Chapter Seven

"Coal Run"

By

Furry Sith Lord

BH sat on a throne set up on a dais surrounded by the humans. It was time for the nightly celebration when the humans gathered and chanted to BH and chanted to him in worship. The hope was that if he was pleased he would send word to Gawd to bless the humans. BH had never once prayed or spoken to Gawd but he enjoyed when they worshiped him.

"If The lions wanna fight, we're gonna slaughter them." The humans chanted and they began to dance as if possessed by something. They sang the words in the common language.

"Zav Hu Chabar, Sheli hu nal-cham eyti." Was chanted in the ape language as the crowd cheered. BH smiled as he watched them dance in front of him.

"If the tigers come, we'll wear their skin and then." The humans continued chanting.

"Am ha cha-fe-sa, An-Cha-nin echad." The crowd shouted.

"When the elephants come, they're gonna be slain by our brethren." The humans yelled and the beating of the drums intensified.

"Zar-an lecha-binra, shaham arch-nehu."

"Lock 'em in a cage, parade them all around and then." The humans said and the dancing began to stop and everyone stood still as if waiting.

"Zav Hu Chabar, sheli hu nal-cham eyti, am ha cha-fe-sa, an-Cha-nin echad,zar-an lecha-binra, zhaham arch-nehu." BH chanted as everyone stood solemnly listening. The whole group howled loudly like wolves as they all sang together and everyone joined in, except BH, as they screamed and shouted the words simultaneously.

"I got eyes like the moon, claws like a dragon, we run hard, we run as one, we once were lost, we once were cold, we were saved by our Reverend Lord, he lifts us up, glory of old, we were saved by our Reverend Lord." They all chanted, then they whole group began to chant the word “Woof" over and over again. BH cringed at hearing the words because that was the name Hueman had called him, Woof woof, when Hueman kept him as a pet.

He remembered how he snapped Hueman’s neck in front of Lou and Tyger as they looked in shock. He blamed the murder on them and they ran as fast as they could as the humans chased after them to get revenge.

The hairless apes changed their name to humans in honor of Hueman after he was murdered. They saw BH as their new messiah and he was fine with that. It made him glad he killed the boy to both be rid of him and to make the humans lov him more.

"The wolf is my friend, he fights for me, run with the pack, we are one, call the pack, they're our brethren." Maxx chanted in the common language what words BH had said in the Ape language. The humans continued to dance and sing as Maxx made his way to BH on his throne.

“They look so happy and harmless like this.” Maxx remarked and BH had to stifle a laugh. If anything the humans looked even more dangerous like this as they pretended to act like wolves.

“What story are you going to tell them tonight?”

“Remember that anime you said you liked? The Arctic Dog Fox! I thought you and them might like it.” Maxx said and BH reached out his paw making Maxx obediently kneel so that BH could pet him.

“Thank You, Reverend Lord.” Maxx replied gloomy. He had to be obedient otherwise the humans might turn on him. Their love and devotion towards BH was strict and any betrayal, no matter how minor, would incur their wrath.

“You’re my best man Maxx. Even now it’s just for show to keep the humans happy.” BH replied. Maxx guessed it was his way of explaining the petting so Maxx would not take it personally.

Maxx knew he had to endure the humiliation because otherwise they might turn him into a pet like they did to the prisoners they kept. The humiliation they endured was far worse than what he faced.

“Oh, and do me a favor. When you are telling Speedy The Fox’s story tonight then add a little something extra to the ending. Just to give it a little bit more satisfying way to end the tale, OK?” BH asked.

“As you command, Reverend Lord.” Maxx said then he tried to change the subject. “A shame Rowlf isn’t here. He has the best singing voice out of all the apes…. um I mean humans.” Maxx blushed over his mistake and hoped BH would not punish him for it.

BH laughed out loud and everyone stopped and looked at him not sure of how to take his reaction. He rose and clapped his paws before addressing the crowd.

“Marvelous, marvelous! Everyone has done a great job AND I am looking forward to tonight;’s tale, eh?!” He said then turned to look at Maxx and the applause got louder. Maxx raised his hooves and waved to the crowd as the cheer got even louder than it already had.

“How about a poem,” Maxx said and everyone cheered and screamed.

“Let’s get the tables set up and the food brought out.” BH ordered and the Pets began to set up and bring out the nightly meal. The humans crowded around Maxx as he waited for everyone to get close before he recited the poem he had remembered.

