The sounds of heavy steps caused the windows of small shops to vibrate, and car alarms to sound in the late afternoon air before a unearthly shriek came from behind a tall building.
Then a large mutated Flagnight came busting through the wall, being forced through by a green beam of energy that cut through its chest like a hot knife through butter.
The large spider like creature laid upon the ground, twitching slightly in its last moments of life as a large mech stepped through the large hole in the building...standing thirty-six feet high, the sun reflecting off the armor...two Zypher Beta Cannons resting upon its shoulders, and twin barreled machine guns recessed in the middle of both its clawed hands. The upper body of the large mech slowly turned to the side as the lower half staid in place.
"Area clear...moving on." spoke a male voice on the radio before the towering machine walked on down the street, its large paw like feet; leaving imprints in the ground in its wake.
"Unit one...radar shows you have company...that Flagnight must have called in some backup, you got a group of bugs heading your way." spoke a woman on the com.
"Roger that...Moving to intercept." replied the pilot as he caused the walker to break into a slight jog until he stopped in front of a oncoming group of bugs. Slowly the cannons powered up while he opened fire with the machine guns, the High Velocity 22mm Anti-Armor rounds ripping into the oncoming infestation until one of the insects got close enough to attack, its scorpion like tail came down hard on the mechs shoulder. With a loud whine from the cannons, they both fired, sending twin beams of energy into the crowd; obliteration all of the attackers, leaving a deep trench that busted out the center of every building in a line for about four blocks, and also leveling anything else in between.
"All targets destroyed." spoke the pilot before the area around the walker shimmered, them faded away; leaving just the machine in a large gray room. Soon the cockpit opened up allowing the pilot to exit.
Verna stepped into the large room followed by Juval. "Dose anything require work, Michael?" asked Juval, watching as the young human climbed down from the mech, removing his helmet when he reached the floor.
"The Beta cannons need to charge faster...it allowed one to get close, even though the armor wasn't breached...I wouldn't be sure just how much it can take." he replied while looking back at the machine.
"How? The charging is as fast as it can be...pulling more power from the unit will cause the whole system to overload." Juval spoke as he slightly scratched his head, before looking to Verna when she cleared her throat.
"I have a idea...what if we make the cannons use the same charging system as out Anti-Matter cannons?"
Michael blinked slightly as he looked to her. "Is that a system that pulls atoms from the air to forma projectile?"
"Yes, it's nowhere as strong, but only using the charging system...the time required to charge up between shots is greatly reduced. Roughly about half the time I think." she replied with a smile.
"Major...how long will it take to add them on the units?" asked Juval.
"It's a very simple thing...about a day."
"Good, have all available workers put on the project."
Soon a young dingo stepped into the room dressed in a security uniform, stopping near Juval. "Commander, we have a slight problem."
"What is it?" he replied, turning to look at the dingo.
"It seams someone has been trying to access the weapons lab."
"Dose anyone else know?"
"No sir, just the four of us and your private security detail. We can't tell who it is untill we repair the scanner...they used a Jamming System on it prior to trying to hack the lock." spoke the dingo as Verna looked to Michael who watched silently with his arms crossed.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked while placing a paw on his arm, causing him to look at her , then back to Juval.
"For someone to try getting into a place they aren't meant to be in raises a few questions on who to trust." Michael spoke softly while glancing around "How many on this ship have the Jamming devices?"
"Only security." replied the Dingo as he looked to Michael.
"And they would have a master code for the lab right?"
"Yes, why?" the Dingo asked as he tilted his head.
"Well I'm taking a shot in the dark here but I think we might have a turncoat here."
"What do you mean?" Juval asked while looking at Michael carefully.
"Well look at it...who has anything to gain from breaking into the lab that "Just" happens to hold the Zypher Beta?" he replied while reaching up with one hand, running his fingers through his hair as Verna spoke up.
"We know the human military can't reach us here, and they already said they wouldn't do anything." she paused for a slight second before speaking once more "The only ones that will benefit from this would be the Flagnights...but...we have scanners for the parasites now...how..."she was cut off when Michael clapped his hands together.
