Losing a Dear Friend
This story came from a quest I was doing in Pirate101 and this is how I felt after losing Milo Graytail. In the actual game, he just had bed rest after fainting and came back later.

It was just another looting mission, get the windstone from the wreckage of a ship on an island populated by dog pirates. However, it would turn into the saddest day of my life as a dear friend who knew my parents and served with them would not return with us. My first mate, Milo Graytail, whom I rescued from a Monquistan prison while trying to get rare spices for the frogfather, joined my crew and introduced me to my parents old ship, which was still docked at Jonah Town. I was amazed at his combat ability and his powerful sword strikes helped me defeat many enemies and acquire new weapons and treasure. As we journeyed through the Spiral, he would tell me about my parents, the fun times he shared with them, the many places they visited and the battles they fought together before a storm made me into an orphan. I was raised then in Grizzleheim and became a privateer, fighting the armada and helping those in need. Along the way I acquired quite the crew, along with Milo Graytail I met Egg Shen, a capable fighter and student from Mooshu, Bonnie Anne, a beautiful vixen who is deadly with her musket, The Marchioness, a monkey conquistador who joined my cause to fight for freedom, Ensign Emmet, an otter who joined me because I saved his life when Ratbeard turned on him, Nanu Nanu, a water mole spearman who also joined me to help fight for freedom, Old Scratch, an undead witchdoctor who can summon minions to fight for us and can bring the dead back to life when we get stuck, and finally Ratbeard himself, who joined after I saved his life from a Water Mole Tribe that was going to dip him into lava along with the treasure of Captain Gunn. As we traversed the windlanes and defeated many enemies, Milo became like a brother to me and always had my back. When we reached the inside of the ship with the windstone, I took Milo with me along with Ratbeard and Old Scratch, but once we were inside, we were attacked by sharks.
"Everyone! Fend them off! I'll get the windstone!" I shouted as I dove into the water, the others following me.
For some reason I never found out, we were able to breathe underwater and fight as well. As Milo, Ratbeard and Old Scratch held off the incoming sharks, I swam straight to the windstone, but before I could grab it, a huge shark appeared in front of me, jaws gaping wide open and ready to take a bite out of me. I barely got out of the way when it bit down, its teeth just inches from my chest, and drew my sword, slashing and stabbing with skill and speed. The water around me was turning red as the sharks blood was flowing free into the water around it. Milo saw that I was in a fight and immediately left the others, swimming right to my side and helping me fight off the huge shark. After a few minutes of slicing and stabbing, it had appeared that we had defeated the shark, and I grabbed the windstone and put it into my pocket. I motioned for everyone to get to the exit and had slowly began to swim back, when the shark had awoken behind me, its eyes locked on me as it made one last lunge at me.
"Captain! Look out!" Milo shouted and pushed me out of the way as the shark bit down on his frame.
When I saw what had happened to Milo, anger swelled up within me as I saw his blood flowing from the puncture wounds on his chest, a few shark teeth lodged within his skin. I drew my sword and violently attacked the shark, cutting and carving it like it was a pumpkin for halloween until my anger left me and the shark was just a bloody mess, its jaws released Milo from their grip. I swam towards Milo, held him and swam to the exit where Ratbeard and Old Scratch were waiting for us. When I emerged from the water, I laid Milo down on the ground, tears emerging from my eyes as I cried and sobbed over the dead body of my friend. When we didn't return to the ship, the rest of the crew bottled up my ship and came to the wreck where we still were and gasped at the sight in front of them.
"Isn't there anything you can do Scratch?" I asked between sobs
"I an' I can't help him, Captain my Captain." Old Scratch replied "What I can do is help his spirit find peace."
Bonnie Anne walked towards me, her musket lay by the door and pulled me into a comforting hug as I sobbed into her chest. The rest of the crew removed their hats as Old Scratch performed a HooDoo ritual which released Milo's spirit from his body. Before he left, Milo touched my shoulder, and as I looked upon my friend's spirit, he gave me a smile and said
"Don't worry, Cap'n. I'll never really be gone. I'll be watching over ye now along with your parents."
With that, he waved goodbye to us all and disappeared in a flash of light. We traveled back to Old Scratch's home and dug a grave for Milo, put a headstone over the ground which read
"Milo Graytail, the bold and nice. Saved his Captains life with his sacrifice"
After we had finished, my crew began to head to the docks, but I stayed behind for a while longer.
"Thank you, Milo" I said quietly before leaving to my ship, my old sword buried in the ground next to his headstone.
