Lucario and the others got ready to fight as they were surrounded.

Jolteon used flash, stunning them briefly before they could get off an attack.

Gengar sunk inside the floor, and appeared in the middle of the rattatas that were stunned, before using dark pulse to knock them all out at once.

“You barge in here when we gave some reasonable demands, now you get what’s coming for you” Raticate said as he readied a move.

“We gave you a chance, and now you leave us no choice” Lucario said as he readied himself with a mach punch as his body glowed.

Raticate countered with a sucker punch just before Lucario could connected, sending the fighting type reeling backwards as he was punched in the face.

Charizard went to try and hit Raticate with his sword, who blocked it with his pickaxe.

Smirking, Charizard infused the blade with inferno, causing the blade to burst with fire, causing Raticate to back away from the heat.

“A chance that you didn’t think about” Charizard said as he helped Lucario up.

“There’s almost no end to them…” Jolteon said as he ramped up with getting rid of the cannon fodder by infusing his bullets with electro ball and shooting groups of rattata clumped up together.

“I’d love to see you all lining up for a turn with me, but that fat sack of cash is not worth passing up!” Gengar said as he used sludge bomb to trap and incapacitate a large group of them.

Rattatas remaining: 48

“Heh… You think that’ll stop me? I’ll keep going for the sake of living” Raticate said as he used strength to lift up a boulder the same size as him.

“...! Charizard! Behind me!” Lucario yelled at his teammate.

“On it!” Charizard got behind Lucario, trusting his leadership.

As Raticate threw the boulder, Lucario placed his palm up against it, causing it to shatter into several chunks that knocked out a few rattatas.

Rattatas remaining: 43

“Throw me over to them!” Gengar yelled at Jolteon.

Jolteon didn’t know what he meant, but he decided to do what he said, lifting Gengar up, who was suddenly light as air, and threw him in the direction of some rattatas.

Gengar changed his body’s weight and he applied as much weight as he could, scattering some rattata like bowling pins.

“So this must be his costume’s power, he could change his weight with it” Jolteon said as he double kicked a rattata away from him.

Rattas remaining: 37

“You think we’re going to just let you walk all over us? It’s time we walked all over everyone else!” Raticate said as he dug down on the ground.

Lucario closed his eyes, and sensed him coming right for Charizard.

“Charizard! Fly up! Now!” Lucario yelled at him.

Charizard got the memo and flew up right before Raticate came up from the ground to attack him.

As soon as Raticate came up, Charizard grabbed him, and seismic tossed him right on the ground, letting him go as he bounced up in the air from the impact.

Lucario followed up with an aura sphere, knocking him a few feet away.

The rattatas grew desperate, with the ones coming in range of Jolteon using Final Gambit to try and take them down with whatever numbers they had left.

“Gengar, go sink into the ground!” Jolteon yelled at him.

With no hesitation, Gengar slid into the floor as the rattatas changed their target towards Jolteon.

Jolteon began using agility, moving as fast as he could to make it seemingly like he had several copies of himself.

Each rattata that used final gambit all missed and expended the last of their energy, knocking them out of the battle.

“Grrr…” Raticate could barely stand up, as he was on his last legs of the battle.

“Give it up, you’ve lost” Lucario said as he thought the battle with him was over.

“You’re injured. It’s best we stop fighting now” Charizard concurred.

“Ngh… Not yet… We’ve still got a trick right up our sleeve! Boys! To me!” Raticate yelled as he stood up, his legs shaking.

The rest of the rattatas fighting Jolteon and Gengar stopped as they ran over to Raticate.

SPECIAL MOVE: RAT KING

All the rattatas wrapped their tails around raticate as dark type energy flowed to their leader.

Raticate’s attack rose vastly

All the remaining rattatas fainted, with Raticate the only one left standing, he didn’t look all that healed, but the desperation of this attack and letting the remaining rattatas faint made Lucario draw one conclusion.

“I got a bad feeling about this… Everyone, don’t let your guard down, one hit from him and I think we can get knocked out!” Lucario warned everyone.

“Keh! I’ll deal with this!” Gengar said as he charged ahead.

“Gengar wait!” Lucario yelled at him.

“Ngh…!” Charizard and Jolteon stepped back, not sure if they should chase after him or stay back.

“I got you now!” Raticate said as he readied a hyper fang towards the ghost.

“AUUUUUUGHHH!!!” Gengar screamed as he felt Raticate use hyper fang on him.