"They wouldn't need to infect someone if they could get a follower." he spoke softly while crossing his arms once more while giving a slight nod.
"How?" replied Juval who had a mixed look of shock and anger.
"Never underestimate the bugs...I did once, and I'll never do that again." he replied before looking to the Dingo "Can you set up the scanner to ignore the Jamming?"
"I think we can, why?"
"If you can do that but make it act offline...we can see who is trying to get inside." Michael looked to Verna who gave a smile, having never seen someone with ideas that sounded solid...besides, he was right with the beta cannons being placed on the Mechs.
"Do it!" Juval said, causing the Dingo to turn and leave. Juval then turned to the both of them "I hope your idea works...we can't afford to lose any information on our plans or the cannons. We have only one chance at this."
"My only worry is about the leader of those insect rejects. It's like a puppet master." Michael shrugged slightly as Verna gave a nod.
"So, now it's our turn to give the strings a tug...right?" she spoke as her tail slightly swayed behind her.
"Right...and hopefully pull the leader from the backdrop."
"Nether less...we can't lose this battle." Juval said while walking out of the room with both of them following close behind.
Meanwhile upon the planets surface the Flagnights had began there work on reshaping the land, what was once a beautiful prosperous city...was now a desolate waste of crumbling buildings and trash. Filing down the streets, the Flagnight army marched along sounding like the beats of a million drums sounding through a deep canyon while overhead there ships flew. Off in the center of the city resided a large vessel adorned with various weapons and colors, clearly stating it was there leader and master.
Deep within the large ship, a room was dark and unnerving, soon a shadow moved as a computer screen lit up with a picture of a young panther.
"Do you have the Cannon yet, Lieutenant Zerka?" spoke the shadow.
"No my lord...I will try again soon." replied the panther.
"My patients is wearing thin, Lieutenant."
"I'm sorry...I am doing all I can."
"JUST GET ME THAT CANNON!!" yelled the shadow, its voice going high pitched in anger before the screen shut off. "Incompetence!"
Zerka looked at the blank screen before turning around and walking out of the storage room he had been in, making his way to the weapons lab all the while trying to look as composed as he could. Upon returning to the large vault like door, he took a small remote from his pocket, and pressed a button; causing the scanner that hung on the wall to shut down, but what little did he know was that the scanner was still working as if nothing happened. He then set to work on the keypad of the door, looking behind him slightly from time to time.
"Gotcha you sum-bitch." Michael smirked as he looked at the display screen inside the security room, before taking out his revolver, checking the cylinder while walking to the door, followed by Verna and the young Dingo. Replacing the revolver slowly, Michael walked down the halls to the lab, stepping behind Zerka with a slight grin. He slowly drew the large .44 magnum and pulled the hammer back slowly, the click of it locking in place causing the panther to stop what he was doing and slowly turn around only to be staring down the black bore of the revolver, a red laser forming a small ball on his throat.
"Going somewhere Kitty."
"Lieutenant Zerka? How long have you been a sell out to your own people?!" growled Verna as her paw rested upon the hilt of her own sidearm, the fur on the back of her neck standing up slightly.
"Ever since the first time the Flagnights showed up. What can I say...I'll do anything for the right price." Zerka chuckled slightly "Don't you see...we can have a new world...we can live in peace and never fear what it would be like to lose...all we would have to do is obey there Lord and master..."
"Cork it, Mother fucker. Its one thing to be a sell out...but to be a sell out and trust that "Cock and Bull" story...now that's just lame." Michael retorted sharply while accenting his statement by moving slightly closer, his finger tightening on the trigger. "Where the hell is the Puppet Master at?"
"He's on earth...taking over that pathetic ball of dirt." the panther replied before the barrel of the revolver came down on the side of his head, sending him to the floor, before Michaels boot found its mark; slamming into Zerka's stomach, taking the wind out of him.
