A Forlorn Love Part 7
#7 of A Forlorn Love
Jessy has a heart to heart talk with his favorite teacher.
A big Thank You to Gray Muzzle for allowing me to use him in story. He has helped me a lot in developing my skills as a writer and has given me lots of support. All though my skill is still rough and being honed it is better than it used to be thanks to him. Gray, my friend, I hope I'm doing you proud.
Chapter 7: Consulting a Friend
That morning we left early so we could go see the Dean and explain that I still needed help with getting around to my classes as well as with some other things that he didn't need to know about. The Dean said that Brittany could accompany me to my classes and stay with me if she wanted. This information made Brittany happy because now she'd get to spend the whole day with me. Class after class the day went by pretty quickly. The last class of the day for us was my favorite one, English. Brittany didn't stick around for this class, she said English class has always bored her and she went to her Math class. That was fine with me but it also distracted me a little bit not having her there with me. I kept looking out the classroom door with my head propped up on my fist, leaning on my desk. My professor noticed that I was distracted throughout a lot of his class and asked me to stay behind for a when the bell rang to excuse us for the day.
"You seem to be really distracted today, Jessy." Gray Muzzle pointed out. "Is something on your mind?"
"What?" I asked. "Oh! Yeah, sorry about that I wasn't really paying attention."
"That's exactly my point. Would you care to tell me what's going on with you?"
I was thinking if I should tell him what had been keeping me so distracted but I just wasn't sure if I even knew what it was exactly. So, I decided to tell him and hoped that he'd be able to help me. He was a friend of mine after all, maybe he could help.
"You know you can tell me anything, Jessy. No matter what the problem is I'll do my best to help you."
"Sigh... It's Brittany, Sir. I'm scared that I'm not going to be able to protect her. These last few months have been really bad for us with the jocks attacking us and that killer that was at the fair, too. He nearly killed me with a single blow right in front of her. I could see the fear in her eyes as she looked down at me when my Dad came to save us."
"I see. Well, Jessy, at least you're alive now and she seems to be in good health."
"You don't understand, Sir. She was scared to death and I... I." I started to try and choke back some tears but they came anyway, hot and angry tears. "I couldn't do a DAMN THING but lie there while she cried."
Gray Muzzle got up from the desk he was sitting at and walked over to me. He put his hands on my shoulders and looked me in the face with a warm and caring expression.
"Son, you didn't do anything wrong. In fact, I think that you did the right thing by taking that thing on like you did. I would've done the same thing for my wife if we were in that situation. You was trying to protect the woman you love." Gray Muzzle told me. "Besides, if you hadn't been there who knows what would've happened because of that killer. If you weren't there to stand up to him, he probably would've gone out into the residential areas and caused a lot more heartache for people. Just look at that poor little boy who now doesn't have any parents. You, of all the people, should know what that feels like! Jessy, you without a doubt saved more lives than just that young lady friend of yours."
He is quite remarkable at making people feel better about themselves. I say that because his little talk made me feel better. The worry that I had for Brittany was still there but it wasn't anywhere near as strong as it was.
"Thank you, Sir. I'm glad I got to talk to you today because you always make me feel better about whatever is troubling me." I thanked Gray Muzzle.
"That's what friends are for, Jessy! They help each other out in times of need." He said as he patted my shoulders.
Opening my notebook I wrote down several phone number and tore out the page. These were special phone numbers that I only gave out to people I really trusted. They were numbers for my Dad, my brother Alex, and our younger brother Kyle.
"Sir, I want you to have these phone numbers. In case something happens to me, I would like you to call these people." I gave Gray Muzzle the piece of paper and pointed to one of the numbers. "Call him first, he's my Dad."
"OK! Speaking of which, Jessy, I thought that your Dad was killed when you was a kid. You even wrote about that horrible night in one of your stories."
"Yeah, my real Dad did die that night. Jason is my foster father and he is also the one who trained me and my brothers in hand to hand combat."
"You have my word, Jessy. If something happens, and I hope it doesn't, I'll give these people a call."
"Thank you, Sir! That means a lot to me. I tell you what, call those numbers if you even think that I might be in danger. That might be better anyways. Just in case something like what happened at the fair happens again I want Brittany to be safe. If anyone can protect her when I can't, it's those three. Especially my Dad and Alex."
"OK, I will do that then." Gray Muzzle assured me. "Now you better get going, you do have a girlfriend waiting for you out there somewhere in the halls. Doesn't he, Brittany?"
"Yes, he does." She said looking a little annoyed at me.
"Hi, Sweetie." I said trying to defuse the situation.
"How could you be so foolish? Call them so that I am protected? If you think we're in danger then don't you think you should call them so that we are safe?"
"Brittany, I...." I started to speak but Gray Muzzle grabbed by my shoulder and started whispering in my ear some words of wisdom.
"Trust me, Son. Just agree with her and this will blow over a lot easier for you. I will still do what you asked me to do but you'd better just say yes to her!"
"Yeah, you're right. Ok, Brittany, I'll call them if we are in any danger."
"Good! Now come on, we don't want to be late for dinner tonight or there will be another woman mad at you!"
"ME!? Why wouldn't she be mad at us?"
"Simple. I just say that you was taking too long talking with one of your friends." She said smiling, then she stuck her tongue out at me.
"Aww, come one. You know I don't get to talk to Professor Muzzle as often as I'd like to." I pleaded.
"I know, Silly. I was just joking around with you."
"Oh!" I said feeling a little embarrassed that I didn't catch on to the joke. "Ok, Sweetie. You go ahead to your locker and I'll meet up with you in a few minutes."
"If you're not out of here in 5 minutes I'm going to come back here and drag you out!" She said playfully.
"Ok, 5 minutes it is then."
When she left, I turned back around to face my professor.
"Thank you for everything, Sir!" I said as I gave him a big hug.
This must have shocked him a little because it took him some time to react to me. After a few seconds he embraced me in a hug of his own, patting me on the back with one of his paws.
"You're very welcome, Jessy." He said softly. "Now don't you think you'd better be going soon? You do remember that you have a story due soon, don't you?"
"Oh, yeah. I completely forgot about that. I'll see you tomorrow, Professor."
"Jessy?"
"Yes?"
"You can call me Gray, but only after classes are out for the day. OK?"
"Yes, Sir. Thank you, Gray."
"No problem. Now get going it's almost been 5 minutes and I don't really think you want to be seen being dragged out of here by your girlfriend! Do you?"
"You're right, I don't! Bye!" I said as I ran out the door.
It was a huge relief to know that I had a trusted friend looking out for me and my girlfriend. Her safety was still a big concern of mine but knowing that he'd call those numbers helped with the stress. I might get hurt or even killed but at least she'd be safe, and that's what mattered to me the most. I didn't know how soon he'd have to call those numbers though but I was hoping that he'd never have to. I was almost positive nothing bad would happen. Boy, was I ever wrong.
