Chapter 18
Golden eyes opened slowly, sleep still weighing heavily on his mind. His gaze fell upon creamy skin and knew exactly who it was he was snuggled against. The scent was unmistakably Kadell's.
Liolyn closed his eyes for a second, inhaling deeply, hugging the wolf tightly, before pulling away with his exhale. He untangled his limbs and somehow got the wolf to let go of his waist. The separation tore at his heart and soul and he earned to go back into the warmth.
He resisted.
He was sitting up now, eyes closed as he tried to gather up the strength he needed to be able to do what he had to. He flinched minutely when the back of fingers gently slid down his arm. Gold eyes looked at the black and blue hand, trying not to think how it was his fault it was broken.
Kadell's expression was one of concern as he propped himself on one elbow, reaching out with his good hand to grab Liolyn and pull him back to bed but the cat demon shifted away.
Grey eyes watched as the cat demon slid to the other side of their makeshift bed, wrapping a fur blanket securely around his waist as he did, and got up.
Liolyn wouldn't look at Kadell as he limped over to the bed, his foot or ankle throbbing from something in the water. He suspected hitting a rock or the ice crumbing under him or the kicking of the solid surface of the water to be the culprit.
He groaned, fearing the nightmares that would follow the trauma. It was bad enough dreaming about his mother's death and that one time he was drugged and raped. Now the memory of being trapped under ice and drowning haunted him.
Liolyn gingerly pulled off the first layers of furs, each one of them smelling like the musk of mating season, and tossed them into a pile.
He laid down on the bed, curling up into a ball, his tail wrapping around his legs and curling near his nose. He had his back to Kadell, pulling the blanket up to cover his body.
Kadell almost made a noise, almost. If it ever escaped it would have been choked, full of agony and despair. He reached out towards the cat before his hand flinched back, curling into a fist and falling to the ground. He looked away, eyes tightly shut to hold back the emotions, before lying back down to go back to sleep.
Gold eyes still remained open, ears picking up each sound, refusing to sleep until Kadell did.
He would have to wait a long time.
Gira had waited.
She had waited two days on account of Zaren getting a small fever from swimming in the lake. But now her son was better and playing with the other pups. Nothing was left to keep her away.
She went out in search of a cat demon.
Liolyn got dressed swiftly, ignoring the silver stare burning into the back of his scull.
"Where are you going?"
Liolyn tightened his boots, trying everything he could to keep them from leaking in snow. His eyes refused to look at the wolf, pretending that he didn't exist.
Kadell growled low, frustration creeping up on him. "Where are you going?"
Liolyn shot him a glare before leaving. "Like you care."
He pretended that he didn't hear the roar of restrained rage and sorrow.
Derek had one mission in life: become alpha.
But now his world and desires were changing drastically. He no longer focused on such a far off goal but one that was within grasp: make Moku love him.
And for that wonderful image that led to other not so clean images, he needed to do something big. He needed to be selfless and caring. He needed to find a way that would win over the melancholy boy for good.
But how?
Derek growled. It would have been so much easier if that included killing Kadell. At least it would be pleasant for him. He had a feeling that Moku wanted something from him that would endanger his own life, therefore proving to be selfless by putting Moku's needs before his. But he could always fake it by doing something that Moku really wanted and hope that by accomplishing whatever the boy fantasized about would give him some more Moku contact. He hated the touch dry spell Moku forced upon him after the drooling incident.
So he had to think... What did Moku want most in the world?
He asked all his friends, each one came up with the same answer but in different variations.
Raklyn to be gone.
Dead was optional but castrated would win Derek into Moku's bed. But that would include seeing a part his grandfather' anatomy that would traumatize Derek into being limp for life.
So the best option was to make him go away. But how? Raklyn had never done anything wrong to him. It was quite the opposite. There was nothing Raklyn wouldn't do for his grandson. It was almost like what Raklyn wanted most in the world, besides Kadell dead, was for Derek was to be happy.
He got an idea.
He could just hear Moku say, "It's a miracle."
Stupid puppy.
"You're not supposed to be out here alone. Don't you want to be with Kadell?"
Liolyn came to a stop and looked up at the female wolf. Silver eyes stared at him with a mixture of emotions. Gira leaned against a tree, arms crossed in front of her and legs at the ankle.