"That's my home you ungrateful son of a bitch! Get up!" he growled before he reached down, grabbing him by the neck of his shirt "I said Get UP!!" he yelled before lifting him up and slamming him into the wall, the barrel of his revolver pressed to the young panthers temple. "I should kill you right now..." he then stopped when he felt Verna place her paw upon his shoulder.
"That's what he would like...the Flagnights have a way of punishment for failure...and a quick death would be a blessing, compared to what they will do to you." she spoke softly, watching as Michael let go and stepped back, allowing the Dingo to move in and cuff the panther. "We have him now...and we can win this battle."
"Don't bet on it...even if you do manage to fight all of his soldiers, you'll never beat the Lord." Zerka spoke softly before he was taken away. Michael slowly un-cocked the hammer, before slipping the revolver back in the holster, looking to Verna.
"I want to end this battle...I want to go home..." he spoke softly, looking to the side...soon Verna placed her paw to his cheek, turning his head to look at her as she smiled.
"I know...so do I...Can we raise a family there?"
"Yes."
"Good...because that's all I want...to live a peaceful life with you and our pups." she spoke softly before placing a soft kiss to his lips. She then walked away with a smile. "Come on...lets go see how the upgrades are coming."
"Right." Michael replied, following her...he could hear his pulse slowly calm, the beating in his ears ebbing away into a soft, dull throb. Taking a deep breath to relax himself just before they reached the hanger that housed the army of Mechs that would aid the battle...Verna was the first to step inside the large room, followed by Michael. The sounds of machinery was heavy in the air along with the slight smell of grease and burning metal. Along the walls, the machines stood silently, armed with the various weapons they needed...the Beta cannons had been issued a large pack like device under the armor to protect it from any attacks. The glowing green power cells slowly taking on a golden tint to them. "So...that's the charging system huh...this should greatly turn the tide in our favor."
"That's what we all hope." Verna replied softly while standing in front of him, her long tail swaying slightly behind her. Her platinum blonde hair seaming to shine in the bright glow of the lights. Michael glanced to the side some before he then looked to her once more.
"Verna..." he spoke softly, while moving to stand beside one of the small windows that allowed one to look out into the depths of space. Michael gave a soft sigh, looking at all the stars while he spoke softly. "What if he's right...what if Earth is lost...what if there is no where else to go there?" he looked to Verna as she stepped up beside him, placing her paws upon his shoulders with a soft smile as she brushed her nose softly against his.
"There will be a home for us my love...don't lose hope, there is so much for us to live for." she whispered softly while moving one paw up to gently caress his cheek. Slowly Michael gave a nod, his eyes becoming lost in hers...all the tension in his body melted away into nothing...it was something about her that just made him relax so much that he could almost be put to sleep with out knowing it...maybe it was just the fact that they both loved one another deeply. Slowly Verna looked out the window with a soft smile. "Look at it...all those stars..." she then closed her eyes "Endless darkness...but with a guiding light everywhere you turn. Me and Luke used to sit with our father long into the night and look at the stars...he would tell us stories about his campaigns and the wars...the way the world was made and how the stars came about."
This had sparked a slight interest in the young human. "Really...how dose it go?"
"That the great god Terlika mated a young goddess...Ulana..." slowly Verna looked to Michael slowly. "It's said that when she died...he turned her body and soul into dust and spread it out among all of the galaxies in the form of stars...and that he waits for the time to rejoin her."
"Ah...I see..." he replied, looking back out at the stars before he took on a whole new look. "Do you think...that...that maybe my mothers out there somewhere...her...spirit?"
Verna looked at him slowly, the way the sadness plaid over his face. Slowly she placed her paw on his back, her claws softly poking through the fabric of his shirt as she softly rubbed her paw in soft, slow circles. "Want to talk about it?" she asked as her ears laid back slightly.
"I lost my mother when I was thirteen...although I have never really known her.....I...I miss her." he closed his eyes "Only a short time have I see her, and on the last time...I never told her how I felt." he shook his head slowly, while turning to look at the beautiful lupine beside him. "Lets go, Verna...I'm tired and its been a long day."