Raticate bit onto Gengar hard, causing the ghost to cry out as he felt severe pain from that one blow, stopping in his tracks as the pain was too great.

“Who’s next? Or would you rather I bring more pain to your friend here?” Raticate said as he smirked at them, grabbing Gengar by the chest of his costume as he lifted him up with one hand, showing how strong he was.

Lucario felt hesitant, the best they could do without endangering everyone was to use long ranged attacks without hitting Gengar in the process.

But before Lucario could utter a single thing, Raticate felt pain… Unimaginable pain.

“AGGGGGGHHHH!!!” Raticate felt the same pain, the same pain that only a rattata or raticate like him could deliver. The pain was so great that he dropped Gengar.

But none of the guild members were there to deliver an attack similar to what his kind could do… Unless…

“Y-You…!” Raticate turned towards Gengar, who smirked back at him.

Gengar was conscious enough to get back up.

“How’d you like my destiny bond? Feels great right?” Gengar said as he cackled almost evilly.

“You… You…!” Raticate then fainted right there, dropping onto the floor, joining his workers onto dream land.

Lucario ran over and pulled Gengar up.

“Are you alright?” Lucario asked Gengar.

“Keh! Of course! Do you expect anything less of me?” Gengar said as he didn’t look too messed up from the attack.

Lucario looked at Gengar’s arm, right where Raticate had bitten him, and took out bandage wraps that he had taken along with him.

“Don’t go using that move recklessly, I don’t want anything happening to you” Lucario said as he carefully dressed the wound up.

Gengar didn’t know about why Lucario would do this, didn’t he start hating him when he started caring more about the money earlier. Maybe it was because he considered himself the leader of this team… Or if he just really cared about him.

“Keh! What are you going soft on me now? I’m fine!” Gengar said, though he appreciated the notion inside his mind.

“If you’re fine, then help me with him” Lucario said as he pointed at Raticate.

…

“Raticate, we’re going to have you arrested on crimes of extorting Mayor Sableye and harassing him about getting paid for squatting in these mines” Lucario said to Raticate.

Raticate was left tied up at the entrance of the mine.

“Eh? Arrest me? Aren’t you going to be getting rid of me and my boys?” Raticate said as he was kneeling in front of them.

“It’s like he said, you were a bunch of bandits that tried to extort him one day, and you had no contract at all according to what he said. So even if you did work, you will all not be getting paid for it” Lucario told him simply.

“Grrr… You sound just like that mayor… And what are you talking about? We had a contract!” Raticate yelled.

“Then let me take a look at that contract if you’re so convinced” Lucario told him.

“Tch… Fine. It’s in my pocket, all crumpled up, not like it does me any good knowing you’re on the mayor’s payroll” Raticate growled.

Taking the crumpled up piece of paper in Raticate’s pocket, Lucario read it as he realized what exactly was going on.

“This contract says that unusual variants of pokemon are not allowed… Including alolan variants. What is this? Why did you agree to it?” Lucario questioned him.

“Because… Because… Because I can’t read” Raticate admitted.

“Seriously? You signed a contract without reading it? Couldn’t you have asked the other rattata to read it for you?” Lucario asked him.

“Because we were desperate enough for work and we didn’t care where the pay came from! Alolan variants like us are less privileged! We are not welcome in a lot of places because of how different we are compared to normal variants! They say we are not worthy of the same rights as the normal ones so they don’t give us the same opportunities. You should hear what they’ve been saying to us for years! It will confuse children? So we aren’t even worthy of being acknowledged anymore? Is that it?” Raticate said, finally admitting to everything to why they were doing this.

“Wait… So you’re telling me that… The mayor… He didn’t want to pay you at all because you’re not normal rattatas?” Lucario asked him.

“That’s not the only reason. He’s a cheapskate, and would gladly pay for less, or not at all. He’s prejudice against us just gives him a legal loophole around this contract” Raticate seethed.

“... Let’s take him to the mayor, he’ll know what to do” Lucario said.

“... So much for the money…” Gengar whispered.

Lucario heard what Gengar said, but chose to ignore it as Jolteon and Charizard followed him.

Lucario opened the door to the mayor’s house, and brought Raticate in.

“Here’s your troublemaker” Lucario told the mayor.

“Yes… Very good… But I am not paying you the bonus of bringing him here” Sableye said as he looked disappointed, but he would take the deal he was dealt with for now.

