A Birthday Secret
This is a work in progress, but I will update it, eventually. This story is originally for bugs46 (https://bugs46.sofurry.com/) from SoFurry. A newly 10 year old white, bunny rabbit has just finished celebrating his 10th birthday party at his house, but what he didn't know was that his school crush dropped in for a surprise sleepover. The rabbit's mother wanted her cub to have more fun after the party, so she invited Jason's (the rabbit) crush, Roger (the badger). Jason told his mother that he wanted the sleepover at the backyard, but what they both didn't know is that their secret love for one another was going to be revealed through a Truth or Dare challenge. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the story. I feel kinda bad for not uploading this earlier. I've just been having a lot of life problems.
Jason perked up his ears at the muffled doorbell that came from downstairs. The 10 year old bunny rabbit presses the bottom right button of his new, red Nintendo 3DS right_after his Pikachu reaches its turn to make a move. He excitedly closes the 3DS and throws it onto his bed before making his way down the stairs. "Oh, boy!" says Jason happily with a big smile on his face. "It's Roger!" Jason almost begins to hop as he gets closer to the front door of his house. He sees his mom open the door as runs towards it. Jason looks outside and notices the smaller figure next to a tall, black and white furred female badger holding Roger's paw with a confident smile. She looked at the taller white rabbit in front of her, "Hi! Thanks for taking care of Roger for tonight. Several of my husband's friends are coming over to watch the football game finale. You know how _that gets." Jason's mother laughed, "Yes, I do. And it's no problem at all. I'm glad that your son had a great time at the birthday party, too. Jason was very happy that you joined us." The female white rabbit's voice sounded warm and welcoming, "Jason also started hopping about the house when I told him that Roger was going to spend the night here." She said with a low, relaxed chuckle. Roger waved at the white rabbit he has known before elementary school. "Come on in, Roger, and make yourself at home." insisted Jason's mother with a warm smile. "Thank you, ma'am." retorted Roger as he stepped inside the house. The two mothers continued to talk about the party as the boys got together. Jason looked at Roger with a big grin as Roger asked, "How's Pokémon: Black so far?" "Are you kidding?!" replied Jason with a sarcastic tone. "It's AWESOME!" He raised a fist into the air. Roger puts his Pokémon book bag on the floor and digs around for his black 3DS. He waves it around to show it off and says, "I'm glad you like it because this means I get to challenge you with my level 40 Raichu." Jason's ears bend back slightly, "Hey! That's not fair! My strongest Pokémon is only a level 20 Pikachu." Roger smiles and laughs, "Then it should be a quick battle!" Jason puffs up his cheeks and turns his grin into a frown. "Oh, come on, Jason! You know I'm just kiddin' with ya!" Roger embraces the angry rabbit with one arm and gives him a nuggie. The white rabbit is overwhelmed by Roger's physical approach and starts to blush as he feels a tingly sensation in his belly. Roger's mom waves good bye to the boys, Jason's mother, and goes to her car. "Alright, boys, just let me know if you two need anything and I'll take care of it, ok? Jason, sweetie, your father should be home in a little bit, so he should be able to help you set up the tent in the backyard." says the taller female rabbit with a sweet voice. Roger looks at Jason puzzlingly, "We're going to sleep in a tent?" The white rabbit twiddles his fingers and looks down while blushing. "I just thought we could do something a little special for my birthday." giggled Jason. The Jason's mother smiled and left them as the boys headed towards Jason's room.
Roger smiles slightly at the familiar Pokémon designed room while Jason fumbles through a small cabinet looking for a Wii game. "Here it is!" Jason holds up the new Super Smash Bros. Brawl game he was bought by another friend with a paw. "Wanna play?" asks Jason with a pleading smile. "Sure!" retorted Roger happily. Jason turns on his Wii as he opens the game cabinet to look for 2 Wii controllers; they chat for a bit about the party.
"So, watdya think about the party? Did everyone else have fun and like it?" Roger asks with a curious tone as he looks around for Jason's new gifts.
"Yeah, it was pretty fun! My parents bought me several clothes -ugh- with games inside in each one." Jason kept looking for all the games he was bought.
"No WAY!" exclaimed Roger with surprise, " Super Smash Bros. Brawl was one of them? What else did they buy you? I bet the others got you a few games, too, knowing that you're such a big gamer and all that." He winks slyly at Jason as he looks behind to look at Roger sitting on the bed.
