Centered deep in the middle of the city, with warded red stone walls, the military base existence created the beating heart of Avonmori, it created life as well as protected it, and served to unite the broken world giving people hope and purposes once again. Which is why it wasn't only a military base, it was also a sports arena, a colosseum used to entertain the citizens with mock battles, magical bouts and dragon jousts, as well as common earth sports like soccer, football and baseball. The Colosseum was very rarely ever used for public events, so though the stadium could easily fit a hundred thousand screaming fans, it was mainly used for televised games because every US state wanted to bring back their own teams, and international ambassadors wanted to return some semblance of life to their own citizens by reviving there national soccer or hockey teams. This included the return of the Olympics, but not in the same way, the summer Olympics weren't a mere expression of national pride and the strength of it's citizens, it had turned into an arena for war games, to show that it's citizens were the best warriors and fighters, and that they were still capable of doing something other than living in the last remaining shelter in America. Connor had been asked to represent the US as a marksman in the Olympics years before, so he knew all to well what inside of the stadium looked like, and what it felt like to be in front of a million eyes.

Though he let go of the pleasant memories and prepared himself for the massacre he was about to walk into, as they pulled up to the east gates and up in front of base command, the daunting simple geometric building was ruthlessly American, simple, clean, no excessive details; it was a daunting strait laced shadowed structure with gray stone walls that spared no excessive expense for luxury, just functionality. Thankfully, the A/C was the only thing they dared to care about as Connor walked with his duffel bag and rifle in tow, and inhaled fresh dry air, not the hot humidity that was common to the area, and entered a white tiled stone wall sitting area, marginally decorated with inspirational posters, maps, and lack luster gardening to give the office some life.

Connor stoped in front of receptionists desk, and a chinese national soldier looked up at Connor, clearly defined as such because even though she was wearing a US uniform, her lapel was marked with her red national flag, “Hello, do you have an appointment?" Her english was distinctly pronounced, but there was still a subtle accent marked beneath her breath, that showed that it wasn't her first language.

“I don't know, I believe I do, I'm Connor Mason." He answered and the receptionist looked down at her computer, “You are late, but I've been told to let you through, so head upstairs room forty-nine it'll be on the left."

“Wait… Forty-nine? Are you sure?" Connor asked a bit baffled by the office number because it wasn't his unit Commander's, unless she changed offices.

“That's what the notes say." The receptionist answered, and Connor nodded a bit confused, but relented, “Thank you," he finished before trying to get through security, which took a moment thanks to the chastity cage causing the alarm to go off every time he passed through. The guards eventually forcing Connor into a side door to hear and see his explanation. Shamefully Connor was forced to stand in front of a small squad of soldiers, with his pants down at his ankles with the polished silver chastity cage hanging in front of their eyes; it was easy to explain but a little uncomfortable and humiliating. However, they let him pass since it wasn't a security threat, giving Connor a chance to escape to the offices upstairs, and walk along cold hallways until he found room forty-nine. The simple metal door was missing it's name tag, but opened up into a secondary office area staffed only by liberally dressed Mincridarins, who wore only tan khaki pants or camo skirts, and black tank-tops, the room was kept distinctly colder than the rest of the building, but the Mincridarins seemed all to comfortable in the sweater weather.

The receptionist, a gray shoebill stork with bright yellow eyes looked up at Connor, “You're late human." He scolded before picking up the phone, accepting no other response as he called into a nearby office, “Connor Mason finally showed up sir," There was a pause, “General Garus will see you now."

“General Garus?" Connor repeated, his heart racing in a mild panic, as he realized how much he had fucked up, General Garus was the primary military advisor from the royal court of Mincara. A veteran knight and trainer for the king's royal guard. The very idea that he had left the general waiting made Connor want to die, but he tried smiling and bowed to the receptionist, who nodded to a nearby door, “May the reapers take you quickly." The stork prayed under his breath, as he let Connor walk into the general's office behind the desk.

General Garus' office was clean and empty, nothing decorative or personal hung on the walls, the only thing that decorated the walls were simple wooden shelves filled with binders and stacks of paper. There was no desk or chairs, the floor was completely empty except for a single oriental rug the size of a small yoga mat that a naked black wolf was sitting on, his clothes folded up beside him just next to the rug.

The black wolf had his back turned towards the door and faced the simple windows that overlooked the city and the primary road leading up to the command center, his tail was docked at an uneven angle, and what was left of the quarter sized tail was mangy and gray. The back was worn down with divots and scars that cut way swaths of fur leaving more bundled pink flesh than fur, his left arm and leg were replaced with black wood-stained prosthetics, that lived with a halo of enchanted white light. “Close the door," the general ordered with a rumbling and broken echo that made him sound like he had smoked for several years, but it also could have been that his vocal cords had been crushed judging by the battle scars, and the fact that Mincridarins didn't smoke.

