Graceful Monstrosities - medium poem
This poem was inspired by the couple of spiders I've found in my home already this season. I'm not a huge fan of spiders, but I know there are plenty of people and furs that love them! I decided to write about how someone may not like them, but you can't deny that they are interesting little things. This was written on 5/27/2016.

Our eight legged friends and foes
Are numerous in size and shape.
We see them useful and see them as pests.
They are a source of our fears and wonder.
It's their legs.
How numerous they are.
It's how those legs spin the webs,
That makes them fascinating and disturbing.
It's in their eyes.
How predictable or abnormal they can be.
Is it because you never know where they look
That makes them beautiful and horrifying?
What if it's their body.
So close to being insectile.
Maybe it's the proportion of the body to their legs.
It makes them odd and imperfect.
Could it be all their little hairs?
Miniature feelers across their bodies.
Is it that nearly human trait,
That makes them freakish and familiar?
Those thin, strong, fibrous webs are next in line.
Used to ensnare unsuspecting victims
And to dangle around your home.
This causes a shroud of eerie uniqueness to follow in their wake.
Shallow burrows are for the larger ones,
To pounce on their passing prey.
To ease our fears these types are far and few between.
Maybe this is why they seem to lurk while being far away.
Here you can find the proof,
That our fears can have beauty.
Spiders aren't just pests.
They're efficient survivors.