"I also got Pokémon: White 2." Jason pulls the game from the cabinet and gives Roger a thumbs up and a wink to show it off.
Roger replies jealously, "Aw... What? I asked my parents to get me that game weeks ago and they said I won't get it until my birthday! That's, like, forever from now!" He lies down on the bed, places both paws on his head and groans loudly.
Jason sits on the bed and shows sympathy, "Aw... You can borrow my game until you get yours."
Roger opens his eyes wide and looks at Jason, "Really? You'd let me borrow it until then?"
"Sure." Responds Jason relaxingly.
"Can we play now?" Roger points at the Wii , looking impatient.
Jason laughs as he elbows the fidgety badger, "Hahaha! Hold your horses. The Wii isn't even on yet." Jason gets the Super Smash Bros. Brawl game from its shiny, new case. He immediately inserts the disk after he presses the small, white power button of the console. Jason manages to find a seemingly older version of a Nintendo console from the cabinet full of games. "Why do you have a GameCube controller?" asks Roger with a confused look. Jason connected the controller on top of the Wii , "I've tried playing this game once with the original Wii controller and I sucked. When I tried it with this one, it was much easier to play with." Roger folded his ears and his voice sounded small, "Can I have one, too...?" Jason turned back to look at Roger's face and turned again to look for his original GameCube controller. He pulled a familiar purple Nintendo controller from the cabinet and connected it to the Wii. Roger cheers, "Alright! Now, it's on!" The beautiful game graphics take over the screen after Jason selects the game. Several fictional characters are displayed moving gracefully throughout the screen as they show their battle moves with smooth flow. The TV blares, "SUPER SMAAAASSSHHHHH BRAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWLLLLLL!" Both boys sit on the bed as they grab their controllers, readying themselves to play. The white rabbit's tiny fingers press the start button and select the "Brawl" option tab. Before starting, the rabbit's head turns towards his digital clock in his room, "It's six 'o clock already? Geez..." Roger turns to Jason, "What about it?" The rabbit's eyes turn back to the screen, "No, nothing. I'm just sayin' because my dad is usually here by six thirty. So, we only enough time to play at least 3 matches." "That's fine by me." Roger grins, "I just want to play to beat you." The rabbit's semi high pitched laugh made Roger's face became slightly red after he realized what he said. "Oh, you'll get to try_to beat me." Both boys began selecting their characters. Jason moves the tiny paw on the screen holding the circle tag towards Fox McCloud and presses the big, green "A" button. Roger looked at his pick and asked, "You're choosing Fox?" "Yeah... Something wrong?" The rabbit's big front teeth are shown from his smile as he asked. "It's nothing... Le- Let me pick now." Roger stutters a bit as he tries to pick his second best character. " Sonic." says the game narrator as the badger selects the character. " Sonic , huh? Ok, then... You ready?" Jason doesn't wait for a response and begins the match on a random stage. Fox and Sonic are teleported above Fox's ship, " The Great Fox ," immediately and the fight begins. Fox dashes for Sonic and hits him with a running kick. Sonic takes little damage while he counters with a homing attack on Fox's back. The anthro fox turns around, kneels and swipes his bushy tail on the floor to knock Sonic off his feet; it works. The blue figure quickly bounces back to his feet and attacks with a spinning move as he rolls to push Fox away. Fox falls, but stops his fall with a backward roll and dashes towards the hedgehog once more. Before he realizes, Sonic is sent into the air. It was an illusion! As the hedgehog falls, he reacts with multiple homing attacks. Fox only manages to block one of the attacks before receiving a beating. A capsule falls between the anthro fox's ears as he gets up from the floor. He brushes himself off, grabs the capsule and THROWS it towards Sonic! Sonic grunts from the hit, unable to respond quickly enough, he falls from the stage, but saves himself with his spring recovery move. The hedgehog catches the edge of the ship and hears the crowd gasp. He slowly makes his way back to safe ground, but is caught off guard by Fox's smash kick. Sonic grunts in pain as he flies off the screen and is knocked out from the map. The crowd goes wild and begins to chant, "Go, Fox!" As he re-spawns, he notices a multi-colored, metallic ball floating away from him. He jumps up from the platform and kicks it midair with all he's got. The glowing sphere disappears, but gives Sonic a rainbow colored aura emanating from his body. The blue hedgehog smiles and transforms into **_Super Sonic** , "Now, I'll show you! Grraaagghh!" Fox is shocked and tries to evade Sonic as the glowing, yellow figure flies towards him, but fails and is sent flying off the screen with a strong punch. "Oh, man! I thought I escaped that!" exclaimed the white rabbit as he hopped closer to the screen. The boys kept playing, until Jason's father arrived from work, announcing his entrance. A fluffy white tail wagged back and forth as the badger watched the rabbit's rear end with slight curiosity. They finished the match. "Wow! You were better than I thought. Beginner's luck, I guess." proclaimed the white rabbit. "Hehehe... Yeah..." Roger blushed a bit from the comment. Jason insisted, "Come on, let's go say hi and set up the tent." Jason put the games and controllers away before shutting the console, so they could make their way downstairs.