“Ahem…

“A Tree”

by S Quirrel.

I think that I shall never see.

A Poem as lovely as a tree.

A tree whose branches on which I play.

Where I love to spend my day.

On it I sleep at night.

And run around when it is light.

Oh how I love this tree.

With it I will always be.”

Maxx bowed as he finished reciting the poem and the humans clapped. It was a polite clap because they were really not that interested in trees but they did not want to seem rude. There would be thunderous applause later after he finished the story he tells from movies he’d seen.

Some distance away a group of hunters crept among the trees they navigated through. Rowlf and the hunters he chose were tasked to collect coal to power up the city they occupied. They had brought some teenage pets, that knew how to hotwire cars, with them to make the taask of transporting the coal back easier.

Each of the humans wore backpacks they had stolen from the city stores. Most carried extra food and other things that BH had told them to bring. A couple of the hunters kept some extra weapons in case they needed to hunt for food.

So far they had yet to find the type of vehicles they needed. This forced them to travel on foot until they could find a mode of transportation. They had passed several cars but Rowlf told them to leave them alone. He had heard too many tales from Maxx about how the Coppers were attracted to cars being stolen.

“Sir, we’re almost to the next city,” One of the hunters said to him. “Still no car we can use?” Rowlf turned to face the young hunter and noticed that his skin was the lightest shade out of them all. He did not have white skin like Hueman used to before he was murdered but the dark pigment they all have is a lot darker than this young man’s.

“Shimoan, don’t worry. You’re too uptight and as Maxx says if ya cool then the Coppers won’t expect anything.” Rowlf replied but the boy had a look of disbelief on his face. There was a sudden sound in the distance of thunder and the hunters groaned.

“Rain is coming, sir.” Shimoan said and Rowlf had to bite his tongue to avoid lashing out at the boy for stating the obvious.

“We’ll have to run to make it to the city in time.” Rowlf said to the group. “Boots!” He shouted and the black and white tuxedo house cat ran up to him and knelt on the ground with his head lowered. Rowlf reached out and grabbed his face to make him look at him.

“Can you unlock house doors?” He asked and the Boots nodded that he could. “Excellent! The first house we come to you open for us so we can take it over.” Rowlf said.

“And if that house is… occupied?” Another one of the hunters asked.

“We’ll have some new pets to add to our collection.” Rowlf retorted.

“How? We have no Pet Collars to put on them.” Paul asked. He was a friend of Rowlf and known as one of the best trackers out of the hunters. He used his nose to sniff out the prey they were hunting.

“I brought some with me just in case we needed them. It’s like Maxx always says, "Be Prepared!” Rowlf said and his friend’s expression brightened as he nodded in agreement. He was one of the first hunters to find Maxx and had learned all the stories he told about how easily he could outwit the police.

They did not know that Maxx was lying and making up stuff he had seen on television to try and impress them. Mostly because he was afraid of what they were planning to do with him. The humans did not know what television was so they believed that the lies he told were all real.

Dabid, Paul, Rowlf, and Jayson were the original 4 hunters BH took with him when he went to cubnap Maxx. They were the first to believe in his stories and are still his biggest fans!

The thunder was heard again and the human began to run towards the city with their Pets following them. Rowlf grabbed Boots by his collar and made him keep pace with him. He wanted to make sure the feline was up front to unlock the nearest house so they could sneak inside.

They felt the start of raindrops hitting them as they neared the beginning of the city. The hunters silently cursed but kept their voices soft so not to be heard. The last thing they wanted was anyone alerting them to their presents.

The first building they saw when they entered the city was a small apartment complex. Rowlf had his hand on Boots’ scruff of the neck and was ready to scruff him if he should try anything. They entered and Boots was told to pick the lock on the first door they saw.

The hallway was cramped and a couple of the Pets had to stay outside as they got soaked by the rain. Everyone inside was pressed up against each other kin the little spac there was. Rowlf had to push everyone away so that Boots could kneel and begin to pick the lock with the tools he had.

The door had a sign that said manager written on it though none of the humans could read or understand the common language. The Pets could read it but the slave collars prevented them from speaking.

Everyone was silent as Boots picked at the lock trying to line up the tumblers of the locking mechanism. The sound was little clicks as he had two picks inserted into the lock and he was pulling one in and out.

