If you work at a Forge you have to make Fire
This is the final episode of the Star Forge. As you could figure it out it will connect the dots with The Outer Rim series. The bound is tight as this is an Origin Story for the other series and if read, it will explain a lot of things.
If you work at a Forge you have to make Fire
I knew the language of the Lions. I understood every single word as I was watching them for five hundred years. Since the accident which made Mira who she is and made me as I am now, the time has stopped inside my body. I will remain a healthy, half robot (because of the accident) human from Earth…
Earth… I sighed as the memories came back. I left my home planet around 1466. I born at Firenze. I was 14 years old when this happened but after the aliens abducted me I spent 15 years on the Falling Moon. Then another 3 years to build the Star Forge. When the time has stopped with me I was 37 years old. This was the time when I freed up Mira, when I screwed up the time and put everyone in danger on this planet. Now I have to save them but I don’t know how. I mean I know how but that damn deadline is coming. I only have three weeks to figure out how to cure the Rotten Blood Syndrome. Then another two months to stop the Time Altering Filed or they will die. The waves of the past, future, present will tear everything apart from the molecular level.
Imagine a room with a desk in the middle. You can control the time in that room with two buttons. Once you make that desk old and worn. Then you make it just a seed of the tree it was made from. It’s simple. Now push the two buttons furiously and at the same time. It’s still fine as the changes will equalize. But now you change the time on a molecular level. Send one molecule to the future, other to the past. It will build time pressure which will erase the object from the time-space continuum. So the desk will never exist. It will cause a paradox which will destroy the experiment itself…etc…etc. Time Physics are hard to understand for a three dimensional creature. But one thing is sure: Don’t Mess With The Time! I did and look where I am.
“I’m so sorry for bothering you Star Smith. May I have a question please?” Jara dragged me back to the present. She became shy and I could see the fear in her eyes every time she was closer than two long jumps. Since they figured out that I made their Goddess they treated me like I could destroy a country with a wink.
“Sure ask me anything.” I waved. She followed my hand with her eye, ready to flee.
“Why don’t you just cure us within a blink?” She asked. I told you!
“I’m not a god.” I sighed. “Yes I created Mira. Yes, I gave her the power. But no, I don’t know exactly how I did and no I don’t have that power.” I told them the thirtieth time.
“I believe you.” It was Helena. She had more sense and she was a logical creature who used to believe to the evidence and substantiated facts. “You just a human. Yes, you are smart and you have good ideas. But you are just a mortal being. You will grow old and weak one day and you will day just like us.” She said and I showed them a painful face. Damn she hit the bull in the eye.
“Not exactly. I will remain this old and in this condition forever… till the end of the time.” I told them carefully. They exchanged a surprised look.
“So you are immortal.” Helena was that again.
“Well. Technically yes. I won’t die a natural death.”
“If I attack you… can I kill you?” That was Jara. “Theoretically of course.” She added suddenly and took a tentative look on Helena.
“No you can’t. My synthetic skin can withstand high kinetic forces. Like your claws and teeth.” I spread my arms like ‘that is the truth’. Everyone could kill me with an energy weapon or well forged swords, knives. But only with teeth and claw… it wasn’t that easy. I won’t tell them that if they bite me on my neck with full force, after the third try they will kill me as my skin will broke. “But I can shoot lightning from my hand. So do not attack me.” I have a practical energy weapon in my prostatic arm. Helena smiled.
“Let me sum up: You are immortal, your skin is impenetrable and you can shoot lightning from your hand.” She look at me meaningful.
“Yes. That is almost true. But I’m just… not ordinary. Nothing else.” I sighed and drove my hair. It was a little exhausting to argue on if I’m a god or not.
“You are the Star Smith.” She whispered like it was a secret. I snorted. I won’t tell them how I earned that name… You know… I made a star not far from the Falling Moon. I was working as a smith, then I made a Star… Star Smith… easy isn’t it?
“Just quit calling me a god! My name is Star Smith… or you can call me Leonardo if you want. That is the name I born with.” I told them. I liked my name but I was living with the Star Smith title for at least six hundred years. So I got used to it. My mother Caterina would be proud that I used it again.
“Leonardo? Is that a family name?” Helena asked me and she was smiling. She just teased me with her questions it was clear.