As the playful cubs run down the stairs, they see a gray, taller figure place his suitcase beside the door, Jason's dad. Roger struggles to catch up as the rabbit begins to hop towards his father. Jason can't contain his excitement, "Dad!" and jumps up to his father's shoulders to hug him. "Whoa, there, kid-o," Jason's dad says with a warm smile, "I haven't even gotten to say hi yet." the gray rabbit chuckles slightly showing his calm, soft-hearted nature. He kneels down to Jason's eye level, "So, what have you two been up to, Jase?" Jason eagerly begins to talk, "Oooh! Well, after the party, mom told me that Roger would be staying over, so I freaked and I started hopping. When he got here, we went to my room and tried a new Wii game a friend got me." "Hohoho!" Jason's dad laughed heartedly while giving Roger a warm smile, "What game is it?" " Super Smash Brothers Brawl." "How is it?" The older, gray rabbit moves his ears forward in interest. "It's SUPER cool! I knocked Roger off the ' The Great Fox' map, but he got me with Sonic's Final Smash move." Jason couldn't help, but hop slightly. The gray rabbit chuckled as he ruffled Jason's head fur while he began to stand. Then, a voice called out, "Honey, are you going to help the boys set up camp?" Jason's dad looks a bit puzzled, but responds, "They're gonna set up camp in the backyard?" He doesn't wait for a response, "Sure thing, honey!" "Thanks, sweetheart!" the voice calls out again, Jason's mother. "Alright, fur balls, let's get the camping gear in the garage." Jason's father notices a big smile from the shorter, white rabbit.
A small creaking noise is heard as the door to the garage is opened. Jason's dad turns on the lights and says, "Jason, you remember where we always put the tent, right? Roger, think you can help us find it, too?" Roger retorts, "Yes, sir." Jason goes towards some boxes below a table with tools on it, "No, dad. I don't remember." The small rabbit struggles with the boxes as he tries to get them to open. Roger goes over to help the smaller rabbit. Jason's dad muttered to himself, "It has to be around here somewhere..." Jason pulled out a somewhat heavy, black bag that had a white dog logo in the middle. Below the logo it said " Canine Scouts." Jason caught his dad's attention, "Hey, dad! Is this it?" The gray rabbit turns around and looks at the bag that's on the floor. "Yeah, that's got to be it! Let me check it to make sure..." He goes over to the bag and undoes the tie of the thick, white string. After a quick look, he closes it again and lifts it up, "Yup! This is it. I'm glad we found it. I thought I had thrown it away a while back for a minute, but this bag shows me I didn't." he said with a big, satisfied smile. "Ok, let's go, guys. And Roger, you might want to pay attention when we set up the tent. You could learn a thing or two about camping, so you can teach it to your dad." "Yes, sir, thank you so much." Roger's tail wags a little while smiles gently with a slight blush. The two small boys follow the taller, gray figure to the backyard. Roger elbows Jason to get his attention and whispers, "Your dad was with the Canine Scouts when he was a kid?" Jason whispers back, "Yeah. He told me that his dad made him go. But, he was okay with it because he wanted to go, anyway. My dad, eventually, asked me if I wanted to go several months ago, but I said no because I thought it was for dogs only. He told me that it wasn't just for dogs, but I still didn't feel like going." Roger was slightly surprised at the answer and remembered something his dad had mentioned about the Canine Scouts , "Really? Well, my dad told me that he met your dad when he was with the scouts, too, and that they both became friends afterwards because they were sleeping in the same cabin." Jason giggled and replied, "My dad would tell me that he sometimes had to help your dad set up the tent because he wasn't very good at it." The gray rabbit opened the backyard door and all three of them stepped outside. Jason's dad inhaled and exhaled deeply, "Now, this is what I grew up with." He sighed as he covered his eyes from the glaring, golden sun just over the horizon. The sky was yellow around the sunset. Orange just above it and a navy blue atmosphere covered the rest of the sky. "See that, boys? That right there is a similar sunset the Canine Scouts and I would admire at the end of each day...and also a