Unexpected Life Changes
My first public story, be nice please
Hey everyone, sorry that this, chapter, being the introduction that it is, is very short and rather bland, they are things that I have never excelled with, but I hope that you can enjoy what little that is there and please leave a comment on your thoughts of it. I promise it will get far more interesting in the coming chapters. This is, after all, the first story that I have actually written to be read by the masses, so I do request that you are not overly harsh on it. Also just so that way it is known, this story takes place in an exact furrified parallel universe around San Diego, California, however the exact location is completely fake so I advise not searching for it, for I am doubtful you will have much luck finding it. Anyways enough of that, enjoy your reading!
Chapter 1- Same Ol' Same Ol'
Fabian groans quietly to himself as he slams his open paw against his lit up and vibrating phone that is alerting him to wake up, only to be reminded that touch iPhones do not work quite like alarm clocks to where you can slam it with all the irritation of being woken up so early. The seventeen year old groans a bit louder and lifts his head to look at the bright light, randomly jabbing his finger at the blinding screen of the phone that lies on the night stand against his bed until it finally shuts up. Today, for Fabian, is going to be his first year of being a senior at high school, which also means that his sleeping schedule is completely screwed form three months of not going to sleep until 4am and not waking up until 12pm. After smooshing his face against his pillow for a couple more seconds to try and squeeze every bit of rest he can get out of his short amount of time to get ready, the wolf finally throws his legs off the bed and quickly stands up in an attempt to force himself to be more awake.
Now that he has the hard part of getting up in the morning out of the way, he as quickly as he can walks to the bathroom right across the hall, grinning a bit as he realizes he beat his brother to it. Content with the fact he is going to have the hot water for a nice wake up shower, Fabian looks at himself in the mirror to see how presentable he looks for the new school year. In the mirror, he sees a healthy, grey-white 5' 11" wolf with perked ears and a swishing tail, that is also completely butt naked. *well then*, snickering a bit at the fact he completely forgot to put anything on, he turns to the side a bit to give his backside a look, his light athletic build allowing the toned muscles to ripple their way through his light fur, but only just enough to be definable. Feeling content with how he looks and wanting to get clothes so he can shower, Fabian turns on his heel to face the door and right when he is about to place his paw on the handle, it suddenly turns and the door opens, to reveal his also completely nude younger brother, Cody, who it is more expected from because he's normally too lazy to even think of putting on any clothes first thing in the morning.
"Oh hey, look at that, finally proud enough of that sheath of yours to be showing it around, eh?" The younger wolf teases with a chuckle to which Fabian just responds with a blank stare and flattened ears. Cody, while still a year younger than Fabian, looks nearly identical in age to his older brother and is even built a bit heavier as well as slightly taller, even if only a little. They look so similar in build in fact that they could even be confused as fraternal twins, maybe even identical twins if it were not for the fact that Cody has more of a gold and black fur coat as opposed to Fabians white and grey coat. While Fabian just sits an registers what his brother said he is pushed to the side a bit as Cody squeezes between him and the door jam, making his way to the toilet. Shaking his head a bit, now finally registering his brother was just teasing, Fabian begins walking out of the bathroom and towards his room to resume what he had intended, turning his head to the side and slowing down for a second,"You better just be peeing and then getting out of there, I want to take my shower first today, because if I don't take mine first then you're going to end up using all the hot water and i'm going to be stuck with an ice bath again."
"Yeah yeah, whatever Fabe", The younger wolf finishes taking his leak and flushes the toilet before hopping up onto the sink, squirming a little to get into a comfortable position on his rump, his legs dangling off. Fabian, now having his clothes and towels walks right past his brother and playfully shoves the clothes onto his lap without even pausing, just going straight into the shower and turning it on. Once the older wolf is in the shower, the two brothers just converse about how they think school is going to go and about their new classes for the year, both having just had received their new schedules the previous day. After nearly 10 minutes they switch positions, Fabian hopping out of the shower and Cody jumping in. Quickly drying himself and putting on his clothes, Fabian takes one more look at himself in the slightly fogged up mirror and in it he sees a very fit grey and white wolf with more of a swimmers build wearing a tight-fitting, black short-sleeve shirt and blue jeans.
As Cody finishes drying up from his shower, Fabian walks down to the furthest room in the hall and opens the white door, splits emerging from the bust in the center of it from where something had struck it. Steeling himself and taking a deep breath as he wraps his paw around the round door knob, the wolf opens the door and walks into the completely dark room without turning on a light. Swiftly making his way to the bed on the opposite side of the room with only the dim light radiating from the hallway through the ajar door to guide him, Fabian lightly pokes an older wolfish looking silhouette lying on it, a deep grumble of irritation being his response.
"Tom? Cody and I are about to go to our first day back at school, figured I'd let you know.", the wolf, foolishly hopeful of a positive response just got an angry glare and a tired shove towards the door, the expression hardly being able to be seen through the dim light of the hall. through the open door. Frowning and folding his once perked ears back, the youthful and disappointed wolf retreats back into the hallway where Cody stands, looking into the darkness with an expression of concern. Giving his brother a quick pat on the back of Fabian as he comes back into the hall and closes the door, Cody shakes his head slowly and frowns.