“No. My family name is… oh damn… what was that?” I was searching my memories. I know it’s shameful but I was 14 years old when I left my family and I did not use since.
“Sir. Your full name was Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci.“ Munnin helped me out.
“Thank you.” I nodded to her. “But call me Star Smith or Leonardo. I’m fine with both.” I offered to Helena
“Ok… Leonardo.” She laughed. I liked her.

Leonardo as I called him after our conversation was a strange creature. When I figured out he made Mira and he confessed he made her by an accident I was sure we will survive. A mind like his created a Goddess so curing my race just a daily brain game nothing more. But I sensed something else behind his intentions. I saw guilty in his eyes like he did something that caused the Rotten Blood Syndrome. Sure I won’t accuse him as he is helping to eliminate the problem. But still… What if he was the one who poisoned our blood? I was wondering but then I just shook my head. Pointless munching on a dried bone. That is the past, I must concentrate on the future.
He told me he will collect blood samples from a hundred Lion then he will analyse them. I was taken aback when he added it will take only an hour or so. Collecting is one thing, but examining the contents of our blood in this amount could take a year.
“Huginn will help. She has high resolution molecular scanners.” He said. I was still uncertain about this creature. It was as big as my head, but rather spherical and flat. Like a strange plat just wider and thicker. It made buzzing noise when it was closer and I did not know how it remained in the air as it had no wings. Oh and it was a she… according to the voice, and she…. had meaningful thoughts. So I saw the Seventy Names of Death and I think that two metal birds were the Machines with Heart. But what could be the Thinking Box of Wonders? I was wondering for a minute. I digress, again.
“I have at least twenty vials just in my house for collecting blood. Another fifty in the Green House. I will mobilize every Healer in the city and everyone else who has the basics. Hundred samples won’t take much longer than a few hours. Then…” I collected everything in my head that I would need but when I looked at him, he was smiling. I knew he had better plans.
“This is nice of you but I will collect the samples within five minutes.” He said and I drop my jaw. Five minutes? It is not possible!
“Ehm… sir.” Huginn made a strange noise.
“I mean… she will collect the samples.” He corrected himself.
“But how? Five minutes?!” I shook my head.
“I can transport a drop of blood from your body within zero point zero five seconds. I will fly around the city within five minutes and collect at least a hundred samples.”
“A hundred drop of blood….” Nodded but I was amazed. If I would have that Healing technology…
“Then I can show everything to the Star Smith. He will then make the decisions.”
“So you helping him like a Novice.” I was nodding again.
“Yes Helena. I’m here to help him.”
“And I’m glad she is around me.” He smiled. I was sure he made her also but still… he made a Machine with Hearth and a Goddess. I should not be surprised from now on.

The Keystone was a huge city, at least ten million Lion lived there. When I stepped inside followed by armoured Lions and my two companion everybody was staring at me. My yellow eyes and metallic hand raised the attention and Huginn, Munnin too. I just followed Helena who took the lead to the Green House while Huginn started to collect the samples.
When we reached the Green House I understood within a blink why this is the name. It was green from top to bottom. Even the doors and the windows were painted and when we stepped inside… everything was green.
“Wow. It’s super green.” I smiled.
“Green is the symbol of the health.” Helena explained. “But I think you knew that already.” She marked for the record but I know in an instant she suspects something about me. About what I have done.
“Yes I knew but I never stood inside a Green House before.” I said but I also watched her reactions from the corner of my eye.
“You can ask for anything. If we can, we will give you or do. I asked for Healers to assist you and of course I will stay also.” She told me while I sat to the ground. She tilted her head.
I made a virtual reality Work Room thanks to my synthetic eyes. It can project images on my optic nerve so I can see things they are not there. Like visions. But now I only see huge displays on the walls and around me.
“Blood samples there.” I told to Huginn and motioned to the left display. There were hundred samples summarized and for only a single wave with my fingers, a detailed chart popped foreground.
“Hmm…” I scratched my chin.
“What is happening?” Helena asked. She could only see me looking something on the bare wall and waving and gesticulating with my hand. Like a lunatic or something.
“It’s hard to explain. I see detailed information about everything around me. Like a vision or something. But I can control it.” I laughed on her surprise. “I’m not insane… well… not more than I use to.”