sunset that my wife and I would observe when we were just starting our relationship." he sighed deeply. Jason and Roger looked at each other's eyes, thinking of what to say, but ended up staying quiet and looking away from each other while they blushed slightly. The gray rabbit turned to the boys, grinning, "Don't worry boys, you'll both find true love one day. I couldn't wait to meet of both of your girlfriends." Both boys began to blush harder ; Jason rubbed his left arm while Roger rubbed the back of his neck. "What? What did I say?" the older rabbit questioned the younglings, but Jason's mom got out to the porch. "Dear, don't forget to give the cubs flashlights and a nightlight, so they can see in the dark." she insisted. The rabbit responded, "Oh, right, right... Don't worry, I'll take care of it, honey." He continued, "Ok, Jason, you can go ahead and start taking the tent with the rest of the equipment out while I get the flashlights." Ok, dad!" Jason wagged his bushy, white tail excitedly. A few minutes later, the older rabbit arrived with 2 small flashlights, 1 heavy duty flashlight and a small, battery powered night light. He saw the tent set up already and was impressed, "Wow! Good job, son! I thought you needed my help, but you learn pretty quickly." Jason blushed , "That's because you knew how to set up the tent better than the others in the Canine Scouts."
Night quickly arrived a few minutes into setting up the final touches of the tent. The cool air surrounded the backyard and the soft murmuring crickets filled the atmosphere in the calm neighborhood. Jason's dad reminded the boys, "Ok, guys, remember, if you need anything come inside and knock on our door. The porch door will be unlocked just in case you boys need to use the restroom or somethin'." Jason retorted, "Ok, dad. Thanks. We'll be fine." The gray rabbit's tone became slightly more serious, "And Jason, if it's an emergency, just give us a holler, ok?" "Yes, dad, I will." Jason said happily. The taller rabbit proceeded inside, left the outside lights and kitchen lights on and headed upstairs, waving the cubs good night. "So..." Roger started curiously, "Watcha wanna do?" "I dunno..." Jason mumbled. "Do you wanna...tell scary stories?" asked the badger curiously, once again. Jason thought over that for a second, "Well, that's not a bad idea, but...I want to do something else." Roger placed his paw under his chin beginning to think, "Hmmm... How about Truth or Dare...?" The badger could see the rabbit's paws clump together with excitement past the ray of light from the flashlight. The white rabbit grinned crazily knowing what to dare Roger, "Yeah! Then I could make you eat a bug as a dare!" He rubbed his paws together and laughed slightly evilly. "Ew, gross, dude! Don't make me do that!" The badger cub blushed as he looked down with embarrassment. "Ok, ok... Fine. I might not make you do that. But I will dare you to do something." said Jason. The white lines of the badger's muzzle could be seen moving in the semi darkness. "Well, if that's how you want to play it, then I guess I'm gonna have to do the same thing." The cubs continued talking.
"Yeah, I guess that's fair." The white bunny agreed.
"Ok. Cool. Can I start? I want to start..." Roger hesitated slightly. Jason noticed the hesitation, but was unsure what was on Roger's mind.
Jason semi-sternly said, "Sure. Go ahead. Just don't make me do or say anything stupid."
"It's cool, now, truth or dare?" Asked the black and white badger in the somewhat darkness.
Jason thought over the question for a second, seemingly hesitating, "Uh... Dare."
"Hmmm..." Roger soon came up with a dare. "I dare you to act like a one year old cub."
"Ugh... Anything but that!" groaned Jason. "Come on! Don't make me do something embarrassing either." he started blushing slightly realizing that he had no choice.
Roger started to hold his muzzle to hold in the laughter, "Sssnnnrkkk... Pfftt... Heh... You can't just say no. You have to do it! It's a dare."
"Urrrrggggghhhh..." Jason groaned even harder. "FINE... But don't laugh." He said angrily hesitating to act like a one year old. The hare got on his back and began making cub (baby) noises as he blushed furiously in the darkness. Roger grabbed his flashlight and shone the beam of light towards Jason. "HAHAHAHAHA!" Roger laughed loudly as he saw the white rabbit he knew for several years act like a cub.
