Rational Rift
Aver flapped his wings to give him that last bit of lift and then he reached out with his foreclaws and scrabbled up the craggy spire. With a little more effort the bronze-scaled drake established a balanced position upon the peak. He took a deep breath and tucked his wings in as he examined his surroundings.
The sky was darkened with clouds as it often was in this land. Strangely, it rarely rained, though it stormed often enough and with great intensity that even the dragon had to seek shelter. The lack of precipitation explained the look of the dry land below, miles upon miles of rocky formations and structures that contained little in the way of life. Aver was not in this distant place for the flora and fauna, however. The Council Consortium had assigned him and many others to places outside of the Haldric Homeland for many reasons. Most were sent to study and salvage what they could of ruins of those that had come before. Others were tasked for mere exploration. And some, a select few like Aver, were in their place to observe strange happenings.
The dragon scanned the horizon for a moment more before catching sight of it among a clear of stone in the distance. It, the rift, always started as nearly invisible break in established reality, a slight swirl of spherical air as if the fabric of everything was being drawn in. This rift was no different and the dragon continued to watch it to see if it moved past its first stage. After a few seconds more it did when sparkling blue energy coalesced around the swirl. This was usually the farthest the rift developed before it collapsed on itself and vanished. This time, though, a slight dusting of white sparks joined the blue energy. To the dragon's interest, the sparks built up and multiplied until the blue was nearly overwhelmed. By this time the spark glowed with such intensity that was hard to directly look at, forcing Avert to somewhat avert his gaze from the rift. Unexpectedly, the white sparks exploded into a hot brilliance that momentarily blinded the dragon and made him turn his head instinctively away.
Aver blinked away spots in his vision and returned his gaze to the rift's place when the light's intensity had mostly faded. He was pleased to find the rift still there and in it's second stage "blue" phase too! If he was quick enough he might even be able to conduct a few tests before it could disappear. With his gaze still focused on the rift, he was about to take off when he caught sight of sudden movement near the oddity. He squinted, but he was too late for whatever it had already escaped out of his sight behind an outcropping of rock. It had been about the size of a coyote and wriggling. Perhaps it had been a coyote, one blinded or wounded by the sparks' display? He wouldn't know if he didn't investigate, would he?
The drake leapt into the air, taking a steep swoop downwards before spiraling upwards and flapping his powerful wings so that he was on a fast track towards the rift. He gained a bit of height, allowing himself plenty of room to circle above it. He glanced about the immediate area that might have moved or at one point been motile, but there was nothing but the rift and rocks. His search was briefly interrupted when the sky above him rumbled. He looked up, but saw no threat of lightning among the clouds that were so close by. Still, there was no reason to be above when the rift was down there. Thus, Aver slowly descended, landing a careful distance away from the rift.
Though the anomaly swirled and spun, Aver felt no pull from it. Neither did he detect anything arcane about it; his sight was the only sense that confirmed its existence. He shook with exhilaration, as he looked upon it this close. This was the first time it seemed he might be able to experiment with it. He just had to decide where to start.
He looked down at his foreclaws and picked a small rock off the ground. Cautiously he approached the rift, stopping when he was twenty-five meters away. Then he pitched the rock at the anomaly and watched.
The results were intriguing. The rock flew towards the rift and suddenly vanished once it touched it. One moment it was there, the next it was gone. Aver scratched an itchy scale on the side of his face and considered what this moment. Did the rock go somewhere? Was it transported to another place in this world or another or even a different dimension entirely? His mind raced as he thought of several different ways to test each. There was so much to do! He just hoped he had the time...
Aver's thoughts were suddenly interrupted when he heard something scratching among the rocks behind him. He quickly spun his large body around and froze. Behind an outcropping of stone stepped a dragoness with scales the color of seawater green. She looked a little strange: her limbs and body was far more sinuous and serpentine than any dragon he had seen before, her wings small and possibly underdeveloped, and most striking was that her eyes were two different colors, a sickly yellow for the left and a pale red for the right. Still, Aver didn't pay as much attention to these details as he would have elsewhere because he was far more surprised to see another of his kin let alone a dragoness out here. He had thought he was the only sentient being around for miles.
"H-hello," Aver stammered. "I mean, greetings."
The dragoness slinked closer and smiled at him in a way he would not have expected from someone he had just met. She was appealing but he wasn't quite comfortable with how closed she moved to him. It was only out of extremely good manners that he did not take a step back.
"Hmm," he said, not sure where to begin. "Strange rift, huh?"
"No," she replied in a tone barely above a whisper.
"No?" he asked, looking towards the rift. "What do you kn--uhhh?"
The dragoness bumped into his side and rubbed against him. Their scales brushing against each other felt warm and wonderful, but she had violated his personal space. This time he did take action, moving sideways. He looked her in her differently colored eyes.
"Listen," he said. "I--"
"Hmm?" she replied, lowering her eyes to his hindquarters. He followed her gaze until he saw that his member had begun to poke its way out of his genital slit. Deeply embarrassed, he lowered his chest so that neither of them could see it.
