Asriel sighed. The goat creature was so much more than what others took him for, but he paced around the world, regardless, seeking out something that would, at the very least, bring him to peace. That was easier said than done, he thought to himself, though Asriel would never honestly have expected to end up in the abandoned factory.
At least, to him, it looked abandoned. He looked up at it, the gaunt, metal structure with crows passing by overhead, appearing as if the civilised world had set it aside. He shrugged and stepped inside, his white fur bare, though he did still sometimes have to duck to make sure he did not catch his horns. His long ears were sensitive and even snagging his goat horns on something often sent reverberations into his skull that were quite unpleasant.
There was magic in the factory though, something that he had been able to sense, but, well...he didn't quite know what it was all about. It was enough to perk his curiosity, at least, as he ventured deeper, turning his head from one side to the other.
It was set up like a factory, with giant metal vats and grated walkways, even what seemed to be conveyer belts, but, still, nothing in there that could explain the strange flow of magic. Asriel shook his head, lips pressed together, more and more at a lack of ease as he stepped up onto a platform overlooking one of the huge, metal vats.
"What is this place?" He muttered to himself, though still hearing himself as clear as day. "This isn't right."
Abandoned...but completely clean inside, pristine, in fact. It wasn't right and he stepped back, as if to leave.
CRACK!
_ _
The metal snapped, grating and grinding against adjoining pieces - but Asriel was tipped! There was nowhere for him to go but down, the vat welcoming him as he dropped like a stone into the darkness of it.
There wasn't even a moment in which Asriel could cry out, feet kicking up as he fell, though something cool and flowing enveloped him. It wasn't water, but it was some kind of liquid, flowing around him as he emerged once more, gasping.
He looked up, blinking, but it was as if the platform that he had been standing on had not changed at all. It looked like he had merely been dropped, straight down, into the vat of... What was it? Momentarily distracted, he licked his lips, concerned by what was going on, how his stomach turned and churned, rocking into the flow of something easing around him and through him. It was almost as if he was a part of it.
And it was chocolate, milk chocolate. A kind of chocolate sauce, though Asriel could not honestly say that he was all that familiar with chocolate sauces. If he hadn't fallen so fast, he would have been able to stop himself with his powers from falling into the sticky, clinging substance, but, as it was, all the goat could do was make a face as he half-paddled to the side of the vat. There was a little ladder there, potentially for someone who had once cleaned the inside of it, but he didn't need that. He just made it a little easier for himself in getting to the side, drawing on his powers.
However, the problem there was that his powers simply were not there. Asriel grunted, the sound bubbling in the back of his throat, but it just didn't seem to work. What was going on?
No matter then, if something was interfering with his magic, he thought. He could just pull himself out up the ladder and over the edge, his arms were more than strong enough for that.
And yet... He couldn't. He stretched out his arms, dripping with milk chocolate, and caught the edge, only to drip even more and get sucked back into the pool.
He tried to cry out, though even that did not come from his lips as Asriel wanted it to, more of a gurgle than anything else, his eyes wide - at least until he was dragged back under the surface.
The goat, however, could not panic, not when he was submerged, his chest tight, but...there was no true need to breathe there. There was a reflex, an automatic interest in breathing, but... something was missing. Asriel shook his head back and forth under the surface, the chocolate flowing into his mouth, though it felt like it was a part of him, easing through, deeper still.
He looked down at his body, trying his best to see through the chocolate, but his eyes at least could see through the chocolate sauce, even if he did not understand why. It had to be part of the magic, his body still normal, at least, the circular walls of the container forming a prison. The bottom, however... He couldn't see a bottom. Asriel grunted. Did it go on forever?
That was something that he would investigate later, the goat swimming back to the surface and shoving his hand through again, with renewed determination. Yet, to his surprise, his hand simply lost all strength. He could still feel it there, attached to him, but it was as if it was not a part of his body that he could use anymore.
Asriel slumped back into the chocolate sauce, deflated, but tried again with his left hand and arm, thrusting his arm out too. Yet the moment he reached the surface a sense of weakness enveloped him, spreading more through his body the more that he pushed above the surface. His shoulder shook and the goat could not help but slump back down, so weak, so heavy, even so sticky. That was not a sensation at all that Asriel was used to, though he floated a bit below the surface, trying something different.
