He was once human, but in the wake of a new world, things have drastically. "How did this happen?" "Why did this happen?" He asked himself to no avail. In this new life, will he set out to find the reason why? What will become of him? In this new world, will he regain his humanity, or will he remain under the guise of the dragon he has become?

With an abyssal dark consuming my conscious mind, my body came to feel like it had been separated from the reality I once knew. It had felt like my soul was ripped from my physical form, but for some reason I was still attached to it. What was once my own body began to feel like it no longer belonged to me. I was unneeded now. My own sense of self was fading away, but something, someone, whatever it was, was rejecting the act of my disappearance, and because of that, I was still connected to my physical existence. I can't run away. I can't defend myself. I can't even move a single finger. Whatever was happening to me, I could feel every cell in my body screaming in agony at me. Pain. Pain. Pain. True pain of the likes I've never experienced before. My limbs, my bones, being stretched and pulled by a tight force that I couldn't see. My spine crackling and growing to the point I could feel it spear out of my flesh. My waist being crushed and squeezed that I could feel it reshape my hip and chest. My teeth felt like something at first was trying to rip them out as they were pulled down, only to then sense something push into them and give them a new form. The tentacles of this inky black void hooking themselves into the front of my skull and jaw, gradually dragging them forward. A roaring heat eating away at my skin, burning off everything until a heavy chill froze what was left of me, hardening my form in an icy shell of this entity's cold torment.

As my thoughts narrowly drifted through my mind, I could no longer fade away at this point. Even if I wanted to, whatever was happening to me, had me trapped in myself as every atom in my body was rearranged. I can't scream for help. I can't beg for whatever is doing this to me to stop. I can't even make a squeak of a sound. As I can only pray for this to end, for a more swifter death, something began to change. Suddenly a soothing warmth wrapped around me like a mother's love comforting her child. All the pain was gone. The gentle sensation that blanketed me broke away the solid shell that encapsulated me, while a softness that I could only describe as the fur of an animal gripped my body. With that, I could feel my heart beat. With that, I could feel the source of my soul pulsating throughout my existence. My muscles tightened as I felt my fingers clinch into a fist and then open. My arms and legs stretched out as I could arch my chest forward. Finally, from the void I was trapped in, a light began to flicker as I could finally see a path to salvation.

A light groan escaped my throat as my eyes gradually unfastened themselves. The very first thing to hit my gaze was the unfamiliar sight of a stone gray ceiling followed by a brick wall of the same color. Immediately following that, I was greeted with not the typical sight of my nose in my peripherals, but something more elongated in its place. With what looked to be a coating of a very pale salmon pink fur covering it, it appeared like I had some sort of muzzle. I could feel the length of my tongue extending down and touching my teeth at the end of this protrusion, thus signifying that this was indeed a part of my body now. I then quickly grasped my face as my heart began to race, and from what I could feel, the form of my head no longer felt human. Aside from feeling more fur, the actual dimensions of my skull felt more like a rounded angular shape; sort of that like a reptile's. After that, I then instantly noticed another thing wrong with me, with the same shading of light pink, my fingers, my hands, my arms, all had a coating of hair while on the tips of my fingers looked like tiny claws.

“What the hell-"

I quickly clutched my throat after hearing the sound of my very own voice. My voice is slightly deep with a low tone, or at least that's how it should be. No. When I just spoke, my voice was much higher pitched now, filled with femininity with no hint of masculinity at all. Those words weren't that of a man's, this voice was that of a woman's. With that, a new sense of dread filled my being as I slowly looked down. What I originally knew with my body was that while I wasn't full of muscles, I had at least kept myself somewhat in shape, but that was what I knew. Now though, I was completely naked, and with that, I could see the coating of fur completely covering my body. I was Lilith in shape as two mounds sat hanging from my chest. My hands violently shook in disbelief as I could feel my fingers gradually sink into my new breasts. I instantly released myself as another realization hit me as I moved one hand down between my legs and could sense that something was missing. In the place of what was gone was now the slit of a woman's genitalia. If I wasn't already sitting down, I think I would have crashed to the ground at this point.