“If you say so.” She wasn’t convinced. I made a pulling and separating gesture.
“You broke your front left limb at the Radius and Ulna… the two bones in the forearm.” I waved to the right. “You had crack in your fibula also. Strange damages on a Healer if you ask me.” Then I waved again. “Oh and you ate Dorong Fruit and Briandin Salad with spices before we met… I think it was the Sunsat Salad you call it.” I told her and her jaws were on the floor.
“Again and again I’m stunned by your knowledge.”

Two days later I got the news from Huginn and Muninn that we are in serious trouble. I had the cure but the Time Altering Field was closing with exponential value. It means, I have only a week to save them. If the task wouldn’t have been hard enough. I was at the edge of a nervous breakdown as I was thinking harder and harder. But there was only one option.
“You have to go.” I said to Helena.
“Sure… where?” She was willing.
“I mean all of you. And away from this sector. I think the whole IC-434 cloud will suffer the consequences. Time Distortions will appear near this planet.” She wasn’t follow. “You only have a week… but I know a way.” I told her and ran out to the streets, she was after me. “I have to tell my plan to Urok.”
Urok was the Warchief of the Region. He has the power to gather everyone on the planet. Every single Lion I mean. I will deal with the humans later. I have to convince him.
He was a tall and huge maned male Lion. He was strange as one of his eye were not orange than it used to. It was brown.
“What you are talking about is not possible. I can’t call every single Lion. I’m just a Warchief not a King.” He was willing to help but there was obstacles on the road.
“Don’t you understand me? The whole planet will be destroyed! Everyone!” I was yelling to him but he was like a statue made from stone. Cold and calm.
“You are the Star Smith.” He told me with a little scepticism. “But I will tell the Kings to follow me.”
“The time is the essence. We have six days and a little.” I hurried him but it was like to hurry a rock.
***
Urok was better than I believed. The First King, the King of the Kings arrived on the next day and he was followed by twenty million Lions. So if everything is going to go south I will still save thirty million Lions which is a good number if they have to start it over again. First King Agatos was surprised and he was telling me that he knew something will happen. He told me stories about strange phenomenon near his Region. The description was clear; time aberrations. In the forest there were snow like in winter, brown leafs like in fall, flowers like in summer. Four seasons only in one forest at the same time.
“But how can we left the planet?” He asked the question after he told me he will follow my guide to save everyone. There were five other Kings but Urok was sure they won’t make it till the deadline. Sixtyfive million Lions will not reach Keystone and will die.
“I made a ship two hundred years ago. I was about to build a moon with multiple living conditions…”
“You were about to build a moon… But it’s not poss… all right… You are the Star Smith after all… Please continue.” He just shook himself.
“Yes, so there is around 5000000km2 with forests, lakes, rivers, meadows and so on. It’s not fully finished but you can live there till we find a new home. We can call it Life in the Space.”
“Life Space.” Urok said.
“Fine, Life Space. I can bring you there within an hour.” Agatos drop his jaw.
“In the worst case we are talking about Thirty millions of my people. And the animals, belongings…” He started to list but I stopped him.
“It won’t be a problem.”
“You should believe him. He is the Star Smith.” Helena was also there so she noted. She saw the wonders I did since I was near at her.
“All right.” Agatos shook his head. “he is the Star Smith.” He whispered to himself. “I hope at least another ten million will arrive before the final hour.”
***
“I hope they will be fine.” Huginn was worrying. “Fifty million will start the new civilization really fast. They can use the technology from the Life Space and build a city.”
“But they can’t understand the technology we have.” It was Munnin. ”They will destroy themselves.”
“They are wise enough. We should leave them blueprints and educational materials.”
“We are intervene their natural progression. It’s bad.”
“We did before and it was good.”
“Just to save the race.”
“Will you two please stop?” I sighed. I was at the Star Forge as I wanted to prepare a few things before we leave the planet. I thought I will bury the Star Forge in a sub-dimensional pocket so no one will find it. It caused many trouble thought it made many wonders also. But the two has right. I made the problem which almost destroyed a fantastic species and now I have to undo it. I will guide them till they can stand on their own feet.
