The Werehuman

Story by Dukeman on SoFurry

This is the thing, this is a whole new thing, I'm not sure if it turned out ok but it doesn't matter. It's here to read.

Credit for the idea goes to someone on Tumblr whom I forget. I didn't really have good ideas for making the characters so when I thought of who would be playing the parts I thought "Ah yes, me"

Hence myself in the story.

Everyone knows how werewolves work; human all month except for the full moons, but what if it was wolf all month then human for those full moons..?

The night's sky was filled with thick clouds, obscuring the land in darkness. Within the sea of trees, a furred beast moved with purpose out into a clearing, making sure to stay hidden in the patches of bushes. On the edge of that clearing, two glowing yellow eyes looked out between shadowy leaves towards the figure in the grassy field, unknowingly backing up to the creature's hiding place. The beast burst from its position, pouncing onto the clearing's inhabitant in a single movement. The two tumbled shortly until they stopped, the predator holding down its prey.

"Gotcha"

The brown-furred timber wolf stepped off his victim, another wolf with a snowy-white pelt. The she-wolf rolled onto her front and got back up, shaking the dust off her fur.

"You don't have to be so rough Duke, jeez..."

He stepped around to her side and nuzzled her cheek with a chuckle.

"I'm just trying to teach you to avoid those nasty hunters; you'd be nothing but a coat by now Luna"

She snaps at Duke's muzzle with a snarl: "Oh hush! I knew you were there, somewhere..."

"Alright wolfie, you should get home to your father; you know how Alphas are. He already doesn't like that I'm teaching you but if you got to the den late, well he might just suspect things-"

Luna nuzzles into his neck, then leans back and kisses Duke's cheek.

"Totally worth it, but alright, I'm going"

She licks his nose causing both the wolves to blush before starting the journey to the nearby mountain, in which the dens were located. Once the she-wolf's white tail disappeared into the foliage, the lone wolf looks up at the cloudy sky. It was tempting to howl out into the night, but such actions could draw any amount of unwanted attention. He would eventually follow after her to the mountain dens but the night was young~

"It can't hurt to take a look..."

Every wolf knew it was forbidden to interact with humankind for various legitimate reasons, but it's only illegal if you get caught. Duke padded off in the other direction towards a group of illuminated clouds which he knew would be above the nearby human settlement. It took a few minutes of casual running to reach the forest's edge, thankfully with no interruptions from other animals. The brown wolf was hard to spot amongst the dark trees as he poked his head out of the tree line, but the darkness didn't last-

As the beast surveyed the strange structures made of various materials, the area suddenly became brighter. Duke looked up into the once cloudy sky to see a full moon shining down on him, tinged with yellow in the night sky. A shiver ran from the top of his spine all the way down the tail tip as the wolf heart inside him suddenly beat magnitudes faster. Duke doubled over in sudden pain as his form started to twist and contort steadily, causing the beast to pass out in the moonlight.

His hind legs snapped backwards as the knees started to bend forwards, the whole leg growing bigger as the bones restructured. The rest of the wolf's body followed suit as his figure grew in size and the fur seemingly retracted. Duke's four paws lengthened and the digits spread further apart on his front two paws while his bushy tail sunk quickly into his rear, the bones evaporating from the fifth appendage.

Finally his face convulsed and the muzzle pushed inwards as his normally perky ears deformed and slid down the sides of his head. Thousands of other minor changes occurred within his body; the bones snapped into plane, the last patch of fur disappeared into his skin except for a large tuft on the top of his head, and the claws flattened into slightly pointed nails. Where the lone wolf once stood, a naked human now lay on the forest's edge, no longer illuminated as the moon slid back behind the cloudy cover. The human stirred after a while, then slowly got up while taking in his surroundings.

"W-what, a forest... Aaahegh, what-"

Duke's eyes settled onto another being, not too far from his position; A screaming and writhing human who quickly passed out before thick fur grew all over their skin. He backed away from the strange thing then rushed away from the forest and into the edges of a suburban area, his feet quickly finding the rough footpath. He glanced back over his shoulder to see the former human, now a wolf, get back up and bound off into the sea of trees, howling into the distance.

"W-werewolf! AAAAAAAAGGHHHH"

Duke ran with renewed energy into the street, completely unaware of the people who might be watching. Once he reached the end of the street leaned against a fence, huffing and looking around for more danger. The only thing he didn't see was the woman behind him.