I was about to scream from the insanity of all of this, but as my rising gaze caught onto another disturbing feature, I still remained silently horrified. I no longer had normal looking feet with five toes, instead I had what looked to be like three-toed paws with very sharp looking claws as my nails. Following the view from that as my head creaked left, my eyes trailed along with this long length of fur that sat on the ground that connected to near my rear. I could feel all the joints, all the muscles, and every grain on the ground touching it. Almost like I was flexing another limb, I could move it in a direction of my choosing as I was just punched with the fact that I have a tail now. Judging by its length, my new appendage looked to be about five feet long. With everything now in place, I finally screamed my head off.

What happened to me!? This can't be real! This has to be a dream! A dream…Yeah, it has to be! I must have simply fallen asleep. I'm probably still in the real world sleeping at my desk in the math classroom, so I should be waking up any minute now. I'll just wake up and be back at the University of Lincoln. Any minute now…Come on now…

Maybe…Maybe I just need to pinch myself.

After wincing in pain and discovering a soft set of scales hiding underneath all my fur, I quickly unlatched my jaw and threw my arm into my maw, ready to bite down since obviously a pinch wasn't good enough. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't force myself to bite down as I started to whimper. Instead, I slowly withdrew into myself and held tight as I felt like I was about to cry from the horror of everything I've become.

Just what's going on? Why am I a monster? Why is this happening to me? Where am I? Wait…that's also a good question, where even am I?

I soon returned my sights to the surrounding area to see if I could pick up any hint for my location. As I noticed earlier, this place appears to be boxed in a room made completely from stone gray brick. In the two corners of the room, I could see firmly sat a pair of sconces that held what looked to be glowing white crystals; and from how bright they shimmered, it was enough to fully light up this place. Pressed against my back was some sort of large marble container, to which its lid lay motionless next to me on the stairs we sat upon. With nothing actually being defining enough, I figured it was time to try and explore. I then found myself wobbling a bit until I could finally keep my balance, and once I turned around, I quickly ducked back down behind the box. After a few seconds, I carefully peeked my head back over.

Across from me was what seemed like a doorway to a tunnel, and in between me and the exit lay a number of bodies just peppered all over the place. Some of them looked human while others had animal characteristics. Some of them wore what looked like leather padded armor while others wore furred covered clothes. The one thing that was common with them all, was all of them seemed lifeless as what looked like burns covered various parts of their bodies.

“H-Hello?" I called out in my new voice.

With no response, I silently snuck my way down the steps to the corpses as my eyes darted in every direction. Again, I called out to the dead to see if at least one of them would actually answer. Still nothing replied as I essentially tipped toed around everyone and the weapons that were on the ground. There were swords of various sizes, axes, and spears littered everywhere, and as I pondered what kind of fight happened, finally my ears picked up on something. It was faint, but a body on one of the far walls began to groan to life despite it sounding like the guy was in pain.

After sprinting over to the person, I knelt down to him and asked if he was all right. He was a human, and the moment he opened his eyes, there was pure shock in them. Suddenly my vision was aggressively thrown to the right as I was forced away. I held my hand up to where I got decked on my left cheek, and looked back at the man.

“D-damn you…! Because of you…you bitch!" He struggled as he grabbed an axe and swung it at me.

Thankfully I scurried back in time for the guy to miss, but it wasn't enough to deter him as it only fueled the hatred that grew in his glare. The wounded human clawed his way up to his feet as he tried striking at me again; hobbling over with each swing. With me crawling back to avoid getting hit, I desperately reached for the nearest weapon I could, and the moment I felt a handle, I tightly shut my eyes and threw my blade at the man; shouting at him to back away. It grew eerily silent as I could feel my heart trying to burst out of my chest. The sound of metal clacking on the stone ground echoed as I then peeked an eye open. The warmth of a crimson liquid started to stream down my hands as I turned upwards. Like little red rivers, blood had poured down the steel of my sword as the very tip was impaled in the guy's chest. Not even a second later, he collapsed to the ground as dead silence had returned. I could still feel my heart trying to explode as I was shivering like a leaf in the wind. I looked at him and then back to the blood that had stained my hands. A few moments after that, I felt something in my throat as I quickly turned away and eventually left a pile of my bile on the ground. I didn't stay any longer as I immediately forced myself up and ran for the exit.

What did I do to deserve this?