His legs? He kicked his feet up, both at once, though wavered instantly, feeling as if he was stuck, the sensation of stickiness, all over, making him want to rub it off his body, even if he knew that, logically, there was nothing he could do about it at that time. Asriel's brow furrowed, pushing down the sense of unease in his stomach, but he tried more slowly, one more time.
That went better, slowly pushing the tip of a finger and then the others and then his hand from the surface, concentrating on it. His hand felt heavy, so very heavy, as if it was a genuine weight that he was struggling to lift, but he had to try, pushing up more and more, using the ladder.
He was used to strange magic, but that was stranger magic than anything that Asriel had ever experienced before. It wasn't the time to investigate it as he concentrated entirely on the weight of his body, how the sticky pull of the pool of chocolate sauce drew him back into the pool. Or, at least, it wanted to, but he slowly and carefully forced his way up and over the edge, thinking about his body, the weight of it, how it took so much more strength than he realised it had ever taken before.
Yet, eventually, Asriel felt whole and formed again, as himself, standing on the solid platform that, in a way, he had fallen from. Yet the goat still did not trust the fact that he felt as if he had been dropped, shaking his head slowly, completely naked and yet, strangely so, even more so than he had been before. The tattoos and lack of markings, strangely enough, made him feel more exposed than he had been before, no longer with fur. That was where the element of nudity came into it for him as he drew in a soft breath, testing his lungs, though it was not as disconcerting that the need to breathe was not there anymore. He could still do it and that was what mattered.
Wait... There was something wrong. He wasn't on a platform, though it all felt stable enough, on top of the pool of chocolate sauce itself. He blinked and looked down, though his body was in the way, the pool beneath him so smooth and so seamless that it looked as if he had not been in there, disrupting the flow, at all. He blinked down at it, parting his lips, though even that motion was wrong as he stood on top of the pool.
All over, he was light brown, quite literally as if he had been dipped in chocolate sauce. He dripped and drooled a little and he felt every tingle of sensation from those goo-like drops of chocolate sauce intimately, even when they separated from him. When Asriel concentrated, he could make those little drips and blobs of milk chocolate sauce come back to him, though it took a big effort of will to do so.
He didn't quite want to yet consider what would happen if he let go of everything and no longer thought about holding his reformed body together. Would he lose all his strength again? And where did the loss of his powers come into it?
He paused before a shiny, reflective surface, just a sheet of metal. His reflection was not clear in it, but he could still see the glow of his eyes. That was not normal, not how the purple shone, not his natural hues. Yet it was one of the less worrying parts of his changed, smooth, dripping body as he tried to move and struggled just to lift one foot after the other from the smooth, chocolate pool.
"Unngghhh..."
He groaned, though the sound bubbled in the back of his throat as if it was coming out through the chocolate. Asriel parted his lips, strands of thick chocolate sauce tugging out thinly between his upper and lower lips, but closed his mouth again. It was easier to concentrate on holding his body in one form and shape when he wasn't adding further complications to it.
But it was not all that easy as he wriggled his toes into the surface of the pool, trying to move his foot again, though it felt as if he was being sucked down and in all over again. He was glad to see his toes there still, which was something at least, and he tried, again, to take a small step.
Numbness swallowed his foot, a sense of it being heavy and not being really there, though Asriel could only liken that to having pins and needles. Those set in a moment later, sticky and tingling, almost vibrating. He tried to gasp but no sound came out, not even with the shocking vibrations.
Yet it was more delicate than that, more intricate. For the sensations were split between the upper and lower half of his foot. Where the lower part of his foot was still in the chocolate sauce, toes digging in, the upper part of his foot and heel, where he was trying to lift it, strung out with thick strings of sauce clinging between each part. There was so little to connect him there, the bottom numb where it had been separated, almost, and the top half vibrating, though Asriel was more annoyed than worried. It was worrying, yes, but at least nothing worse had happened. The goat was a little at a loss, however, as to just how he could have
He waited there, with the strings of sauce strung out between the upper and lower half, foot clinging, not knowing what to do, and pulled a little higher. They separated - but the chocolate sauce tingled as it reformed, pulling everything together again. His body knew what to do, even then, the goat focused, pulling all the strings of chocolate sauce together into the proper shape of a foot.