The cat demon looked away from the full blood. "I don't care."
Silver eyes narrowed. "Why?"
Golden eyes glared back angrily. "Because I hate him and can't be near him any longer!"
Gira seemed to have frozen. Several emotions flickered across her face before she placed her indifferent mask back on. "Why?"
Liolyn looked away and began to keep walking. He went to pass the wolf. "It doesn't matter anymore."
Gira caught his arm in a surprisingly strong hold. "Where are you going?"
Liolyn shrugged, testing her hold on his arm. "I don't know. Home, maybe? But I still have unfinished business up here so I don't know."
"Are you going to go back to Kadell when you're done?"
Liolyn wouldn't look at her. "No. I think not."
Her grip increased drastically. "But you have to."
Liolyn looked down at her hand, his arm starting to loose feeling. "No, I don't. Let go of me."
It happened so fast that Liolyn wasn't quite sure how it happened. One minute he was standing by her, the next he was slammed against the tree she was leaning on.
"Listen here, cat." Gira growled, eyes almost white. "You owe me. I got you your fucking toys off your stupid list and now you have to do what I asked for return. I don't care that you're pissed at Kadell for screwing Moku but you have to get him to come back. Do you understand? You will get him to go back."
Liolyn straightened to his full height, becoming level with Gira. "I don't have to do anything, Gira. You have no right to speak to me like that."
Gira took a step forward, inches away from the cat in a challenging manner. "I think I do, cat demon."
Golden eyes narrowed. "Do you know who I am? Do you know what I can do?"
Gira chuckled darkly, eyes flashing. "I know exactly what you are, Liolyn. Or should I call you Leo? Which one do you prefer, Prince of Cats?"
Liolyn smirked. "So you do know who I am. Great. Now you can help me. I'm looking for the wolf demon that killed my mother."
Gira's expression darkened. "You don't want to go down that path, Liolyn."
"Why not?"
"You don't understand. You are safe now. You are not hunted. The wolves think you're dead, Leo. They think that the full blood line of the cats is destroyed. It's the only win we have. If they find out that you're alive you'll be hunted until the end of your days. Be content with the life you have now, a life that doesn't have you looking over your shoulder after every step."
Liolyn's expression looked very sad. "I want my mother avenged. That's my only purpose anymore. I don't care if I die, as long as I take the bastard with me."
Gira backed away a little bit. "That's too bad, Liolyn, and it's very unfortunate that I am the one to tell you this. The wolf you're looking for is dead. He was killed in the last battle along with a thousand others. We're a broken people, Liolyn. Let us believe what we will."
Liolyn crossed his arms over his chest. "I don't believe you."
"Do I have a reason to lie to you?"
"You want me to convince Kadell to fight even though he doesn't wish to."
Gira's eyes narrowed. "I want Raklyn dead and I want my brother to do something about it."
Liolyn stared at her for a while before beginning to walk away. "I agree with Kadell on this one. If you want something done, Gira, do it yourself."
"Um... Grandfather?"
Raklyn picked up a sword, back to his grandson, and inspected it. "Please, Derek. You know you don't have to call me that."
Derek took a few more unsure steps into the cave where they stored all their weapons in case the cats ever come to finish them off. "Papa?"
Raklyn chuckled, running two fingers down the flat edge of the cold metal. "You haven't called me that since you were six. You must want something."
Derek eyed the weapon in his grandfather's hands, watching the blade flash in the light from a flickering torch. "That and... other things."
"Nearly two hundred years old and it's still sharp. Amazing." Raklyn twirled the blade, starting a complex exercise. "I take good care of these weapons, don't I Derek? I make sure they're sharp, in perfect condition, and-" The blade swished in the air and Derek froze as the blade pointed at his throat, centimeters from his skin. "I know how to use them." He smiled, tapping Derek's cheek with the flat edge. "What is it that you want?"
Derek's eyes were wide and he resisted trembling. His plan seemed like a good idea at the time but he wasn't six anymore. In a few months he'd be of age. He wondered how Raklyn's attitude towards him would change. "Um... I forgot?"
"Hn."
"Can I see the sword?"
"Sure." Raklyn offered the handle to the boy, the blade resting on his palms.
Derek took it, bouncing it in his hands to measure its weight.