This tunnel felt like it was going on forever, but no matter how long it was, I continued to sprint to any possible freedom I could take. With my heart aching and screaming at me, I could feel my tears starting to well up. I want to drop down, I want to curl up and cry, but who would hear my tears? Who will tell me it's all right? I want to be tough, but I can't find the strength. This has become my reality now.

“Someone's coming!"

I skidded to a halt upon hearing that. It sounded like a little girl's voice that was followed by someone shushing her. In front of me now was an opening that led to numerous trees being bathed sunlight, and just outside around the corner is where I heard the voices.

I can't go back since there's no way to escape in that direction, and now that I found the exit, is there a possible ambush waiting for me?

Practically crawling the rest of the way, I slowly poked my head around the corner. I was soon greeted to the sight of a forest that I was unfamiliar with as a sea of trees blocked the distant view. Nearby though was another burn inflicted body on the ground, but it was the thing just beyond him that caught my attention. Twelve of them, there were twelve girls of varying ages restrained to an old towering trunk. The eldest of them looked to be somewhere in her thirties while the youngest was probably ten. Just like the dead bodies I saw, there were a mix of humans and animal people, but the one thing that truly caught my attention of them is the fact that they all wore to what looked like to be torn potato sacks as clothing. In fact, even their bodies looked worn with dirt and bruises.

“Please help us!" The little girl called to me, snapping me back to reality.

Despite the distress I've been dealing with, something deep down told me to free this group. Was it to get answers on the situation? Was it my morals telling me to be a good person? Was it because I don't want to be alone as I am, and this act would appease to their good side so I could stay with them? Regardless of the reason, I started tugging on their bindings until it finally came loose.

“Whoever you are, you have my thanks, but for now, we need to get out of here." A young woman in her twenties stated. She had short blonde hair that barely covered her emerald green eyes. On her left cheek sat imbedded in her skin was a two inch scar that wasn't made recently. Despite the worn out look she had from her sack, she stood firm and straight at me. With that, I soon got an air of battle and determination emanating from her that looked like it was keeping the other girls hushed, but ready to move on her word.

“What's going on here?" I soon inquired.

“As we are now, we're in no position to defend ourselves, we need to get the others out of here before the rest of those brigands return."

“Brigands? You mean the guys at the end of the cave? They're…all dead." Should I have even told them that?

“What?" She sounded shocked by my answer.

I wanted to explain what happened, but I couldn't since I'm unsure as to what's happening at all. The woman started to ponder, and then she approached the body on the ground and unsheathed a knife from it.

“All of you hide. I'll go with the dragonkin to confirm this."

Dragonkin?

The others tried to argue with the blonde, saying that they should just run now or that this could be a trap, but she deflected their concerns.

“If what she said is true, then I have to confirm and report it. That man has committed too many crimes, so I need to see that he's actually dead. If it looks like there's trouble or I don't return, then all of you just run."

I have a feeling that I'm this dragonkin thing that blonde is referring to, especially since she just addressed me as a female as well.

After being ordered to take the one woman back down into the tunnel, I hesitantly obliged. Once we arrived back to the boxed room, she about dropped her blade, only to regain her composure. Soon afterwards she started examining each body until she got up to the one I stabbed. The blonde studied him, then glanced at my hands, to which I tried to hide.

“Boy, you certainly did some work." She announced.

“What…?"

“Don't play coy. You didn't get captured with me and the others, and this is a one way path. The way I'm seeing it, you were already here when Xander and his gang arrived. Only one bandit made it out of the cave before you showed up, and he collapsed dead in front of us. Be it magic or what, I'm not sure how you killed the others, but with a sword in his heart and Xander's blood on your hands, I see no other explanation. You slew them all."

“Is…Is it a bad thing these people are dead?" I cautiously asked. Yes I stabbed one man in defense, but the others were already dead when I woke up here.

“A bad thing? It's a good thing! Xander and his gang were highly dangerous criminals. He raided villages to the ground, killed the men and turned the women into slaves. Shame though it looks like the bastard didn't get to suffer in his last breath like he should have." The young woman informed. “So, just who are you?"