It was a lot of work, however, so much so that it ended up sticky, glue-like, so soft that it could have lost its shape of a foot at any time. He pressed his foot back down a little, easing the path of the reformation, though his foot reforming didn't quite look like a foot. It was more snail-like with the round of his heel up to his ankle, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, both returning to sink into the surface of the pool.
When he drew his foot up again, it was clear to him, certainly made of thick chocolate sauce, or perhaps even melted chocolate, from head to toe, as if something had changed intrinsically, something that changed the composition of his body. Where he didn't need to breathe, Asriel doubted that he needed to use other organs of his either. Maybe he didn't even have to move, if he didn't want to.
His foot wiggled, but the features of his toes were lost, his lips pressed together in annoyance so that the line of them was lost. Standing still, he planned his movement, not wanting to exert too much energy. There was a shiny metal plate leaning against the wall, which proved to be a good target, showing his reflection. Asriel sighed, though his body was merely going through the motion as he began walking to it, very slowly, needing simply to get out of the vat.
It was hard to separate himself from the chocolate, though the goat took it all excruciatingly slowly. That was better, if he took his time, taking very small steps as he moved out of the vat, breaking from the surface of the pool and proving that he was separate from it.
Even though his body appeared muscular, with his chocolate sauce coating and no fur, it was harder work than anything he'd ever done. Weakness swamped him and he pushed it down, slowing his steps, his legs shaking and vibrating as if they were going to break apart if he moved too quickly.
Later, he told himself. He would try to get quicker later.
The solid ground was a relief, though Asriel recoiled in irritation at how his feet deformed - every time they hit to ground. It was like a blob, nothing like a foot at all, though the toes of the foot that was raised remained with greater definition and form, which he supposed was something helpful, at least. He didn't have to put as much thought into it as before to reform his body, as if his body wanted to spring back into the form of that mould anyway, but he didn't know how easy that all would be if he completely fell apart into a sticky pool of melted chocolate.
His deformed foot, when set down, numbed up, tingling and vibrating, but he forced himself on, shifting his weight, squelching with every step. Asriel flinched from the noise, usually, such a quiet soul, though it was hard to ignore it as he squished across the metal, towards the reflective surface still, something that was a little clearer, a little sharper. Even when he was not stepping, his foot sucked and glopped and seemed to bubble grossly with noise, at the point of deforming and reforming. Sound surrounded him and he tried to hasten on, though small, precise steps were still what were the most needed for him.
Finally, however, he reached the mirror-like plate. It was bigger than the odd one that he had caught earlier, which had only really shown a blurry shape and the glow of his new eyes, though he didn't like how that had changed. He needed to be himself again and Asriel would dedicate every drop of his being to finding a way to make that happen until it did. There was nothing else for it as he took a closer look at himself, standing square and even between both of his feet as he looked up and down.
It was strangely easy to look at body, though there was not too much more to be seen there than what he could see when looking down his body. He was smoother and more muscular, all in a way that he was curious about, but he had lost his fur, his skin moving and flowing as if it was all chocolate sauce. Asriel scoffed, the sound rising from the back of his throat. Well, that was what he was and there was no sense in ignoring it.
Chocolate sauce. Melted chocolate. He suppressed a shudder.
He turned around, checking out his back and sides, the parts of him that had been harder to see, his hands rubbing over his body with a twist of his lips. He didn't know what he felt about that sensation, how it played out there, the solid but sticky body. In a way, Asriel had expected to be softer, almost as if to find his fingers sinking into his body, but the firmness caught him off guard. His body stuck to his fingers and clung, however, like strands of chocolate sauce, but he could get his fingers and hands to melt halfway into his skin too, if he pressed hard enough.
It did not feel like he couldn't get his hands out again, as he rubbed across his body and down over his hips, even trying his backside too and around the base of his tail, a strange sensation indeed. It was like touching his body without fur, but with something else added. He didn't know. It was all new to him and he couldn't be expected to find everything easy right away.
It was kind of arousing though, in a sexy way, as if he was seeing another body and not his own. But Asriel smiled faintly, rather enjoying just how the light glanced off his smooth, chocolate body, catching the light with its sheer sleekness.
Glancing at his feet, however, twisted that very smile right away into a frown as he scoffed and turned away. No! He couldn't just stay in that form when his feet looked like that! He had to be whole, whole and healthy. He had to find a way to carry on, taking his time to look at the better parts of his body, the smooth, chocolate muscling of his legs and the flatness of his stomach.
