A new place to live - Chapter 2: An evening of revelation
#3 of A new place to live
"_Oh my god ! What should I do ? Tell him that i'm...? "No ! Definitely not ! I don't even know what he thinks about this. Maybe I should try to start here ? Try to find out what he thinks ? Probably, but it's too early. And if it starts again like in France ?" Chris was here, but..." _
Léo sighed as his ears fell.
"I haven't even know him for twenty four hours. I don't even know if I really like him. Ok I think he's gorgeous. He's eyes are perfect, he's tall, muscular but not too much, and he looks very kind. But I don't anything more than that. Yeah, I just have to wait."
Leo was talking to himself in his bathroom, thinking he had finally found the answers to all the questions that tortured him.
But he knew very well what was going on; he was slowly falling in love.
Leo smiled as he looked at himself in the bathroom mirror, when there was a knock at the door and a voice outside his bedroom startled him.
"Hurry up Leo, where gonna be late. Come on, don't keep them waiting."
"I'm comming." Léo quickly took his blue jacket and left his room.
They were the first to arrive at the university entrance, but soon joined by Théo and Clara.
"So how was your first day ?" Clara asked as they walked to meet Sacha.
"Pretty fine." Chris replies "We met our teachers and they explained their program to us."
"And got a huge amount of books needed for the first year." Leo sighed.
"Don't worry little wolf, there's a lot less for the next few years. And I could lend you mine." Clara smiled at Leo.
"Yours ? Are you talking about the ones i gave you this year ?" Theo chuckled.
"Well... Yes ?! You don't need them anymore. Right ?"
"Wait." Leo stopped to regard the husky before starting to walk again. "Theo, are you studying business?"
"Yes, it's my third year."
"Oh, we might be together for this présentation." He smiled.
"I know Mr. Blake accepts pairs requests. Prove yourself in the firsts weeks, and it will not be hard to convince him."
"I would like to be able to work with you."
"La vie est bien faite, non ?" Chris chuckled.
"Vas te faire voir Chris..." He chuckled with him.
"Hey, I forbid you to speak French. I want to know what you said." Clara said, raising her tone.
Chris, Léo, and Théo laughed when they heard Clara.
They ended up arriving in the middle of a square where Sacha was waiting for them. Theo introduced Chris to him and they left in the direction of the restaurant where Sacha had made a reservation earlier. The tiger commented that the restaurant specialized in burger but hade a wide menu.
Once they arrived, they were greeted by a ginger cat who recognized Sacha,Théo, and Clara. "Hello, it's been a while since we didn't see you." The cat smiled.
"Yes, they went back to their family for the summer and I didn't want to come alone." Sacha answers.
"I understand. Glad to see you again." The waiter replied, then guided them to a rectangular table next to a window. Clara and Sacha sat down first on the red bench, followed by Theo, who sat down beside the window in front of Clara.
"Je te laisse t'asseoir à côté de ton prince charmant ?" Chris snickered and took the sit a the end of the table, frustrating Clara who didn't understand what he'd just said.
Leo didn't even bother to answer and sat down on the bench next to Theo. Once they were all seated, the waiter brought them the menus.
"Seeing that you seem like you want to talk, talk about yourself Chris !" Clara said crossing her arms and raising an arch eyebrown savoring her revenge.
"You're incorrigible Clara..." Théo sighed.
"Well, I'm twenty one. I went into sports studies with the goal to become a coach. Also, I plan to join a sports club at the university, but don't know which one yet. Our parents are both shiba and my father works as a lawyer."
"Our !?" Unfortunately, Chris realized what he'd just said too late.
"Wait, I don't understand. You say 'our' but your parents are both shiba. And little wolf is... a wolf." She stopped and looked at Léo who had crossed his arms on the table and put his head down.
"I was wrong, I meant 'my'" Chris quickly said, trying to repair his mistake.
"Chris, that''s a mistake no make..." They said softly and looked at Léo "Leo, are you...?"
"Adopted ? Yes, twice. Please, don't laugh." His voice muffled in his arms.
"If people are laughing at that, they're just real assholes." Sacha said, reassuringly, while Theo touched is shoulder with a gentle paw.
"Sacha is right, it's not funny. And I think it takes courage to admit it yourself." Theo said quietly while.
Chris smiled, happy to see that Leo has found good friends.
"Thanks" Leo said, lifting his head.
"Okay, back to Chris. Why did you choose sports study ? that's not common." Clara asks, trying to relax the atmosphere.
"I always loved sports." He shrugged "I have played a lot since I was young. Soccer, Basketball, Handball, Volleyball... I find them all interesting. But now, I want to try American football."
"If you're not afraid of aches and pain, I'd love to teach you the basics. It's a really interesting sport." Sacha replied.