"Darn it, Roger! I told you not to laugh!" the rabbit crossed his arms as he sat up, still blushing from the embarrassment.
"Grrr... Now, it's your turn, so I'll make you do a dare! I dare you to place a bug on your tongue!" Jason commanded the badger that was on the floor trying to catch his breath from the long, loud laughter.
"Hey, what?! No fair! Come on! I didn't even get to choose!" Roger got up at the statement he heard from the hare.
"Too bad. It's only fair. If you're gonna make me do something I don't like, I'm gonna make you do something you don't like." the white rabbit grinned evilly under the beam of light from his flashlight.
"..." Roger stayed silent, went outside the tent with his flashlight and found a ladybug on a grass blade. He pinched it carefully with his fingers, as if trying not to squish it and brought it inside the tent. "You want a dare? Here's the dare." The badger stuck out his long, slender tongue from his muzzle and placed the bug in the middle of it to prevent it from falling.
"Hmph. At least you did what I told you." said the rabbit with puffed up cheeks.
The badger freaked out and grabbed the lady bug quickly with his tiny fingers, "EW! It peed on me!"
Jason noticed the badger jump as if he were to have seen a ghost. The rabbit started laughing, nearly crying, "HAHAHAHA!"
Roger blushed through his black and white fur on his face, "It's not funny! That was gross!"
"Alright, alright... I'll stop... Hehehe..." Jason wiped a tear from his right eye.
"Since you thought that being peed on is funny, now I'm gonna make _you_do something." said Roger reassuringly.
"Well, I chose truth, so you can't make me do anything stupid." said the white rabbit with a confident look on his face.
"That's ok. I was going to ask you, anyway: Is it true that you have a crush on someone at school?" the badger pointed the beam of light from the flashlight to the rabbit's astonished expression.
Jason hesitated for a bit, "Uh... Well, uh... Um..." the rabbit twiddled his fingers.
"So, you do have a crush have a crush on someone! Tell me who it is!" the badger started laughing while pointing at the blushing, white rabbit.
"No! I'm NOT gonna tell you! You're gonna laugh at me!" Jason crossed his arms and puffed his cheeks in anger, blushing furiously.
Roger settles downs and insists, "Ok, ok, ok... Tell me. I promise I won't laugh. Ok?" he extends an arm with his pinky wiggling. "Pinky promise."
Jason inhales and sighs, calming down, "Fine, pinky promise." He reaches out for the badger's pinky with his own and they intertwine pinkies with a firm hold. "I have a crush on..." Jason starts, "I have a crush on...you..." Roger's eyes widened, releasing the white rabbit's fluffy pinky. Jason's firm, tall ears drip as the badger relaxes the grip of his finger. Roger seemed astonished, "Me...?" The embarrassed rabbit looks away shamefully, "Yes, you." After a few moments of unbearable silence, the badger in the dark moves closer to the rabbit, rubbing his arm as to comfort him, "I also have a secret to tell you," Jason looks up towards Roger's eyes, "I also like you." Jason felt as if the Earth's gravity had decreased, so, he lifted his ears, "You-you do?" Roger nodded in the darkness, aware that the rabbit could see just fine. They both stared at each other's eyes for a few seconds, moving the faces slightly closer to one another as if they knew what to do. "So...are you thinking what I'm thinking...?" Jason hesitated to ask. "Kinda, but not really. What are you thinking of doing?" asked Roger with a semi-puzzled look. "Well, I've seen my mom and dad watch a lot of romantic movies together a lot and I remember this one part in a movie when the good guy saved the girl he liked from the bad guy, they both looked at each other in the eyes for a bit and they kissed." Jason blushed slightly. "You mean... To the cheek or...muzzle to muzzle?" the badger blinked in curiosity. Jason blushed harder, "I mean...muzzle to muzzle." Roger blushed harshly and prevented himself from hesitating as he forced his muzzle to get closer to the rabbit's lips. Both knew that neither of them had a clue on how to kiss, but they still chose to try it, regardless. The cubs could hear the crickets chirping outside the tent while gazing in each other's eyes. They moved closer until their noses were less than a foot away from each other. Roger gulped nervously, "A-are you sure you want to do this?" Jason closed the distance between their noses as he spoke, "Yeah... I'm sure." Roger wanted to back away, but he couldn't get away from this new feeling that swirled around this chest. Jason closed his eyes, gathering every bit of strength and courage to kiss his crush. Roger followed, closing his eyes and felt the white rabbit's lips bump against his.
