I thought I'd attempt something a little darker, but make the chapters a little shorter. The dark parts as you can plainly see haven't started yet.

August 10th 2027

11p.m and it was cold that night, no one could explain the rapid drop in temperature, some thought it was global warming, some thought it was God, though most just complained regardless of the reason. It had been like this at night for several days now and while most snuggled up in their beds, or turned on the heating in their work of place, those less fortunate where left to fend for themselves. One such unfortunate, an aged man in his 60s, long unruly white hair and beard, dressed in the same clothes he’d been wearing for years, meandered through the streets, his arms folded in front of his chest and rubbing his arms in a futile attempt to keep warm. He was frozen and he was exhausted, he needed to get warm or he knew he would die, just like many of his friends did, not that the general public cared.

He shivered violently and searched around, looking for anywhere that could give him board and food, some warmth at the very least. Many places were closed or full, or simply didn’t want to deal with his kind. He shivered and felt his hopes slowly fade, maybe he was meant to die this night. He continued on regardless, holding onto the smallest scraps of hope.

His journey led him out of the densely populated area and into newer territory for him, it was still a busy area but nothing like the middle of the city with skyscrapers surrounding the area. His eyes fell upon a lone building, he’d heard of it in passing and on the news years back, knew of the places history, maybe they’d be willing to give him scraps, maybe let him warm up. He had nothing to lose in trying, with that thought in mind his made his way to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria.

Upon reaching it he took in the fact the place was dark, a large metal shutter covered the front exit. Maybe there was another way in? Shivering he made his way around the back and found another door, he raised his fist and banged on the door while calling out for help then pressed his ear to the door itself in hopes of hearing something, nothing. He called out again and knocked a little harder, and the door came open. He paused, eyes wide in shock, had it broken it? He didn’t mean to. He gulped and made his way inside.

Immediately felt the difference in temperature, it wasn’t warm by any means, but it was much nicer than being outside. He called out again but once more received no reply, he shouldn’t have been there, he was breaking and entering he could get into a lot of trouble, he didn’t want any trouble. He’d get warm, that’d be all, get himself nice and warm before venturing back out, he wouldn’t touch anything he promised himself that.

Finding a radiator, he knelt down and twisted the thermostatic valve at the side in hopes the radiator would heat up, he prayers had been answered as he heard the radiator come to life and heat up slowly. He sat himself down beside it, in a quiet corner as he felt his body warm up with the rise in temperature, comfortable and warm he dozed off peacefully for the first time in days.

She heard banging, then a voice, then more banging, then silence.

Wolfie’s eye lids shot open second revealing her pupils glowing a bright red before diminishing moments later. She looked left and looked right, her CPU had detected an auditory disturbance there was a possible hostile force inside, that needed to be rectified immediately. She stepped down from her boat and made her way across the cove all the while listening carefully for any disturbances, she poked her head through the curtain and saw nothing, heard nothing. She’d best do a perimeter check just in case.

She started with the back door as that is mostly likely the intruder’s point of entry; the blasted thing was always coming open with the fault locking mechanism, made a sweep of the area checking every nook and cranny for the intruder. What she found wasn’t what she was expecting. She’d found him sleeping soundlessly in a corner of the pizzeria next to a radiator, from the state of his clothes, his hair length and the smell that rose from his body it appeared he was homeless. She’d expected someone trying to steal from them, someone trying to damage their property trying to hurt her or her friends, not this … not someone looking for a way out of the cold, and she knew it was cold, her systems were able to detect the low temperatures outside … that and Josh wouldn’t stop complaining about it being cold the past few nights.

She tilted her head as she looked over him, what should she do with him? He may have just been seeking shelter but he’d broken in, he’d broken the law, and that needed the correct punishment. After a brief internal debate, she knew what she needed to do.

The man awoke as a strange smell wafted into his nostrils, he blinked himself awake and looked up, his gaze landed immediately on the shocking sight before him. He couldn’t believe his eyes, he blinked, blinked again he rubbed his eyes but still it was a there. A white porcelain plate, with a burger placed up it, a side of fries and a small salad, beside the plate were some bottles, one labelled ketchup, another mustard and the last “BBQ Sauce”, and on the opposite side were three porcelain white cups with small handwritten notes on the front; coffee, tea, hot cocoa. In front of it all was a folded piece of paper. The man reached out and took a hold of the paper and unfolded it, there was a typed message, at least it appeared typed, though it looked to be written in pencil … curious.

“I found you sleeping and guessed you may have been hungry and thirsty, the burger has cheese on it so I hope you’re not lactose intolerant, I didn’t know your preferred sauces nor beverage so made you a cup of each, there’s a jar of sugar behind the cups, help yourself. If you are to stay here for the night, stay hidden, the night guard comes at mid-night, I suggest sleeping in the toilets, they’re clean, warm and I left you some toiletries to clean yourself.”