"Okay...lets go." she replied softly as she led him out of the hanger and down the halls, to there shared quarters and to the bed. After they had changed out of there day cloths, they both crawled into the bed together, taking one another into each others arms before falling asleep. When morning came, Verna was the first one up, slowly she moved from the bed...stretching out slightly while yawning widely. She then turned to look at him sleeping silently, soon he had turned over with a slight groan before he opened his eyes looking at her.
"Morning..." he spoke softly, before he raised an brow at her when she giggled softly "What?".
"Seams you had a good dream." Verna giggled more, causing him to look down, before he looked back at her while crossing his arms with a playful mock growl.
"You always do that to me in my dreams!" he retorted before grinning. "I think you should take care of Mr. Woody sense you "DID" do it to me in the first place."
"I just might." she moved from the foot of the bed, crawling up to him on all fours, placing her body over his as he moved his arms up around her, before he pulled her down into a soft kiss. "I love you." she murred softly as her tail slowly moved down between her legs, brushing over his shaft that stood at attention under the sheet, causing him to smirk softly.
"Come on...don't be such a tease." he gave a soft mocking whimper as he moved one hand under her, cupping her right breast...giving her a soft squeeze causing Verna to moan deeply. "Good thing we don't sleep with cloths on huh.?" he snickered as he rubbed her pert nipple with his thumb as she gave a slight nod while she moaned once more. Soon the com chimed in causing them both to look at the wall mounted box.
"Major Alera...come to the command room...your mate as well." spoke Juval.
"Must be important if its Juval." Michael looked up to Verna with a soft smile as he kissed her nose. "Save this for later my love...and I'll make you howl.".
"I'll hold you to that." she replied while getting off of him and moving to get her uniform on, as Michael did the same, strapping his revolver to his side after checking it over quickly...soon they both made there way to the command room, stepping into the room where they was met with Juval and all the commanders for the attack fleet.
"Glad you both could make it...we are going to attack today...the rest of the squad are suited and ready...we'll be taking transport ships loaded with the walkers and other ammo to earth where you will be dropped inside the planets atmosphere." Juval spoke while standing in front of a large 3D map.
"Dose this involve Halo Jumps?" Michael asked softly
"Yes...your Mechs will be issued special jets that will slow down your rate of descent...they will also stand for your boosters for when you have to move over a high object or get the drop on your enemy." Juval looked to him slowly "There is also a large ship in the center of the city...we think it is the master of these insects...we need to take him out before he can flee."
"I'll take him down. Just clear me a path." he replied while looking at the map intently, before looking to Verna, who looked at him carefully...her eyes full of worry.
"Don't worry...I know what I'm doing."
Verna gave a slight nod as Juval spoke up. "Okay...you both get ready, you'll both lead the first wave...god speed."
"Thank you." Verna replied softly before she turned and walked out of the room with Michael following behind her closely. They made there way to the hanger that held the transports and the walkers...after they had put on a uniform that was required. Once they had gotten into there own Mech, the large engines powered up with a soft whine as the controls flickered on. Slowly Verna looked to the side, to the Mech that stood beside her. "Michael..."
"Yeah?" he replied as he flicked on a switch, glancing at her through the cockpit window.
"Be careful."
"You too."
Slowly the both of them took the walkers onboard the ship, moving to there respective positions as locking clamps lowered down upon the shoulders of the walker, holding them in place as the rest of the machines moved onboard. After what seamed like a life time, the large transport powered up and flew from the docking bay of the large command ship before getting far enough away, then disappearing in a flash of light. A little later the transport dropped from warp above Earth, coming down quickly toward the launch point before a voice came from the com.
"Prepare to drop...disengaging locks. Good luck."
Soon the sound of the shoulder locks unlatching was heard slightly before a large wall moved up in front of each walker, sealing off the rest of the area from the hatches that soon opened. The vacuum of space pulled each machine from there spot, sending them toward the earth at breakneck speeds. Upon breaking through the cloud cover, the boosters on the backs of each walker fired off, slowing them to a safe speed before cutting off...both Michael and Verna was the first to hit the ground, the shock from the impact caused cracks to web out all around them.
