A shifters Tale: Chapter 02 AJ New home.
AJ joins the guys Jake and Russ, after being rescued.
Chapter 02
A sudden click of a switch cause the room to go into darkness before the door was shut behind AJ. This was his final time in the apartment complex that he has been placed in for the few months he been off the streets.
He was a slender light skin guy, with a short blondish hair and a piercing set of green eyes. Wearing a pair of blue jeans and a white t-shirt with a loose jean button up shirt on the outside.
A few musical tones could be heard coming from his pocket, as he reach down to pull out the phone to check on the notification. Looks like his ride was almost at his place.
Placing the phone back into his pocket, as he grabbed his rolling luggage, he made his way to the elevator, pressing the down button to take the elevator down for the final time out of this place.
AJ was barely making it in life. With the rise of living in the city, as well as the constant crime and lack of a social life as it was, being that he wasn’t a human.
He was literally biting at the nails to survive. Only by chance that a secret friend had he even been able to hold on for the past few months, waiting for the signal to pack up and leave this ever forsaken city.
That day came, and he had left his job, a week before, as he was told it was nearly time.
His elevator made it to the ground level of his building, so he made his way to the doors after depositing the apartment keys in the drop box. The cool morning air hit him as he open the door, stepping outside to see a car pulled up at the curb.
A small Toyota corolla pulled up next to the curve that AJ was waiting at. A guy asked through the rolled down window, “AJ?” AJ nodded his head. “Just throw your luggage in the trunk its open now.” The guy says, as the lid in the back made a pop sound as AJ walked to the back to place his luggage into the trunk, before getting into the back after closing the lid.
“Thanks.” He said as he close the rear door. “No problem, so O”hare airport right?” the guy asked as he pulled away from the curve. “That’s the place.” AJ says as he watched the many buildings pass as they made their way to his destination.

A week Earlier.
Jake was packing up some of his stuff into several bags to store in the car for the upcoming trip. He looked over at his phone at the edge of his desk, before grabbing it and scrolling down the contact list before selecting a contact. A few rings later, “Hey AJ, this is Jake. Its go time. Yeah, I’ll send you the email after I purchase your ticket. No, just bring what you need, or don’t want to do away with, we should have no issue getting what you need when you are with me and Russ. Sure, will see you in a few days.” Jake tap the end call and toss the phone into his pocket, as he went to look for Russ.

Mean While back to present time
AJ had made it to the pick up area, waiting for the large RV that Jake had sent him in a message showing the massive thing in a picture.
In the meantime he reminisce of how he met up with Jake of all the folks he could have met that one night.
00000
Nearly a year in the past.
Somewhere in a ally a group of jacketed folks were gather around a figure who was curled up on the ground. A laughter came from one of the guys, “This fool thinks he can be on our turf.” Another guy kicked at the curled up figure, which was AJ wearing ragged clothing with sores on parts of his body that were exposed in the harsh cold biting wind in the ally that seemed to never stop blowing over everything.
A few doors down, at a restaurant, two other figure walked out into the cold night heading towards their hotel a few blocks down before it got totally night time.
The two figures heard the struggling going on down into the ally, one of the figures spoke softly as he ducked into the double corner spot of the current building they were next to, “Russ, I can smell the guy they are kicking is a shifter, and he isn’t looking to good at that.”
A few seconds later, the jacket fell along with the pants and the shoes were brushed aside, as a low growling sound was heard from the figure who was now leaning down on his black furred paws that were the size of a dinner plate.
Russ always joked, that he was in love with A Big Bad Wolf. Some folks would have never guess how much that was the truth.
Not only was the person he was walking next too, was shifting, he was shifting into a massive solid jet black wolf, with piercing yellow amber eyes, almost to the point they look like glowing orange flames dancing in those eyes.
Russ glanced around, to make sure they was not noticed, since the alley had some what of a double corner entrance brick work that kind of gave a spot for his partner to shift unnoticed.
A few moments later, a low menacing growl could be heard reverberating out of the ally way, as several of the guys that was around AJ were now acutely aware they had company. Even before the first guy could turn around, it was already two late.
The other three guys had no chance of stopping what happen next, as the first guy literally felt the hairs on the back of his neck raised up, as a wet sensation something closing around the back of his neck took place,
a very loud crunching sound occurred in that one second, before the guy fell to the ground, to reveal a set of yellow eyes staring at the other three.
Russ, could hear several bodies falling, as well as two of the guys literally ran pass him out of the ally, at a break next speed, not even looking back as they pass him.
Before he knew it, his partner had came back and was putting on his clothing. “Go get that little guy and lets get to the hotel.
The next thing AJ remember was waking up on a soft bed in a soft robed cleaned up, before he found out who the two guys who rescued him were.

