Malcolm wasn't looking forward to starting at college. The University of Beldover was not his first choice. However, the arrival of a new Fox professor might just liven things up.

Chapter Eighteen to follow soon...

I followed Lachlan back to the locker room once we had finished our drinks.

"What number are you?" he asked.

"Seven," I replied, placing my fob to my locker.

"How lucky, I'm nine," Lachlan chuckled as he unlocked his.

I was about to respond but a Doberman walked in with a sports bag and unlocked the locker behind me. Instead, I watched out of the corner of my eye as Lachlan turned slightly as he shed his jeans, exposing his muscular behind. I tried not to be too transfixed as I reached into my locker to pull out my swimsuit.

Lachlan's butt disappeared as he pulled his black speedos back on. I usually hated the feeling of putting damp swimwear on, but Lachlan didn't seem bothered as he removed his shirt, revealing his toned chest and tattoos again.

I pulled my swimwear out of my bag, which compared to Lachlan's did not look as sexy or form-fitting. They were a pair of swimming shorts I had owned since I was fourteen. I wasn't sure if Lachlan was watching or not, but I pulled my shirt off before removing my jeans. I was now standing in my underwear in front of him. I was aware that the Doberman was still standing behind me, so I didn't want to make my show too obvious, but I angled my butt in Lachlan's direction before I slowly eased my briefs down and pulled on my swimwear.

I turned back to face him. Lachlan was half-glancing in my direction, but I thought I could see a hint of appreciation in his eyes.

"Ready?" he asked.

I nodded and followed him through the locker room and out of a different exit that led straight towards the pool.

"Shall we swim first?" Lachlan asked.

I nodded, but inside I was waiting for someone to pinch me.

Man, I couldn't wait to tell Hudson about this very vivid dream I was having. I knew what his reaction would be; dude, you're fantasising about Foxybutt by a pool?

Lachlan reached the side of the pool and gracefully eased himself in. He smiled and gestured for me to follow. I slid in (a little less gracefully) and submerged myself.

The water temperature told me this was definitely not a dream.

"Do you want to swim a few laps, go in the sauna and then back in the pool?" Lachlan suggested as he placed his goggles over his head.

"Sounds good," I replied, realising my tail was thrashing in the water.

"We'll take it slow," Lachlan said. "Swim just behind me and touch my hind-paw if you get into trouble."

"Damn, I didn't bring any goggles," I sighed.

"Here."

Lachlan removed his goggles and handed them to me.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"I can open my eyes underwater, it's no problem," he chuckled.

I put his goggles over my eyes and readied myself next to him. Lachlan pushed off and I swam after him. I hadn't swum in quite some time, but I dipped my head in the water and tried propelling myself along. Up head, I could see Lachlan's butt flexing again as the fox swam. I was so captivated for a second that I forgot to swim and realised I was sinking. I tried paddling forwards but I swallowed a muzzle full of water.

I surfaced and began coughing.

"Are you okay?" Lachlan called.

"Yeah, just being a klutz," I replied.

Lachlan reached out, gently took hold of my arm and pulled me over to the side.

"Here, catch your breath for a moment. You might still be feeling weary from yesterday," he said.

The adrenaline rush I'd been experiencing since I had formulated my plan had kept me distracted from yesterday's feelings, but I knew underneath I was probably still fatigued.

"Come under here," Lachlan said, lifting up a rope in the water and leading me into another lane. "It's okay, we're out of the way and in water where we can touch the bottom."

He gave my arm a reassuring squeeze.

"I can usually swim properly," I said, feeling embarrassed. "Can we try more laps when I feel better?"

"Of course we can," Lachlan chuckled.

I waited a minute and then gestured to Lachlan to show I was ready. He lifted up the string and we began swimming down the lane again. I tried not to be distracted by Lachlan's butt although the sight was hard to resist. I followed the fox up and down the pool twice before my arms and legs began to tire.

I reached out and gently tapped his hind-paw. Lachlan nodded to me and lifted up the rope for me to swim under.

"Wow, that was quite a workout," I panted.

"Swimming is good, it exercises pretty much every muscle in your body. Shall we investigate the sauna?" he suggested.