“Of course sir," Connor apologized as he quickly shut the door, but the moment he had turned his back, he felt a daunting presence behind him, and he barely had a chance to flinch as the general slammed his fist up into Connor's liver, tearing off his duffel bag and throwing away his rifle, punching the wind out of him before grabbing the collar of Connor's fatigues, slamming him down onto the ground with a sickening crack as the tiles broke beneath Connor's ribs. The barbaric Mincridarn locked Connor into a monstrous chokehold that left him gasping for air. “Since you want to waste my time, then you can replace all the training time I lost." The general growled in Connor's ear, his ancient and deadly eyes burning a hole into Connor's head, his long-lost left eye more so than his right as it ethereal solar white light was unblinking, unwavering, and burning with fury.

“I gave an order, you human bitch, that means you obey, you work for me. I own your ass and you will fucking listen. Do you fucking understand!" He barked in Connor's ear, as he stretched Connor's spine bending it out with his knee as he pulled back, Connor coughing and struggling to resist as futile as it was.

“Yes, sir." Connor answered tapping out, but the general wouldn't relent, instead he kicked Connor across the room and into the main reception area; the door slamming to the ground with Connor tumbling in afterwards. Connor barely got a chance to breathe as the general slammed his heel into the back of Connor's head, rubbing his face into the tiled floor, none of the Mincridarins dared to make a move, in fact they showed no pity, and for the most part just kept working as the general pummeled Connor until he was a bruised and limp mass of flesh and bones on the floor.

But once the general was done and panting from his own exhausting workout, his chopped ears folded down to Connor's broken wheezing breaths, and exhaled as he dusted the blood from his knuckles. “You lasted longer than I expected." Garus complimented, before picking Connor up by the ankle and throwing him back into his office, grabbing a med kit from the nearby shelves. Taking out a crystal tipped pen he cut open Connor's shirt, and for a moment there was nothing, a silent break as the General's emotions settled, as he started circling the developing bruises and fractured ribs. It was the strangest sensation in the world, Connor was limp and barely conscious, but he felt everything, and for someone who could absolutely destroy another being, who had no problem with tearing someone apart, General Garus had the gentlest of hands out of everyone Connor had met. His fingertips were like feathers, his fur like washed wool, his touch was grating because of the decades of fighting and training, but he held the pen like a paint brush, like an artist working on the finest details of a painting.

“Do you know why you are here today?" The General grumbled, looking down at Connor with a broken breath.

“No sir." Connor exhaled, his throat aching from being chocked out in twenty different ways.

“You are being promoted and being granted the title of Sergeant, and being reassigned to my Command."

“You're command?" Connor questioned the pen stabbing into a delicate rib, “Sir," Connor added quickly, the pen relented, “I oversee troop training and deployment, so you will be working directly under me as one of my staff, training cadets, so you will be sending your reports to me instead of Commander Robinson."

“Yes sir," Connor responded with a painful heavy cough.

“Due to the ranking of sergeant, you are being granted a residency pass that allows you to own, rent or live here indefinitely in Avonmori, however, due to recent events, all residency documentation is being set with new restrictions." General Garus explained as he continued his delicate work, “What do you mean sir?"

“In the past week, there was a terrorist attack on base,"

“What…? What happen?" Connor asked with heavy breaths, getting a broken glare from the general, “Sorry sir."

“You will be if you interrupt me again?" General Garus warned before he continued working, “Someone had set off a bomb that painted a quarter of the coliseum purple, during one of the tournaments we were holding that day; it rendered the people in that area unconscious, no one was hurt. But the fact that it happened, and the fact that Zealots claimed that they were responsible has forced the UN to demand for more thorough background checks on all citizens and tighter restrictions on city residency. From this point on, all residency passes are being put on hold until the citizen can be determined to not be a threat to the population of Avonmori."

“But I-." Garus stabbed the pen into Connor's gut to silence him.

“These are just the rules, I'm not doubting you're record or your character, but until further notice all civilians looking for residency passes will have to live with a Mincridarn for a span of several months while their residency is being determined." General Garus continued as he rolled Connor over so he could work on his back, Connor twitched in pain but laid his head down on his arms, “So who will I be bunking with sir?"

“You will not be bunking with anyone on base, but you will be living with a female named Dagia Volvin."

“Dagia?" Connor asked again, a bit thrilled when he heard the familiar name, “I know her, she's a member of the tribunal isn't she?"

The General paused his work as he looked down at Connor, “You know Dagia Volvin?"