"God...my home...it's..." Michael spoke softly before he shook his head. "Lets clean this place up..." he added softly as the Beta cannons warmed up and the machine guns loaded.
"Sooner the better." replied Verna before she smirked "Welcoming committee is here.".
As if on cue, a large group of Flagnights marched down the street toward them as more of the machines landed behind them. Michael was the first one to open fire with the quad machine guns, sending molten led into the oncoming horde as the cannons powered up quickly, the once green beam of energy was now a soft golden color as both cannons fired, obliterating all in there path. Some of the bugs had managed to get clear before the beam struck, but a good majority of them had fallen from the attack. Soon a all out war formed, as more and more of the insects came from various streets and buildings, moving toward them like a black swarm of death as the sound of machinegun fire filled the air with its song...like a ungodly song that mingled with the screams of rage from the Flagnights.
It was clear the bugs didn't expect to go up against armored machines, they was cut down regardless of how much they had tried to get the drop on them, clearly outnumbering the machines, but even that was a lost attempt as each and every one that had attacked, was met with death from the machineguns and cannons. The battle was long and hard as ground was gained slowly until the battle had found its way to the large command ship that rested in the center of the city.
"There it is...Cover me...I'm going in. its time to end this." Michael spoke up through the com as he piloted his way toward the ship, dropping each and every Flagnight that had stood in his way until a bolt of energy slammed into the machine sending it slamming through a building. Once the dust settled, sparks could be seen flying from the damaged walker, one of the cannons had been blown off, a large hole in the middle just under the cockpit that had cracked glass.
"MICHAEL!" Verna screamed.
"I'm fine...keep away from the ship...I don't know what the hell that was...but the Armor is trashed. I'm going in on foot, I'll see if I can take it out from within and end this battle." Michael replied as he kicked out one of the cracked panes of glass before he climbed out with his Zypher Beta cannon on his left arm. He then made his way to the ship, finding his way inside. Looking around slowly he walked down the halls, before stopping when a com screen beside him flickered on showing a dark shadow.
"So...you are the one causing all the trouble. You are indeed a talented human...I shall enjoy killing you...come to my playground. This sentry bot will show you the way." the shadow spoke softly, in a deep, high pitched voice before the screen turned off. Soon a small spider like robot emerged from a hidden door to the side before moving off ahead of him with a soft beep. Shrugging slightly, he followed behind the small machine until he was led into a large arena like room before the bot left through another hidden door.
"Okay...I'm here...where are you ya asshole." Michael called out slightly before he turned to a sound at the other side of the room, where a large door opened up slowly, before the sound of multiple taps came from the darkness...soon the Flagnight King emerged from the darkness, its body greatly dwarfing all the larger bugs, its tail had a large four foot ling spike on the end, its large pincer like claws was bigger than a Mid-sized SUV with small six inch spikes all along the inside.
Michael blinked slightly, looking up at the towering insect, while gripping the handle on the Beta cannon tightly as he rested one hand upon the side.
"My...you are small...how can something so small possibly be able to stop me.?" snickered the King.
"Size don't matter buddy. I'm going to bring you down." Michael retorted sharply while taking aim with the cannon before he dodged to the side when the scorpion tail came down where he was standing, the large spike pricing a hole in the floor as if it was nothing but paper. Michael quickly took aim, charging up the cannon before he fired at the tail, the beam of energy slamming into the side it full force, eating away at the armor like shell before a large claw slapped him away like a lint-ball sending him sliding on the floor before he got up slowly. "Damn...this isn't going to be a easy as I thought."
"That's right human...you will DIE!" roared the King as he charged at Michael; who had charged up the cannon once more and fired the beam right into its face causing it to scream in pain as it staggered backwards, waving its claws in the air in front of its face.
