In Light and Shadows 1.5
A brief backstory I thought up these days for my long lost project of Matthew and Alex, hope you enjoy.
"What...
what in the world are you?"
The memory came back echoing in the mind of the light
dragon that night, as he slept cradled in the arms of his partner, Matthew. He
closed his eyes, and recalled the sensations that crept up his body that time...
that time when he discovered his fate.
"I am...
what your clan used to call the Shrouded... I am one of the Shades."
Alex felt shivers
going up his spine when the soft whisper returned from the past to him through
his memory, his skin tingling as he remembered how Matthew had whispered those
words years ago when their fated meeting would happen... the feeling of being
restrained to that slab of black marble, the shadows pinning him down firmly
yet at the same time embracing him softly.
"I... I
don't know what you're talking about... I don't know anything about any Shades or
Shrouded people!"
Alex gritted his teeth, he could feel as if it was
happening again, the feeling of Matthew's barely material body sidling up to
his body that time, the close contact of his cold yet comfortable skin. He
remembered the feeling of having his face so close to his own, his wings
draping around his light frame.
"Of
course you don't remember anything now... it all happened so long ago... but we
were reborn... as fate would have it that we'd be together. Remember my dear...
remember that fateful night at the Tower of Illusions."
And then his eyes fluttered open, Alex blinked a few
times, not seeing anything at all in the darkness in front of him, but not long
after he felt Matthew's arms around him, and his body spooning with him behind
his own. He felt his slow breathing while he was in deep sleep. Alex fixed his
gaze on the darkness in front of him, the outline of the bedside lamp starting
to become noticeable for him as he reminisced of the aforementioned memory.
"We are
meant to be... you are the light that casts my shadow."
A small smile formed on his lips, Alex felt warmth
traveling through his body when he remembered these sweet words Matthew
whispered to him that time, what made him make up his mind and believe in his
tale. Alex still was not sure of what had happened in the past life he always
said had... but he would find it out one day for sure. If Matthew had been able
to recall all his memories from his past life and recognize his new incarnation
he would surely do it someday too. Many months had passed since Matthew had
told him cryptical remarks about their "fate" and their "story" but he still
hadn't come to accept it entirely, he had to remember and that was his everyday
struggle.
"Still...
I feel complete with him."
Without another thought Alex slowly drifted off to
sleep.
