#3 of Someday, I Know

-Someday, I Know: Chapter 3, "Of Liberty"

(No yiff, sorry! This is gonna be a story after all...)

The morning came and Lucas woke up, happy as always to head to work.

Lucas worked as a cop for most his life, doing a great job and making tons of friends.

The police department of Scoothbert always ensured to do their job and protect the

people. He would do patrol and usually everyday meet Jimmy for lunch. Today they

ate at a little bistro, both half way through conversation. Jimmy didn't mention what

he and Marcos did the night before, but instead about Sam again. As they talked Jimmy

brought up a very interesting question, about Lucas' chief. "How is Thunder, anyway?"

Lucas laid his sandwich down and looked at the cars passing by for the moment. Thunder

was a lion, very big and strong, though also very nice. He was smart and always got his

team to work well together. Lucas had a crush on the 43 year old Lion since he started

working, always unconsciously flirting. It would be silly things, like dropping papers or

running into a closed door, to painful things like closing the door on his tail or dropping

hot coffee on himself. Lucas tried his best to keep the fact that he liked Thunder a

secret, though everyone knew. Sometimes it would seem that even Thunder knew,

though he never really said anything. He would just smile and talk to Lucas like normal.

After a minute Lucas spoke, still keeping his eyes on the road. "He's okay, I suppose. Yesterday

I was in his office when he asked me to close his window because of the noise from the streets. I did so, but as I was he stretched and his shirt pulled up a little, and I got to see his stomach... And

as I stared I closed the window on my fingers."

Jimmy apologized, though you could tell he wanted to laugh. "Well, maybe he does it on purpose? Like a sign, you know?"

Lucas just shrugged. "I know, but what am I supposed to do? You know how difficult it is to ask your boss out? Not even on a date, but for a few drinks, or for a game. I just never have a good enough question or I always chicken out."

Jimmy leaned back a little with a look of disbelief. "You, chicken? You've more courage then anyone I know, Lucas!"

"Well, not when it comes to dating. Why do you think I've been single for so long? I just don't have the guts!"

Jimmy placed his paw on his friends and patted it gently. "Lucas, you've nothing to be scared of. Any guy in this city would be lucky to have you as a boyfriend. You're sweet, caring, strong, and brave. You're a gentlemen at his finest, and you always make sure things are fair for people to the best of your abilities."

Lucas looked at Jimmy and smiled. "I guess so. Maybe I can, I don't know."

Jimmy let go and winked, adding, "And I'm sure you're not bad in bed, either. A little rusty, but not bad."

Both laughed until Jimmy's cell started to go off. "Oh... It's Marcos."

Lucas got serious and waved his paw at Jimmy. "Just take it, or we'll never hear the end of it. I should head back, anyway."

Jimmy smiled and thanked him. "Maybe you should work your way into it? You know, talk and happen to 'slide' the invitation to him in the conversation?"

Lucas was about to agree, but the phone rang again. They hugged each other and walked off, Lucas getting back into his car. He would try. After all, he was along for about six years and hadn't had sex within that period. Usually he just masturbated to thoughts of his old lovers or fantasies of Thunder, though he never told anyone.

When he finished patrol he headed back to the office to finish up for the day when Thunder was reviewing some reports. Lucas tried to walk by quietly, as to not disturb, but Thunder talked to him anyway. "Hello, Lucas. How was your patrol?"

Lucas turned slowly and smiled sweetly. "It was good. Nothing exciting, just had to give out a few tickets to some people who just moved here... I guess they didn't know you couldn't park in the fire lane, but who knows, really?"

"That's animals for you. Always making excuses." Thunder replied. Lucas waited for him to say more, but he didn't. He was about to walk away when Thunder called to him again. "Lucas?"

Lucas turned around once more to see Thunder looking up. He set the papers down and had his hands folded together. "Yes, sir?"

"I need to talk to you.. Well, more confess something."

Lucas' heart began to beat faster. Confess? What in the world would he be confessing?

"Of course, sir."

Thunder took a deep breath and scratched behind his ear. "I was looking through the fridge and saw your lunch. Naturally, I would of left it alone, but I forgot to pack mine, was strapped for time and knew you were out with your friend."

Lucas' heart sank a little. So much for the 'I love you, and yo love me' fantasy. "Oh?"

"Yes... And I'm very sorry, but I ate it. I'll be more then happy to pay you back or anything, but

I couldn't help myself. It looked rather good and again, I was limited."