He turned, eventually, to his reflection again and to the wall, concentrating and trying to lift his feet higher than he had been. He rested both hands, carefully, on the wall for balance, spreading his fingers, though there was a sense of heaviness there still as Asriel trembled and, slowly, lifted his right foot.
His hands and fingers blurred and blobbed as he pressed against the wall, not able to support himself as he wanted to, a flat, messy, puddle-like shape, but Asriel's attention was on his foot. His right foot hovered in the air, tingling, though it reformed easily as if the short walk that he had already taken had helped more than Asriel had even realised. His foot reformed and he would have breathed a sigh of relief if he had needed to as his toes reformed too, wiggling them with a faint smile.
That made him feel a bit better, though Asriel had not considered the need to feel good before. His toes moved easily, even one at a time, and he flexed and curled his foot, up and down, just to test the limits of his movement. He still seemed to have all his old flexibility and mobility, but the restrictions of his new body, however temporary Asriel wanted to make it, had to be worked within too.
Twisting his foot, he tested the angles of flexion, tipping it to the side, though carefully had to put it back down, eventually. He didn't want to see it deform again and tried to make that not happen, concentrating on holding himself together, but his weight determined that for him.
His foot trembled in numbness, still smooshed and deformed into half a snail-like blob as he set it back down. Asriel's chest ached, though the cavity that had been there before was no longer there. Oh, how he missed his old body.
Yet it was not that easy, even if he would have liked it to be, the resolve set in the pit of his stomach to find a way to reform himself, to take on his old body once more. He needed it back, the old sense of stability that one could not realise that they truly missed until it was gone.
He lifted his left foot next, concentrating on it, though the chocolate knew where to go, reforming into the mould of Asriel. He could just move more quickly if he concentrated, though the goat thought, with a sinking heart, that it was going to take him rather a lot longer than he wanted it to for him to feel truly settled in that body. Enough so, at least, so that he could find a way to make that body work for him, to find his old one again.
Oh, even his thoughts felt as if they were going through sludge, dredged up from the pit of the melted chocolate chamber...
He did not despair, however, letting his deformed left foot come back together, twisting it back and forth, arching it, wriggling his toes. Every time his foot reformed, it sent intense tingles up through his foot and ankle into his lower leg, like pins and needles - though it was still unlike any kind of pins and needles that Asriel had ever before experienced.
He didn't want to experience it again, however, not as he headed for the stairs. Maybe if he went up higher, he would be able to find an answer, a higher vantage point. It was a small hope of his, but, well, sometimes there was only so much that he could do. The sucking of his feet glomming to the ground as he stepped forward was difficult enough, tingling and pulsating with the vibrations, resisting the urge to moan.
He didn't want to. He didn't want to draw attention to himself, not as he paused at the foot of the stairs, ignoring the intense tingling in his right foot, which was still reforming. What if he had to deal with all of that for the rest of his life?
Looking down at his hands, Asriel barely even noticed the claws pointed at his fingertips, delicately placing one hand each on the railings on either side of the stairs. They had a grate in each step, with holes, but that surely would be fine...
Or maybe not as he tried to balance, his fingers tingling as they melted and oozed right through the railings. He glared at the stumps that his hands had become, walking up onto the first and then the second step, but he couldn't put any pressure at all on his hands, not really, not as they melted and stuck to the railings. The sticky, clinging sensation blistered through him as he fought away the tingles, the prickle and sting, but Asriel concentrated as much as he could, allowing his body to reform.
The first step was hard and he parted his lips in a gasp as his feet melted through the first step, hustling and hastening on, scrambling up to the very edge of the next step. The juddering that he felt in his chest, however, was only a memory of how his heart should have been hammering, but he couldn't feel anything like that over the tingling vibrations of his feet, even then, fighting to reform.
On the second, he tried to keep to the edge where the metal was a bit thicker, a little more to support him, but he tried to climb still, even as his feet melted away completely. The chocolate sauce was still a part of him and his body, but it strung out in long, thick strands, slopping from the metal grate as he pressed on, panic fluttering in his chest. Sticky all over, there seemed to be no way for him to rid himself of the stickiness, how it clung to him and made him want to be still and do nothing, all so he could keep his body together.