I froze up for a bit. Do I tell her the truth? Do I tell her I'm not from here or even possibly this world? Do I tell her I was a just a guy that got turned into what I am now? If I do, how would she react? Would she call me crazy? Would she believe me and try to help? Would she take me away so I'd get experimented on? I know if this happened to me back home, that would probably be the case. Random guy gets turned into some sort of monster thing…Yeah, I don't see things going over smoothly. Considering I know nothing about this place, it may be best if I keep quiet on my situation until I have a better understanding.

“Telaraya…My name's Telaraya." I know it's a completely fake name, but I'm not sure if I can actually trust this person yet. Hopefully since I'm some sort of dragonkin thing, maybe they use a weird naming sense and I'd be able to get away using this made up name.

“Okay then…Telaraya, let's regroup with the others. We need to get them to back home to safety."

“How do you intend to do that? Do you even know where we need to go?"

“It'll take a bit of walking, but if I'm correct, there's a town south of here. From there, we can get everyone organized and transported back to their families. And since Xander has been eliminated, the actual hard part is done thanks to you."

“You certainly sound like you had something planned about this." I said, “Just who are you?"

“Gerbera Cleary of the Cerulean Knights." She speaks like I'm supposed to know what that is. “Come, let's reunite with the others…Oh, but first you should probably scrounge up some clothes, unless you enjoy walking around in the buff. Though, I wouldn't recommend it."

I gave my odd body a once over and didn't decide to argue. While Gerbera casually took the pants off a corpse to quickly cover her lower half, it took me a bit longer. Most of what I tried was too loose for my new form in some portions, and too tight in others; plus with the addition of now having a tail, I couldn't just grab something I was used to. In all my searching, this made me realize one new thing about my affliction. I used to be about five feet and nine inches in total height, so I easily picked clothes that would have fit, but now with this new body, I'm actually six and a half feet tall.

I have come to hate my current self further as I was told to hurry it up.

With everything said and done here, I came to ask Gerbera how she and the others were captured as we left. From what I was told, the other girls were already slaves to that Xander guy and his group. Gerbera on the other hand was originally tasked with her squad and another group to hunt down Xander. After tracking his exact location, she ambushed him as they saved who they could while killing the bandits. In the chaos, Xander tried escaping while taking some slaves with him to use as a shield. Gerbera and some of her knights pursued after him and eventually managed to corner him. At that point, she doesn't know if she was led into a trap or if Xander got lucky with the area since a sinkhole opened up underneath her. She then said she woke up later already stripped of her gear and restrained with the other slaves. Following that, Xander was looking for a new place to hide, which ended up being the cave that I was in. Gerbera then asked me what I was doing in that place, to which all I could reply with “I don't know." I don't know if she could sense my unease, but the young woman left it at that.

Upon being greeted with natural sunlight again, the two of us were approached by the other girls as Gerbera confirmed the brigands' deaths. The air around them grew heavy and bright with relief as some of them mentioned being finally free again. Before much else could be said, Gerbera then declared that we should begin leaving so that everyone could be reunited with their friends and family. No one opposed her statement. After that, all of us started following the knight for what felt like hours as the sun gradually drifted down below the horizon. Under the twilight sky, we came to stop and set up camp at a nearby river. While some of the girls set up a fire for the night, others took their time to wash up in the river. As a guy, or should I say used to be a guy, I couldn't find the urge to perv on them. Instead, I still took in everything that had happened today as I gazed down at the dry blood on my hands. Following that, I too approached the water to wash the stains off, only to eventually pause as I looked at my reflection in the gentle stream.

I really do look kind of draconic. I'm just some furry dragon thing now, huh?

As my image stared back, I spotted right under my sapphire blue eyes were a deep red line on each cheek. At first I thought it could have been more dried blood, but upon inspecting it further, I learned it was just the coloration of the fur there. After that, I also ended up questioning whether if what I had on the top of my head was just a regular style of hair or a mane now. Regardless of what I considered it, it appeared to be a shade of rose pink as I could tell that these hairs could reach somewhat past my shoulder blades. Lastly, despite not having horns, I had large fuzzy ears that pointed back through my hair that looked like they could have been horns, also while having some tuft of fur pointing out backwards from my jawline, making my face look fluffer then I think it actually was.

Again, why did this have to happen to me? What did I do to be cursed like this? Will I be able to be a human again? Will I be able to go home?

“Is this who I am now?"