“What the hell is going on here?!” A female warthog, with curlers in her hair, shouted as she threw open the door of her apartment. Boots stared at her stunned while Rowlf grabbed her and placed his hand over her mouth. The rest of the humans ran inside the tiny apartment and dragged the rest of the Pets in with them.

The dimly lit living room had a television on with a nightly soap opera playing that the owner loved to watch. The room was as cramped as the hallway and Paul held the female while Rowlf retrieved a slave collar from his backpack he was wearing.

Once she was given the same orders as the other Pets, a hunter ripped off her nightgown leaving her to stand there in only her gray skin. She was pushed into a room that the other Pets were tossed into.

“What now?” Irric asked. He was one of the taller hunters and he was the closest to Rowlf as they all stood elbow to elbow.

“We rest for the night and hope the rain lets up in the morning. If nothing else we get to watch television tonight.” Rowlf said and the rest laughed as one of the hunters started changing channels to find something interesting to watch.

“Here’s one about Coppers arresting animals they catch.” The hunter said as he turned on an episode of "Coppers.” The hunter exclaimed and the others tried to squeeze in to watch it.

“Bad Furs, Bad Furs, whacha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when they come fur you?” The hunters chanted the theme song as the show began.

The next morning Rowlf was relieved to see the rain had stopped. The sky was still gray colored meaning it could start raining again at any minute. The Pets were scratching at the door of the room they were locked in. It had no access to a toilet so they scratched at the door to ask for permission to use the toilet.

A couple of the Pets had accidents in the corner of the room and they tried their best to clean it up. Their human owners had been ignoring them all night. The female warthog was annoyed at having her house soiled even though she understood why it happened.

Rowlf opened the door and the Pets all ran to the toilet. He turned his attention towards the hunters that were still sleeping on top of each other in a big pile. He stretched out his hands and began to pray over them by closing his eyes.

“Lord Gawd, You who sent your son Hueman to lead Your people. I ask that you bless us the hunters chosen to carry out the will of The Reverend Lord. Help us to find the black stone we need and the metal trucks needed to carry it. We ask in Your precious name, BEAR! AhMen.” Rowlf prayed.

The Humans began to call the name of Gawd “Bear” because BH had been trying to convince the humans that Bear, the former leader of The White Citadel turned actor when Lou put a slave collar on him, erasing his memories, was actually Gawd incarnate. BH told them that Bear was pretending to need help in order to test the human’s faith in Him.

The humans began to call Gawd the name Bear now when they prayed. It was easy since they saw BH as their new prophet and named him Reverend Lord.

“Wake up!” Rowlf ordered as he kicked the nearest hunter next to him and the hunters slowly woke up groggy. They had been watching the television late into the night.

“Just a few more minutes, mommy,” Shimoan whined as he rubbed his eyes. The comment received a few chuckles from the others. Rowlf was not amused and walked over and pulled him to his feet by tugging on his ear.

“Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow,” Shimoan cried and the rest quickly became silent. They quickly rose and waited while Rowlf went to the Pets to order them to cook breakfast. The female warthog led the way and began to cook as she tried to silently give orders to the teens. They seemed to have no idea how to cook so they mostly watched and stayed out of her way.

“She’s a good cook,” Paul said as he swallowed a mouthful of scrambled eggs. Irric agreed by shaking his head because his mouth was too full to reply.

“Speaking of which, she needs a name.” Budar said as frowned after taking a drink of coffee. He hated the taste of it but it was the only thing the Pets were serving this morning.

“How about Onkies? Isn’t that the sound that pigs make?” A hunter said. The rest muttered the name among themselves.

“I like it!” Paul said. The others all agreed with him.

“Then her name is now Oinkies.” Rowlf announced. The hunters began to chant her name over and over again.

“Sir,” Shimoan said as he raised his hand. “Question. She is older than the other Pets and may slow us down. What should be done with her?” He asked.

“That’s a good point,” Rowlf replied as he thought about it. “We could leave her here and pick her up on the way back.”

“But suppose something happens and we forget? We leave her here to die?” Paul asked. This brought a round of murmurs from the others.

“What if we leave someone here to keep watch so that we have to get them?” Budar asked. This caused more murmurs among the hunters and a bit of excitement as the idea that whoever stayed could rest here and watch television the whole time.

