An emerald green snout poked out of the dark cave, the nostrils flaring with a quiet whoosh of air. They grew small again, and curls of smoke rose from them as the dragon exhaled and slowly stepped from his cave. Catlike, pale yellow eyes swiveled. A deep rumble came from somewhere around his chest area. He turned his head, silver horns glinting in the sunlight, and listening to a far-off rumbling, so low that only dragons could hear it. He knew that call, and from the pitch, he could even tell who made it. It was a female named Greya, and she was in season. The green dragon savored the feelings her call evoked in him. He stretched luxuriously, feeling his sheath grow fuller. He would go to her, but not right away. He needed food for the upcoming encounter, as well as an offering to the female. Muscles bunched and relaxed under smooth green scales as he walked up the hill. He reached the top and spread his leathery, pale blue wings. Neck arching and black claws digging into the soil between the rocks, the creature roared, broadcasting his name to the advertising female: Sharrl. He then folded his wings and crouched close to the ground. His eyes whirled again before he leaped up into the air, spread his wings with a snap, and flew off to the north.
Sharrl soared through the clear blue sky, following a scent he knew well. He knew he risked getting caught by humans if he hunted their livestock, but he needed a fast meal. His wings carried him over rolling hills toward the mountains. Humans preferred to make their smaller settlements in or around mountains and forests, knowing that large predators like dragons had less maneuverability in those kinds of environments. Sharrl was well aware of that, however, his hunger and eagerness to mate drove him to sacrifice safety for speed. He flew farther into the mountains before spotting his prey in a lush green valley. He landed on a rocky outcrop on one side of the valley so he could observe the unsuspecting animals below.
The dragon's pale yellow eyes swept the valley below his rocky perch. His catlike pupils contracted to narrow black slits as he peered down at the herd of grazing cattle. The breeze carried the musky, warm scent of the animals to him; he took a breath and then snorted softly, the smoky ghost of a hidden flame trailing off behind him. His lips curled, revealing stained yellow fangs. A few threads of thick saliva hung from his mouth. The sun beat down on the dragon's green scales, and his stomach rumbled. With a toss of his silver-horned head, Sharrl leaped off of the ground and spread his pale blue wings with an airy clap. He flew halfway to the cattle before they panicked and stampeded toward the opposite end of the valley. Bovine hooves threw up clods of dirt and grass, and the thundering of the herd filled their pursuer's ears. The emerald predator swooped and reached out a razor-taloned forefoot. A steer bellowed as the dragon's claws punctured its hide, and the rest of the herd ran. The dragon stood next to his kill; he could not carry a full-grown steer to a more secluded place. He mantled his wings over his meal and bent his head down toward it. As he ripped into the soft flesh of the belly, hot, salty blood filled his mouth.
Sharrl glutted himself on the steer. He decided to take a short rest before hunting down another animal to give to the female he planned to visit. The emerald green dragon ambled across the valley toward a stand of smaller trees at the edge of the surrounding forest. He felt too lazy and too heavy to fly and find a better sleeping spot, but he figured that he would be safe in the shaded spot with his own green scales to camouflage him among the green bushes under the trees.
Barely two hours later, harsh noises intruded on the dragon's sleep where he lay concealed in the shadows. He opened one yellow eye and quieted his breathing, his entire body tensing up at perceived danger. He recognized the sounds of men. His forefeet clenched reflexively and he slowly lifted his head up and peered through an open space between two shrubs. A loud shout reached his ears and he knew one of them had discovered him. With a roar, Sharrl burst out of his cover and faced his opponents. More than a dozen men with sickles, swords, and axes ran toward him. The dragon took a breath and then exhaled, spraying red and orange flame on the menacing, yelling crowd. Some of the men screamed as the fire hit them and ignited their dusty clothes. They fell to the ground, writhing and rolling upon the grass. The scent of burning hair and flesh permeated the air. Others who escaped the flame continued on toward the dragon, but he had fled the bushes and made it back into the valley where he leaped into the air and flew off. The green dragon knew that he had only a slim chance of winning a fight against a group of men with weapons.
Sharrl flew southwest, the direction from which the female's mating call had originated. He remembered Greya from an encounter not less than ten summers ago. He had been a yearling then, just out of his mother's nest and on his own. His search for a territory of his own had taken him into Greya's domain. She was just a little older than him, perhaps a year or two, and thus had not been ready to take a mate. Sharrl had stumbled into her cave and she had quickly run him off; males usually could not stand up to the larger females. The green dragon recalled being terrified at the time, but now her call and his own urge to mate made him savor the memory of the big copper dragoness.