Back to the present time.
AJ came out of his thoughts, as his phone started playing the ring tone that he assigned to Jake number.
Glancing up, he saw through the glass doors a large RV outside with the side door open. Standing up, he grasped his luggage, and started making his way towards the exit.

Jake was eyeing the right screen, watching to make sure he didn’t get to close to the curve with the RV, as well as watching for the pick up area.
“Okay, I’m here Russ, we just going to pick up and head out, so no fooling around if you get out please.” He spoke out loud as he put the RV in park, and sent a message to AJ to let him know that they just arrived at the door.
He looked up behind him as he got out of the seat when it pivoted around and laugh when Russ was standing there with a red tennis ball in his muzzle, slowly squeezing it, causing it to make a squealing sound as he did so. “Okay, now your just acting too cute. Lets go get AJ.”
Jake walked pass making his way to the door, Russ was right behind him as Jake open the door.
Jake stepped down, while Russ hopped down wagging his long tail while they look at the doors, to see a slender guy stepped out.

Stepping out of the doors, I noticed a large dog with a red ball in its mouth, just a squeaking it as his tail wagged. Jake was looking at me as he stood at the door.
“Hey Jake. . Who is this?” nodding towards the dog as I walked towards the door, the dog starting to jump up and down on his paws while really going to town on the ball. Before I got to the door, the dog jumped into the RV.
Jake place a hand onto my shoulder.
Grinning a bit, “Russ you behave, And glad you made it AJ. Lets get you settled in, so we can be on our way.” Jake says as he step aside to let AJ step up into the RV.
I looked around as I stepped inside the RV, realizing how massive this thing was, with nearly a full size kitchen and a work area. Jake stepped behind me. “The bedroom is directly in the back, yours is on the bottom area, I’m sure Russ will go with you.” Jake spoke as he pointed towards the back.
I just nodded as I follow Russ towards the back.

As I walked towards the back with my luggage, I pounder on other things in my mind. I was not a secured person, hell what was I kidding. I was a wreck. I did not know these two that much, other then they rescued me, as well as provided me a place to stay as they got things in order.
I knew that they were both shifters. Which was one of the questions I had, though I knew Russ now was a King Shepard from the looks of it. He did look cute, as well seems to be a playful sorts.
My self was a fox, well a artic fox to be exact, though I’ve not shifted in nearly 9 years. Why? Well that is a story in it self.
I step down into a spacious room, that had a queen size bed, and spots I could put my stuff.
Russ was watching me, with the red ball strangely on the floor right between his hunches, which was showing off a plump sheath, with a little bit of a lip stick protruding.
I felt the RV slowly started to move, no sounds of a motor, just a gentle sway as it moved.
I placed my luggage onto the bed. Unzipping it and placing things in the drawers, shelves as needed. I had very little, since I was on the streets so much, you learned to not keep things with you for long.
Even when I lived in the apartment, I barely had anything, just a few dishes, but mostly throw away plates and such. I knew then I was not going to be there as long, as I waited for this day.
Yet, now that I reach this point, I had no idea of what to do. I gave a small sigh which had Russ perked as he watched me.
“I don’t know” I looked up when Russ made a weird sound with his muzzle, s if it was like the ending sound of when you got the wrong answer on a game show.
He then, motion with his head towards the front. “What? Go talk with Jake?” he gave a small woof sound, before picking up his ball, then darting out of the room. I just shook my head and made my way back towards the front of the RV.
I noticed there were a lot of traffic in front of us, a sign says I65 north was 2 miles ahead. We were in the right lane as Jake drove. Russ was no where to be seen when I walked back up here, so he must have went to the other room.
“Take a seat on my right AJ. Russ will be with us in a moment.” Looking to my right I saw a small seat, sort of hidden from the divider wall, there was one also on the other side as well. Making my self comfortable in the seat, I heard somebody pass by and then was sitting in the other seat.
“Hey AJ, I should have shifted back before you got on.” Russ spoke as he sat in his seat.
I shaken my head, “Nah, it was okay.” I replied.
“So Russ told me that you were kind of stressed, as well you did not know what to do.” Jake asked as he guided the RV to merge onto the I65 heading towards Tennessee.
I thought about what to say, ruffling my face with my hand as a nervous habit. “Well, yeah. I know we hardly talked much. I still don’t know what is going on. Don’t get me wrong, I am glad to get out of that hell hole of a place. But, really I am clueless of where I fit in to this picture.” I responded

