Kobold Kaos
Here's the June story from my Patreon! I failed to upload a preview for this story because, well, I couldn't figure out what snippet of it would make a good preview haha.
This is a story that was inspired by a character of mine who has gone through some changes over time, starting as basically me but anthro dragon, then becoming a kobold, then an anthro snake, then a kobold again... Somewhere along the way the gender of the character started shifting around, so now I just think of them as nonbinary; as genderfluid. So for one of my writing projects on Patreon I decided to focus on them, and flesh their character out. Also, exploring some aptophilia thoughts.
Contains: Human gender dysphoria, Human body dismorphia, Ancient unknowable beings, reality fuckery, malleable transformation, coils, gel snake, koboldification.
As mentioned before this has been available for view for the last month for patrons pledging $1 or more to my Patreon. If you'd rather not pledge a recurring amount on my Patreon and still want to support me, consider commissioning me, or perhaps you can get me a Ko-Fi.
Janus hated showering. The human usually left their phone set up next to the curtain on the far side, blaring a podcast over the water to keep the dark thoughts at bay, but foolishly they had forgotten to keep their phone charged and it died about halfway into the shower.
As such, they were now standing, staring down as water struck the center of their chest. The flow made their body hair turn into rivulets and stand out all the darker against their pale skin. Janus hated their body hair, but most techniques to remove it were either constant vigilance or painful and expensive. They saw the faded bands of stretch marks flanking their navel, which had been bright purple freshman year of college. The way the adipose settled on their body was unmistakably gendered, especially since a beltline for male cut jeans had determined the end of their belly and start of their hips even when naked.
Janus was genderfluid, but even when feeling fully masc hated their body.
They wondered how long they'd just been standing there, soaking in self-loathing and hot water. Bending down enough for their hair to get nice and soaked by the showerhead, they grasped a container of conditioner and stood back upright. With one thumb the human popped the cap open, before upending the bottle, shaking it to get the non-Newtonian substance to the nozzle. A small splurt came out from the pressure due to gravity, but not nearly enough conditioner. They squeezed and wiggled the bottle so that the small dash on their palm was joined by a fairly random squiggle.
Janus put the bottle away, then clapped their hands together and uttered a single onomatopoeia over the rush of water. "Goosh."
It was just a little thing their mind thought to do, for their own amusement, a distraction probably. They began rubbing their hands together to coat both in conditioner, before starting to run it through their hair. They could feel the drain starting to back up and sighed, guessing that some of their hair had blocked it. The gathering water crept up over their feet as they worked on getting the conditioner all through their thick head of hair.
In amongst the flow of water, a hiss became apparent.
Janus started to bend forward to dig the hair off the drain with a finger, only to find something soft, pliable, and smooth in the way. The human spent a moment curiously prodding and stroking over it, trying to find the drain, before realizing that nothing like that should be in the shower. Standing up straight they shoved their hands in the showerhead's torrent to clean them of conditioner, before placing their face in the stream of water. Wiping their eyes free of excess water, they looked down and saw what appeared to be an enormous snake's tail made from water, looped loosely around their feet and the backup of water was due to a ring of python girth blocking the way to the drain.
Slowly, the human turned around.
"Oh, isn't this awkward." The serpent spoke, its head raised high over Janus' own. "You weren't trying to summon me at all."
It took a long time for the drenched human to process this. "S-summon?"
"I knew you could speak, my dear." The entity crooned affectionately. With every moment it seemed like the snake's body was taking up more and more of the shower space, looping coils surrounding the hapless summoner. The serpent's body was first growing iridescent, before starting to properly gain colors, no longer like formed water, but still as smooth and slick. Swirls of pastel spread as the base transparency turned translucent, then to a milky white. "You see, it was a one in a trillion chance. You drew my sigil on your hand, destroyed it, and spoke my name." As it spoke, the serpent's coils started to trail and brush up against the human's legs, having run out of room not occupied by their personal bubble.
Janus looked bewildered, quivering at the smooth, wet contact, and was now starting to wonder when they had begun this dream. "Goosh?"
"I believe in Latin characters it would be G E U S E, but your pronunciation was close enough to wake me up. It's been ages since I had anyone to summon me." By now, Geuse's body was filling up the shower space so much that it was impossible for it not to be pressed against the human's body, no longer light, almost accidental brushes. Now full thick loops of multicolored serpent smoothly slid along the human's thighs and up over their hip.