That didn't help, as he lost his ankles on the third step and muttered faintly under his breath, heading higher, but he had to go more slowly. Rushing only made it worse, even though Asriel longed to have the whole, sorry ordeal over as quickly as possible, keeping to his plan the best he could. It was the only plan that he had as his body burst with tingling, pulsating vibrations wherever it was struggling to reform. So much to drag his mind to all at once...
Still going slowly meant that his legs and feet had to have even more pressure put on them, his stomach churning with worry and nerves. There were too many holes in the stairs: perhaps ascending them had been a bad idea? But it was too late, halfway up, because if he went down there were going to be just as many stairs to traverse if he headed down instead of continuing upwards.
Sometimes, there was never a good answer to anything. But he had to try, pressing his lips together, feeling the slickness there, the stickiness as the chocolate sauce melted a little more from the pressure and the friction.
Yet he lost control, his body too heavy, too sticky, sinking through the grate, slopping and squelching as he fought for control. If he had been looking down, the goat would have realised that the higher steps had had more holes in their grates than the lower ones, but it still would have had the same outcome for him, his wrists just stumps with his hands a sloppy, sticky, tingling mess.
Asriel's lips parted again, strings of chocolate strung out between his upper and lower lip, concentrating as hard as he could to get to the platform, though it was impossible. His feet were gone and his ankles and he melted down his calves as he climbed, grunting thickly in the back of his throat. He didn't balance on the rails anymore, allowing his hands to form, even though there was not as much definition to the fingers as he might have wanted. The intense vibrations were almost enough to stop him, but Asriel climbed the best he could, melting through the grate down to his thighs, feeling as if he was leaving more of himself behind with every step.
Eventually, nearing the top, only his thighs remained and he wriggled where he had slopped down, confused by the new vantage point. Up! He had to lift himself up! But his fingers oozed and melted around the grate where he curled his fingers for purchase, trying to grip, though the stickiness of his fingers didn't come through in grip and hold in that way, not when he wanted it to.
The weight of his torso, however, was too much for him as his arms tingled, trying to reform but not being allowed to do so, leaving him almost glued and stuck to the platform. Chocolate dripped below him, part of his body, though it still struggled to get back to him, wanting to re-join with the main body.
"No... This can't..."
But Asriel did not have the strength nor the concentration in his temporary new form to hold himself together and reform through the grate. It didn't harm him, but it was far from comfortable either as he clawed and scrambled, his fingers and arms melting and slopping sticky chocolate everywhere. And the tingles, the twitchy vibrations - almost phantom, for they belonged to body parts that he could not see anymore. They were the worst of all.
Asriel couldn't hold it! Down and down, his entire body melted through the holes and out of the edges of the platform, even as it clung and stuck. The pressure of gravity was more stringent than even the stickiness of the chocolate, dragging him down. His arms melted up to the shoulders as he strained to hold himself up, but there was no stopping the pull of his oozing, tingling body, not knowing which parts of him were actively trying to reform and which parts were still melting. It was hard to tell with so much conflicting and coming together, all at once, but that didn't change anything.
His chest oozed out as the goat tried to take a big gasp, neck tingling, but he wasn't going to reform quickly that time, not quickly enough, as his head too melted completely through the grate of the step.
SPLAT!
He was not entirely sure when his entire head had deformed, for he had not lost his ability to see at any time, conscious of what was happening to him the whole time. He dropped back to the ground, further back than where he had started, full body tingles pulsing and fluttering and vibrating through him.
He couldn't make any noise, not then, not as his whole body reformed, slowly, too slowly. If only he could have snapped his fingers and had everything right back the way it was supposed to be! Yet it was a relief, in a way, to have the stickiness back, the sense of smoothness about his form, even if he had to fight through the mind-numbing tingles.
They prickled and pulled and dragged his body back all at once, no one part forming first. His body collected all the melted chocolate that he had slopped through the grates, forming his legs, his feet, though it took a long time for the goat to be able to wriggle his toes again. He tried to gasp, letting his chest heave, but the definition of his light muscling evened out across his chest again. His muzzle shaped itself and he even got his horns back, sticking to the floor as he struggled to sit up.
