Behind the Cloak of Shadows
Author's note: Ok! so this is my first effort at a most first person chapter. I will enclude the odd chapter after this of FP, but not all. I included the little character profile for people just starting the story here.
Lacyus Akival
Date of birth: April 25 1990
Species: Helldragon (Burgundy red with black element marks)
Special Spell: Radiation Surge
A cool, calm dragon that is constantly in control, even in the eye of a raging storm around him. He is very hard to anger or annoy, but quickly loses his cool when he is detained in some manner or if Sunset's wellbeing is threatened. On the exterior, he portrays a cold blooded murderer. On the inside, he is extremely kind, friendly and has an unfaltering love for Sunset
*************
Sunset yawned and watched the guards wheel away the dead dragon's body. Her thin flannel PJs did nothing to keep out the cold, so she was shivering slightly. The dragon's head was totally obliterated by the two .60 cal bullets Sunset had fired. All that was left was just a ragged stump of a neck. Behind it came his associate, the female panther from Metrotown.
"I'm telling you!" She barked. "You're making a big mistake! When he comes back to life, he's gonna be pissed that you strapped him down!"
A wolf guard passing gave her a sour look. "You're in no position to give me orders. Now move along!"
The panther laughed. "It's your life to throw away."
The wolf came up to Sunset. "Listen. If there's anything we can do to make this little traumatizing incident-"
"Do I look traumatized?" Sunset growled. "The way I see it, it was a nice, clean shot and one dead dragon. I've killed before and I'll do it again."
The wolf gave a mischievous smile and stepped closer to her. "Well then... I need you to come with me..."
Sunset felt his hand creep down her pants and begin to massage her slit. She shuddered and stifled a moan. 'Ohhhh yeah... This feels good.... God, what if I cum out h-What the hell am I doing!??!' Her sexual loyalty switched to Lacyus. 'I'm not available anymore.'
Sunset brought her knee up sharply into the wolf's crotch. There was a wet cracking noise and a white and red stain formed on his uniform in that area. He made and odd croaking noise as he fell onto his side.
"Pervert." Sunset muttered and walked over to Mira and the others. Mira was frowning.
"What was that all about?"
"He groped me. I showed him how I take to being raped."
Mira laughed. "Attta girl!"
Suddenly there were shouts from the direction of the investigation tent.
"LOOK OUT! HE'S COME TO LIFE!"
Sunset turned and suddenly she couldn't move. A roar split the air, nearly turning her legs to jelly. Fear lanced through her blood and cemented her feet to the ground.
The dragon... The dragon she killed. It was standing on top of the gurney. And it was pissed.
***
Ok. So here's the situation.
I wake up after being shot in the head by mistake and I'm strapped down to this gurney. That pissed me off a bit. Then I see some jackass wolfie grope my mate. That was too much. I cut all the straps and kill the guards that were wheeling me away. Standing on top of the gurney, I roar at the top of my lungs to attract attention. Everyone froze. My head and eyes darted around, prioritizing targets and deciding a kill order. Finally a captain reacted.
"RESTRAIN HIM!!!!"
Several guards rushed forward. Turning my arms into shadow tentacles, I grab them and toss them aside like paper cups.
"Weak!" I bark. "Anything more!?!?!?"
Several more guards, this time with rifles rush forward. I can remember this one anime I watched on Earth. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (real anime, and good too!). This one character in it had the ability to, when he wanted to, command anyone to do what he wanted. I used some ideas off of that show to form several spells, such as the Radiation surge. I modeled at after the Guren Nishiki Knighmare's Radiation surge. And now I was about to employ my version of another spell.
I looked directly into their eyes and executed the spell. They immediately froze. Then they bowed. The captain just stared at them.
The squad's leader edged forward. "What is thy bidding, your highness?"
Smiling, I give him an order. "Die. All of you."
The entire squad drew their side arms and pressed them to their heads. They spoke as one, eagerly anticipating the non-existent reward for obeying my command. "YES, YOUR HIGHNESS!"
The captain's eyes opened wide in horror. "What are you-"
CRACK! CR-CRACK!
The squad slumped forward, each member following my order, shooting themselves in the head. I turned to the captain and smiled as evilly as my kind heart could muster.
"Want some more?"
The captain started backing away and smiled meekly. "N-n-no sir! W-We were j-just l-l-l-eaving! G-g-g-good day to you s-s-sir!"
I have never seen a guard assembly pack up and leave so quickly. As soon at they were out of sight, I hopped off of the gurney and began walking towards my friends. They must have not recognized my new body, because Mira raised her pistol while Sunset, eyes full of animal fear, raised Mira's rifle uneasily.
"D-d-d-don't come any closer!" Sunset whimpered. "I'll blow your head off again!"
I held up my hands. "Okay. Let's just calm down. I'm not gonna hurt you."
I was within arms reach of Sunset. It took all of my restraint to keep from hugging her right there. I lowered one arm and tried to place it on Sunset's shoulder. Suddenly she unfroze.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!!!!" She screamed and jammed the rifled two barrels into my mouth.
Two thoughts crossed my mind.
1: This is gonna hurt. I'm gonna have a migraine after this.
2: I'm gonna scare the heck out of Sunset when I come back to life.
There was a click as she pulled the trigger and everything went black.
***
My vision gradually returned as my head reformed. There was a throbbing ache where the bullet tore through my last head. I sat up and saw Sunset pressing herself into a wall. She raised a shaking, pointing finger at me.