"As long you're enough masochist to appreciate it." Theo chuckled.
"You're right, stay in the handball club. You'll be completely useless to us anyway." Sacha chuckled in turn.
Léo laughed along with is new friends, anb allowed himself to forget the ankwardness that just happened.
"With pleasure. How long have you playing ?" Chris replied.
Sacha thought for a moment "Twelve years now, and five years in the college club."
"Five years ? What's taking so long ?" Léo asked, impressed.
"Médical studies. I just started my fifth year, and there are four more after this one. I will be halfway at the end of this semester."
"He's the oldest among us, so you can call him 'Dad' if you want." Theo chuckled again.
"THAT's a good idéa !" Clara exclaimed.
"If you dare to call me that, I'll make you say 'uncle' !" Sacha told Clara, quickly wrapping his arm around her and hugging her with enough force to hold her back.
"Ok ok, you win this round."
Sacha smirked and released her.
"And you Léo, do you play any sports ?" Theo asked him.
"I used to play tennis. I would love to continue but I can't."
"Why ?"
"I had an accident four years ago. I broke my left collarbone and I can't make any sudden movements or carry too much weight."
"Damn, I hope I didn't hurt you this morning."
"Weird. You should have normal use of your shoulder after a few months of rehabilitation. Leo, what really happened to you ?" Sacha asked him, looking him straight in the eyes.
Leo squirmed. "You're right... Sorry, but I can't tell you that right now."
The tiger was embarassed " I see. That's okay. Don't forget we're here if you want to speak to someone." Sacha said quickly.
"Come on, don't worry about that." Theo smiled while rubbing Leo's head with his paw.
Just then, the waiter came back to take their order.
"Would you like to start with drinks ?" The cat asked politely.
"I think we're gonna take three beers as usual." Sacha told the waiter who nodded before turning to Chris and Leo.
"We're gonna take the same thing, you ok with that Leo ?" C
Leo nodded.
"I'm sorry, but I need to see your I.D. before serving you."
"Yes of course." They answered at the same time, handing their passports.
The waiter quickly returned Chris's but lingered a bit longer on Leo's.
"I'm sorry again, but the drinking age is twenty-one here." He said, giving back his passport to Leo.
"I completely forgot this difference with France, I'm sorry. I will take an iced tea."
"In that case, I'm gonna take the same thing." Chris said to the waiter, who nodded again.
"Alright, I bring this to you. Thanks for your understanding." He said before walking away.
"Chris, you didn't have to..."
"It's okay, I'm not gonna drink a beer if my best friend can't." He smiled.
"Léo, you're not twenty-one ?" Clara asked.
"No, i'm twenty."
"When is your birthday ?"
"December 14th."
"It's coming soon ! We will have to celebrate ! Party !" Clara smiled.
Leo just smiled, while the others seemed to like the idea.
The waiter returned quickly to bring them their drinks, and took their order before leaving for the kitchen.
"Did you have a girlfriend when you're in France?" Clara asked them, still curious.
"I had two. The first lasted a couples of months. I must have been..." He thinks for a moment. "sixteen years old ? I stayed a lot longer with the second, but we separated last year. Which is not bad considering that we're here now. " He smiled and Clara turned to Leo.
"And you little wolf, did you have a girlfriend ?"
"No, I never had one" He said while scratching his neck with his paw.
"What are you waiting for ?" Clara asks him. "Cute as you are, you shouldn't have problem finding one. I'm sure some have even spotted you already."
"I'm just waiting to find the right one." He said nervously.
"J'ai l'impression que tu as déjà trouver le bon" Chris chuckled.
"Ta gueule..." Léo barked, blushing slightly.
"Uuuum Chris said something naughty." Sacha chuckled in a sing-song voice.
"D-DO YOU UNDERSTAND FRENCH?" Leo suddenly turned to him, panicked.
"Just few words I learned on internet, and "ta gueule" is one of them."
Leo huffed to calm down.
"I don't know what Chris told you, but it seemed embarrassing." Sacha snickered again.
"And what did Leo said to Chris then ?" Clara asked, bewildered.
"Something like <shut up> but a lot less polite..."
"Chris, I want to know what you said !" Clara turning to the shiba.
"Sorry princess, but it was private..." Chris laughed.
"Léo." Said Clara in an overly sweet tone. "I know you're more kind than him ! Tell me what he said ! Pleeeeeease." She batted ere eyelashes, making her best puppy eyes. It looked weird on a panthere.
"It was really private, sorry Clara. Don't be mad."
Clara slumped onto the table moaning in despair, and covered her eyes theatrically.
"I wonder what he could have said to you to make you blush." Theo mused, making Leo blush a little more.
"So, I hereby order you to adress me as Princess for now on when you speak to me !" Clara exlcaimed, jumping up energetically.