Several moments went pass while Jake tapped on the panel in front of him, while I watched the traffic move around us as we were traveling.
“well, I can say you have a very good chance of becoming more then you realize. How much of the history of Were-Kind do you know about?” Jake spoke as he drove.
“Really, not much. I was a orphan, as well had no family nor friends to speak of, until you came along that night. I’ve only shift once in my life, and even then I did not know what was going on when it happen. So I never try shifting since. That was nearly 8 or 9 years ago.” I responded with a bit of sadness in my voice.
Russ leaned over and pat me on the thigh. “Its alright. Your with us, as well we will help teach you.” He replied, as Jake nodded. “Well, we are not from this planet to start with. Well, the ones who wasn’t born here that is.” Jake says as my eyes went wide.
I spluttered, “Wait, your telling me, that there is another place, that our race has lived before coming to this planet? How is that possible, we can’t even land on the moon after 70 years.” I could only imagine how that was possible.
“Yes, well, its more of a rift that brought us here. Think about it, we are able to shift, its not far fetch to think other things are real. Our forefathers were able to create a stable link between this world and ours, as well as kept it hidden all this time.” He replied as he slowed the RV down as he merged onto a ramp going into a Rest Area, while talking to me.

The sound of hot air being blown came from two appliances on the counter, with rotating pizza being heated as it turned.
I had found the two appliances still in there box in the room between the bed room and bathroom area. Seems there were a bunch of new stuff still not unpacked. I checked the freezer to find that we had pizza and a bunch of other items. So I started to make pizza as Jake and Russ explain some things to me, as well
As they were unpacking some of the stuff they got, before picking me up at the airport.
“Well, that explains why I kept having issue with the strange smells, and didn’t know about them.” I said as I watched jake setup a fancy computer on the desk that he was going to use as his work space.
“Yeah, every were-kind has a scent, though that is dependent on if they are in a pack, pride and what not, as yours would be what ever specie you are.” He spoke as he turned back to face me in his desk chair.
I was leaning against the kitchen counter as I was listening to him, looking up at Jake, “Well, I am a fox. . .” I said with a hint of nervousness. Jake and Russ only busted out laughing, which only confused me.
Russ pulled out a twenty dollar bill out of his sweat pants as he handed it to Jake, My brow only deepened at the gesture. “I made a bet with Russ when we first met you, that you were some kind of were-fox.” He replied with a knowing grin. “Yeah, I said that you were a were-coyote.” Russ responded as he finished putting the last unboxed gaming console in the cabinet after hooking it up.
Pointing at Russ I rejplied “So Russ is a Were-Dog a King Shepard from what I’m guessing, what are you Jake?” I waved my hand at him. My eyes began to grow wide as what took place in front of me.
Jake smirked as he listen to AJ saying he now knew what Russ was, then while AJ turned to him waving his hand towards him, he shifted just his head, causing AJ to go silent as he was being stared at by Jakes two flaming orange eyes, with his black cuffed ears perked straight ahead, with a muzzle that seemingly was showing off the impressive teeth and a red tongue making a panting motion, before jake’s head shifted back.
“Were-Wolf. . . “ AJ says as he blinked several times from the shock. “So is there any other secret that I haven’t learned yet. Apart from the history lesson?” I asked as the first pizza was done. I reached to pull the drawer to find the pizza cutter, placing it on the counter, while looking for a pot holder, which was in a drawer below the first with a set of oven mitts. Placing the first pizza onto the pot holder, allowing the metal turn plate to stabilize on the counter while cutting the pizza into four parts. I listen to Jake while doing this.
“Well, there is the mental communication that were-kind can do, but that only works if the were-kind either bond in a battle, or through, well.” Jake responded going some what silent at the end. “He means if they get it on, in which case. Me and Jake are bonded.” Russ says with a glint of mischief in his voice.
Jake only grown as I stopped cutting the second pizza in surprise.