Lucas lit up a bit at hearing this. "That's fine, sir. No need to pay me back, I'm just glad you were able to eat."

Thunder smiled and nodded. "Yes, it was quite delicious. Not like anything I've eaten before. Is it something special?"

Lucas often tried to hide his Irish side, as he never felt right about being a big cop protecting America, though not being American himself. Still, this was a perfect moment. "It's a family recipe, sir. From when I lived in Ireland with my father and mother."

"Ah, well, it was great! I would of eaten more if I could of."

Lucas suddenly had an idea. Jimmy had suggested it, of course, but Lucas wasn't sure how but he knew there was a way. "Well, if you'd like, one night I could host the game at my house? And you could come over a bit early for dinner?"

Thunder thought for a moment, but then agreed. Lucas was finally going to have his boss over!

"How about Sunday?" Thunder asked, and Lucas set up the time for him to come over. Everything was settled and Lucas left work extremely happy, heading home with thoughts of the dinner night in his head. What would he say? What would he wear? If anything, Brutus would have to be presentable and the house would, too. All these thoughts ran through his head until he saw a moving truck next to his house. The movers, two large bulls, took out furniture, boxes and various pieces of the furniture on the front lawn.

"Did someone finally buy the old Peatrie house?" Lucas said to himself as he pulled into his driveway. On the lawn was a young pup, maybe about 25. He had ginger brown fur and a white spot over his right eye. He was on his cell as the movers were taking things inside, only briefly stopping to warn them about the pool table and it's high cost. Lucas tried not to judge off the bat for anyone, but with this new pup he wasn't sure what to expect, though loud parties came to his mind.

Lucas stared for a few minutes before walking inside his home and laying his stuff down on the couch. As he yawned he jumped back a little half through as he noticed a young black cat sitting on the couch opposite of him. "Oh, hello there..." Lucas managed to say after a moment of silence. She just smiled and said, "Hey there," but nothing more.

"Who... are you?" Lucas asked, unsure of why she was in the house. "I'm Darlin. And you? Though, you don't really have to tell me, you're pretty much famous around the city. Mr. Lucas O'Gravy, the noble cop of the streets. Of peace, of justice, of liberty!"

Lucas took a bit of offense as she said this, as she sounded sarcastic and unimpressed. "Well, yes. And it's something I do with pride."

"No doubt. I guess you never lived much, have you?"

Lucas took a deep breath. He wanted to know who she was even more now, why she was in his house, and why she thought it was okay to insult him even though they just met.

"I've lived plenty. I choose to live carefully, though, instead of recklessly and endanger myself."

"So you think. I'm not saying being a cop is bad, but focus on the baddies. Rapists, murderers. Don't take it out on those of us who like to have fun. I remember one time I was at a party, totally

crazy fun. Then out of no where the cops show up and break it apart. I remember you were there, though you didn't see me. You and that other guy. The pig?"

Lucas recalled it. The booze, the sex, the drugs. "Lawson. It's okay to have fun, but not with illegal drugs, underage kids and loud music at three in the morning." Lucas replied sternly. They just met and she was already giving him reason not to like her, nor trust her.

She got up and moved to the bookshelf, flipping her long black hair from her shoulder. "It was nothing bad, we were just enjoying ourselves. You could of been stopping theft or something. But instead you come to crash the fun. I never got why cops do that, and in the end people always wonder why our justice system is so fucked up..."

Lucas had had enough and was about to throw her out when Brutus came into the room and greeted his uncle. "I see you met Darlin! She's the one who gave me her number at the talent show. We're going out to the arcade and stuff, so I won't be eating dinner here!"

Darlin came to Brutus and gave a wink to Lucas, taunting him once more. Lucas tried to catch the attention of his nephew but both were out the door quickly, Lucas recovering from what happened. He never thought his nephew would do bad things. Sure, he liked bad music, that heavy metal stuff, and had skulls and demons on his clothes, not to mention a few piercings, but he never thought he'd fall into the wrong crowd. For the first time since Brutus came, Lucas was truely worried. "God, parenting sucks..." Lucas muttered as he slouched into the sofa.

-Someday, I Know: End of Chapter 3, "Of Liberty"-

(A/N: Sorry! I know this was a long and boring chapter with no yiff and M/F ish niss, but this is very vital for later parts of the story! So anyway, Chapter 4 soon. And it will deal with Marcos and Jimmy, no doubt on that. For now, ask, "What about the neighbor?" Lol...)