The cool wind caressed Sharrl's muzzle as he flew on, now above the foothills and heading toward rockier terrain. A grove of stunted trees passed below him, and just beyond the edge of them, he spotted a small herd of deer. A good chunk off of one of them would provide the perfect offering to the calling female, so without a moment's hesitation, Sharrl folded his wings and went into a dive. His stoop surpassed that of any bird of prey's, both for speed and accuracy. The herd hardly knew what descended upon them before the dragon unfurled his wings and lodged the talons of his forefeet into the back of a fat doe, snapping her spine. He glided on, dragging the deer with him to help lessen his momentum. He soon steadied out and let go of his prey, then landed and stalked back to the carcass. Sharrl inspected it for a moment before taking a bite out of the shoulder for himself. Then, he took one of the hindlegs into his powerful jaws and wrenched the haunch away from the body with a wet popping sound. He felt certain that this treat would satisfy Greya.
Sharrl lifted his head and pricked his ears, listening. The dragoness sent out her call again, the vibrations traveling up the green dragon's feet and sending pleasurable sensations coarsing through his body. His sheath started to bulge again with the anticipation, and the dark pink tip of his cock just barely poked out of it. He then sent out an answering bugle, letting Greya know he heard her and was on his way. With the chunk of meat clutched in his foreclaws, Sharrl pushed off from the ground using his powerful back legs; the jump afforded him just enough height to spread his pale blue wings and begin his flight to the lair of the waiting dragoness. His journey seemed to pass by even more quickly than the ground beneath him. He pinpointed the place where Greya made her home. He circled in the air, slowly descending toward the large cave below him.
The deep rumbling reverberated again as Sharrl landed and folded his leathery wings. He dropped the deer haunch onto the pebble-strewn ground. He turned his head and tilted it, listening, his eyes dilating and nostrils quivering. He cautiously stepped into the dim cave before him and gave an answering purr into the space beyond the entrance. A shuffling sound reached his ears followed by a low growl. The scent of smoke wafted through the cave, and the green dragon backed out just before a forefoot swiped at the space his shoulder had occupied. He stood just beyond the meat he had brought, his head lowered and wings spread slightly. The dragoness strode out of the cave, her maroon eyes fixed on her suitor. Her copper scales and black horns glinted in the sunlight as she stretched out her neck, towering over the emerald male, and she bellowed. Sharrl did not flinch. Greya bent her head toward the deer meat, which dripped with blood, and saliva fell from her jaws. She opened her mouth and tore at the offered meal, but kept her eyes always on the green intruder. He relaxed a little as she ate, venturing to croon softly at her and swish his tail in an appeasing manner. The copper dragoness straightened up from the remains of the deer and gazed at him. She then stretched out her neck to give him a swift nuzzle on his snout and immediately launched herself into the air. The male followed, eager to begin the mating flight.
Greya's copper body flashed in the sunlight, and Sharrl could see her tail swish with an exaggerated--and seductive--movement. He pumped his wings hard, intent on catching up to the dragoness that soared ever higher and just beyond his reach. His need rose as well, the vigorous chase and the glimpses of Greya's sex adding to his passion. The green dragon's sheath felt tight around his thick member as it became engorged and slid out into the open. The object of his desire kept flying on, though she seemed to be slowing. Sharrl rumbled with relief; he could only fly so high before the air got too thin for him to get enough oxygen.
The copper beauty before him slowed down even more, then executed a graceful roll at the top of her trajectory. By then, Sharrl had made it to her and flew just above her. He looked down at Greya, admiring her underbelly, which held more of a golden sheen than her main color. Her sex glistened with her own arousal, and the green dragon caught a whiff of her intoxicating scent. He let himself drop onto her before she completed another roll; he caught her in his wings, holding her close in a leathery embrace. Greya purred at him and nuzzled his snout. Sharrl gave her a tender lick on her neck before his throbbing cock found her warm opening. The female's purr turned into a deep draconic moan of ecstasy. Her tight sex engulfed Sharrl's hard cock and as he began to thrust, they both felt waves of pleasure washing over their bodies. Their plummet heightened their passion, the rushing wind like a cool caress from their muzzles to their tails.
Sharrl's wings squeezed Greya more tightly than before, and he twined his tail with hers. His length hardened more and throbbed within her. The dragoness writhed against him, the walls of her pulsing sex rubbing against all the right spots on his cock. Sharrl added his own moans to hers, increasing the rhythm and force of his thrusts. The female pushed back against him just as eagerly, her movements becoming more frenzied with her mounting passion. Her lover licked her neck again, creating a tingling sensation beneath her scales that drove her over the edge. Greya let out a roar of unrestrained pleasure as she reached her peak, her sex clenching and twitching around Sharrl's member. Her orgasm set off Sharrl's, and he bugled his passion to the world as his hot seed filled the dragoness he held so closely.
Their lust sated, both dragons loosened their hold on each other. Sharrl's cock slipped out of Greya's sex, and they panted as they still fell. Several unexperienced young dragons met their death right after a mating flight, due to exhaustion or lack of caution, usually both. However, both Sharrl and Greya became aware of the ground rushing to meet them before it was too late; they separated completely and spread their wings, catching a current of air that bore them above the rocky terrain. They glided down to the female's cave with minimal effort, and Sharrl followed her in, dragging his feet a bit. Inside, they curled up together, a complicated heap of entwined limbs, and slept.