The message was signed ‘a friend.’ He didn’t know what to make of the note, no one had been here when he entered, or perhaps they hadn’t heard him, and where were they now? He felt his eyes well up with grateful tears and a smile form over his lips though hidden behind his thick scruffy facial hair. He quickly set about with his meal, taking his time and enjoying the sweet succulent taste of perfectly cooked food as the flavours exploded against his taste buds and filled his stomach.

Wolfie watched him quietly from the shadows a smile tugging at her lips before retreating to her cove. She couldn’t have hurt him, he had done no wrong in the grand scheme of things, besides this was Freddy Fazbear’s where fun and fantasy come to life, where miracles happen and hope is never lost, that didn’t just mean for the kids, sometimes adults needed their own little miracles.

She entered her cove, closing the curtain behind her, and climbed on top of her ship piece before sitting down and closing her eyes as she entered standby mode awaiting Josh’s arrival in the next thirty or so minutes.

Joshua was taking the long and tiresome walk to work, it took him about thirty minutes to walk there at his easy casual pace, he didn’t mind the distance, though he did feel very unnerved when walking around at night. The night brought out very weird, scary and very drunk people, it was times like this he had a firearms license. Joshua pulled his thick coat around him tighter as a chilly breeze blew past him, shaking him to the bone.

“Damn it.” Joshua cursed between cold chattering teeth.

He couldn’t believe he’d been working at Freddy’s for over a year now, how fast time had gone it was like a blink of an eye. His mind shifted back to the years he spent in high school in a different city several hours drive from this one, he’d made some friends, some enemies, some teachers liked him some thought he was a bad influence, he didn’t care, he just got on with his work, hung out with his friends and did as he wished. After high school his friends had begged him to stay, but he said he’d see them again, though now that seemed unlikely, he had his job and he had Wolfie , he had a good life so far here, not to sound selfish but he didn’t want to jeopardise that, and last he heard some of his high school friends had gone to college in foreign countries, others took some time to go on their own mini adventure around the world, there were still a few left in that city who he spoke to via computer and they still wanted to meet up, but he couldn’t; he had responsibilities here and it was a long drive.

Joshua exhaled slowly, his hot breath coming out like smoke against the ice cold air. He turned another corner and his eyes landed on something, he paused, he blinked, he blinked again, he rubbed his eyes. What the …? What is he looking at? A building. A tall single story building with a large red neon sign on the front.

“Katie’s Funtastic Diner?” he said quietly as he read the sign which had a cartoonish smiling dog, a golden retriever to be exact, with a large exciting smiling face, wearing a pair of blue overalls, arms lifted above her head in a “ta-da” like position, with a pizza in her left hand and a burger in the other. “Oh this can’t be good.” He muttered to himself and decided to take a closer look.

Upon reaching the new diner he saw the sign on the front, ‘Opening August 13th – 50% everything first day’. Joshua tilted his head and looked inside, suffice the say the place looked impressive; shiny and new … upon the walls were the latest version of cameras that Freddy’s themselves used, and there were more of them. “This place is showing off.” He muttered to himself.

“Hey!” a voice called out suddenly making Joshua jump in surprise and turn towards the origin of the voice, “what’re you doing here?”

The owner of the voice was a tall bald man, with a larger frame than Joshua, heavier built, he looked like he had a good 60lbs on muscle on Josh, in short; taller balder and more muscular than Josh.

“I was uh, j-just looking.” Joshua stammered out a reply.

The man came to stop in front of him then noticed Joshua’s uniform, “Freddy’s?” he snorted, “come to see the new and improved?” he smirked and crossed his arms, “Katie’s is gunna run Freddy’s out of business.”

“Ah so there are animatronics in here.” Joshua confirmed, he hadn’t seen any and he had been curious.

The man stared at Joshua as his brain calculated his own mistake. “Yeah well, it won’t matter if you know before long all the customers are gunna come here.”

Joshua blinked, rather confused about the man’s immediate hostility. “Uh … okay.” He replied not entirely sure how to make a proper reply to the man’s declaration. Then slowly began to move away. “Well I better go, or I’ll be late for work.” Joshua added before rushing off, he didn’t look back.

12’oclock dead, Joshua opened the door the Freddy’s and locked it behind him.

“Sorry I’m late guys!” he called out to the animatronics and made his way to his office.

Sitting down with a huff, he unpacked his dinner, left over lasagne and a cold beverage.

“Evenin’ Josh.” A feminine voice came from the right door.

