“EEK” Dash screamed as he came running by his best friend, Lyon, at top speed. Lyon looked at him in surprise wondering what was going on.
“Dash?” Lyon said softly and just as he finished blinking Dash was huddled behind him holding his tail. Dash’s rabbit speed usually started most furs but by now Lyon was used to it.
“Help! He’s trying to kill me!” Dash cried.
“Who?” Lyon asked.
“Taurus, the halfback on our team.” Dash said and Lyon looked at him skeptically. Taurus was a very nice guy to everyone. He rarely got mad and always has a smile and an encouraging word for his teammates. The only time he gets aggressive is when they are playing football.
“What are you talking about?” Lyon asked as Dash trembled. Lyon and Dash had become friends for what felt like forever.
When Lyon had been born he was instantly hated. He was born as a rare white lion and species like him were hated by society because a book that was written for cubs said they were evil! Since most species were born with rare white fur they became known as ‘rare white fur species.’
His father used to beat and physically abuse him until his sister was born with normal colored fur. He never really met her because his father had immediately sold him as a slave. When he was sold and tossed in with the other slaves the first fur he met was a white tiger.
Neither of them had names because they weren't viewed as having any special value to be named. His father was always calling him a white disaster because his family was wealthy but they had been in decline over the last few years. He was supposed to be a prominent son to show the union of two wealthy families and help restore their status.
The problem was that having a son born as a rare white fur species was only shame and not restoring them to the wealthy lifestyle they thought they deserved as lions. When he was not being beaten for some arbitrary reason of no real value, he was left to watch television. His favorite show was The Power Fur Rangers and one of the main characters was a lion called Lion. Since he hated being called White Disaster he called himself Lyon.
Since he and the white tiger were both Rare White Fur Species and both had been abandoned by their families, they decided to adopt each other as brothers. They were bought as slaves by a red deer male and a gray wolf male and both were extremely wealthy
Lyon was terrified he’d face the same abuse as before and that his bond with Tyger, his white tiger brother, would be shattered. He’d wake up screaming from night terrors only to discover he had soiled his bed in urine.
Surprisingly, Tyger had told his masters about his past, which he had told Tyger about during the long stretches as they sat in their cages with nothing to do. They were both very kind and never noticed the shame he felt. The deer, who was the CEO of the company called The Antler’s Conglomerate would quietly and calmly change his bed sheets and fetch him new clothes to wear and change the bed sheets. While the wolf would hug him and make soft nurturing noises to get him to relax.
It was not long until they released the two of them as slaves and adopted them as if they were their own flesh and blood sons. It was after that Lyon had met Dash. Tyger was skilled at business like their Father the red deer. The wolf liked to play and have fun so he liked to play sports and games. One day he took Lyon out to the park and they met a rabbit named Petey. Petey could be rambunctious and quite a handful at times but he had a good heart.
He hated his name but was super fast at running so everyone called him Dash. Except his mom, when she was mad, which happened a lot. Lyon never had a friend before unless you count his brother Tyger. Dash had trouble keeping friends because of the trouble he caused. When they met they became instantly friends.
Leggo, Lyon’s dad, became referee and the two of them played football. Something they both seemed to have a knock for. Dash’s mother was just recently divorced for the umpteenth time so Leggo was able to be a role model for both cubs.
When their father decided to send Tyger and Lyon to an expensive private school, so they could get the best education. He refused to separate Dash and Lyon because he saw the bond they formed. He decided to pay for Dash’s tuition and pulled strings with his influence to get Dash accepted. Dash and his mother were grateful and Dash worked extra hard on his grades to be worthy of being there. Of course he still managed to get into trouble from time to time.
“Dash!”Tauros said sternly as he approached them.
“EEKK!” Dash screamed as he hid behind Lyon. He nodded slightly to the white lion but his eyes were focused on Dash.
“Big T, what’s going on?” Lyon asked calmly. The bull was nearly twice the size of Lyon and seemed like a mountain compared to them.
“Hey Big T,” Dash said weakly.
“Did you tell him what you did?” Tauros asked Dash.
“I… was just about to,” Dash started and cleared his throat. “So we were down on the field and I was flirting with the cheerleaders.” Dash Explained.
“More like getting rejected,” Lyon muttered under his breath. Dash may be a nice guy and all but how his favorite hip hop artists talked and treated women was how he thought he should treat them. Which led to many of them rejecting him. Except for Sally, she beat the color off his fur for what he had said.
“So I was walking by the bleachers and I saw that someone had dropped a package of Dare Coffee Cakes. So figuring it was my lucky day I picked it up and ate it. Then Big T came over and started yelling at me.”
“I bought that for my girlfriend and she was looking forward to it. Yeah, it’s my fault I dropped it but you should have asked who it belonged to before you ate it.” Tauros said and Dash swallowed hard.
“I have to agree with Tauros.” Lyon said disappointed.
“If you were so hungry I would have helped you get something but that was for my girlfriend.” Tauros said.
“Look man, I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking. As soon as I get a couple of bucks I’ll buy you one as a replacement.” Dash said. He stepped out from behind Lyon as he tried pleading with Tauros. Lyon reached into his pocket and took out a couple of dollars and tossed them unknowingly at Dash’s feet. Tauros saw all this but remained silent.
“Dash,” Lyon muttered and when he looked at Lyon; Lyon was pointing down. “You picked up some hitchhikers.” Dash looked at his feet and a big smile crossed his face as he picked up the money.
“I must have the luckiest rabbit feet alive!” Dash exclaimed and he sat on the ground and kissed his feet. “Be right back!” Dash said as he ran off towards the vending machines on the other side of the campus. It would normally be quite a walk but with his speed he could be there in ten seconds.
“You shouldn't always be bailing him out. He’ll never learn.” Taurus said.
“I know, but what good is having money if you can’t help your friends out. Besides, his family is very poor with all the mouths they have to feed.” Lyon said and Tauus snorted through his nose.
Dash ran up to the vending machine and bought a Dare Coffee Cake. He took out a little notebook and inside there were numbers and figures all over it. He added plus two to the final total and added up the sum.
“Someday, buddy, I swear I’ll pay you back every cent I owe. You always look out for me and when I can, I swear by my own name I’ll pay you back.” Dash said to himself and he tried to not become emotional. He wiped his eyes and ran back to them.
“Here you go Big T, no hard feeling eh?” Dash asked. Taurus looked at Dash then at Lyon. He smiled and patted Dash on his head, which made Dash feel like a car fell on him.
“No hard feelings but just don’t ever do it again.” Taurus said and he walked off. Both Lyon and Dash let out a huge sigh of relief.
“So, Wanna hang out tonight?” Dash asked.
