Silver Linings, Chapter 2: Revelations
Hello everybody, it's me again. This is the sequel to my first story, "Memories". There is no yiff scene because I knew I would not be able to fit it in with this section without ruining it. I promise you though, the next one will. And let's just say it won't be solo. Anyway, sorry it took me so long, I'll go faster next time.
As the bell marked the end of the school day, Jake gathered his books and papers together and got up. Ignoring the inane chatter of those around him, he quickly left the room and headed for his locker. Along the way he saw David talking with his friend, Blake. Blake was a very large and muscular panther, and had been known to beat up kids for the most trivial of things. The fact that David hung out with him both confused and worried Jake.
As Jake reached his locker and turned the dial, he continued to cast longing stares at David. He knew that he loved David, but he also thought he would never be able to reveal that fact. Looking one more time at David, he noticed that Blake was staring at him. He quickly turned back to the locker, but noticed that David was now looking at him too.
Jake hurriedly put his books in his bag and closed his locker. He practically sprinted towards the door, but was stopped just short by a firm grip on his shoulder. "Where are you going? We need to talk." a voice sounding very similar to Blake's said.
Jake's face went pale as he was roughly dragged over to where David was. David was staring at him the whole time, but Jake refused to make eye contact out of embarrassment. "
Why were you staring at my friend, you little fucking gaywad?" Blake asked menacingly.
"I......uh...it...it's not what you think..." Jake stuttered, his body too frozen with fear to speak.
"Oh really? I saw that look in your eyes. You like David, don't you? Well too bad, you little fucker. He already has a girlfriend." Jake knew it was a lie, but was too afraid to expose it. "Look at me! Look me in the eye!" Jake was roughly turned around and was face to face with Blake, who had a devilish look in his eye. Jake quivered in his spot and said nothing.
"I ought to kill you right here." ‘So it was true,' Jake thought. It had been rumored that Blake was violently homophobic, but no one had ever tested it. Jake's thoughts were interrupted when a huge muscular fist hit him square in the nose. He dropped to the floor without a noise except a surprised yelp. It was at that moment that everything went silent. The pain of Blake kicking him, David's yells to stop, and the other students mixed cheers and sorrow all faded away. Memories of his Dad came flooding back, a confused mass. But one memory took place in front of all the others. It was the last thing he had ever said to Jake before that fateful night. Jake had just finished telling him about the bullies at his school, and his Dad had given him one piece of advice. "Don't ever let bullies get you down. Know that you're better than them in every way, and stand up for yourself. Know that you are not alone in your fight against that bully, that others support you." A small but important piece of advice, it stuck out especially, being his father's last words.
Then everything came back. The pain, the yells, the cold ground. Jake came to and noticed that Blake had now turned around and was basking the crowd's cheers. Jake was instantly filled with resolve. Resolve and an uncontrollable rage. Jake's eyes went narrow, and he stood up, stumbling as he went. The crowd went silent, and Blake turned around instantly.
"So, you still want more? Don't worry, I can go all day." Blake said, laughing as he went.
"Unfortunately for you Blake, you won't last that long." Jake replied, his anger speaking for him.
"Ok, that's it you little fucker. Get over here!" Blake charged at him, his fist raised. Jake easily dodged to the side and hit Blake in the back with his elbow. Blake stumbled and turned around. Jake hit him with a quick uppercut, cutting his chin. His lean muscles allowed him to move with agility, but still gave his hits enough power to damage greatly. Blake's face turned red with anger and he lunged at Jake out of desperation. Jake quickly ducked under the blow and hit Blake with three fast punches to his hard abs. Blake, the air knocked out of him, almost collapsed on the spot. He stayed standing through great effort, his arm resting on a nearby locker. Jake stood still while he did so.
Soon Blake was at it again, lunging after Jake and occasionally landing one good punch. Soon though, Jake hit him with a drop kick to the face, and Blake collapsed in a bloody mass, almost losing consciousness. Jake, his body bruised and beaten even worse, turned to look at the crowd, who had gone silent. All of a sudden, they burst into cheers. Jake was confused until he remembered what his dad had said. "Know that you are not alone in your fight against that bully, that others support you."
As Jake was patted on the back and cheered all around, he also became embarrassed, as he knew that soon enough everyone would remember that Blake had uncovered that he was gay and he did not want to be around when it happened. While he picked up his backpack and walked to the door, he was again stopped short, this time by a much lighter grip. He turned around to see who it was this time, and found himself face to face with David, a confused look in his eyes
Jake was suddenly filled with fear of what David might say, and before David could even think of what to say, Jake had wriggled free and run, his eyes filled with hot tears. He ran and ran until he reached his car, which was parked as far from the school as possible. He quickly dumped his backpack in the back seat and got in. Here though, he sat, too tired by the day's events to do anything. He began to cry, the tears stinging his eyes.
After a while, Jake saw David come out of the building, looking for Jake. As he slowly got closer and saw Jake in his car, he tried to get his attention. Jake heard the soft yells and turned to see David yelling at him. He quickly turned on the car and sped away. He knew he should give David a chance to talk to him, but he was too afraid. He drove quickly, his eyes still filled with stinging tears.
As Jake pulled up to his apartment, got out and went inside. His mind kept coming back to that last look in David's eyes. He wanted to talk to him. He wanted to tell him that it's true, that it has always been true, but he was filled with a fear that would not go away. The thought was still in his mind as he unlocked the door and went inside. He set down his bag and went to his room, where he collapsed on his bed and began to cry again.
‘What am I going to do?' Jake thought to himself, his mind racing. ‘I have to go to school, but I can't bear to have to see David...' He continued to cry and cry, thinking repeatedly, ‘What am I going to do? What am I going to do?' He eventually fell asleep, and had nightmares about David hating him, even hurting him.
School was not going to get any better, but nobody could've known that.