Mission objective one: get all sharp objects out of Raklyn's hands. Completed.
"Papa-"
Raklyn picked up another sword, smiling again. "Care to spar?"
Derek was tempted, he hadn't done sword play in so long and he missed it, but he had a mission. But a worn out Raklyn was an easier Raklyn. He didn't have the energy to yell.
"Alright."
When Liolyn returned to the cave he found Kadell sitting on the bed with his head in his now bandaged hands. He resisted the urge to ask what was wrong and took off his snow caked boots. He stripped off the frozen shirt and rummaged for a different one.
"You're... you came back..."
Liolyn looked up at the wolf demon with an annoyed expression. "Oh course I did. Where else am I fucking supposed to go? To the other wolves? Oh yeah. That'll be pleasant. Almost as pleasant as being stuck with you."
He saw Kadell flinch and he was glad. He cheated on him. It was only fair... right?
"I thought you left." Kadell whispered. "Or the other wolves found you."
Liolyn pulled on a shirt, not liking being half naked with someone that he hated, or trying to hate. "I did run into Gira and she pissed me off, if that's any consolation. Did you know she can be a bitch?"
Kadell groaned. "What did she do now?"
"Well... first she kind of tried to threaten me. Actually she did. She said I owed her and that I needed to convince you to return to the other wolves."
Kadell snorted. "Sounds like Gira. What did you say?"
Liolyn flopped down on the toasty furs near the fire. He let out a purr, rubbing his body against them and rolling. "I told her that I agreed with you and that if she wanted something done then she should do it herself."
Kadell smiled at the cat, watching him nuzzle the warmed furs. He wanted to join him, roll with him, bite his ears like he used to. But he knew he would probably loose a limb if he tried that now. "I bet she took that well."
"I don't know. I left right after. She was being aggravating." Liolyn paused, low rumbling still coming from him. "What does she have against Raklyn, anyways?"
"Her oldest son died seven years ago. She thinks Raklyn did it."
"Did he?"
"I don't think so. It looked like an animal mauled him. It's not uncommon but Gira swears it was Raklyn. She has good right to too. Raklyn and Rune fought constantly. Rune wanted to be the next alpha and said that Raklyn was unfit for such a position. Raklyn argued that he led our army into numerous battles, winning the majority and knew my father the most. He said that because I didn't want the position then he had a right to it. And he also argued that when he is ready to back down then it should be Derek that will lead, being that he has the most Fang blood. During those times it wasn't uncommon for both Raklyn and Rune to have numerous wounds. They didn't argue with just words."
Liolyn gazed up at the ceiling, no longer purring. "What was the Fang like?"
Kadell looked at him curiously. "My father, Cerberus? Or the Wolf?"
"Cerberus."
Kadell ran a hand through his hair, thinking. "He was... I don't know. Gira says he was just like me but I don't know about that. In the battle field he was ruthless, violent, and didn't know the meaning of mercy. As a father he was distant with us when we were children. He left the caring of me with my mother and that's why I had to raise Gira. There was no one else to. And he hated the Tigress with a passion. He would do anything to see her suffer. The most gruesome battles I've ever seen were the ones where both were present. The army actually stopped to watch because it was also the most beautiful battles. The Tigress was graceful and merciless also. She looked like an-"
"Angel of Vengeance." Liolyn smiled sheepishly. "That's what my protector always described her as."
Kadell smiled. "That is the best name for her. If she was the angel then my father was a demon from hell. Neither of them ended their battle until both collapsed."
Liolyn rolled over and stared at him. "You were in the war, right?"
"Yes."
"So you know things about it, right?"
"... Yeah."
Golden eyes continued to stare at him, weighing his choices. He sat up and crawled over to Kadell.
The wolf demon didn't move, didn't even dare to blink, afraid he would jinx it. Liolyn slithered up to rest between his knees, hands on his thighs, forcing Kadell to sit up.
"Kahdahl... do you still want me?"
Kadell shivered, nosing Liolyn's hair. "Desperately."
Liolyn kept his head bowed, his voice a husky whisper. "And you want me to forgive you?"
