#1 of My friend is a dinosaur

And here we have another story, a brief introduction of a story series I had in my head for a few years now and I simply had to bring it to life, so it would not keep floating around in my mind all the time.

As always, comments, suggestions, corrections and critique is always welcome.

My friend is a dinosaur

Duck, jump, run fast, aiming around for possible enemies. Michael's heartbeat was going fast , as he looked at the screen, concentrating hard. His friend Sam was sitting on the other side of the room, playing against him on his laptop, trying to beat him.

It was just a one-on-one match of counter-strike, but Michael loved that old game. To him it had a lot more attraction than many more modern games.

Bang! Despite Michael's surprise he managed to pull the trigger of the virtual assault rifle just a fraction of a second earlier than his friend, ending this match.

"Okay, buddy. Looks like it is 13 kills for me and 2 for you so far. You up for another round?" he asked.

When for a few seconds Sam did not say anything, Michael looked over, seeing his friend simply sitting there on the edge of his bed, staring at his laptop.

Michael sighed, ended the match and rolled with the office-chair over to his huge friend, stopping in front of him. Sam was not obese or anything, but still chubby and Michael had often heard other students calling him an ugly fat-ass. Sure, he had some acne scars from early puberty, but besides that you could not really call him ugly. But well, sometimes, teenagers are just cruel.

"Okay, man. Just tell me what is wrong. Normally you would be beating my ass and wiping the floor with me in these games. I never saw you so....lost in your thoughts."

The other young man, kept staring at the screen of his laptop, obviously fighting an inner battle of what to say to his friend. Finally he closed the match too and closed the laptop.

"Mike....I...I have to make a confession to you."

Before Sam could continue, his friend placed a hand on his shoulder.

"I knew it. But you know....heck, I know I get teased at school for being bisexual, a lot. But I can deal with that, I don't know if you could do the same."

Sam just gave his friend a confused look before he spoke.

"Wha...what do you mean?"

"I am talking of course about your confession that you have a crush on me. And look, I really think that you are a really nice guy, maybe a bit rough around the edges...but what I want to say is that I don't know if I am already ready for a serious relationship, man."

It took Sam a few seconds to process this before, blushing deeply before he placed the laptop at his side, standing up and started walking around the room in front of Michael.

"You really thought I invited you today because I had a crush on you?" he finally managed to ask his friend.

"Well, besides....no there is no besides. I really could not have thought about any other reason why you called me today and then sucked so much at our match." He paused for a moment. "So...if you don't want to come out as the closet and tell me you are either gay or bi, having a crush on me....what do you want to tell me?" He rolled a bit back to give his friend some personal space.

Sam looked up, his eyes filled with fear, concern and doubt.

"Mike...what I want to tell you...please swear to me that you won't ever tell anyone that I told you about this, not even my parents. Please." The concern in his voice was so strong, you could nearly touch it.

Oh fuck, Michael thought, did he finally found a girlfriend and got her pregnant on the first date? That would surely be a hard thing to deal with, after all he was just seventeen, as was Michael.

But he lifted his hand for a vow, before saying "My friend, I swear to you, I will not tell anybody about this secret you are about to tell me. My lips are sealed, cross my heart."

Sam relaxed a bit, but only a little bit, before he continued.

"What I am going to tell and also show you, Mike, is something unimaginable, so please do not freak out, at least not too much."

Now Michael rolled back a few inches, feeling a bit insecure at these words.

"Man, your scaring me there a bit."

"I can imagine...because it is actually a bit scary...you see, this shape of me you see here...that is not the real me."

Michael raised one eyebrow at this.

"You're not coming now with some bullshit like you are a magic shape-shifting being that has to hide among human because you are one of your last kind?" he jested a bit at an attempt to ease the situation a bit.

But his large friend just sighed, anything else but relaxed.

"I guess the easiest thing would just be if I showed you."

He reached for his belt and Michael already thought he would loosen his belt and strip here in front of him. But instead his shaking fingers fumbled with the metal plate that covered the fastener. To Mike's surprise he slid the piece of metal to the side, revealing some kind of electronic panel, several dim lights blinking inside.

Before he could say anything else Sam pressed two buttons and the lights stopped blinking. The air started shimmering around him, like on a hot summer day over an asphalt street. Mike kept staring at his friend as within just two seconds the blurred silhouette of his friend became clear again.

But it was not the friend he knew. He was still wearing the exact same clothes as before. But instead of a nearly two meter tall slightly overweight human with only a mild tan he saw a slim creature standing in front of him, covered in brown feathers, a crest of bronze colored feathers covering the top of his head, his face sporting now a stump snout with big teeth and his fingers ending in claws. The creature opened his belt and lowered his trousers a bit, only to reveal a long slender tail that had been coiled around his waist until now.

Mike winced so violently at this, that he sent the office chair he was sitting on through the room, only to be stopped by the wall.

"What.....!" was the only thing Michael was able to say, gasping as he saw the feathered creature in front of him.

"I am sorry, my friend if I scared you. But...I simply could no longer hide myself like this." It was still his friend's voice like just two minutes ago, but his appearance has totally changed.

He waved his arms up and down once, like pointing up and down his body, some longer bronze feathers along his arms standing up, as if they were wings.

Michael's heartbeat was pounding like during a Marathon, he was barely able to process what he was seeing. Finally he was able to form a single sentence, barely a whisper.

"What...what are you, man?"

The creature lowered his fluffy tail on the ground, looking to the side for a few seconds as if unsure what to say, before he finally answered.

"Mike, I am not human, I never have been one. I am a descendant of....what humans would call a Dromaeosaurus.