If Janus could think clearly they might realize that there was no way that this enormous serpent could even fit in the space of the shower. "W-what happens when you are summoned?" They shifted awkwardly, a blush coming to their cheeks and ears as that just prompted the coils to close in further, the pliable slickness not just up against the chubby mortal, but conforming for maximum contact. Each inch that travelled along Janus' skin was just flustering them further, as body pillow sized lengths of python were keeping their legs spread with their presence in between.
"I reshape." The snake brought its glossy snout close to the human's nose. "I see in you that you are distressed by your mortal form. I'm going to help you." Slowly the tip of the seemingly endless tail traced along the lower back of the human to just above the buttocks, pressing to an indentation right above the cleft.
Up until this point the human had been able to keep their arms free, but at the odd sensation at that point at the tip of their spine hidden under adipose and muscle fiber, they shuddered and found themselves falling forward into the support of loop after loop of squidgy, pliable coils. "But-"
Geuse easily sequestered their arms away from their body, squeezing both in their own loops of winding gel-serpent. At the same time their tail seemed to press past the skin, into their flesh, phasing right through with a not unpleasant tingle. "Shush, my child. I'm going to take care of everything for you." The tail tip curled and pulled.
Janus cried out in surprise, feeling the yank almost like they were a slinky being extended, and a posable straw straightened back to its out of package shape at the same time. Their body immediately was fully submerged in Guese's squidgy embrace from the motion, taking away any sight the human had. The soft squirking and constant flow of water from the shower effectively took away their hearing by flooding it with a white noise. All they had left was touch, and they had an overabundance of it.
A powerful heat was radiating off their back, as their head was dragged down into the morass of coils. The world was nothing but those looping coils squeezing and groping, pressing with tingling touches, gently tugging like the human was a clay figure to be remade by a skilled sculptor. Even their hair was getting wrapped and spread into two, with a length of tail sliding across the center of their head.
The burning sensation from their back had spread down to a new location that their mind couldn't quite map properly. It was like where Geuse had pressed through there, but more so. There was too much tactile information of coils squeezing and pulling to fit in that little spot at the small of their back. Soon, Janus could no longer feel the follicles of body hair getting pushed this way and that by movements, the bareness intensifying every lingering slide and grind. They squirmed in the grip of the entity, and couldn't help but moan, overwhelmed.
Meanwhile, Geuse sighed and rested its head atop the loop of its body that the human's head had been dragged down into. "My precious summoner. You won't have to worry about anything. Wealth is yours. You'll be able to visit your friends whenever you like, no matter where on the globe they are. You have no need to break yourself for a master who just barely keeps you alive, when I can give you everything, just for you finally being... you." The coils shifted again, and pressed Janus to the surface, but they were unrecognizable.
Janus groaned weakly, overstimulated, as their head was eased under the still flowing showerhead. Their snout squiggled for a moment, before their nostrils flared in a sigh. They twisted to look towards the snake's head, finding that it seemed larger than before, but the serpent growing was nothing new. Then they crossed their eyes at realizing the spot where their brain usually just ignored a human nose had something far larger taking up space.
"My dear, would you like a mirror?" The shower's curtains were pulled back, revealing that Geuse' coils were filling the whole bathroom. A length of tail pressed against the mirror vertically, the rest of its attached loop pressing down on it to make the coil's belly spread with the pressure, before dragging across it with the sound of a squeegee.
As the fog was cleared from the looking glass, Janus let out a soft gasp. Where once they'd seen their loathsome human appearance, there was a cute reptilian head. The only thing they had in common with their old self was the color of their eyes, a steel blue, but they appeared larger, or their head was smaller. Their ears were large and dish-like, reminding them of a kangaroo, and just above and in front of them a pair of dark brown horns pressed out and back, swept in an elegant curve. Their jaw slack from surprise also gave them a good look of their new teeth, and a glimpse of the fairly snake-like anatomy of their lower jaw, along with the vibrant purple color of the flesh inside.
Undulating, Geuse drew Janus up into view more and more, revealing slender shoulders and dainty, thin arms. A smooth chest with no nipples, moobs or boobs, just the faint contour of the muscles attached to arm movement was revealed next. Instead of the heavy adipose laden midsection they were familiar with there was a smooth, softly curved waistline, not quite flat with a sunken navel, where there was a hint of the purple that lined their mouth inside. With more of their body exposed, they found that while they had a darker tan scale pattern along their arms and sides, the scales on their throat and belly were lighter, almost cream colored.