I nodded and Lachlan led me to the side of the pool.

"After you," he smiled and I hauled myself out.

My swim shorts had collected a lot of water and it splashed over the side of the pool. Lachlan gracefully pulled himself out and I noticed his swimwear didn't cause the same deluge.

"I need to get a pair of those," I laughed.

"You should, they'd look good on you," Lachlan replied with a smile, which was quickly replaced by a look of alarm as if he had said too much.

His feeling of embarrassment only endeared him to me more as I could relate to it.

"Then I'll do just that," I said, wagging my tail.

Lachlan smiled back and gestured for me to follow him. We walked side by the side around the pool.

"You can get a towel from here," Lachlan said, gesturing to a desk.

"I left mine in my locker," I laughed, feeling more at ease than embarrassed.

"It's no matter if you did," Lachlan grinned. "Here, I'll get one for you."

Lachlan walked over to the desk, leaned over and retrieved one for me.

"Thanks," I said.

I followed him to an alcove beside the pool where the sauna entrance was. Lachlan placed his towel down on a bench and opened the door. A wave of heat hit me.

"After you sir," he said.

I set my towel down next to Lachlan's with the goggles on top and walked inside. The last time I had gone to a sauna I remembered it being hot, claustrophobic and packed with other (mostly older) people. This one was indeed hot inside, but fairly roomy and empty.

Lachlan sat on one of the wooden benches and patted the spot next to him. I sat down.

"Goodness, it's hot in here," I breathed.

"It's good to sit in here for a second, and then jump back in the pool," Lachlan explained. "Then you can appreciate the coolness of the water. There is a hot tub though if this is too hot."

"That's good to know," I said, fanning myself with my paw. "This is the downside of being a canine with long fur. How do you cope with it?"

"I had the same problem in the military," Lachlan chuckled. "Although a sauna is preferable to a desert."

"I'd call them the same thing," I joked and Lachlan laughed. "I like it when those dimples appear in your muzzle," I mused out loud.

"Oh, heh," Lachlan said, and I could see the muscular fox looked bashful. "I'm glad you do."

I sat in silence and watched Lachlan for a moment. He looked so manly and dashing leaning back against the wooden bench with his toned chest, tattoos and tight swimwear on display. His hind-paws were crossed and his muzzle was angled up slightly. I wondered whether I should take hold of his paw or try kissing his cheek.

No, that's too much and too soon.

But then again, it felt like a good opportunity. I forced myself to pluck up the courage but the door to the sauna opened and one of the wolves from the gym stepped inside. Lachlan nodded a greeting to him, but the atmosphere didn't feel the same with someone else sitting with us.

"Shall we go to the hot tub?" I suggested.

"That's a good idea," Lachlan replied.

We stood to leave and I felt the coldness of the outside air hit me. I could see the hot tub next to the pool and I hurried along to it.

"We're lucky it's empty," Lachlan said as we climbed in.

The fox sat down in the same regal position and I sighed to myself; if we were on our own and the pool behind us didn't have people in it I would have kissed him. Instead, I sat there in silence and admired the sight of him. Lachlan glanced over and smiled.

Damn, those dimples make me want to melt.

"Thank you for telling me about this place," I said.

"Thank you for coming," Lachlan replied. "It's nice to be able to share my routine with someone."

I opened my mouth to reply but a lynx climbed into the hot tub.

"Pool?" Lachlan suggested with a wink and I nodded.

We climbed out and slid back into the swimming pool.

"Argh, this is cold," I said, shivering in the water.

"Heh, I thought you'd say that," Lachlan chuckled. "Here, swim with me. We'll warm up together."

I followed Lachlan as the fox pushed off to swim a lap. We swam to one end of the pool and then back.

"Feeling better?" he asked as we reached the other end.

"Yes," I replied, shooting Lachlan a smile.

Part of me was wondering what else we could do, but I just enjoyed floating in the water next to him. I started drifting away and Lachlan reached out to gently pull me back closer.

"You off somewhere?" he grinned.

"No, I don't want to leave," I replied.

"Well I'm glad to hear that."