"Would you mind NOT leaning on my fence?"

With a startled yelp he jumped away from the fence and spun around to see a brunette, rubbing her eyes all the while glaring him down. In her early twenties, shoulder length hair, pyjama pants and a simple black t-shirt; he sized her up quickly while completely forgetting about himself.

"Sooo are you gonna go get some clothes or should I call the police..?"

"O-oh ah, no please don't. I don't have any clothes, I think- I just woke up next to that forest over there. I-I don't remember anything."

Duke gestured back the way he came while trying to cover himself as best he can with his hands. The woman stared at him, not really to him but off in thought.

"Well, you don't seem dangerous. Amnesia right? W-well, just come inside and I'll get you some clothes. My ex doesn't really need them anymore.."

She walked back into her house but never turned her back to Duke, always keeping an eye on him as he glanced around the neighbourhood one more time before following the stranger inside. The inside was dimly lit and much warmer than the chilly outside.

"Natascha"

"What-?"

"It's my name, what's yours?" She spoke to him as she entered an adjourning room.

"Uhh, oh! It's Duke, I'm Duke"

She came back to him holding a clump of clothing, tossing it to him as she replied: "Huh, that's a funny name. You look like more of a 'Luke' person, but it's close enough I guess-" He caught the jumble of a t-shirt, underwear and pants before slipping them on as quickly as possible. "T-thanks for the clothes, and taking me in, and everything else"

"It's ok, I feel like you mean well, but please don't take any of my things before you leave tomorrow"

He cocked his head to the side as he asked: "Tomorrow? I'm staying here for the night..?"

"It's really late and you have amnesia right? Well, we can figure it out tomorrow but for now I'm just, really tired. I had a long day, y'know?"

Duke rubbed his shoulder sheepishly as shook his head.

"N-not really, thanks again.. Uhh where, can I sleep?"

Natascha strangely blushed and turned her head she got the clothes out from.

"W-well, I don't have a couch, or a second bed. Just this, uhh, king-sized bed... You don't mind sharing do you?"

He understood the blush now, and his cheeks betrayed him too as he felt his face flush with heat.

"Err n-nope not at all, but are you sure about this? I could find some other plac-"

She cut him off: "No, give it up Duke, just get in here" Natascha grabbed the corner of the borrowed shirt and tugged him in through the doorway. An even more dimly lit room greeted him. It had the proposed kind-sized bed in the middle, easily dominating half the room, with a line of dressers along one wall. A bedside table also housed a lamp which Natascha turned on.

"So, uh. This is the bed, and this is my side of the bed. Your side, is the other one, yeah-"

She had continued to blush as Duke stepped around the room and got into the large bed uneasily. The woman slid into her side while turning off the bedside lamp, then pulling up the blanket over both of them. The thankfully clothed man lay awkwardly on the far side trying to make as little noise as possible. Why is she so nice to me? People aren't this nice, I think. How do I know so much general knowledge without having memories?

His thoughts were interrupted when Natascha rolled under the covers much closer to him, close enough that he managed to feel her breath on her ear which she then whispered into: "Try not to be too uncomfortable, I'm just a.. Nice person is all. Andyou'rekindacute"

What

Duke spent the next half hour trying to make sense of what he just heard, and in that time he started to hear Natascha's soft snoring half a metre to his left. It was no use doing anything more this day, and a lot of answers would come in the next day, so he nuzzled into his pillow and nodded off to sleep. Oh how he was wrong.

The bright circle of sun was no longer touching the horizon when Duke twitched then silently yawned as he slowly opened his eyes and looked around the strange room. He didn't remember last night, at least most of it.. But he did remember- Duke glanced over to his left to see a human woman facing him, still asleep of course. He admired the vision of cuteness before him before he realised a good portion of his face obscured that view.

The wolf sat up in the bed and looked down to see the pants at his feet and a shirt awkwardly draped around his neck. With panic but logical thinking he slipped out of the bed without waking the strange woman, throwing off the shirt as he moved to the front door. After an awkward minute of fondling the handle, the wooden door swung open and he bounded out without hesitation. I am SO late the alpha will be mad! And Luna~ The timber wolf was at the edge of the forest by the time Natascha reached the front door. She looked out down the street, off into the tree line where a lone wolf stood, staring back at her. Duke saw the familiar woman, and after a bit of thought, he shouted out: "Thanks!!!" before disappearing off into the brush, but all the brunette heard was a short and happy howl.
