Mother part 1
#1 of Mother
In the early 1900's, a dark shadow covered a small town in rural America. At that time, a young married wolf couple vanished mysteriously from their home.
The man's name was George, the woman's name was Maria.
Two years would pass, and as suddenly as he left, George returned. The wolf did not tell where he had gone or what he had done. But, he began an odd study, all by himself.
As for his wife, Maria... she never returned.
This is their story.
"We've been married for weeks now and still you can't think of a halfway-decent honeymoon for us. It seems that you're a new person ever since we got married. It's like the George that I knew as a boyfriend is gone."
"Would you please stop nagging me! I've worked out a romantic evening on the top of a mountain after we watch a play at the Live Show in Valentine. It's so secluded, I think there's one person who lives there in a cabin. We'll finally be all alone on Mount Itoi and I've heard there is a beautiful lake," George responded.
The wolf had always wanted to go back to Mt. Itoi as his parents had taken him to as a cub but going there was a long and treacherous journey before the railroad went through from Thanksgiving. The journey from their house involved crossing their hometown of Mother's Day and Thanksgiving, across a desert and into the small forested village of Easter. That was followed through a winding maze of marshlands heading due north until one reached the massive city of Valentine, the region's entertainment capital. Nearby, a traveler could only hope to find the owner of a mule to take them up the mountain. One family lived there on the top of the mountain, a self-reliant group of foxes who loved their mountaintop home, next to a place they called Trout Lake.
Only government scientists, mostly interested in geology and archaeology.would set up camp there to study the land formations and Indian dwellings there. The archaeologists had found that the Indians had built temples there on the mountain and believed it someday "to be the center of the universe and a place where the sacred and evil will do battle", according to their deciphered writings.
"I've always wondered what it was about that place- now I see why our honeymoon has been delayed. Mt. Itoi will be a fine place," the she-wolf said. Maria knew she had plenty of packing to do for their trip. It was sure to be a romantic honeymoon for herself and her husband.
The mroning came too soon as George and Maria picked up their suitcases which they had packed the night before and headed down to Mother's Day, saying hello to friends they met along the way. Their wedding was indeed a joyous occasion for the small town. Maria's brother drove them across the bridge to Thanksgiving, a larger town known for its technical school and also for being a stop on the newly-built Paradise Line, which connected the region from Snowman in the south to Valentine in the north.
"Two tickets, please to Valentine, sir. I see you're having trouble with the with opening the register. Maybe the supervisor could help get the register open.", George said to the horse at the station, whose lack of opposable thumbs made it very difficult for him to do his job.
"He's trying his best", Maria would say in her compassionate voice. It was this compassion for all living things,a trait not really known amongst wolves, which had first attracted George to marry her. That's just the way things were between the two- she was always this lovely female creature who was so stout-hearted that she would often go out of her way to help others, George was gung-ho and a type-A and had to have things go his way. But Maria had helped this headstrong, ultra-masculine wolf how to calm down and that was how the two were wed.
A check of the engine and soon the newlywed couple were off to enjoy their honeymoon in Valentine. The train zipped by the mountain pass, stopped at a station along the way and then continued its northward journey to the city of Valentine, a city known for its fine food and beautiful wine. Like the holiday it was known for, the entire city was "a place that celebrates love". In fact, that was the motto of the city, which proved to be popular not only to the people who lived there but also the many who would visit and spend their money in the city. It was also a premier destination for young lovers and newlyweds- in 1908, it was rare and considered highly inappropriate for two lovers to hold hands but in that city of Valentine, they did more than just hold hands- full embraces and kisses were common.
George had been a traveler much of his life before settling down to life in a beautiful cottage north of Mother's Day- he could remember his trips to the Northern Islands, the swamps surrounding Easter and the deserts which the train was now zipping south through. This wolf had grown muscles from all his adventuring, which involved climbing mountains, so much walking and even fighting wild beasts, that tailors had difficulty finding a tuxedo and jacket for hih during his wedding. This wolf was muscular, strong, and was quite a catch according to all the women who lived in Mother's Day and the surrounding areas. But as he moved his tail to allow his wife a seat and she collapsed into his strong yet loving arms, she spoke of the future.
"Our children will be strong and make this collection of small towns into something worth bragging about, right?" she said as their muzzles touched. With the car occupied by themselves and a disinterested goat reading a newspaper, they could express their true feeligns about this honeymoon.
"I do care about the future and I think our children will be happy, healthy people." In reality, George was thinking about more than children right now. He was more concerned with the means to getting those children, which he and his wife would explore in that cabin on the mountain, which they had rented out in exchange for work. The foxes, who grew their own food and lived secluded from the rest of society had no use for money and required a half-hour of work each day by guests, a small price to pay for a guest and work George could do very easily.
As the two rested their heads on their pillows of their bed, they thought about the new music they had heard and the virtuosity of the performers. Soon, the conversation turned to sex talk and that in turn became actual sex. They would not enjoy as much as they would when they got on top of the mountain but for tonight the wolves felt wonderful. As he inserted his knot and sheath into her opening, they felt ecstatic and they intended to ride this ecstasy all the way to the mountain where they would spend months in the cabin. Packed suitcases, plenty of provisions, and they were ready to see the most beautiful lake in the world. Little did these wolves know what destiny had in store for them...
