Other VI
/Somnolent/
A deep crooning resonated in his ears and white noise flared Yadin awake, and his body jolted defensively as if he'd just experienced a falling dream.
His dreams would not be safe again. Yadin's thoughts stuttered in resignation. His dreams were no longer safe.
The evening air had settled in, cold and cruel on the car windshield and Jirot's boiling soul. He rubbed his hands together as he stared at the new haunt. A decrepit building, an old mansion perhaps, that creaked and suffered the same as he did in the freezing night air. If he lingered any longer he was certain he'd end up an ornament in the courtyard.
Better now than never. He grabbed his bag, battery packs, tripods, and cameras, and strapped them over his shoulders with a grunt. He left the gathered warmth of his car to head for the building, letting the alarm beep behind him, an echo-less note in the isolated freeze.
Jirot kept a brisk pace to the door, his breathing steady puffs of air, and eased into the building through the groaning, rusted hinges of the heavy front door. He then set to work making a base camp of supplies and equipment in the circular entryway. The entrance was part of living room as well, he observed, and the high ceilings were webbed and dusty gray, lost memories of past squalor. Aged plastic tarps were laid over a couch set and end tables, and the light material swayed in the breeze of his movements. Paintings faded and torn, lined the walls of the hall leading up a set of stairs in front of him, and towards the kitchen area of the mansion, a decaying rug threaded its way around the hall corners.
Jirot's computer booted as he wrapped a tarp around a lamp to contain more heat in the area, and he filled his portable camera with batteries. He rose to his feet and looped the strap over his neck, steadied his thoughts, and let his gaze drift along the room interior until his instinct settled on which path to take first.
He pulled a filtered mask from his coat pocket, and tightened the strap behind his head. A sudden whisper of breath over his shoulder stopped him in his tracks. Jirot turned quickly, camera upraised, and was greeted by a familiar shadow.
“Eulythies." He sighed in relief. The darkness in front of him swayed as it listened to his voice. “It's been an age since I've seen you." He wondered if the shadows intentionally fostered human dependence on them.
The shadow billowed in acknowledgment, and moved toward him. Jirot lowered his camera as the darkness wrapped around him. A dark blanket of warmth warded him against the cold as Eulythies sunk into his body, flecks of shadows wrapping about them as the shade dissipated from sight. Jirot chuckled.
“Thanks." Jirot said in quiet gratuity, and headed for the staircase, flecks of black in his footprints as he went.
The old stairs creaked and groaned under his weight, but remained sturdy beneath his added weight. The architect had an eye for quality, Jirot noted as he eyed the detail etched into the aged wood. It was clear they'd been constructed with a perfectionist's touch, even while cloaked in ages of dust.
Jirot stopped for a moment and checked the presumed floor plan saved on his phone. It appeared to be accurate enough for safe exploration of the second story. He remained wary of his steps across the way and as he passed by the darkened doorways in the upper hall. He not interested in running into squatters, and more interested in unveiling things that would tear apart the fabric of reality. If only his shadow partner could be enough proof that something was there, something was always there, but not everyone could see them. Digital photos and even the photos he developed never provided results that were satisfactory; the shades nearly always appeared as liquefied smudges that warped their surroundings, or not at all.
His phone lit up in his pocket and vibrated, jarring him from his focus, and he pulled it out with a sigh. There was a message with a video attachment available, and as he observed the screen, he acknowledged that there was no signal. Jirot's finger hovered above the notification. There was no sender, only a string of numbers and letters in the subject and body. He wondered if he was about to accept a ghost virus.
He risked it and tapped the notification, the video appeared completely dark, at least for the first few seconds. Then the blackness moved and Yadin was visible, straining against black tendrils, and pleasured by the shadows surrounding him. The volume was low, but in the empty halls of the old house, it hardly mattered. Yadin's gasps nullified silence.
Jirot shut off the video and closed the app, his fist clenched in frustration. Frustration mostly aimed at himself for involving someone he considered merely an innocent bystander to the madness he was involved in.
It was his fault, and he knew it.
Eulythies' wrapped shadows around his clenched fist in a soothing manner. Jirot sighed deeply as they stroked across his knuckles. He had to finish his work here first after all. He had to think without distraction about how to get Yadin out of this mess, and while he had procured Yadin's phone number, he still had no idea where he lived.
He continued his search down the old halls of the house, his camera raised with its movement-ready flash blinking red and ominous inside the derelict bedrooms and family rooms. His heart thudded in his chest, excitement bubbling for what the photos may contain as he neared the end of his route. He kept a single camera on his shoulder strap running behind his back, and turned to return to his base at the front of the mansion. He had wanted to visit the old gardens, but the longer he was here the more distracted he became by Yadin's fate. He would come back at another time to immerse himself in his photography and in the history still lingering in the old structure.
