Heart Of A Gunslinger
#20 of Poetry
Originally started as a poem about myself and my own personal failings, but as I don't like to write about me, it morphed into a little story about a gunfighter/gangster/insert-violent-criminal-here as they describe their life and warn the reader to avoid their ways.
Heart Of A Gunslinger
(06/16/2018)
What a glorious life,
It has often been said,
Living free as a bird,
But the mountain of dead,
Haunt me at night,
So I rarely sleep,
I toss and I turn,
And some nights I weep,
Stealing and killing,
Blood curdling shout,
It's not how I thought,
My life would turn out,
Am I able to change?
Or is this who I am?
My character flaws,
The Almighty's plan?
A deep seeded rage,
With apathy's touch,
Infecting my soul,
The pain is too much,
I know nothing else,
But hate what I am,
I don't want to be,
A devilish man,
But I do not know,
If I can become,
Someone to believe in,
I'm the prodigal son,
But life is too short,
To fix my mistakes,
So please hear me out,
For all of your sakes,
I know I have lied,
But these words are true,
I live by the gun,
And I'll die by it too,
So please turn around,
Before it's too late,
A life you can live,
Without sharing my fate.