"That's fits Princss." Chris laughed as the waiter brought them their orders.
"Leo ?" Sacha looked at him. "I'm surprised Clara hasn't asked you that question yet. Why did you choose to study business ?"
"She asked me this afternoon, but after you left. When I was in France, I had an introduction to business and I liked it. Seemed like a good idea to continue." He answered before starting the burger he ordered.
"I hope you'll continue to like it." Sacha smiled, as he took a huge bite of his burger.
"I hope so to."
"Princess and Sacha, why did you choose to study business and medicine ?" Chris asked.
"My parents have their own store for over fifteen years. They met at the same high school." She shrugged. "They insisted that I follow the same studies as them. I'm lucky I like it." She just smiled and then looked to the tiger to continue.
"I don't know if it's a good idea for me to say this." Sacha sighed, then continued. "A friend died of an illness that the doctors still can't cure. I swore to myself to find a cure."
"Shit... I'm sorry" Chris said to him.
"It's okay. It was ten years ago. I had time to do my mourning, no need to be upset."
The new friends continued their meal and finished a little later in the evening.
After paying, Sacha and the others left the restaurant. "Ok. So, I'll leave you here." Sacha said.
"Aren't you coming with us ?" Leo asked him.
"No, my parents live in the next town, I don't sleep at the university." He answered and took out his car keys.
"Oh, okay. Thanks for the meal and see you next time." Sacha nodded in response and they parted. They heard Sacha's car coming out of the parking, as the group left for the university.
"Tell me, you two. Where are your dorm rooms located ?" Theo asked they.
Chris thought for a moment. "We are both on the second floor, I'm in the room 237 and Leo is in 254." Leo nodded.
"Okay, don't hesitate to come by if you want. I'm on the first floor in 183." Theo smiled.
"We'll remember that." Leo answered with a smile.
"And you Princesse, where are you ?" Chris asked her.
"On the other side of the campus. Room 013 in the girls' dormitory. But don't bother me for trivial issues." She chuckled, waving a paw.
"Alright we'll remember that, Princess." The dog chuckled in turn as they walk.
"Leo, I have something to ask you." Théo turned to him. "Are you--"
Leo's heart suddenly stopped. Feeling like even time itself stopped. How could hi already know ?
It doesn't matter. Everything he had been thinking about before dinner. All the efforts he had made to be as discreet as possible during the meal. It was all reduced to dust now. It only remained for him to admit it himself, it would be better this way.
"Yes Théo, I'm--" Léo interrupted him before being interrupted at his turn, as Chris looked on in fear for his friend.
"Leo ! Give me time to finish my sentence before giving an answer !" He sighed and put his paws on his shoulders.
"I just want to know if you' want to exchange our phone numbers. It'll be easier for us to contact each other."
Leo couldn't believe it. So all his efforts weren't wasted ?
"Yes." He simply told him, smiling big as Chris huffed quietly.
"Perfect." Theo smiled back at him and turned to Chris. "That goes for you too."
"Sure. Why not ?" Chris smiled at his turn. They resumed their walk and exchanged their numbers.
"Are you forgetting your Princess ?" Clara chuckled as the other laughed.
Arriving at the university, Clara kissed everyone before leaving on her side to join the girls' dorm, leaving the three boys alone walking towards their own dorm.
"See you tomorrow for lunch ?" Theo asked them when he stopped on the first floor.
Leo nodded and the two left for the second floor.
When Theo opened the door of his room, a deep voice he know all too well interrupted him.
"Good evening beautiful dog. How are you ?"
Theo turned his head and saw a tiger very similar to Sacha with the same green eyes. Except that he was less muscular, didn't wear any jewelry, and had a top-to-bottom scar on his left eye.
"William. I already told you a hundred times not to call me that." Theo sighed and entered his room, beckoning the tiger to follow him.
"You know me now." He shrugged his shoulder.
"Yes, and that's the real problem. I know you are not joking when you speak." He told him as he took off his jacket and placed it on the back of a chair. "Well, what do you want ?" He asked, already knowing the answer.
"I just wanna know how you been, since the last time we saw each other."
"Yes I'm fine, I absolutely didn't miss you." He gave him a smirk, crossing his arms and leaning back against his wardrobe. "If there's nothing else ?"
"My offer from last year still stands."
"Damnit William." Theo sighed again stepping up to the tiger, placing a fist gently in the middle of his stripped chest.
"You know I like you a lot as a friend but that's where it ends." He sighed again. "I'm still not gay." Theo tells him pointedly.
"I knew you were going to say that." William chuckled and turned to leave the room. "See you in class tomorrow."
"William ! It is good to see you again."
He smirked as the tiger turned to salute him before leaving the room.