“Yeah, she's my lawyer, sir." Connor answered dutifully and General Garus exhaled, “I see."

“Is that a problem?"

“It would be in most cases, but Dagia as you said is a member of the tribunal, in her case I believe there would be an exception. Your examiner isn't meant to be related to you in any regard, they as humans say, “Aren't supposed to be biased", so I would normally have to reassign you to a new examiner. Dagia However is trained to be an impartial being, so her judgement should be deemed as fair in this case." The General explained, his heavy cold tone logical, and annoyed.

“Sir… I just want you to know, I don't know if I'll be a good fit, I don't really think I'm the teaching kind of person."

“Yes, your human general said as much, that you're not certified to teach because you didn't do the lessons to do so." General Garus groaned, rolling his eyes as he continued working, “So that means you will be paired up with a “Certified" instructor, and your involvement will be more akin to a freelance trainer, coming and going as needed for lessons." General Garus clarified which put Connor at ease as he breathed in relief, because at least he wasn't being put completely in charge. “That sounds good sir, sorry for being late. I went to turn in souls to Donmanthu." The general's hands paused sharply.

“So, you disobeyed an order for personal reasons?" General Garus growled as his thumb pulled up under Connor's shoulder blade and stabbed in deeply with a claw, “Maybe I had gone to lenient on you earlier."

Connor cringed as he looked up into a muzzle that shared no sympathy, before watching as a blur of shadows rolled over Connor, heavy fists laying into Connor once again beating him even harder than before, and not even relenting until he had been punched down into the couch in the lobby. “Now you will sit there like the undisciplined cub you are and think about what you did! You will wait there until Dagia comes by to pick you up! Learn from your mistakes; and learn to follow your fucking orders!"

“Yes sir," Connor breathed through split bleeding lips, looking up at the unconcerned and disappointed muzzles of all the staff who went about their work, avoiding eye contact with the wounded male; who was suddenly bombarded by his duffel bag and rifle as General Garus had thrown his belongings out of his office and across the room. Before picking up his broken door and slamming it back into place, the metal frame cracking the wall. But once the general disappeared the receptionist and the office returned to normal with no one even batting an ear or eyelash towards Connor, ignoring him and his painful breaths, and the heavy bruises that started to paint his face in several shades of red, brown and black spots. Their silence created a condescending atmosphere that made Connor feel like a kid watching his parents cook in the kitchen, while he was forced to sit on a naked and burning red butt to drive home his punishment and set him on the straight and narrow.

Connor didn't say or do anything for an hour as he waited patiently and nervously for Dagia to pick him up, as if she was his mother picking him up from detention, terrorized by his own thoughts about what she would say or do when she found out, because she was bound to be just as disappointed. Eventually, the office door opened up, and soft heels clicked across the floor as a well-dressed wolf wearing a clean blue and gray pinstripe suit, holding onto her gray stained leather briefcase.

Her eyes fell on Connor, and she exhaled, her clear disappointment causing her shoulder's to slump as she shook her head before looking at the receptionist, “Can I take Connor home?"

“Yes, of course, but before you do, I need you to sign these forums saying that you agree to be his examiner and that you agree to take care of him as if you were his warden." The receptionist said as he handed over a clipboard to Dagia with a stack of papers and a pen, “Mind if I sit down?"

“No, please make yourself comfortable." The receptionist waved off, before taking a call, Dagia came and sat down right beside Connor and kicked up her leg to work on the documents. “It-," Connor's voice was silence by the pen that stabbed into the bottom of his jaw, the gray she wolf showing no mercy as she glared at Connor with pale yellow eyes, “I know what you did, and we'll talk about it in the van." She finished as she retracted the pen and spun it through her fingers before skimming the document.

“Yes ma'am." Connor relented as he dressed himself, waiting for Dagia to finish; the she wolf wasting no time on the documents and handed everything over to the receptionist. “Thank you; Connor Mason, here." The shoebill ordered, glaring at Connor as he scratched the air with his finger, the jarring contrast as he smiled at Dagia and loathed the human, made abundantly clear that Connor had pissed on his own grave.

Connor's wounds made him a bit slow but he obeyed, grabbing his things as he limped towards the front desk, and to the shoebill who stood up and laid the documents in front of Connor, “You will need to sign these documents, but by signing these documents understand that by doing so will make Dagia Volvin your Legal Guardian until you are a certified resident of Avonmori, meaning that you will be living under her house and under her rules, and that you accept these contractual circumstances if you want to become a registered citizen."

“Wait… so she'll be like my mother?"

“Foster Mother, until further notice," Dagia clarified as she looked Connor up and down, clearly having something to say, but saying nothing as she handed Connor a pen from a nearby mug.

