Enjoy the Game
Chapter 1
Sports were always boring. A man or woman carrying or hitting a ball across a field or down a court made for a droll experience. Most schools took them way too seriously--especially football. Every Friday was full of school colors while most students barked out their team's name or chants usually heard in the stands. The only redeeming thing that made it slightly bearable was seeing the other seniors in their tight pants and padding, making them look bigger than they normally were.
Tachi winced at the sound of echoing yells going through the hallway near the classroom he was working in, his glasses almost falling. Promising to assist his chemistry teacher, the wolf was cautiously adding certain chemicals together to prep for the lab on the following day. They were somewhat sensitive and he had to measure exactly, but he was steady enough despite the surrounding excitement of the upcoming football game later that night.
The wolf was the top student in the sciences he was taking. His biology and chemistry teachers had high expectations of him and it was rare that he disappointed. They would often compliment him on his experiments or theories, saying he would go far in the fields. Despite having one of the higher grade-point averages of his class, Tachi wasn't as social as one would think. He would often help his classmates with notes or homework, but would make them work for it. Where most students would slack off or party when they had free time, the wolf often studied.
Having an abundance of knowledge about biology, Tachi was bigger than most of his classmates. He took care of himself, and even at 17-years-old, he stood at a head or two above many of the other students. He was bulkier than the average male and could probably compete with a few of the school's football members. Tachi was often asked why he wasn't part of the team--he was simply uninterested. There was no reason to waste time running around when he could be finding new ways to assist people or make life easier.
With his fingers brushing through his blond headfur, Tachi stood up, finished with his work for the day. A pop came from his back as he stretched, his broad chest pressing out as he let out a thick yawn.
"Alright, it should all be finished, Mr. Zachary," Tachi murmured with a rub to his head.
"Thank you, Tachi. I very much appreciate it. Going to the game?" the big, black-furred kangaroo asked as he focused on dropping liquid on a Petri dish.
A snort came from the wolf.
"Of course not. I have better things to do," Tachi huffed as he picked his backpack up.
"All work and no play," Zachary murmured while not looking up.
"I'd rather be dull than bored," Tachi stated in reply with a slight chuckle, "see you tomorrow, sir."
"Thanks again, Tachi. Be careful on your way home."
Opening the door to the hallway, Tachi adjusted his backpack and stepped out, grunting at the very thought of going to one of the games. The notion made his hackles raise, rolling his eyes while he turned the corner. While lost in thought, he didn't realize that there were heavy footsteps rapidly approaching him. Immediately when he turned, it felt like a wall slammed into him. Seeing stars, Tachi was slammed back into the ground while letting out a loud yelp.
"Oh, shit!" an alarmed, yet deep voice rang out, "I'm sorry! Fuck, man. Are you okay?"
Tachi had a hard time understanding what was said, holding his head as he slowly sat up, grunting heavily.
"Y-yeah... yeah, I'm fine. Everything's okay," Tachi replied, trying to refocus his dulled vision. He shook his head while holding it, trying to keep from spinning.
"Fuck... I'm really sorry. Can you stand?" the voice came again.
Tachi was about to chastise him for running in the hall, but he felt rather large paws around his shoulders, slowly lifting him to stand. It was then that he looked at the wall he had run into, his eyes widening while he lifted his head up. There was a gigantic package in his face--those pants were straining over two huge cantaloupes and a sausage as big as an arm. Taking his eyes away, Tachi saw a letterman jacket and a stretched shirt; the shirt looked to almost rip off the broad, muscular chest that he was now staring into. He continued raising his eyes until he met the rat's face.
The dark-green rat was huge. At least a foot above Tachi, the rat was built bigger than any person their age. Making quite a few of the teachers look small, the powerful rodent cast a broad shadow over Tachi, almost completely encompassing him. His muscles were straining his clothes, from his heavy torso to his thick thighs with a fitting, heavy package to match. The broad, green paws were gripping those shoulders in a gentle manner despite their size, gently brushing the wolf's clothes while he examined him, red eyes quickly darting over the wolf's form as if to check for injury.
"You're the captain," Tachi murmured, "of the football team."
"Yeah, duh. I'm Alus. You're... uuuuh... you're the science ner-err... guy who aces all the classes. Uuuuh..." he stammered, trying to recall the wolf's name.
