Storm trailed off as he nodded to Niv, knowing that his brother was the only one in any condition to do anything about the threat, with one herm having just birthed and another very pregnant. Storm quickly led the hyenas into their hut.

Niv kept his body tensed and ready for an attack by the wolf, waiting for the wolf to make the first move. The wolf glared at Niv and growled, but seeing that the protector of its prey wasn't going to move, it crouched and leapt. Niv sidestepped it, but it quickly spun around and jumped at Niv again. It didn't knock the griffon over, but gave Niv a glancing bite to on the shoulder while Niv kneed it in the gut, both of them stepping back for a moment.

His brother winced at the attack, curling his fingers and becoming more upset as he watched. Asahi tugged on his tail gently, and he pulled back inside the hut. "You shouldn't let yourself get so upset when you're pregnant," shi said, patting his tummy. He nodded and sighed, sitting next to hir on his shins and hoping his brother would remember his training.

Nivalis and the wolf stared each other down before the wolf started to circle around the griffon. Niv turned his body to continue facing it. This went on for a little while before the wolf faked jumping forward in its circle, then zigzagged to Niv's side to try and tackle the griffon again. Niv held its jaws at bay by closing his hand around the animal's neck using the other to shield his face from the wolf's nails, receiving a good few slashes in the process and crying out from the pain.

Storm winced as he heard the yelps outside, clawing at the ground angrily and lashing his tail. "I want to go out there and help him!" he grunted, looking towards the door.

The hyena rested a hand on his arm. "You're helping us, and your child...that's more than Nivalis would ask of you," shi said calmly before she returned hir son to hir breast, smiling down on him.

The grapple didn't last long before Niv threw the wolf to the side and, expecting the wolf to counterattack, greeted the wolf with a foot to its chin in its mid-pounce, causing it to yelp and falter in its attack, winding up with Niv pinning it on the ground with his whole body. "He has your eyes, Asahi," he said quietly, smiling slightly, trying to stay calm and let his brother fight for them.

Niv knew that now was his chance, cursing himself for letting his emotions cloud his mind earlier in the fight. He reached up with his free hand and then brought his claws down on the wolf's throat, striking a mortal blow. The wolf immediately released Niv's arm and scampered back, emitting a sound that was a mix between yelping and gurgling. It staggered for a moment before it looked up and saw Niv standing over it with a rock in his uninjured hand. Niv muttered, "Know that I don't hate you," before he brought the rock down hard on the animal's skull, killing it instantly. Niv then turned to the hut, holding his bleeding arm, the blood making his white fur look like bloody snow.

Storm heard the sounds of the fight cease, and crawled out again. Upon seeing his injured brother he leapt to his feet, stumbling a bit from the weight as he rushed to his brother's side. "Niv! Are you okay?" he cried, putting his wings around Niv.

The white griffon shook his head, growling from the pain of his injury. "It got me pretty good, I need to clean and bandage this fast. If Asahi doesn't have anything that can clean it, we'll have to pour scalding water on it."

As if on cue, the hyena mother came out of her hut, pup in one hand and a bowl of crushed herbs forming a sort of paste in the other. "Here, Nivalis. This will soothe and treat the wounds," shi explained. He presented his arm and shi applied the herbs to his bite wound, and it numbed the pain quickly, all while shi held the baby to hir breast.

Niv let the hyena mother soothe his wound, taking some of the mixture in his other fingers and putting it on a few scratches he had received from the wolf's nails. "You're a real lifesaver, Asahi," he said quietly, panting to regain his breath. "Guess it's only fair, huh?" he said with a chuckle, scratching the newborn hyena on the back of his head.

"You learn some things in the tribe. It's just herbs and plants from the forest. I can show you which ones sometime if you like." Shi smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek, as well as Storm, to which the pregnant griffon chirped. "Besides, I owe you guys a lot. Come back anytime you need something, or just for some company."

Storm nodded and hugged hir, mindful to be careful of the infant. "You know we will, Asahi."

Niv nodded, smiling warmly at his...family, such as it was. "Of course. You're going to see more of us," he rubbed Storm's tummy, "and more often in a little while, make no mistake about that." He rose to his feet and picked up the shirt that held the afterbirth before coming back to the three. "Well, we should head out now. But before I go, can I give him a kiss goodbye?" he asked, looking at hir son.

Asahi nodded and held hir son out a bit for Niv, though not as much as shi would to offer him for holding. Shi wasn't ready for that so soon. Storm smiled warmly at them. "And yes, I think we'll be having our own little birthing ceremony in a couple of months...I'll try to let you know beforehand, but you know how these things can go," he remarked with a wink at Asahi.

Niv nodded and, picking up the shirt that contained Asahi's afterbirth, turned toward Asahi's tribe and stayed close to Storm as they walked. "See? That wasn't so bad. And even if it was, just look at how happy shi was at the end," he said comfortingly.

"Yeah...but then I wasn't feeling hir pain through it. Or rather, I was imagining it, and it scared me. Shi's stronger than I am." He fluttered his wings. "But I hope with your help I'll be all right."

Niv sighed and stopped, setting down his shirt and holding Storm in a one-armed hug. "Storm, I'm doing everything I can to teach you about the power that will come to you when you need it, but I don't know if I'm getting through to you, and if I'm not, that's starting to scare me. I'm not the only one who'll be with you." He pressed his toned abdomen against Storm's very pregnant stomach.

He murred and held Niv close, purring to him and feeling the little one rumbling about inside him. "You are, hon. I'm just a big sissy when it comes down to giving birth. Not something I ever thought I'd be doing, you know." He smiled a bit and rubbed Niv's firm chest and tummy. "You look really good, bro...like me, seven months ago."

Niv chuckled, trying to maintain his serious composure. "Mmf...I can't stay upset when you compliment me like that." He patted Storm's tummy before picking up his shirt and moving back along.