The path on the blueprint was incorrect at a turn on his way back to the living area he noticed. That, or Eulythies was being silently polite about him suddenly loosing his sense of direction. His shadow partner had left an order of strings along paths they'd already taken to prevent this from happening. He brushed it off and backtracked, continuing more carefully this time.
Jirot huffed as they reached the front room again at last, his breath puffing in small clouds again. He reached up to turn off his shoulder camera and it was then his eye caught sight of a door ajar in front of him. It looked like an old storage closet, nestled carefully beside the staircase, and this one did not have Eulythies' strings attached to it.
He walked over to it warily and ran his hand along the door frame. Jirot pondered it for a moment, wondering if his eyes were more used to the dark by now, and that's how it had escaped his noticed. The wallpaper surrounding the door seamed almost indistinguishably with the wall and doorway itself.
His shadow partner wasn't emotive, staying out of sight, and what Jirot surmised, was watching and waiting on him to make a move. He swallowed and nudged his way through the door.
It eased open without a sound. Already his instincts were blaring alarms of the otherworldly.
Jirot walked in, flashlight raised, and surveyed the room. Empty of all but shadows cast by himself and few pieces of roughly discarded furniture. He stepped farther inside, still unnerved, and moved around the breadth of the room until he came to a dark pool of liquid in front of a high backed chair. It glinted in the light, and almost looked like spilled ink. The chair seemed to be fused with the floor, and appeared rather plain in design.
Jirot dropped to one knee to better inspect the chair, and noted there were intricate etchings within the wood patterns, swirling and moving text, fizzling with the noise in the darkness. He refused to put anything in the black puddle in front of him, and used a piece of broken wood to test the substance's viscosity. It feathered from the puddle when he pulled the chunk of wood back, and he stared at the glistening black spot on the wood suspiciously. He knew he may regret his next action, yet he still hesitantly brushed his fingers across the blackness stuck immovably like glue. His fingertips came off dry, then the puddle rippled and stirred to life.
Jirot jumped backwards and his flashlight clattered to the floor, and rolled away, facing the wall uselessly when it stopped. As tendrils swirled and whipped out of the black tar, he slipped and cursed as he grappled for escape, but the shadows didn't miss their chance. They wound around his ankles, and arms before he could make it to the door, and Jirot looked back desperately at his only exit as the shadows slammed the door in front of his eyes. He yelled out in anger and they dragged him towards the puddle and chair, grasping his wrists tightly and jerking him around. He scuffed his heels into the floor, desperately fighting back against the wrenching grasp of the shadowy limbs.
The plain chair was growing more ominous as he was dragged towards it, and his heart was in his throat as it began to sink into the growing puddle, the text on it spreading outwards onto the floors and walls, vanishing into the unlimited black ceiling above him, as it warped and scrolled all over the rest of the room.
Jirot cursed again loudly as a large shadow rose above him, illuminated minutely by his dropped flashlight. He panted in fear and in anger as the tendrils toyed with him in their monstrous grips. Their strength increased and they yanked him even closer to the pool of writhing black ink, where even more shadow tendrils were now coiling out of it, and trained on the human drawing nearer and nearer to them. They unfurled at him and sped forward in a blink, wrapping and clutching around his arms, and torso to prevent his movements.
His struggles were in vain, and he knew he was becoming prey for this creature's whims once again. The black tendrils were seeping into his body under his clothes, and his arousal was stirring to life, as he groaned in waning irritation.
The tendrils wound down his body, prodding and stroking, they unlatched his belt with ease, pressed into his thighs and eased his legs apart. He jerked again in a last ditch attempt to get the creature off his body, but they only tightened their hold, and they bent his knees, binding them open as a black appendage whorled together above him, and lulled slowly from the darkness, outstretching towards Jirot's still resistant body, and while phasing in and out in the dim light, Jirot could just make out clawed digits at the end of the extending darkness.
The shadow limb did not have the toying patience of the tendrils, and it pulled his pants and briefs down in an instant. Jirot tried to howl desperately but the shadows coiled around his neck, tightening only when he tried to speak. The thick limb encircled his cock, and rhythmically began stroking his cock, as a form of creature's head slowly leered over his face. He whispered Eulythies' name in wanton despair when the shadow rubbed circles over the head of his dick, jolts of pleasure erupting in his nerves, and the shade captured his mouth in response.
The tendrils stretched around Jirot's trembling waist and reached to his buttocks, working inside his hole with a sudden gentleness. He moaned as they reached his prostate, and then they were pulled from him and replaced by the shadow's hardened tendrils, lubricated with arousal and cold from the atmosphere around them. They eased into his ass, one ribbed inch at a time, and began a thrusting pace in tune with his pleasure, encouraged by each strangled sound that escaped between the human's parted lips.