As the serpent continued to raise their body upward, Janus braced for a bout of dysphoria for when their hips and groin would surface. However, instead of any external genitalia, there was simply a snugly closed slit amongst the scales, hard to see unless specifically looking for it. Staring at that curiously distracted them for a few moments before they realized their hips were still the size from when they were human, it was just the rest of their body had shrunk in proportion to itself and slimmed down. This resulted in a broad pelvis, and their thighs were thick, but not malformed.
And as the serpent pressed their legs into full view, Janus realized that there was still quite a bit of their body still wrapped in those undulating coils. Whatever it was that supported them from within the pale, glistening coils was sturdy enough that their new foot claws dangled above the mass of coils filling the room, as they planted their hand claws against the ceiling. They looked down and back, and past the broad curve of their new hips, there was a tail. It was at least as thick as either of their thighs, and disappeared down into the constant loops. "W-what... what am I?"
"I believe the word in the modern parlance is Kobold. The word has gone through many meanings over the years, but I plucked this image from your mind. It is a most lovely form for you," Geuse sing-songed tenderly. The serpent started to pull Janus back down into the coil's embrace, looping a thick, squidgy mass across the newly changed kobold's waist and giving an affectionate squeeze.
This process turned Janus in such a way that they saw the bathroom door was open, and the hallway seemed just as full of coiling gel. This revelation sent a blush across the kobold's facial scales and their ears folded back on their own. "W-wow... there is... uh... a lot of you..."
"Oh, don't mind that, sweetie." Geuse crooned and casually added another loop around the kobold's hips and thighs. "I'm just checking around the house. Can't miss a thing." The giant snake winked with a nictitating membrane, while adding another loop at their knees, and propping up Janus' head and shoulders with a squidgy curve from beneath.
Janus pressed on the heavy tube of serpent at their waist bashfully, as if trying to scoot up and out of a sleeping bag. Their eyes widened as their claws simply sank into the multicolored surface, deforming the pattern as it oozed up over the backs of their hands. Pulling back was easy enough, revealing an unscathed, glossy surface, but each attempt to make the gelatinous snake move resulted in a similar distortion that just displaced and let the kobold bury their hand claws in.
"I'm very pliable." The serpent whispered teasingly, its muzzle suddenly right next to one ear. "But I can firm up if you like." As Geuse spoke, the give against the kobold lessened, and their pressing paws felt more like pushing on dense foam rubber beneath the smooth surface, and then harder still when the coils flexed. The snake's head slid along over Janus' chest and arms, carrying with it a final coil to get all but the changed being's head and feet wrapped up.
Janus splayed their toes and squirmed against the weight and the pressure, but it just pressed them back into an even, straight line head to toe. Distantly they heard the bathroom door close again.
"As much as it's lovely to be corporeal and embrace a mortal once again, it does take a lot out of me. I'll be sure to check in on you, and come when you call." Geuse's form was softening even further, causing Janus to start to sink in out of sight from their weight rather than the purposeful contractions of before.
The kobold blushed softly, writhing to try to stay at the surface of the mass of softening body, already back to its previous pliability that allowed motion without progress, and softening further still. "W-wait, I don't even remember what your sigil looked like!"
Hissing with amusement, Geuse traced a shape on the curvy reptilian's hip with the tip of its tail, without Janus ever feeling the loop covering that spot up leave. "When it's time for you to call on me, you'll remember, and I'll come." The pliable form had fully enveloped Janus in softness, which was less softening and more melting by this point.
With the realization that the mass around them was pressing at their nostrils, trying to fill every crevice, Janus again tried to get back to open air. For a few more moments it seemed futile, but then abruptly the surface rushed down to meet them. With a wet splattering sound, the white and pastel serpent had turned fully to a heavy slime, filling the bathtub. The ooze rapidly drained away, getting less viscous by the moment, clearer. And by the time Janus had recovered, there was no sign there had even been such an entity in their bathroom, except...
They stared at their smooth scales, and then realized a majority of their body was now that tail that had been teased. It took up the entire bottom of the tub in a loose coil, and when Janus thought about standing up, it reared up like a snake, pressing their whole rest of their body up and over the porcelain onto their feet. The new kobold stared. That motion had just came so naturally, how did they do that?
Janus realized that the shower was still running, and turned to reach out for it, before pausing, and dropping their arm. They glanced down at how much of their new tail was still in the tub, and the tip rose up and bapped the knob until the water turned off. The kobold grinned broadly, and walked over to the cabinet to grab a towel. The terry cloth felt different against scales. The keratin plating afforded a dulling effect on some finer detail, but the softness translated. It was fairly easy drying off their shorter form with the towel. However, their new tail was a greater obstacle. They pondered, before wrapping the towel up under the base of their tail, and with a clumsy grab the tip of their tail hooked and grasped both ends.