"More than anything in the world." He breathed out his responses, Liolyn's hands sliding up and down his thighs. "Please-"
"I want to forgive you, Kahdahl." Liolyn breathed, his breath ghosting over Kadell's lips and making them part desperately. "I really do." His hands dipped in, thumbs sliding along the wolf's inner thighs.
"Lio..." Kadell whimpered, nuzzling the cat's face.
"But..." Liolyn place his fingertips on Kadell's arousal and the wolf groaned, bucking. He was shivering, trembling with desire. "You'll have to do something for me."
Kadell was too lost with a painful pleasure that jolted through his loins as Liolyn stroked with too gentle fingers. "Anything! Oh god, Lio!"
Liolyn let out a purr as Kadell cradled his neck with one hand, bringing his lips closer to the wolf's needy ones. "Tell me who killed the Tigress."
Derek was sweating now, exhausted and sore. Raklyn smiled proudly at him, panting heavily. "Very good, Derek. You're getting much better."
Derek placed the sword back with the others and Raklyn followed.
Silver eyes flickered to dark grey ones before saying hesitantly. "I came here to ask for something."
"So you've said." Raklyn sat against the adjacent wall, wiping the sweat from his brow with the back of his wrist. "And what is it that you need?"
Derek sat a few feet away, back to the weapons if he needed them. "It's actually a favor."
"What is it?"
Derek took a deep breath, calming his nerves. "Will you please not touch Moku?"
"What?"
"Could you... not... touch Moku?"
Raklyn's brows furrowed, confusion written over his face. "Alright. For how long? A couple days? A week or two?"
"Forever, actually."
Raklyn blinked a few times before breaking out in laughter. When he noticed how anxious Derek looked, he stopped. "You're serious?"
Derek nodded. "Yeah."
"You don't want to touch the boy ever again?"
"Basically."
"I don't think so."
Derek was taken aback. "Why not?"
"Because I don't want to. That boy is mine-"
"But he's my friend!" Derek pleaded. "And he really hates it! He's asked for me to do something and I can't refuse my friends. I've known him my whole life." A little white lie never hurt anyone. And it wasn't even lying. It was extension of the truth.
Raklyn inspected his grandson. "He asked you?"
Derek swallowed. "Well... yeah. Kind of. He... he's cried on my shoulder a few times."
Dark grey eyes swept over the boy again. "We'll see."
Derek heart leapt. "You're serious?"
Raklyn sighed, standing. "I said 'we'll see' not 'yes'. I'll think about it, alright?"
Derek leapt across the room and hugged his grandfather. "Thank you, papa!"
Raklyn ruffled his hair. "I know a thing or two of protecting long time friends. I went to war with mine. I risked my life for them but I watched them die all the same. It would be a pity to see you with that same pain that I suffered through."
Derek almost yipped like dog when his hair was ruffled but then he remembered that he wasn't six anymore or a dog. "I have to go! Thank you!"
Raklyn watched his grandson run out of the room before his smile left and his eyes hardened. He had a choice to make: his pleasure or his weapon. Which would benefit him in the long run?
Kadell froze, eyes staring wide into burning golden ones. "Wh-What?"
Liolyn suddenly cupped him hard, stroking demandingly and speech left the wolf demon. He moaned, grinding into the hand but his mind was desperately trying to grasp what Liolyn had just said.
"You want me, Kadell." Liolyn said, still stroking while he got up to straddle the other's lap. "I know you do. You're telling me so right-here!" Liolyn squeezed and Kadell gave a silent cry of pleasure. "Don't deny it. End this stupid fight and tell me what I want to know."
Kadell panted, an internal war raging in his head. He knew that he shouldn't-couldn't-tell Liolyn who it was he was looking for. He took an oath of silence like all the others to never tell. "I can't."
Liolyn scowled but quickly covered it up.
He removed his hand and Kadell let out a high pitched whine. The cat shifted his position, raising his legs and placing them over Kadell's shoulders. He thanked god for his flexibility as he wrapped his arms around the wolf's neck, pressing their bodies as close together as he could, knees sliding so that they hung over that spot on his shoulders right before they fell to his biceps. Kadell wrapped his arms around the cat, grasping his lower back.