"F-F-" She tried again. "FREAK!!!!! HELP!!!"
Beside her, Mira had her rifle aimed cleanly at my head. Nephilla was cowering behind Rykuu, who, despite being scared to death, was trying to shield her from me. I reached out telepathically and touched Sunset's mind. She stiffened up visibly, then some of the fear left her eyes.
*Lacyus.... Help.... I'm so scared..... Where are you.....* She whimpered back.
*Look in front of you.*
The fear left Sunset's eyes suddenly and she stared blankly for a moment. She tried to form a word on her lips. "L-L-Lacyus? I-I-Is that you?"
My heart soared. "Took you long enough."
She collapsed to her knees and hugged me, crying. "I missed you!"
Mira was next to react. She hauled both of us to our feet and embraced us both, laughing and crying. "You sick bastard!" She teased, tears streaming from her eyes. "Is this how you get your kicks now!?!?"
Rykuu stood back, while Nephilla joined in.

Breakfast was burned, so we spent the day talking and catching up. Sunset was like Velcro. She would not leave my side for anything. And when I sat down anywhere that was not public, she would sit on my lap and constantly tell me she loved me. Not that I didn't like it, but this is the most romantic I've seen her ever. She even managed to get, on very short notice, reservations at an expensive oriental restaurant for the two of us. And that's where we were at the time.
The candlelight danced across Sunset's scales, giving them an almost divine look. Her eyes were locked on me and, although the dragon side of me found it a bit unnerving, I put up with it. She was wearing her favorite flower petal dress, while I was wearing a simple cloak and a beret. She leaned forward and gave me a kiss.
"You're the last dragon I'd expect to get horns." Sunset said, smiling. She took one of my horns in her hand and shook my head playfully.
"Yeah, me too. But what's with your eyes? They're golden now. Really beautiful."
Sunset broke her eye contact with me and blushed, looking down. "I don't know. I woke up one day and Mira said my eyes had changed and I looked in the mirror and..." Her voice trailed off.
I looked her over from head to toe (at least what I could see above the table) and noticed a slightly discolored band of scales around her head. It was obviously make-up covering something.
"What are you covering on your head?"
Sunset's side of our link snapped closed. "Nothing."
I frowned at her, annoyed. She's always worried about me hating change in her.
"Sunset. Show me. I'll still love you."
She relocked her eyes with mine. "It's nothing, seriously."
"Ok. That's it." I grab her chin gently and pull her head forward. She blushed and gives me a pleading look in her eyes.
Taking the napkin, I wipe away the makeup, revealing a horizontal strip of rich golden yellow colored scales on her head. I could trace it all around her head. It was absolutely beautiful. As soon as I released her head, she covered the scales with her hands.
"There. You happy now?" She said sadly. "I didn't want you to see that."
I gently pry her hands off of her head and kiss her on the tip of her snout. "That just makes you more beautiful. Don't cover them up."
A bit of hope leaks into her eyes. "Really?"
"I'd say you're DNA is evolving. It's natural for your colors to change during that."
Her eyes lit up as she returned to her normal self. "Do you have any ideas of what's it's doing?"
"Easy. You're becoming a Heavendragon."
The glow in Sunset's eyes died. "That's not a real good joke. I don't think it's funny. Now tell me the truth."
We finished dinner in silence and walked into the night, hand in hand. Sunset seemed a bit annoyed at what I said back there, but it was the truth. We found ourselves on the beach where I had met her in the form of Helios when we broke up.
"Okay. Lacyus. Please tell the truth. What's happening to my body?"
Kissing her on the cheek, I press my head against her, grinding them together affectionately. "I told you. You're becoming a Heavendragon."
She swatted me in the back of the head. "Stop lying."
"I shall explain. When we were just a Shadow and Lightdragon, our DNA was sitting in wait. When we separated, the emotional shock in both of us must have triggered the evolution. I noticed I got much stronger, both in terms of mana and physically. With you, your eyes changed and you got that lovely halo thing." I added in lovely to hopefully comfort her mind. "When I broke your leg, the emotional shock from that must have triggered the physical appearance change for me. With you, you've had less emotional shocks than me. Therefore, you haven't undergone as much, ummmmmm...... advances as I have."
Sunset nodded. "I still don't believe you. Some of my other scales have changed color. What would they be if this little lie was true?"
I ran the idea through my mind. "White. Just a pure white. Like snow."
Sunset's eyes went wide. "Holy shit. Maybe you are right."
She slipped the top of her dress off and showed me her chest and belly. They had beautiful pearl white scales on them.
"So can only negative emotional shocks trigger changes?" She said, slipping her dress back on.
"I don't think so. The way you are right now may trigger the changes as well. Ohh, and before I forget, I have the ultimate gift arriving by train for you tomorrow."
***
It was the next day, and my prediction was right. When we got up, Sunset showed me that her white scales had greatly advanced down the inside of her thighs. They were also creeping up her neck. I helper her cover the ones that were visible, but I refused to let her cover the halo on her head. We got into a little play wrestle over it and wound up just kissing for the better part of the morning. But we had quickly readied ourselves and headed off to the train platform.
"So, where's this 'ultimate gift'?" Sunset said teasingly.
I took her hand. "Patience, patience. You'll get it soon enough."
The train arrived in the platform and I stepped in between it and Sunset. She began to protest.
"I don't want you to ruin the surprise!" I teased.