Slowly, and a bit shakily, the kobold drew the towel back along the tail's length, wiping the scales down to moist at the very least, until the tip was unable to pull anymore. Peering back, Janus just rubbed the tip into the towel as it fell loose, before scooping it up in a bundle. They stepped out into the hall, feeling their heavy tail slide on the tiles of the bathroom, and pondered if they had enough leverage to walk with it lifted off the floor.
At that thought, the thick tail just flexed and rose up to their waist level. "Woah..." The kobold expected to be pulled backwards by the unbalance of it all, but it was as though the rear appendage was floating, neutrally buoyant. They walked down the hall towards their laundry room, and glanced back. Their tail was undulating in a serpentine manner, almost slithering through the air, with the bundled towel in a loop at the end.
With a couple more steps not looking where they were going, Janus realized that that oscillation was following the sway of their new gait, hips rocking on their own unless they focused on stopping it. The kobold ran out of hallway experimenting with that, bumping into a mirror at the end of it. "Oof." To their left was the laundry room. They sighed, reaching back with one hand claw to grasp the towel from their tail. The new reptilian tossed it up onto the washing machine as their tail unfurled away, back into its buoyant position. They doubled back down the hall, watching their tail bunch up to get back behind their hips as they headed towards their room.
Janus was about to start getting dressed when they blanched. None of their clothes would fit now! They walked over to the bed, where they'd placed the underwear they'd put on when they got out of the shower, and stared. It was the same fabric, the same pattern, but the cut was different. There was a loop of elastic at the back as well, and the brand name had changed into some sigils they didn't recognize.
Staring at it, they picked up the garment, and then attempted to put it on. As they did so, the tip of their tail slipped itself through that ring of elastic, and Janus stared. Was that what it was for? How did they know to do that? The length of tail slid itself right on through while Janus was lost in thought, until the distance to their hips was the same on leg and tail. They finished pulling up the boxer briefs, and felt them snug up on their curvy hips the same as they had on their human body, before reaching back and tugging the ring up snug with the base of their tail on top.
"I suppose that keeps them from getting pushed down by that monster." Janus thought aloud, before pulling their closet open. Instead of the big, chubby human sized tee shirts they were expecting, all of their clothes had been changed to match their new frame. The kobold stared, and grabbed one of their favorite shirts, faded graphic and tattering seams from so much wear, but it was shaped to their new, smaller torso. They carefully slid it over their horns and down over their body, feeling over the soft fabric as it settled into place.
A thought struck them. If their clothes had changed, what else had Geuse messed around with?
They turned on their ankles and dashed toward the hall. This was a bad idea, as it just resulted in their legs getting caught on their tail and they plummeted forward. A moment later, they found themselves suspended just off the ground, with a loop of tail underneath their face. They twisted and looked to see that their whole weight was dangling like a plank at one end of the appendage, having kept them from hitting the hallway floor or the wall on the other side.
Inquisitively, they flexed, and were able to rise a bit higher up and rotated their body back upright, before setting themselves back onto their feet. "This thing is gonna take getting used to." It was alternatingly extremely helpful and in the way and Janus wasn't sure what to think of that. After a moment, they remembered what they'd swiveled so fast for, and hurried out of the hall to their kitchen, specifically the cabinet by the door out of the house. It was eye level with their human body so of course it was too high to look into easily, until they purposefully laid a loop of tail on the floor around their feet and pushed themselves up to their former height, legs dangling. It was hardly much more effort than standing, all things considered. With a claw, they scooped up their wallet and opened it up.
There, in the clear sleeve, was Janus' drivers' license. They'd expected to see the human picture, 'M' for 'Misgendered' and their deadname, having not had the energy to go through all the hoops for a name change. Instead, there was a picture of the kobold, in the same kind of awkward DMV headshot as the human had been. Next to Sex was 'N', and written at the top was 'Janus Moon'.
Janus stared at their ID, then at their claws, and tried to walk over to the kitchen counter. Instead their legs wiggled uselessly in midair. A sigh and they dropped down to their feet again. Was this just a cosmetic change to their license or had it changed the files at the DMV? Was everything in the world the same except they'd always been this mythic creature? How do people react to seeing a Kobold in a supermarket?
At the thought of food shopping, their stomach let out an empty growl. Janus sighed. "Okay... first, breakfast."