Lachlan began floating on his back and I copied him. I was surprised that someone that toned could float with ease, but somehow he managed it. I began to drift away, but Lachlan reached out and took hold of my paw to gently pull me back. We floated in silence for a moment, paw in paw. In any other circumstance I would have shied away at the thought of holding another guy's paw in public, but floating around in the water with a muscular fox beside me meant I couldn't care less.

"I suppose we'd better go and get dry in a minute," Lachlan sighed.

"I wish we could stay in here," I sighed.

"How about another drink before we leave?" the fox suggested.

"That sounds perfect," I grinned. I steadied myself and swam towards the steps with Lachlan beside me.

We climbed out and made our way back to the locker room.

"Don't forget your towel and the goggles," Lachlan chuckled as we passed the sauna.

I handed Lachlan his towel and goggles before scooping mine up and we continued walking.

"It's best we shower first, get rid of the chlorine smell," Lachlan said.

There was a row of showers next to the men's locker room with shampoo dispensers and I wondered if I should take my swimsuit off, but Lachlan was still wearing his as he turned one of the shower heads on. I took the shower next to him and surreptitiously watched as the fox gently smoothed shampoo into his fur. He took some suds in his paw and reached down the front of his swimwear. The warm water was also making Lachlan's speedo grow all the more tight around his butt.

The sight made me feel like I was about to get hard, but I knew this wasn't the best place to openly display that.

You know what they say about locker room showers.

"Shampoo?" Lachlan offered and I was distracted from my thoughts.

I smiled and began soaping myself up before rinsing the suds off. Lachlan shut his water off and I did the same.

"Here you go," he grinned, handing me my towel.

I shook myself dry and was aware of how my fur was now sticking out at funny angles. I smoothed it down and began drying myself as we walked to our lockers.

There were more people in the locker room so I decided not to make it obvious I was watching Lachlan, but I still snuck glances out of the corner of my eye as the fox shed his swimsuit and wrapped them in his towel. His tail flicked up slightly, giving me a clear view of his muscular rump before they disappeared into his jeans.

I tugged off my swimsuit, stuffed it into my gym bag and pulled my clothes on. My fur was a little damp, but as Lachlan was already dressed I wanted to join him.

"There's no need to rush," he grinned.

"Oh, heh, I'm done now anyway," I said, picking up my gym bag.

"Excellent, now let's go for a last drink."

We walked out of the locker room together. Lachlan showed me the chute to put dirty towels and then we made our way back to the bar.

"So, what will it be this time?" Lachlan asked, handing me a menu.

I looked down the options.

"A caramel iced coffee sounds good," I said.

"I'll have one of those too," Lachlan grinned.

"I'm glad you say that, as I sometimes pick out these drinks and wonder if I'm with someone older they would find the choice immature," I chuckled nervously.

"I don't find it immature, it's on the menu for a reason," Lachlan replied.

"That's fair," I replied.

"Please don't ever worry about what I think," he continued, splaying his ears slightly. "I don't want you to feel anxious around me of all people. I hope you don't feel that way."

"Oh, not at all, you're completely fine," I said, trying to sound reassuring. "Honestly, I had a wonderful time today."

"I'm glad to hear that," Lachlan said, and I noticed his tail was beating against his chair slightly. "And yes, you're not the only one with that problem," he added with a laugh, pointing at his tail.

The waitress from earlier came over to take our orders and Lachlan said he'd settle the bill again.

The pool was emptying and the sun outside was starting to set. I turned back to Lachlan who was also gazing out of the window; his muzzle was angled in the regal position again.

We sat in silence, but it didn't feel at all awkward. It felt like two men enjoying each other's company but there was a thought nagging at my mind and I wanted to ask it.

Go on, just do it.

"Is this a date?" I asked cautiously.

"Would you like it to be one?" Lachlan replied with a smile.

"Um, I guess," I said, splaying my ears.

"Then a date it is," Lachlan chuckled.

"It's just that I wondered if it was way too soon for an _actual_date, plus I never thought of gyms or pools as a location for a date," I continued.

"Well, you could argue that dates don't have to be conventional. Going out for dinner or seeing a movie is great, but everyone does that, and it's up to you how fast or slow you want to take it," Lachlan reasoned. "If you don't want it to be a date, it doesn't have to be. If you want to see it that way, it's not anyone's business to judge you."