Jirot rolled his hips against the creature, and another stimulated gasp of Eulythies' name spurred the beast on. Jirot felt the air from the creature's heaving breaths above him, until it caught his mouth in another kiss, the tendrils urging his jaws apart as the shadow's tongue could delved between his lips. The tendrils around his neck loosened, and the creature pumping it's tendril-united member inside of his body quickened, the peak of Jirot's orgasm was nearing, and he felt the throbbing of the shadow's urgency.
The tendrils slackened in their grip at last, but Jirot was too engrossed in the timing of the monster's thrusts, too focused on the rocking of his hips, too indulged with the shadow's pulsing member inside him, the beast's chilled breaths gruff and heavy against his shoulder. He reached around the creature's body, clutching at the thicker parts of the black mist, precum dripping onto his stomach. The shadow's form was becoming more and more human-like above him.
Jirot's teeth clenched as he held off, feeling his body heat dispersing between them both. The imminence of the shadow was becoming more clear with it's now erratic rhythm. Jirot clamped his legs around the beast's hips, and he gasped sharply as a part of the shade's body wrapped his cock, pumping deftly around it rapidly and suckling on the head. Before he could brace for the sudden onslaught of sensations, his orgasm flooded out of him in spurts, and the shadow pulsed and trembled with suction at the head of his cock, encouraging and swallowing his load in what felt like an entire drainage of his sac.
Jirot's body was tense and paralyzed, and he was emitting a choked sound with the last pulses from his cock as the shadow rode out the final strokes of it's own heat, dark tendrils swelling and pulsating as its ichor emptied in thick strands inside Jirot's body.
The tendrils retracted in a wet sound, stroking his sore ass before retreating entirely, and Jirot heaved with a sigh of release, the tendrils easing from him as he let himself collapsing in both satisfaction and the returning dregs of anxiety. He dwelt on the positive thoughts before they escaped him completely, and slowly regained his bearings.
“There has to be better ways to ask me for a lay.“ Jirot chuckled a little as the shade returned to it's true form. Eulythies seemed to sheepishly warp at the criticism, and in the silence Jirot sighed again, looking down at his and the shadow's mess all over him. The shade made use of its command of the darkness, and a multitude of small shadows that Jirot had learned to call Uncello darted in and out within the darkness of their bodies, acting as an afterglow cleaning crew.
“Yes, I was surprised, but you didn't change the shape of your-" Jirot continued, then cut himself short with a bemused shake of his head. Eulythies seemed amused as well, and set to work fixing Jirot's garments to their appropriate state, tracing softly over the human's body in appreciation.
Jirot sat up wearily as the creature's form faded in and out before his eyes in the dim light. He supposed it was a form of relaxing for the being in the aftermath of their sex. Though he could still not quite make out a face, he could tell that Eulythies was gazing upon him with the selfsame state of emotions. His eyes narrowed as he rose carefully to his feet, lingering tendrils around him keeping him steady on his feet. Eulythies stayed knelt in front of him, and Jirot's expression slowly clouded.
“I need to find Yadin." He said aloud, and the shadow before him gave no indication of disagreement.
Jirot headed to the door and Eulythies' shadow form phased by and opened it for him. Jirot huffed in irritation at the jesting play of chivalry and walked back to his supply site. The tarp had had a thin layer of ice on the outside from the drop in room temperature, regardless of his attempt to keep everything warm, There was no issues with the rest of his gear fortunately.
He gathered the equipment back together for his trek back to his car, and pulled his backpack back on, the tarp balled under his arm. He shut the mansion door behind him and hurried back to the fogged up vehicle, with increased motivation due to the frost that was settling in. He tossed the tarp in the back seat, and placed his equipment bag in the passenger seat, and turned the key in the ignition quickly, for heat and for defrost before going around the vehicle and into the driver's side.
He rubbed his hands together and sighed again, his thoughts whirling as he considered Yadin's state of mind. The sooner Yadin could be found, the better. The mere presence of any of these creatures could drive one mad with terror and mindless gratification. The latter mostly.
He wondered if it was luck that the creatures that had attached to him and were so entranced by him thus far, and had spared him from the mindless puppetry of their desire somewhat. Jirot swallowed his anxiety as best he could and settled into the driver's seat.
All he had was a video source to go on. Jirot mused.
Considering how these creatures liked to play, he may be able to pull location information from the video metadata. Whatever wavelengths they fed off of seemed strangely attuned with most of humanity's modernized electronics. He gripped the steering wheel and stared at the frozen, gravel paths in front of him. Shifting the car into drive he left the mansion behind, the tires squelched on slush ice and dead leaves until he passed the iron gate and veered off onto the unkempt pavement of the hidden roadway.
“Yes." He muttered as the radio crackled with illegible speech. “I could work with that.“
