Father figure - Chapter 1: Problem Child
#4 of Father Figure
"Pain, it's the only thing that reminds me I'm alive." Jim thinks as he looks at his swollen
paw. He's sitting in the Principal's office, he and Roger got in a fight about ice cream.
Nobody knows why two 18 year old lions would get into a fight over ice cream, but
apparently Jimmy started the argument and he was the first one to swing his fist.
Jimmy is you everyday problem child. His father disappeared when he was a week old, so his
mom had to take care of him his whole life, not that she's doing a good job. As soon as
Jimmy went to preschool; she decided to return to her law career. There are two things he
hates about this school the most, bullies and emos. He was bullied ever since he was in
first grade, until he decided to stand up for himself and kick the living hell out of them
by learning some kick boxing. He's pretty lonely though, he has no friends and with his
mom working on cases most of the time, he doesn't get much attention from her. Lately,
he's been very aggressive. He gets angry at the smallest things, like for instance the ice
cream incident of today.
Jim looks down at his swollen paw, and looks up at the principal sitting behind his desk. He
can't stand the principal, but then again, he can't stand most rhinos.
"Jim, it's your third fight this week, your grades are dropping, and you miss classes and you
dropped out of kick boxing a few months ago. What's wrong?" the principal asks.
"Sir, I honestly don't know. I'm trying as hard as I can." Jim replies.
"Is it something at home?" the principal asks, leaning forward as he joins his hands
together.
Jim shakes his head, "No, it's not." he replies.
Mr. Winston sighs, "Jim, I'm going to have to ban you from school for a week." he hates
saying these things, some kids actually want to get banned. "Before you rejoice in the
fact that you don't have to go to school for a week, I'm going to send you for some
counseling." he continues. Mr. Wilkinson gives Jim a card, "Give this card to the
councilor, she'll know that I sent you." he says.
Jim lowers his head in shame, as he takes the card from the principal he cringes, he must
have broken something in the fight.
"Thank you, sir." he says.
There's a knock on the door and Jim's mom comes walking into the office, after the
principal explains that Jim has to go for counseling instead of school for the next week,
they return to the car.
"Ice cream, huh?" Jim's mom breaks the silence. She just can't get her head around the fact
that he started a fight over ice cream.
Jim says nothing; he just stares out his side window.
"It's for attention, isn't it?" she asks, she's getting angry, but Jim still just keeps
quiet.
"Jimmy, honey. Talk to me." she says firmly.
"Why? It's not like we ever talk anyways." Jim mutters.
"Oh, come now. We talk." his mom says, "and why did you hit Roger just because of some ice
cream?" she continues, but she's greeted by silence once more.
"Okay, look. I have to be at court in 15 minutes, I'm going to drop you off at the doctor
for a checkup. You could've gotten hurt." she says. For a moment Jim thinks about just
leaving for home the moment she's out of sight, but she knows him better than to just leave
him there without making sure he's going inside. "And I want a note from him, you're not
going to go home the moment I'm out of your sight." she warns.
"Don't worry mom, I won't" he says, knowing he'll have to go inside now.
5 minutes later the car stops outside the doctor's offices.
"Mom, it's the wrong office." Jim mentions.
"It's the closest, Jimmy. I can't drive all across town to Dr. Jameson now, you'll have to
go in here." she says, she's in a hurry.
Jim gets out of the car but before he can say goodbye, his mom drives away, leaving him
behind to fend for himself yet again. He loosens his tie and untucks his shirt. School
uniforms suck.
He enters the reception area, and the friendly lady tells him to wait and disappears behind
a door marked "Dr. Everton". A minute later she emerges from the office and instructs him
to step inside the room.
The room is bright; everything is white, as it normally is inside any doctor's office. Jim
sits down on a chair near the table. There's a bed to the left, and some cabinets with
medicine to the right.
"Ah, you must be Jim?" the doctor mentions as he enters the room.
"Yes, sir." Jim confirms as he shakes the doctor's paw.
He takes a good look at the doctor; the lion must be around 50 years old. He can't see
much of his physique underneath the white coat, but looking at his frame he must work.
Dr. Everton instructs Jim to sit on the bed. He takes his stethoscope and places the two
upper points in his ears. Jim unties his shirt,
"Take a deep breath please." the doctor says as he places the flat point of the stethoscope
on Jim's chest. It feels cold, and at one time it accidently presses against his left
nipple.
"I need to give you a shot." the doctor says in a serious tone.
"A- a shot?" James says, he hates needles.
"Yes, you might have some internal bleeding. It's just an anti-biotic." Dr. Everton
replies. "Lie down on your stomach and pull down your pants a tad, please." he says as he
walks to the cabinets on the other side of the room.
Jim has never showed his ass to anyone before, not even to a doctor, but he does as the
doctor says. He pulls down his pants a bit and rests down on the edge of the bed. He so
nervous, he doesn't even want to see the needle.
He just stares straight into the wall in front of him while the doctor comes up behind him
with the needle. He looks down at Jim's ass, naked right in front of him. It lets
something loose inside him, something he never felt before. He urges to stick his finger,
Or something else for that matter, up Jim's hole. However, he restrains himself and gives
Jim the shot.
A minute later, the needle is in the trash and Jim's pants are back where they belong. Jim
sits on the bed while Dr. Everton does some final checkups.
"If you don't mind me asking. Why did you get into a fight?" he asks.
Jim looks up at the doctor, he doesn't know him and he's probably never going to see him
again, so he tells Dr. Everton everything about his anger, his dad who he never knew, his
mom who neglects him, he tells him everything. Dr. Everton feels sorry for the poor kid,
but he's not a psychiatrist. Still, he feels like he should help.
"Listen kid, here's my number. I get off from work at five every day, if you need to talk,
just give me a call. Okay?" he says as he gives his card to Jim.
"Thanks Doctor." Jim says as he takes the card.
"No problem" the lion says, smiling at James.
There's a few seconds of silence as the two lions stare at each other.
Dr. Everton clears his throat, "Do you have any hobbies?" he says as he writes down a few things on a chart.
"I used to do kickboxing, but I stopped when sprained my ankle." Jim says, he's obviously lying about his ankle.
"Ah, well then. You can join me tomorrow for training then." he says as he puts down the notepad.
"I don't think..." Jim starts, but the doctor interrupts him.
"I'm not taking no for an answer. You need something to channel that anger of yours" he says.
"Fine, I'll come to the ring then." Jim says, as he stands up. After the doctor gives Jim his note, he says goodbye and leaves for home.
He's not too enthusiastic about training with the doctor, but he doesn't have much of a choice. Talking to an older male really helped a lot, it felt like the doctor filled the gap that his father should have filled.
"I just hope he doesn't get tired of me... to quick" Jim thinks as he enters his house...