Well, that was something, at least, that he was whole again, twitching his fingers, even seeing the very faint definition of what could have been nails there. That helped, at least a little, though it did not make it easy, not even then, not for him.
What on earth can I do? He thought, though it took him a moment to realise that he didn't have to think slowly, for that was not a part of his body that would have to reform if he forgot to concentrate. I have to find a way to get rid of this form. Magic is not irreversible, there must be something here that can change me back.
_ _
For he couldn't just live the rest of his life as a chocolate sauce monster... They said that he was already a monster, but Asriel chose to turn his cheek from that. That had been another time, another life. And he wasn't about to take on a new life that he didn't want to claim at all, not even a little bit, for his own.
He shook off the brooding. Warm. Why was he so warm? It was as if he was wearing thick clothes on top of his natural fur, though he shouldn't have been so warm then, surely, if he no longer had that fur. He sat up shakily, though his motions were smooth, for it was merely the vibrations that made him feel shakier than he had been before. It was like being constantly off-balance, not quite knowing what he was doing, not being settled in his body, not in the slightest. Regardless, he didn't feel capable or confident, not even then, to stand up fully, taking the time to rest, to think, to consider what his best course of action should be.
He would have to try the stairs another time, he thought dimly. That would take too long, far too long, for him to work out, though he wished he could flow up the railing like a thick sauce, fighting gravity. Gravity, however, seemed to be one of the things, so far, that he could count on still being the same.
Yet the warmth... It clung to him and, even as he sat there, tipped back so that his torso was at an angle and his hands were supporting him, his body started to, very slowly, lose its shape.
What? No! That shouldn't have been happening, not when he was just sitting there - he wasn't trying to walk or move, he wasn't doing anything! So why was he falling apart, seemingly melting and unable to even hold the most basic of shapes together, all over again?
Asriel held his words back, not saying anything, afraid that that would just serve to speed up the process. He had to think, had to keep things slow, all so he could come back to himself and find a way to keep all as he wanted it to be. That status quo of a solid body that didn't melt and barely even sweated naturally, however, was further and further from his reach with every passing second.
He tried to push his melting chest back into place with his hands, but they only melted and oozed more quickly, feeling as if all strength was leaving his body. That weakness had become fainter as he had gotten used to his new body, yet returned in a swathe as the dull heaviness left him so weak he barely felt as if he could lift a limb.
He laid there, somehow flat out again, his hands oozing, melting into himself. He was too slow, too heavy, losing his sense of shape, where his body should have filled a mould, like a chocolate mould, perhaps. But he wanted to be in that mould, stuck to the floor, glued there as the stickiness of his body leaned even more heavily into the dullness of losing the anthro form once more.
He wanted to complain, even as hopelessness filled him, down and down and down, the features of his face melting. Too late, he realised that chocolate could melt when it got warm and, if he was already a type of sauce, then surely it would not take much warmth to melt him down. Even movement could be enough to melt him, he realised in hindsight, though there did not feel as if there was anything he could do about it then, not when all the strength was gone from his limbs and energy from his body. He couldn't even feel the definition of his muscles anymore, where they had surely laid beneath the sticky smoothness of his hide.
Maybe his hide. Maybe his body. Asriel honestly didn't know anymore, not as he melted away. Worrying about the sloppy, glooping shape of his feet didn't seem like such a big deal anymore.
His muzzle slicked down, though he could still see, even if he logically knew that his eyes too must have melted. He was still aware, not breathing, of the space that his melted puddle of a body took up, so much tingling weakness forcing its way through him. Even then, however, his vision was light brown, fading slowly, taking his perception of his reality from his sense of what was around him, feeling the floor, the cooler caress of the air.
Maybe that will help me reform my body.
_ _
But he'd have to let the time come, not breathing, just existing, and, if anyone had entered the abandoned factory, they would not have recognised him, not even a little bit, as Asriel.
In there, he was nothing more than a melted puddle of chocolate sauce, slick and soft and milky-brown. Someone could have swirled their fingers through his melted form, even though he tingled viciously, his body wanting to reform even when it could not, and they still would not have recognised him as Asriel, not even one little bit.
Worry clawing at him, Asriel let time pass, hoping against the reality of it all that he would reform again, that he would be able to find the magic that had done that to him and a way back to the life he had been trying to lead.
Melted into chocolate and unable to find himself again, that was all Asriel could hope for.