"In that case, I certainly want this to be a date," I grinned.

"Happy first date," Lachlan said, fixing me a smile.

"I mean, shouldn't we be asking questions like what hobbies do we have, how old are you, or if we want cubs?" I asked.

"Well, it's not like we're going to have cubs by mistake," Lachlan laughed. "I'm thirty, I guess it's safer to ask for a man's age rather than a woman's. As for hobbies and all those topics, shall we discover that as we go along, if you want to do more that is?"

I mulled Lachlan's words over.

"I'm sorry, this is kind of surreal for me," I said, but before I could add more the waitress reappeared with our drinks.

"Well, it's not every day you go to a sports club with a history lecturer," Lachlan reasoned. "But you had fun?"

"I have," I smiled before another question crossed my mind. "Have you done this before?" I asked.

"Never," Lachlan grinned. "And I intend to make this both the first and last time I meet a nice guy here."

"That makes me feel happy, honestly," I replied.

We sat in silence again as we sipped our drinks.

"Do they do food here?" I asked.

"They do, but not what I'd call a proper meal," Lachlan replied. "We could always go and find something to eat elsewhere?"

I hesitated. I knew I didn't have to back for a specific time, but the thought of getting back late and facing questions from Aunt Ruth made me anxious.

Why couldn't I have lived in a student house?

"Not keen on that?" Lachlan asked.

"No, I'd love it, it's just," I paused, wondering what to say.

"Your auntie would wonder where you've gone," Lachlan filled in for me.

"Yes," I sighed. "I mean, she doesn't control me or anything."

"It's okay, I understand," Lachlan said.

I couldn't tell if the fox was disappointed or not, but he fixed me a reassuring smile which eased my concern.

"We should do that though, I'd like it," I offered.

"In that case, your new special assignment is to think of an idea of what we could do next," Lachlan said. "Although I know of a few nice places around."

"In Beldover?"

"I was thinking where I live. I'm over in Durlington Green," Lachlan explained.

I knew Durlington Green was a smart little town just west of Beldover.

"I'd like that," I grinned.

"Excellent, well I know of a place I think you might like."

We finished our drinks but my heart was starting to feel heavy.

"I'll go and settle up," Lachlan said as he got up to walk to the front desk.

I gathered my belongings and followed him.

"Thank you," I said, wagging my tail. "I would love to do all this again."

"We shall," Lachlan replied as we began walking to the main entrance. "As I say, working out is more fun as a pair."

It was almost fully dark outside as we began walking to our cars and heavy feeling in my heart was growing worse.

"I wish this didn't have to end," I sighed.

"Why does it have to end?" Lachlan replied. "This is only the beginning Malcolm."

"I hope so," I said, wagging my tail.

"Here," Lachlan said, taking out his phone.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Well, it's customary to share numbers if you consider this a date, is it not?" he replied with a gentle laugh.

"Oh heh, sure," I said, feeling my tail wag shyly. "No one has ever asked for my number like that before."

I knew I sounded like a girl from a romance movie, but the warm feeling in my stomach stopped me from caring. I gave him my number and Lachlan texted me his. In the last of the evening light I could see the fox fixing me his smile. I wondered if I should lean over and kiss his muzzle.

No, save it for a better location.

I wondered if Lachlan was thinking the same thing. Instead, he reached out and took hold of both of my paws.

"Be safe when you get home," he said, giving them both a gentle squeeze. "And let me know when you arrive."

"I will," I grinned.

Lachlan gave my paws another squeeze before pulling me into a hug.

"I'll see you later, I promise," he said softly, giving me a quick nuzzle between the ears.

The scent of vulpine, aftershave and chlorine filled my nose. Normally it's a scent that some people would find a turn off, but I drank it in.

"See you later," I whispered back.

Lachlan gave me another tight hug before releasing me.

"Be safe," he repeated.

With that, we turned and walked back to our cars. Lachlan must have parked his in another part of the carpark, owing to the fact I didn't see his Audi earlier and I felt a pang of sadness as I noticed he was walking in the opposite direction to me.

I unlocked my car, climbed in and then I pumped my fist as an idiot grin spread across my muzzle.