"Tachi," he stated plainly, mildly annoyed now--he tried to keep a stern face, but those red eyes were bright and apologetic. "You could've given me a concussion or broken bones, you big oaf. Why were you running?"
"I said I'm sorry! And I'm not an oaf! And I'm running because I--oh fuck! I'm late! I'm sorry again. You're okay, right?" Alus asked once more, although quickly, while edging past the wolf and toward the stairwell.
"I'm fine. Go. ...And don't run," Tachi growled out as Alus took a running stance once more, "someone else may not be as forgiving."
Alus nodded quickly and power-walked toward the stairs, offering a small wave. Stepping through, a loud thud signaled that he jumped a few steps.
Tachi rubbed his head with a sigh, checking for sprains or cuts, but he only had a dull ache in his head. He'd have a bump for sure. Thankfully, there were no other damages aside from a bruise or two he might have the next day. Regaining his composure once more, he adjusted his shirt and soon followed the rat's path down the stairs, slowly losing himself in thought.
He had never met the captain of the football team and only saw him in passing. Alus was occasionally surrounded by a couple of teammates, cheerleaders, or other popular figure in the school. He was attractive. He was handsome in the face while being somewhat rough and rugged at the same time, probably from playing football his entire high school life. Those red eyes were something, too. They held a strange grip on Tachi when he looked at them.
When Tachi neared the school exit, he found his face somewhat heated. Not only that, but his pants had grown tight around the groin area. Realizing this, the wolf roughly shook his head, blinking and holding it while bringing his backpack to his front, hiding his sizeable bulge while he walked to his vehicle. He looked around to make sure there was no one else in the student parking lot, giving a sigh while slipping into the mustang, settling in the seat while leaning his head back.
"What the fuck is wrong with me? He's a jock," he grunted out loud to himself, "he was about to call me a nerd. Stop it, Tachi. You're too old for this. He's a big, overgrown buffoon."
A sigh followed as he calmed himself down, slowly pulling out of the parking lot while other cars began to arrive for the game. He wanted to be gone before the traffic began.

Since the run-in with the captain, Tachi had noticed the rat more often than usual. Not only that, but their eyes often connected--was Alus looking for him as well? He must have been, considering Alus would give his little wave, almost acting shy at times while a guy or girl or two would be near him. The wolf would raise an eyebrow every time he witnessed it, but would always reply with his own bewildered wave. Other people began to notice as well, especially since Alus had approached him in the middle of a busy hallway the following Monday after the collision.
"Still feeling alright?" Alus asked, approaching the wolf and looking down at him.
Students in the near vicinity quieted and stared with wide eyes, but didn't make much movement. They watched and listened. Tachi immediately picked up on it, but ignored it other than a few glances around.
"I... I'm fine," Tachi murmured quietly, looking up at the rat's face before looking down again, feeling his cheeks flush once again.
"I'm sorry I ran away so quickly. I had to get to the field for practice before the game," Alus explained, seeming rather proud of himself regardless, "did you see how awesome I was?"
Tachi looked up, somewhat startled at the question. He looked around at the people watching them, some of them going back to what they were doing; they were still listening.
"I don't like spor... I mean, I didn't go to the game. I had a lot of... homework," he stammered, unsure of what to say. For some reason, he didn't want to disappoint the huge rat, especially when those red irises were glinting with excitement.
"Aw, c'mon. That was the semi-finals! The championship is coming up and we're in it! You're going to that one, right?" Alus asked, seeming completely oblivious of the gathering of fifteen students around them.
"Y-yes! Of course I will! I--" Tachi stopped, shocked at his own words, realizing what he had said.
"Great! I can make up running over you!" Alus said excitedly, suddenly gripping one of his huge arms around Tachi's shoulders in a large hug.
It all happened so fast. Tachi's face was smothered into a bulging pectoral muscle beneath the letterman jacket, pressed up against a thick belly and package. The heat and scent coming from the huge rat was intoxicating; the scent of deodorant and hint of weight training were both there. The strength of the jock was incredible, feeling as if Tachi was lifted from the ground. As quick as it began, it ended; Tachi was released and he almost fell over again.
"See ya later!" he stated, giving a small wave before lumbering off.
The wolf's hair was ruffled somewhat, standing there looking stupefied. As he came back down to Earth, Tachi looked around him--people were staring, though soon went back to what they were doing previously, others getting to their classes. Brushing his blond strands back down, he gathered himself up and went to his next class.