Joshua looked up and smiled to a yellow chicken, “Hey Chica, how was today?”

The animatronic shrugged and moved in closer, “Not bad, one kid was sick on the floor after too many cakes.” She said with a grimace at the memory.

Nice.” Josh replied with disgust, “let me guess short round fat kid with more chins than China?”

Chica looked rather surprised at the young night guard, “You know him?” she asked.

“Nope, but it always seems to be kids like that.” He replied and looked through the footage on the cameras.

“Anything good on?” came another voice, female still yet slightly deeper and rougher than Chica’s

“Hey Wolfie,” the young man greeted, “nothing on, I don’t even know why I bother to be honest. Nothing ever happens.”

Wolfie chuckled, “Well nothing until you arrive.” She replied, she hoped their earlier guest had taken her advice, actually that brought a question to mind, “Still cold out?”

Joshua nodded quickly, “Freezing, people complain about global warming I think we’re having a new ice age.” He shivered slightly before removing his jacket, “got to admit, it’s nice to be warm in here for a change.”

“I programmed the heating to come on ten minutes before you arrived, make sure you’re complaining less tonight.” Wolfie lied with ease.

“I don’t complain a lot!” Joshua argued with indignation, “Chica tell her I don’t complain a lot.”

Chica stared at Josh, then at Wolfie whom was smirking at her, then back to Joshua whom looked insistent … “Uh … I hear Freddy calling, I’ll see you later!” she said, turned and quickly got out of there.

“Oooh, betrayed.” Wolfie said in a mocking tone as Chica left and smirked to Josh.

“I don’t complain.” He grumbled quietly while pouting.

The pirate animatronic chuckled quietly to herself as she made her way closer to Joshua, then placed her hands around his chest, “Hey come on, why bother sitting here looking over footage that’ll have nothing on it, just the same old, same old when you could be with the others and me?” she said, her tone switching from boring to excited to enhance her words intended effect, then she leaned closer till her snout was a mere inch from the young man’s ear, “or you and I have some fun to start the night off.” She offered in a husky tone.

“Well … this is very important.” He tried to argue only to have Wolfie whimper and whine quietly against his ear, “I mean it’s my job I uh … I could get in trouble if I don’t.” a slow deliberate lick across his ear, “I … uh, um … I …”.

Hook, line and sinker. Humans, men in particular, were so easy to manipulate. Wolfie gently tugged Joshua from his seat and took him to the cove where they’d play their very special game.

Freddy and the others were simply chatting to one another about the day gone by when Wolfie and Joshua made their return.

“Ah there you two are, you guys have fun?” Bonnie asked innocently.

Joshua blushed and scratched the back of his head nervously.

“Me an’ Josh always ‘av fun, digging f’r booty an’ sailin’ mighty waves.” Wolfie replied in her pirate voice.

“We thought we heard you yelling, you guys okay?” Bonnie asked, his ears sagged a little.

Joshua’s cheeks turned a bright red and even Wolfie gave a pause. Freddy just watched them with a bored expression, while Chica held a hand over her beak to stop her laughing.

“We uh, we was just play fighting Bonnie, ya know with swords, pretend sword, and uh Josh got me good.” Wolfie explained, while doing her best to keep her tone as calm as possible. Chica looked like she about to fall apart by how much her body was shivering holding in her laughter, both hands were pressed firmly over her beak. But Freddy’s next words just made her lose all control.

“I bet Joshua has a particularly large sword.” The bear said in a dull though slightly amused tone.

Chica had no chance and fell to her knees as the whole pizzeria echoed with her laughter.

Wolfie and Joshua looked mortified, Freddy looked amused and slightly pleased with himself and poor Bonnie just looked between his friend with utter confusion.

“I don’t get the joke.”

“Fuck you Freddy.” Wolfie grumbled with frustration while glaring at the brown bear who simply shrugged with a tiny smirk on his face.

After everything had settled down, the five gathered near the stage, Joshua and Freddy sat on chairs, Bonnie sat upon the stage itself, Chica on the floor with her back resting on the stage and Wolfie laid across the stage beside Bonnie with her head drooping over the edge while her pirate hat rested on her stomach.

“So guys, I think I’ve got some bad news.” Joshua said getting everyone’s immediate attention, the air grew suddenly tense, “On my way to work tonight I saw this new diner-restaurant place, “Katie’s Funtastic Diner”, didn’t get much of a chance to look inside but what I saw the place looks like it’s been kitted out with all the latest stuff, a guy told me there’s gunna be animatronics in it.”

The animatronics looked between one another, their expressions varying from curious, to confusion to frustration.

“What the FUCK?!” Wolfie roared out.

“They can do that?” Chica asked finally and looked to Josh.