A white flash distracted me so I turned around and there was her.
“Hello Leonardo.” She told me only with her thoughts. She knew how to make the connection with my neural implants like my other creations.
“Good to see you… Mira… if this is your new name.” I was happy to see her. She was my arch invention; she was the meaning of my life. I forged a Goddess.
“Easier than what you gave me. Don’t you think?” She was smiling as she walked closer to me. That power she brought from the Akashic Field radiated from her which made visible light emission and the feeling I was standing in an electromagnetic field. My skin was like it had worms underneath. I shook myself and as she noticed she made that effect disappearing. In the next second she was just a white furred lioness with strange bluish lines on her skin, all around her body.
“What brought you here?” I thought she did not appear just to have a chit-chat.
“I would like to ask a favour.” She said then there was silence. My eyes went wide as I opened my mouth to answer… but I couldn’t. In every sense she was almighty… but she asked me a favour. After a minute or two I gathered my thoughts and asked:
“What?” She just stepped to me with elegance you can only learn thousand years. Her head was a little higher than mine. If I remember correctly I made her only a little bigger than a Lion… is she using Akashic Steroids? I was wondering.
“Use the Star Forge and create one last thing with it. Forge a map from flames, frost, lightning and storm. A map which will lead my chosen ones to the Star Forge when the need is high and the hope is just a straw in the wind. I will break this map into three pieces and hide them.”
“It’s funny.” I marked and she tilted her head. I surprised a Goddess. “You asked the Star Smith to forge a Star Map in the Star Forge…” I laughed as hard as I almost fell from my feet. She was taken aback and I did not care the warnings from Muninn and Huginn I should stop, I just laughed for another two minutes.
“All right. I will do it.” I said when I could caught my breath.
“Thank you. When you are ready bring one piece back to Earth and I will give you a gift.” She was licking my forehead with love. Despite what happened between us… I was her father.
“What gift?” I asked as I hugged her neck and put my face to her silk like fur.
“To forget everything. I will give your life back on Earth. Back in 1466 as Leonardo da Vinci and you will live a normal life.” As I released her I looked into her eyes. I wasn’t doubt what she said but I was astonished she knew my deepest secret. I lived almost six hundred years as the Star Smith. I liked who I was but deep in my heart I was longing for a normal human life. She just offered me one.
“I will tell you when I’m ready.” I whispered her.
“I will know when you are ready.” She smiled and gave me another lick. Then she vanished.

I was standing next by Urok on the Life Space as he called. My Healing Sac was on my back and everything else in my arm-bag. We were watching the planet we lived on. It was like a huge bluish ball among the stars. It was beautiful.
“Good bye Aldaret.” I sighed and Urok looked at me.
“Don’t worry Helena. We will find our new home. Our… Oharet.” He told me and I almost forgot he could speak our ancient language. Aldaret meant Old Forest and Oharet is New Forest. I liked the name. Then something happened with the planet.
Sighs and voices of surprise, fear and sorrow waved around the corridor we were standing. Aldaret twisted around like it was made from cloth then fires started on the surface. In the next minutes we could see as the fire engulfed the planet and made it into a giant melted fireball. Then little fireballs floated from it and lighted up the moons. It was like Aldaret would have been the birth place of the burning flames from now on.
“Gola’va Ka Tila” I whispered as I fought with my tears. Fifty million Lion died and I did not mention the two hundred million humans. Too many life has lost and we did not know why? As the silent tears were flowing from my eyes the Star Smith, Leonardo stepped next to me.
“I will help you start it over and you will be stronger than ever. You are the children of Mira. Never forget this.” There was something in his hand I could see only for a glimpse. A stone which was like stars moving in it. What did he forge while he was away? Maybe the new way to spread the cure? I hope as he promised he will cure us while we are on the way to Oharet.
“Thank you Star Smith. Where are we going?” I asked and wiped the tears. There will be much to do and I can only stay strong if I concentrate to the future.
“I will bring you to the Outer Rim. It’s safe and you can build a new home. I spotted a planet which will be the perfect place.”
“We will call it Oharet.” I marked and Urok nodded to show he supports this name.
“And we are not Lions.” He said then.
“Then?” I asked in surprise.
“We are Tao’kale Mira.”
The End