“No, you are going to pay us for what you told us in your letter. Now you can get rid of your problem yourself” Lucario told him.

“What? What does that mean” Sableye stood up and felt rather cornered by what Lucario said.

“You will be giving him a contract, a legitimate one this time, for all the work they did” Lucario said.

Raticate looked surprised that Lucario would try to do something like this for him.

Sableye stepped back a bit.

“So n-now you’re in league with bandits? I should call the guards on you” Sableye said as he threatened them.”

“Go ahead, we got the guild to back us up. So you better pray we don’t fight our way out and report your underhanded tactics to screw over someone you were taking advantage of to spare yourself some poke” Lucario said as he pointed at Sableye.

“N-N-Now look you see… I… U-Uh… Egad..!” Sableye stood up from his desk, backing away from them as he tripped and fell on his back.

“You will give them a contract aren’t you?” Lucario said as he got ready to charge an aura sphere.

Sableye covered his face in fear.

“Okay! Okay! I’ll give him a job! I’ll give him a job!” Sableye said as he didn’t want to get hurt.

“Stop it!” A voice yelled at Lucario.

Raticate had placed a hand on Lucario’s shoulder.

“Why are you stopping me? This guy just scammed you, and you’re going to just let him go?” Lucario said, feeling a bit angry at Sableye.

“Yes… But that doesn’t mean you have to hurt him for it. The guy may be scum, but you don’t have to resort to fighting just to get your way” Raticate said as he pulled Lucario’s arm away from Sableye.

“But why? Didn’t you say that you were already treated like dirt by everyone here?” Lucario asked him.

“... Yes. Which is why I am stopping you now. We may want equal rights with everyone, but we also don’t want to earn money through fear and force. If the mayor won’t back down and pay us from our protest, who are we to argue?” Raticate said as he gave up his poorly thought out plan.

“Then what are you going to do huh?” Jolteon asked him.

“We survived a lot of hardships for years, we can survive another one. Just let him go” Raticate said as he felt too defeated to keep up with his initial plan anymore.

Raticate was about to leave, when Sableye spoke up.

“Hold it. You’re going to let me go? After all the things I made you go through?” Sableye said as he looked at Raticate in awe.

“Yes… It’s not like I can hold a grudge against everybody. We just have to find our place in this world, even if nobody acknowledges us” Raticate said as he was about to leave.

“Hold on… I thought you were just a bunch of opportunists… And thought you were really all in it just for the money. You are all more hard working than I thought you were… How would you like to become my contractors for the next mining operation?” Sableye asked them.

“R-Really? Are you sure?” Raticate sounded almost touched by the mayor’s generosity, even though he was the one responsible for their unemployment in the first place.

“Yes… Your conviction to get paid, and unwillingness to get hurt… I guess it reminded me of when I first started out with this job. Being a leader of a large population can be daunting… I realized that I’ve lost my way, and you reminded me when I was still sparkling with more youth” Sableye admitted.

“I didn’t know you would have been like that. From the way you spoke to us, you didn’t sound humble at all when we first met you” Charizard said as he remembered their first meeting with him.

“And I’ve fallen from grace… That is why starting from now, I’ll be a better mayor. Starting by removing my prejudice about them. Who cares what color your fur is, or where you even came from? The spirit to work hard, and to do right by your people… Raticate has inspired me to be like him. I’ve got another mine to extract more crystals, but not the people to dig them up. So what do you say Raticate, do you accept this shameless, crystal eating fool’s offer?” Sableye asked him.

Raticate paused for a moment, he never thought someone would finally look at him like an equal, or be inspired by him.

“Yes. I am. I will never hold grudges, as long as they do good by me and my workers” Raticate said as they shook hands.

Gengar looked at what happened, and for the first time, he knew what it meant to be a guild member… At least a guild member in Lucario’s team.

“Ah yes… Your payment… Thank you for opening my eyes… I’m sorry if I can’t pay you the bonus but… I need it to pay Raticate and his workers the whole 25000 poke I owe them for the work they did in the mine they already cleared up” Sableye apologized.

“It’s alright, it was the least we can do. I’m glad you changed your ways. Though I now understand why you would try to pay us for less, you were looking out for your people right?” Lucario asked him.

“No, it was my own greed. But a deal is a deal, I still owe you 3000 poke, and the rare minerals that my top miner, Excadrill had promised. You’ll find your payment with the clerk at the bottom floor. Please take them, it’s the least I could do, for the lesson you’ve all reminded me of” Sableye said.