“I understand," Connor relented as he signed the documents, it was weird to think that for any period of time he would have two legal mothers. Dagia, and his own mom living outside the wall, it was a strange feeling, but it'd only be for a couple of months.

“Would you rather your examiner been someone else? You sound pretty disappointed Connor." Dagia stabbed as she picked up her briefcase, Connor coughed a little painfully as he inhaled to sharply and shook his head, “No ma'am, I'm glad it's you, sorry, I'm just a little tired and the fact that you'll be my foster mother for a time… it just feels a little weird that's all. Sorry." Dagia seemed barely pleased with his response but gestured him to move along, “I don't want to be late for Dinner, Atix is cooking steaks."

“Right, of course, sorry." Connor continued to apologize quickly sweeping through the stack of papers to sign his name and date them, before handing everything over to the receptionist.

“Dagia Volvin, you are now Connor Mason's legal guardian, please remember to follow the instructions in this binder and keep logs of any distinct behavior, if you have any questions or concerns, please call the numbers in the front sleeve and we'll take care of it." The receptionist explained as he turned around and dragged a thick three-inch gray binder out from the nearby bookshelf with Connor's name on the side.

“What's that?"

“This is a portfolio for your examiner, it holds a summary of your history, medical records, as well as log information, that they need to fill out as you live under their roof; the logs will be examined to determine your psychological well being and if you should be given a residency pass." The receptionist explained before looking at Dagia as he handed it over to her, “Remember to serve as an impartial witness and to fill out the reports even if there haven't been any noticeable behavioral incidents."

“OF course," Dagia agreed as she nodded Connor along, “Come along Connor, it's time to go home."

“Wait… What about my things? Like my clothes and stuff from my apartment outside the walls?" Connor asked, focusing on the Shoebill for answers.

“Those are being retained by the government and being thoroughly examined, to see if you were carrying any illegal objects and substances that might prove to be detrimental to the safety of Avonmori."

“Wait… What… are you serious?" Connor balked as the receptionist nodded, “You agreed to the seizure and search on page six, which explains everything." The shoebill explained referring to the signed document Connor had signed without reading; Connor cringed at humiliating futures, and rubbed his brow thinking about all the sexual paraphernalia and equipment he had stowed away.

“Is that going to be a problem Connor?" Dagia asked with a calmer but dense tone, exposing the law side of her life, Connor shook his head, “No, there shouldn't be anything like that, I never did drugs, but there is a lot of you know… sexual stuff." Connor whispered to her, though with everyone's sharp hearing pretty much the entire office heard regardless.

“Connor your dildos will be safe, if anything gets broken or damage the state will recompensate you, correct?" Dagia slammed, sharing no sympathy for his plight with her blunt voice, which made Connor cringed and blush as he heard some of the Mincridarins chuckled at his expense, but say nothing else. The shoebill nodded, “If anything gets lost or broken during the process we will compensate for the full value of the item, regardless of what it might be, including sexual paraphernalia."

Connor relented to the fact that no one would give him some kind of privacy, and sighed, “When will I get my stuff back?"

“Once examined and logged, you will get a key to a locker that will hold all of your things. This can take anywhere between two to three weeks depending on how much you own."

“So, what about clothes, I don't have much beyond my uniform?" Connor asked and the receptionist pointed to Dagia who was waiting patiently by the door, “That will be something for you to discuss with Dagia, she is your legal guardian it is her job to make sure that you live fairly and comfortably while under her roof."

“Oh… ok, thank you." Connor accepted with a heavy breath but the shoebill exhaled in frustration, “It's my job, but don't waste my time, if you have any questions or feel like you being unfairly examined or abused call the service line and we'll open up a report." His words nothing more than a sword he used to stab Connor with, and holding nothing back as he twisted it in with his retained rage.

“Of course, have a good day." Connor smiled trying to at least smooth things over. “And may the gods be with you where ever you go."

“And with you." The shoebill huffed, as he was obligated to finish the phrase, watching Connor grab his things before following behind Dagia's tail as they left the office. The prominent female clicking along the tiled hallway with a suave walk and rigid posture, an unbroken stride that dominated the hallway and pushed people out of the way, only ever pausing to give a courteous glance over her shoulder to make sure Connor was keeping up as if she was a hero leading an NPC in any modern game.

Connor kept his head low to hide his beaten body, the bruises a humiliating and painful reminder of his disobedience, but no one dared to say anything because Dagia was the one leading the way, and anyone who dared to intervene would have to face her wrath. Connor's new foster mother stopped by the front door, “Keep up if my steak gets cold because of you, I promise you your butt is the next thing going to get beat before bed. Understand?"