“I’ll volunteer to stay,” Shimoan replied, then several of the other hunters spoke up as they volunteered. Before Rowlf could answer he saw a large truck drive by that had the words “Jack Bassett Whiskey” painted on the side. A picture of black colored bottle filled with an amber liquid was next to the words.

Rowlf ran out of the apartment building holding a nightgown he grabbed on the way out. He had a wig with curlers in it and began to dress himself up so that he looked like an animal and not a human. He did this while he chased after the truck to see where it was going.

The rest of the humans stayed behind as they argued about who would get to watch television all day. The warthog was trying to direct the other Pets to where she kept cleaning supplies so they could clean the mess they made in the room they were held in.

The humans never closed the door so the Pets now had free rein to move about though they were still prisoners.

“Remember to let her have the upper hoove. She’ll let her guard down if she’s convinced he’s the smartest person in the room. From there you can manipulate her! Only don’t act like a fool or she might become suspicious.” Merrik explained to my father for the millionth time. We were all sick of hearing it as they prepared for a meeting Layla had set up with them.

Merrik had called and set up the meeting so his surrender over to C.I.Z.A. So be accomplished. It was the first step in the plans he and Lou had been working on. It was odd but I never thought they’d ever be able to work together.

I ended up giving a little kick to my brother because Lyon was teasing Ben. Ben still felt humiliated over last night’s events and Lyton kept trying to rub it in. Of course he’d laugh and hug Ben to try and smooth it over but Ben just ended up feeling worse.

“Cut it out,” I scolded him as I scruffed him. He was too busy whining about the little kick I gave him that allowed me to grab his scruff and I then angrily whispered to him. He quieted down and mumbled an apology to Ben but Ben seemed to not hear as he was moping about.

Once I released Lyon, I went over and hugged Ben. He rested his head on top of mine and though this display would make me want to instinctively break away I allowed it as I smelled contentment from his scent.

“Will you stop?! I know what I am doing. YOU need to remember to just sit there submissively as if I am in charge of you.” Lou complained as he lost all patience with Merrik.

“She could definitely be your sister because you both act exactly alike. The flaws you find in her are the same ones YOU have.” Merrik complained. Leggo happily walked over and placed a set of pawcuffs on Merrik.

“Just remember that you are Mel until I remove the fake collar.” Lou instructed.

“I know,” Merrik grumbled.

“Which means you need to act like a puppy.”

“Excuse me? What did you say?” Leggo asked shrewdly and Lou missed what he was getting at.

“I said, Act like a puppy!” Lou shouted then he saw the grin on his husbands face and he covered his own face as he realized he fell for it.

“Well if you insist,” Leggo said. Leggo began to dance and Lyon ran up and joined in as they danced with no music playing. Surprisingly even Merrik joined in despite being cuffed as the white lion and the two wolves started dancing.

Lou shook his head as he kept his face covered while he blushed from humiliation. No matter how many times he scolded Leggo and told him “To Stop Acting Like a Puppy” he fell into a trap getting him to say the opposite.

The three of them now had free reign to act how they wanted, hence the dancing, I walked over and rubbed my father’s arm hoping to make him feel better when suddenly Ben walked over and hugged me then suddenly my father joined in as I stood there annoyed that I was being hugged by my father and boyfriend at the same time. I wasn’t sure but I had a feeling they were doing it deliberately.

I was relieved as Lou’s phone began to beep alerting him that it was time to leave. He released me and went about getting everyone ready. Lyon kept dancing being unaware that Leggo and Merrik were pulled away. Ben and I watched him waiting to see how long before he realized what was going on.

He probably would have realized it sooner but he had been dancing with his eyes closed as he enjoyed the freedom.

“What?! Where’d everyone go?” Lyon said weakly. Ben and I chuckled before I explained it to him and Ben got a little dig in for the teasing Lyon had given him.

“Just because you two are older doesn’t mean you get to be jerks.” Lyon complained.

“And just because you’re younger doesn’t mean you get to pick on Ben either. Even if he’s gonna be your brother when we’re of age.”

“Jerks,” Lyon complained as he stuck his tongue out at us. We ignored it and went after our parents and Merrik to see them off. I was concerned by what Merrik had said about my father. If she was as every bit as shrewd as my father was he was not going to have an easy time with her.