"I apologize," he murmured. "It's just you're quite attractive and you're making me uncomfortable and--I'm sorry." He shook his head. "I-I'm here to study this rift and others like it under writ of the Council. I don't think you're Haldric because--well, pardon if this is rude, but you don't look entirely...normal? No, that's not right. You're different looking. From where do you hail?"
"Close by," she said, stepping towards him. "Don't you?"
"Only temporarily. This isn't my home. It's not really anyone's home. I mean--it's yours but--uhhh--"
The dragoness suddenly turned around so that her rear was nearly facing him. She lifted her tail tantalizingly and Aver felt what he meant to keep hidden move in response. He shifted uncomfortably and could only stare at her seemingly proffered nethers before she rotated to face him again. He looked away as she moved near him again.
"What's the matter?" she asked.
"Er," he replied. He glanced over to her and found her within bite's reach again. He unconsciously pulled his head back. "Like I said, I'm here to study the rift and I thought you would be too but all you seem interested is some...um..."
"Breeding?"
"Yes. Unless that's not what you're signaling but--"
"You're correct. Aren't you interested?"
"I'm here to study the rift--"
"And I'm giving you an opportunity to mate. Do you get many of those around here?"
Aver shook his head. Breeding was a controlled measure in Haldric, genetic diversity and variation and all that. He had only been given the opportunity twice and none of them had been particularly satisfying.
"Then why don't you take it? I won't take much from you, I promise."
"I'm here to--"
The dragoness pushed roughly into Aver. He stumbled but kept his footing.
"Hey! I'm--"
Aver's heard something spark. He glanced over to the rift and watched as the blue energy dissipated and the anomaly suddenly vanished.
"No," he whispered.
"Now you have no excuse," he heard the dragoness say. Before he knew it, she slammed into him again. This time he did fall onto his side and in a moment she was on top of him.
"Hey!" he said. "Hey! Ooh--" he moaned when she fondled his member with one of her hindclaws, bringing it to full stimulation.
"Hey!" he shouted this time, grabbing the dragoness's attention. She stared at him lustily and in an aroused state he could only look back the same way. He breathed heavily as he thought of what to say next. Finally: "At least--at least let me be on top."
The dragoness growled and playfully bit at his next. He narrowed his eyes and then chortled happily.
"Ok then," he snarled.
He gripped the dragoness's shoulders. He steeled himself and then with a sudden burst of strength he rolled both of them over so that he was now on top. As he looked down at the dragoness and her exposed pussy he actually found himself wishing she had struggled a bit more. Still, he was getting something out of it. He was ready for mating. By the moist state of her nethers, not to mention her previous behavior, the dragoness was too. So, Aver did what they both wanted--he plunged into her willing sex, shivering with pleasure and elation at the feeling of entering her hot, trembling passage. Previous nervousness and worriment were washed away by the sensual rhythm of thrusting in and out, in and out. At first he didn't really go all the way in, but with each thrust he went deeper until he was nearly pressing his body into her in order to fit all the way in. Again, her scales were warm in contact, and he could feel as they both trembled when her inner walls compressed and massaged his member. She wrapped her tail around his as he neared released and they both came closer to climax. When she exhaled a breath of hot steam into his face, he roared and that was it. In that moment, he came and they both shuddered at the discharge of both sexual bliss and his seed into her.
"Mmm," Aver rumbled, slowly pulling out of the dragoness, enjoying the sound of her moan as he pulled out. He looked to the where the rift had once been and found he no longer regretted missing a chance to experiment. After all, how many chances would he get with a dragoness like this? "This may seem improper, ma'am, but I'll go ahead and say that was a good--"
Aver was left with his jaw hanging open when he turned to look at the dragoness. She regarded him not with two eyes, but three. The new one lay embedded between the others and this one was different, a single compound optic like an insect's.
"Er--"
The drake felt all excitement drain out of him, to be replaced by a different sort of uncertainty than before. Frozen in place, he removed his gaze with some difficult from the dragoness's and looked farther down her body. He noticed her form bulkier than before and her previously purely green hide was speckled with bronze scales. He looked in horror and watched as some of his scales detached from his body and fell and melded onto hers. In addition, while she was gaining mass and muscle quite the opposite was happening to him. She continued to grow harder and strong and he shrank soft and submissive until they were the size of the other before.
Aver wasn't even sure how to react when he felt a pulling in his hindquarters. He looked down there and watched as his erect member softened and then dwindled from there, losing its previously impressive length and size. He stared while it shrank into his genital slit inch by inch until there was simply nothing there. With a shiver and a suppressed squeal, he felt his genital slit twist and pucker into a fine set of feminine lips. From there, changes internal set into place when a deep, sensitive passage burrowed its way through the area where his member had once been stored and something formed at the end, an expansive womb able to bear more eggs than average. With a start, Aver realized she was female.