"Fabian, you should already know Tom doesn't like being woken up to know we're gone, why do you keep doing it?", Fabian, unsure of how to answer just shakes his head quietly and shrugs, disappointed despite this happening every year since he started school. Thomas, or Tom, the wolf in the room, is Cody's and Fabian's older half brother; he is 25 years old and similar in build to Cody, though looking much older, in fact even appearing older than 25 due to the stresses of life. Thomas is the closest thing to a parent for the two younger brothers, for their father is gone from before they wake until they sleep to work or just to escape to a bar and enjoy life; their mother, when Fabian was just 9 years old, just left for a new man one day, completely abandoning them from her life.
Feeling a bit defeated at what just happened, the grey and white wolf tilts back his ears a little and trots down the stairs with his younger brother following closely behind him. Both of them used to not eating in the morning due to the financial troubles they face, the wolves just grab their matching black leather jackets off the coat rack by the front door and walk into the cold winter air.
As they pass through the gates to their high school for the first time in three months, Cody gives his older brother a friendly pat on the shoulder before breaking off to go see his friends, leaving Fabian to stand there and scan over the crowded quad, filled with many groups of people. Slowly beginning to walk forward as he tries to identify his friends through all of the people, he jumps with a start as he suddenly feels a firm hand grasp his shoulder; quickly looking back within a split-second to see what grabbed him, the wolf quickly goes from startled to irritated as he quickly recognizes what grabbed his shoulder. Behind him stands a six foot tall, lean and very joyful looking redish-yellow German Shepard with a bit of a silly expression on his face, who just so happened to be his best friend for a few years.
"Well hello there Fabe, someone looks like they didn't want to go to school today do they?", before Fabian can even think of some sort of a response, the German Shepard continues quickly talking, betraying his hyperactive nature "So what'd you do over the summer? You know, you didn't even stop by once which is probably a good thing cause I wasn't there most of the time...I actually went to Colorado fo-", Fabian, knowing that his rambling could go on for a few hours, quickly puts a shushing finger over the German Shepard's lips, "Morgan.", the German Shepard tilts his head a little bit and perks his ears, looking at the wolf with curiosity.
"Yes?"
"Shut it, you can tell me about it later, at a decent pace so I can understand what you're saying. Now tell me, have you seen where Jacob and all of them are at?", the Shepard, Morgan, slowly looks away and tilts his ears back, looking almost guilty.
"Erm, Fabian, I don't really know how else to put it so i'm gonna be a bit direct...but..basically they dont really want you around any more...and they wanted me to tell you, which is why I ambushed you right here at the gate, and not over there".
Fabian tilts back his ears and frowns as his friend basically tells him he's unwanted by the group of friends he used to hang out with every day for a year.
"Well...do you mind if I stick with you then?", the wolf asks to which Morgan happily nods and gives him a pat on the shoulder, stepping forwards and beginning to walk with Fabian right at his side, following his most trusted friend until it was time for school to start.
Fabian past the metal door into his new French I class, taking a glance at the white board and sitting where the seating chart that is projected on it directs him to. After taking his seat in the furthest back right desk, the wolf scans the room to see if he recognizes anyone, only recognizing a couple of people that he is rather unfond of. Feeling the familiar buzz of his phone getting a text message in his pocket, Fabian pulls out his phone and glances down at it before realizing it was just Morgan bringing up something completely random and not important at the moment. Shaking his head and closing his eyes for a moment at Morgan texting him while he's in class, Fabian slips the phone back in his pocket and looks up, to see his teacher just two feet away staring at him. Gulping and sinking back into his chair a little in fear of getting in trouble so early in the year, he looks up at his teacher with an obvious expression of guilt, the female Leopard just calmly taking a step forward,
"You're Fabian yes?" The wolf nods as his teacher asks him with a scarily calm tone considering the fact he thought he was about to get in trouble.
"It has been brought to my attention that you are autistic, is this true? Do not feel ashamed if it is true, I just need to know."
*What...*
As soon as Fabian interprets what exactly his new, middle-aged teacher just asked him, on the other side of the room laughter erupts from a jackal and bear.
"Mrs.Johnson?", The leopard nods,"I would appreciate it in the future if you do not listen to what John and Deven say about me, no, I am not at all autistic.", as everyone else figures what happened, the rest of the class either starts laughing or just whispering to each other while his teacher just nods and walks away to the front of the class as if none of it had happened and begins introducing the new students to the class.
John and Devin, the Jackal and the Bear, are both students that have always liked tormenting Fabian ever since elementary school, while not necessarily bullying by any means, they just tend to make everyone else want to avoid the already rather lonely wolf. Sighing softly to himself, Fabian just listens to his teacher introduce the course for the rest of the period, not really paying all that much attention to her as he begins wishing he could just go home already and get this final year of high school over with, so he can go and finally be himself and live.
The rest of the school day is a blur for Fabian, being fortunate enough to have one of his electives, Intro. to Business with Cody and his Principals of Democracy class with Morgan, though it's not clear if that one is too fortunate or not considering how much that German Shepard tends to get him in trouble for talking. Fabian walks straight to his room and flops onto the bed with the door still open, his brothers in their separate rooms. Rolling over onto his back, Fabian looks up at the ceiling in mostly darkness, beginning to day dream what life would be like for him once high school is over, once he can be free to be himself and have the mate that he wants, not needing to worry about what a teacher or a peer would think of him, because he could just have his mate always be there for him. But as far as he is concerned, that is all far in the future and something he wont have his hands on until long after school....but that is as far as he thinks at least.