“3000 poke? The letter never said anything about that” Lucario said.

“Just take it as thanks… For your discretion… And giving me a chance to change” Sableye said.

“Thanks… Looks like not all politicians are bad after all” Lucario smiled, accepting the offer of the money as they made their way to the clerk.

Upon getting the reward, and knowing that Raticate and the rattatas were dealt with in a more preferable way, Lucario turned to Gengar.

“Here Gengar, you needed money right?” Lucario said as he gave him his own share of the 3000 they divided with each other.

“Huh?” Gengar was surprised by the sudden generosity Lucario was giving him. Was it because he was infatuated with him or something because of last night?

“You said you needed money. I don’t know what you need it for but you seemed like you really wanted some. I know it’s not as much as the bonus that Sableye initially offered us, but I figured you needed it more than me” Lucario told Gengar as he gave him a sack of poke.

“Lucario…” Gengar felt touched that he would give his own share.

“By the way… What do you need it for? You’ve been trying to save up for poke on our missions I noticed. What is it for? Are you trying to buy something expensive? You’ve even asked me for a loan once. I didn’t think of anything about it at first, but now it seems much more important than I think” Lucario pressed Gengar.

Gengar looked a bit serious for a moment, as if he was going to admit something… Before he changed his mind.

“Well what else for but to save up and buy myself a mansion of course! And an abandoned looking one at that!” Gengar said as he immediately went back to his carefree demeanor.

Lucario was not buying it, it was as if Gengar had something in his mind… But decided to drop it.

“That’s a nice thing to save up on. I wish I had something like that to dream about” Lucario said, wondering what he could do for himself in the future if he ever saved up enough for himself.

“Heh, well you can always live with me if you want. I’d be all yours if you want~” Gengar offered.

“Heh… That would be nice, I’ll hold you to that promise” Lucario said as he held Gengar’s hand.

Gengar blushed and scratched the back of his head, maybe there was something more to life than just money.

Despite that however, Gengar had a completely different reason to save up… But that was a story for another time.

Jolteon and Charizard watched the two and chuckled, maybe there was hope for them after all.

Somewhere…

Hypno, Dragonite, and the two vensuaur brothers stood in front of someone, someone that was obscured by the darkness of the room.

“So you failed to capture and lure any guild members we can force into our cause… I even gave two of you mega stones, and yet you all failed” The figure said, obscured in shadow.

“Forgive us, there were some unforeseen setbacks. The guild’s pokemorphs are stronger than we thought” Hypno apologized, feeling humiliated in front of their superior.

“Fools! We are supposed to recruit more into our cause… And if they don’t… They could have been great test subjects for our great leader” The figure said.

“We will not fail again. We will exact our revenge on-” Dragonite was about to say.

“I don’t care about petty revenge! I want results, so you better get to accomplishing something next time, or don’t bother coming back at all” The figure told him off.

Everyone went quiet, except one of the venusaur brothers, the first one that Lucario had fought.

“We’ve been doing yer thankless demands with no rewards all this here time! And yer great leader hasn’t shown himself ta us this whole time so why don’t YOU get him ta come here!? Unless he doesn’t even exist, or is just a fucking phony bitch that ain’t getting us anywhere close to-” The venusaur was about to continue until the figure turned around, and in a flash, struck him with x-scissor, moving at a fast pace in an instant.

And in that same instant, the venusaur was out cold as a mega venusaurite stone fell from his person.

“Shame… I had some high hopes for you… But it turns out you’re better off as a test subject… The great leader will only keep those worthy of being in his grand plans” The figure, revealing himself to be a mega scizor said as he kicked the unconscious venusaur away.

Vensuaur’s brother was shocked as he watched his brother get KO’d in an instant, speechless about what happened.

Scizor picked up the mega stone and dropped it into the now unconscious venusaur’s brother’s hand.

“I trust you will know when to keep your mouth shut, unlike your brother” Scizor said.

“Ah’ll be more responsible” Venusaur said.

“Good… I will bring this fool to the lab, your brother is no use to us being an overzealous piece of trash. We have more experiments to conduct. As for where you two will go next, I want you all to come up with an idea to lure more pokemon… I trust you will all be more discreet this time” Scizor said.

Hypno, Dragonite, and Venusaur nodded, leaving Scizor to conduct an experiment with his newest test subject.