Hearing a growl, Aver glanced from her sex to the dragoness's own. She wasn't really sure she could call the other dragon a dragoness anymore, for peaking out of his hindquarters was a rapidly stiffening cock. With a whimper, Aver looked up to the new male and saw the look of lust had returned to his eyes. A long blue tongue slid out of his maw and licked at Aver's maw. The dragoness shuddered and then yelped as two fleshly blue fleshy tentacles burst out of the male's back. They whipped around and grabbed the dragoness and the male did what she had done minutes ago, rolling them around so that Aver was on the bottom again.
"I--" Aver began, unable to speak further when she felt something brush against her sensitive new lips. She found her gaze drawn to the dragon's cock and she and her sex began to drool at the sight of it. She felt so empty down there. She had lost something and gained something else but it just wasn't the same. She needed to be filled. She didn't mind that she was being held down by both the dragon's strength and the abnormal tentacles, she didn't care that so many things were horribly wrong and not enough was right. All that was on her mind was that she was so empty. She needed something there, something inside--it was just so empty, so much space to fill--
"Please," she pleaded, whimpering as the tentacles released her and began to massage her body, leaving behind a blue trail where they touched. They moved farther downward until they caressed her sex. Aver moaned at their pleasant ministrations, but when they left she was only left wanting and needy and more sensitive than before. Her nethers throbbed and practically wept for attention, for the cock hovering above it to take the plunge already. So empty inside, so empty--
"Please!" Aver shrieked again, staring directly into the dragon's compound eye. She was no longer frightened about it, she no longer cared at its abnormality, she just wanted to--
"PLEASE!"
The dragon chortled and the dragoness tried to sit up and reach with her foreclaw so that she might be able to at least give herself release when the dragon finally did as she begged. She cried out hoarsely when he entered her. She found herself unprepared for what came and her mind nearly blanked from the alien and unfamiliar sensations of receiving it rather than giving. Still, she recovered enough to at least focus on his member inside her if nothing else. She felt complete for once, each thrust of his cock increased her sexual buildup and brought her closer to being actually filled, she realized. She realized she wanted more than just his cock--she wanted his seed, she wanted to put her newly formed womb to use, she needed to. What use else was there for it, what use else was there for her?
The tentacles returned, this time rubbing at the more sensitive upper portion of her sex. This combined with her cock almost thrust even the basest of instinctual thinking out of her mind. The dragon thrust more savagely now and lowered his muzzle so that he could lick her neck. She shuddered at the combined effects of these movements, loving it all. She hoped it would never end that this could go on forever, that he would go even deeper--
But end it did. With a harsh grunt, he orgasmed and so did she. She shuddered and shook, her mind breaking as he filled her womb to overcapacity so that when he pulled out some of it dribbled out of her sex, a thick black liquid, oily but viscous. With her mind overloaded with sexual pleasure, Aver could only breathe and bask in the afterglow as the dragon released her. He stepped off her and experimentally flapped his wings, wings that Aver dully noticed were now transparent and spotted. The dragon meandered away from the spent dragon, his form shifting and resculpting the farther he walked from her. When he stood before the place the rift had once been, _she_was ostensibly female once more. She looked to Aver and smiled with a maw full of thousands of small yet sharp teeth. She spoke something in a language Aver could not comprehend, causing its third compound eye glowed blue briefly. The air swirled spherically and a blue ring of energy formed around it. She took a step forward and vanished along with the rift.
A sudden peal of thunder awoke Aver from her sexual reverie and restored her previous mind. She looked blankly to the sky and then gasped as everything that had just occurred impacted her at once. She hastily rolled over and stumbled to her feet, cringing at the feeling of something hot and sticky sliding down her hindquarters. The dragoness looked at the black substance, the creature's seed, she presumed, and shuddered. More disturbing was the sight of her slick sex and the thought that the changes that had been forced upon her were most probably permanent. Somehow she was female and somehow had consented to sex as one. The feeling of emptiness was gone because she was most definitely filled now. She wondered if that was what it was like to be in heat. A moment later, she realized she had much more to wonder about, to ponder, to think. After all, she had been tasked here to study rifts and so she had. Still, she now had more questions than answers and she didn't want to think what other experiences other sessions of study of the anomalies of the rifts would bring. At the same time, what they could bring was slightly arousing...
Aver shook her head. Despite her current condition, she had to retain her prior mind and will. She could not fall into a sexual stupor as she had before. Otherwise...
The dragoness felt a tingle of warmth within her womb. She looked to her belly and found it with a slighter swell than it had before. She thought of the dragoness or of the not dragoness and what it had done to her, what it had filled her with...
There was no doubt in her mind she had been impregnated, but with what? Aver could not be sure what would grow within her. The only other fact that she was certain of was that she had come across another sentient species, a grand discovery indeed. Oh, there had been others, but there time had been before dragonkin. Now there were others or another--rift dwellers? Rift warpers? Were they hostile, benevolent or otherwise? Was there more than one?
Aver intended to answer all of these uncertainties and perhaps come to terms what had happened to her at the same time out here in these lands, a place she knew in which something dwelled more than her. All she feared was the cost of doing so.