“I, I … won’t they get in trouble for copyright or something?” Bonnie asked with worry.

“No,” Freddy answered then heaved a mechanical sigh.

“It’s a similar idea, but it’s not the same so, similar to why Burger King and McDonalds can’t do anything legal against one another.” Joshua replied. “And why back in the day there could be places like a Candy’s and a Rachel’s without any legal problems, it’s a similar idea but not quite the same, no characters are out rightly stolen just ideas copied.” He leaned back against the chair, “Heck if I’ve heard is right Rachel was an animatronic bunny that looked like a carbon copy of the old Bonnie model, but hey change the colour, the personality gender, throw on some eye lashes and change the name to Rachel and there’s nothing the law can do, it’s its own character.” Joshua explained.

The others turned their heads to Freddy for confirmation.

“Sadly, Joshua is correct.” The bear confirmed. “Unless they blatantly steal a character or idea from us without any or enough changes, there’s nothing ‘Freddy’s’ can do.” He then stood up from his chair, “but do not look at it that way,” he began in a calm tone of voice, “look at it as … friendly competition, a rivalry of sorts, they’ll get a big opening, then most likely we will do something, then they’ll try to top it and it’ll go back and forth.”

“So it’s like a tug of war?” Bonnie asked his ears perking up slightly.

“Exactly.” Freddy replied.

“Sound ta me like they be wantin’ a real war!” Wolfie growled with anger, her pirate tone slipping in.

“Wolfie calm yourself, I’m sure it’s nothing like that,” Freddy told the wolf hoping to calm her fiery temper, “besides there’s nothing we can do about it.” He quickly added, “As far as the law in concerned they’ve done no wrong, and we as a company have no power to do anything to stop them.”

Everyone went silent, mulling over Freddy’s words and the situation they currently found themselves in.

“Do ya think it’ll be nice?” Bonnie said timidly after a few minutes of silence.

“Shut up Bonnie.” Wolfie replied.

“Okay.” The bunny whimpered in return.

“Wolfie.” Freddy said in warning as he looked to the wolf.

“Sorry,” she apologised immediately then looked to Bonnie, “Sorry Bon.”

The bunny nodded in return.

Joshua looked between the four animatronics; Wolfie seemed to be the most frustrated on the four, her fists with clenched tightly by her sides a snarl upon her muzzle that she was trying to suppress. Bonnie looked quite upset, confused, possibly worried over what was to come of himself and his friends he was slouched forward his ears drooping over his face and his gaze directed to the floor, he looked defeated. Chica didn’t seem to know what to make of the news, her arms were crossed in front of her chest, a pondering expression upon her face. Freddy was unreadable, the bear seemed very deep in thought like a zen master meditating, Joshua was curious as to the bear’s thoughts but decided against asking.

“Hey guys listen,” Joshua spoke up softly, slowly the animatronics turned their attention back to him, “I know the news is kinda surprising but listen, this new place may have some fancy stuff and it may be new, but this is ‘Freddy’s’, ‘Freddy’s’ is a classic and everyone knows you can’t beat the classics. Sure they may have a great opening night, but I doubt their animatronics can even hold a candle to you guys after so long the hype will fade and Katie’s will be forgotten while you guys thrive. Because in the end, nothing beats you guys.”

The animatronics listened to Joshua, his words caused them to think, to realise, he was right!

“He’s right.” Wolfie said aloud.

“This is ‘Freddy’s’, we’re the best!” Chica exclaimed with a fist pump.

“Yeah! I mean, no one can out-rock me and my guitar!” Bonnie said as he held his precious instrument with pride.

Freddy nodded along agreeing with the others, before looking at Joshua and gave the young man an appreciative and proud smile. “I told you all,” he said confidently, “if anything is to happen because of ‘Katie’s’ it’s that our A-game will be pushed up, our best will get better our show, bigger! All in the name of trouncing the new place.” He stood up from his chair, “No matter what happens, ‘Freddy’s’ will thrive.”

“So, the only security they’ve got is some punk ass kid?” a tall man in a business suit asked from behind his desk, his back was to the man to whom he was speaking to.

“That and just some cameras, nothing major. Took some time to scout out earlier today they’ve got no other security measures from what I saw.” A bald man in a blue security uniform replied.

The business man went quiet in thought; his intensions were less than benevolent.

“Can you get in contact with Rufus and his pals?” the man finally asked.

“You want ‘em to do some damage boss?” the bald one asked.

“I want them to do plenty of damage. Pay them off, and arm them if necessary.” The business man turned around and looked to the desk, glaring as the photos he saw of ‘Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria’, “I want this done thoroughly and with no connection to us, do I make myself understood?”

“Yes sir, not a problem.”