"Found your weak point." he smirked as he charged up again, ducking down low when it swung its large tail at him...he could feel the rush of air above him before aiming once more and sending a beam of energy into one of the Kings legs...and due to a lack of a stronger shell, the attack blew off its leg at the joint causing the large bug to fall onto its side. Charging up another shot...he then fired it at one of the claws, aiming for the joint there as well, rewarded when it shattered off like a dry twig. He then moved back toward the far side of the room, watching as the King stood up slowly, blood dripping from the wounds that he had received from the cannons attacks. Slowly taking out his Ruger .44Magnum Revolver, he took aim at the Kings head before he fired, the shot finding its home in the large monsters left eye, causing it to rear back, roaring in pain. A soft glint of metal caught Michaels eye as he then took aim at it and fired, the shot causing sparks to fly from what was the command box for the ships self destruct.
"Self destruct activated...there is four minuets before overload." spoke a voice over the com.
"Ah shit..." whispered Michael as he took aim with the Beta cannon and charged it up to full power, green tendrils of energy flowing past him before the cannon barrel extended out, reversing the flow of energy as a large ball formed on the end of the barrel. "YO ASSHOLE!!!" he yelled out, causing the King to look at him with a roar...he then grined slowly. "Go to hell...AND TAKE YOUR FRIENDS WITH YA!!!" he then fired off the fully charged cannon, the large beam streaking toward the King with blinding speed as it slammed into its face once more...the burst of energy causing green vapors to rush past the human as the beam kept steady force upon its target before the Flagnight King fell to the floor twitching slightly. Slowly he walked over looking down at the bug, its body charred and burned.
"How...can...this be? You're...just a...mortal human..." spoke the King in a wheezing breath. Michael just smirked slightly while taking out his magnum.
"This is my home...and I will do all in my power to save it...if you had a heart...you would know that a bond is hard to break... Now its time for you to leave...and give my home back to me."
"You may have won this one...but the war will never end...you will fight for the rest of your life...Human!"
"Maybe so...my war will never end...but yours has...go to hell." Michael retorted before he pulled the trigger, the heavy magnum round ripping into the Kings flaking shell before its whole head burst into a shower of ash. He then looked up when the ships automated voice reminded him he had only a minuet to get clear of the ship. He then took off in a sprint down the halls, hoping that he remembered the way out as the seconds passed by him quickly. When he had gotten outside, he had noticed that the area was cleared...soon Verna's mech landed down in front of him.
"Come on...Hop on, that blast is going to level this whole city." she called out to him from the Walkers speakers as Michael climbed up onto the mech before the boosters fired, sending the machine into the air, rocketing over the city before the command ship glowed, white lights showing through forming cracks in the armor before it exploded in a dome of fire and energy...sending out a large shockwave that leveled every building in the city, and also hitting the mech just as it reached the outside of town, sending it crashing to the ground. Soon everyone rushed over to see if they could help as the cockpit hatch busted off allowing Verna to crawl from the wreck, as Michael slowly stood up from beside the mech, moving up to help his mate stand up, he then looked back to the leveled city with a slight smirk.
"It's over?" Verna asked softly as she leaned softly against him. He held her close as he shook his head slowly.
"It's over for now...but I have a feeling that the wars not over by far."
"Why do you say that?" she asked softly.
"He told me so." Michael looked to her slightly before looking back to the city. Thinking slightly, before he looked up when the Command ship appeared overhead, he then grinned. "Welcome to your new home."
"It's beautiful." Verna giggled softly as she gave him a soft lick on the cheek. Everyone gave cheers of victory that the battle had been won with ease, soon as the command ship landed and everyone was debriefed and given there new jobs after they had rested up after the battle...everyone set to work on rebuilding the city...with the advanced technology and skills...the work was faster that modern style. Michael had moved over to talk with one of the young vixens who was helping out in the work, and when he had walked away the Vixen watched him with a look that no one knew about...slowly a grin formed on her muzzle as she turned to get back to work, and as the sun light had hit her eyes, they reflected with the style of a honeycomb effect that only a insect has...the sign that the King had spoke the truth...the battle may have been won...but the war would rage on for ever.
(The End....or Is it? You decide. This is the last chapter on this for now...sorry I have been so damn late...I blame Forza Motorsport, and a writers block for this.)