It seemed like he was going to his first football game.
* * * * *
It was cold. The end of the season was near the middle of winter, so people were bundled up and padded with jackets and scarves. The stands were filling up quite quickly, considering it was the championship game. Students, teachers, and parents were getting into their seats while their breath wafted in front of them. People were cheering and chanting in excitement, but there was one person who felt he was there against his will.
Tachi sat on the metal bleacher near the bottom of the stands. There was a scarf around his muzzle and a hat pressing his blond hair down. His jacket was thick, but still he shivered. The wolf disliked being out in the cold, and the fact that it was a football game made it even worse. He sat on the edge, staying away from the loud fans as much as he could, but he knew that he'd be pressed up against someone soon enough. He sighed once more, rubbing his head.
"Me and my big mouth," he mumbled to himself.
The football players were on the field, throwing footballs and kicking them into nets on the sidelines. His eyes scanned each one. There were students of different years on their school's team, but they were mostly seniors. They all wore their padding and jerseys while tights wrapped their legs. There were a few impressive bodies on the team, but it was easy to spot the big oaf that ran into him--the dark green rat was talking to his coach, taking a moment now and then to scan the stands.
The wolf watched him, seeing how much height he had over their feline coach, who stood level with his belly. Tachi had always found it ironic that their team, The Packrats, was coached by a lion, but they were a good team and they respected the short, broad male. However, Tachi noticed that the rat was scanning the bleachers more than one normally would; Alus was looking for someone. It was at that moment that his face turned toward the wolf where he perked up and waved enthusiastically.
Tachi was utterly confused. Why was Alus so excited that he came? He was the captain of the football team! Surely his popularity would shield him from actually noticing Tachi to be more than being a speed bump in the hallway. Maybe he wasn't waving to Tachi. The wolf looked around him, but he was still sitting away from most of the other fans. Just as bewildered as before, the wolf waved back again in a small sway of his paw.
Still looking at Tachi, Alus lifted up a football and then drew his arm into a flex, bulging his bicep, a smirk crawling over his broad muzzle. That peak grew and swelled visibly from where Tachi was seeing, and he could see it easily. He soon drew it back down whenever he was swatted by the coach, hearing a shout of "focus" following, the big rat laughing afterward.
Tachi's jaw went slack. What was he doing? Why was he flexing for him? What the hell was going on? The wolf didn't realize that his face was hotter than ever, looking at a few people nearby who was whistling for him, even if it in a teasing manner. Tachi drew his scarf over his muzzle and pulled his hat down, sinking into the uncomfortable bench that he was sitting on, trying to contain himself. The rat was making fun of him. Alus knew that Tachi had been staring at him and was milking it where he could.
"He's just a big... dumb jock. That's it. He's just embarrassing you in front of everyone," Tachi stated to himself while he glared at the rat through the small opening between hat and scarf. "There's no way he'd be interested in me," he grunted.
More and more people filed into the stadium as the game got underway. The band played, the cheerleaders and flag girls danced and twirled, and the fans loudly cheered. The wolf watched the ball sail through the air a few times, listened to the whistle of the referees blow, and winced at the collisions made by the players on the field. It was a sight to behold, however, when Alus made plays. Getting his team together, his leadership was apparent, even if he did look angry at times. They looked up to him. It was somewhat amusing when their opponents tried to sack him, though--he would rarely ever go down.
The electricity in the atmosphere was, as much as Tachi wanted to deny it, infectious. The wolf found himself leaning on the edge of his metal seat whenever the team got closer and closer to their respective goal line, almost jumping up when they would make a touchdown. By the end of the game, he was up and applauding, but quickly sat back down when he realized he was getting into it. Regardless, the Packrats won, and Tachi couldn't help the big grin on his muzzle as they celebrated on the field.
As people rushed onto the field, Tachi slowly stood and couldn't help but chuckle, watching Alus being raised above his team's head in victory, but was quickly lowered, obviously unable to keep his weight lifted. The wolf slowly walked down the bleachers, moving back as the huge, green rat accepted their team's award, seeming to look where the wolf was while he lifted it. Alus waved once more, to which Tachi replied, but the wolf soon left afterward. In case the rat was teasing him, Tachi didn't risk staying.
Football wasn't so bad.