Liolyn's lips were centimeters from Kadell's. He breathed, tongue flicking over them. "We've never done it in this position. You lift me, moving me on your lap. You control the speed, the strength of how I ride you. You'd like that, wouldn't you Kahdahl. Making me scream as I bounced on your lap, using me like a toy. It makes me quiver every time I visualize it. I'm so hard right now it hurts. Help me by answering me." His lips whispered against the wolf's. "Who killed my mother?"
Kadell almost cried, his length pulsing and painfully hard. He wanted to taste those lips, give in to this seductive creature. It was like dangling a thick, juicy steak in front of a starved, tethered animal because he bit him. It wasn't fair. Even he didn't deserve this.
"I can't, Lio!"
Liolyn let out a low, seductive whine, squirmed enticingly. "Don't you want me?"
Kadell pressed his face into Liolyn's neck, trying to escape this nightmare. "Yes but I can't tell you."
"Why not? You want me... you desire me... you love m-FUCK!"
Liolyn was roughly thrown off Kadell lap, landing on the floor painfully. He hissed up at the wolf but his voice got stuck when he saw his expression.
Kadell glowered down at him, breathing heavily, trembling with rage. "Don't you dare use my love for you against me!"
Liolyn glared back. "Well you toyed with my l-"
"YOU CAN'T DO THAT!"
Liolyn cowered, scared all the sudden. Kadell was mad, madder than he'd ever seen him. It frightened him, made him regret doing what he did.
Kadell continued, voice strained with an unknown emotion. "You don't get it! I have never loved anyone like this before in my entire life!"
Liolyn swallowed hard, trying to gain the control he had a few minutes ago. "But your mate-"
Kadell scoffed. "I could barely tolerate Xinala. She was so jealous of everything, even our own son! She knew I loved him more than I could ever love her and envied it, hated him for it. She was once caring towards Nali but then she started to use him, trying to manipulate me through him. And the more she tried to control me the less I could stand her and the more she simpered. Part of me begged for someone to challenge me for her but Gira wouldn't allow it. Gira had to have her friend safe." Something finally dawned on Kadell. "Did you tell Gira that I love you?"
Liolyn was still in shock from this revelation and started. "What?"
"Gira. Did you tell her anything about us?"
He shook his head negatively. "Only that I was pissed off. Why?"
Kadell exhaled slowly. "She always hated the fact that I never loved Xinala but deluded herself with the thought that the reason I didn't mate again was because I did have feelings for the girl. Fucking is one thing, loving you is an entirely different matter. She would have attempted to kill you."
"What?! That's-that's... Why?!"
"Because she likes getting her way. I spoiled her. I think she likes to control people. She gets quite... violent. Too much rage pent up." Grey eyes closed with exhaustion. "There is something that happens to a mother that has watched her child die numerous times. Only two of ten children remain, not to mention miscarriages and stillborns. She snaps and you just have to watch out for who she lashes out at."
Gira stalked into the cave, rage pulsing through her body. Her eyes slowly turned to a blazing white as her thoughts swirled together.
Do it yourself, they say. Always the same thing. Do it herself. Why does she have to do it? She had things to loose. She had a child to protect. Kadell had nothing. Liolyn was using him. She had loved ones.
Do it herself.
White irises landed on a multicolored haired wolf and narrowed.
Raklyn.
He killed her son.
Killed.
He wanted to kill her new son.
No.
No! She wouldn't allow it! NO! ZAREN!
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Her fist slammed into something hard, her vision blind. She brought her other fist to meet the object, her eyes trained on her victim.
Do it herself.
That's all she ever heard.
Well now she was fucking doing it!
She roared, punching over and over again. She was straddling the older wolf, watched with rage filled eyes as her fist made contact with the wolf's face. Someone was trying to get her off. But no! She wouldn't allow it! LET GO!
She heard her name distantly but she didn't care. She wanted to kill the bastard, wanted him gone. He was exactly where she wanted him: weak, defenseless, too shocked to do something.
She will kill him!
Kill him!
Someone grabbed her around the waist and hauled her off. She screamed with agony as her prey was torn from her hold and slammed her elbow back.
She heard the crunch of a nose being broken and leapt at Raklyn again but he was prepared.
He caught her and threw her to the ground but she wouldn't be stopped so easily. Not now! Not ever!
She roared inhumanly and kicked hard. He doubled over, the wind knocked out of him and she surged up with the wrath of every desperate woman, claws sinking into his arm and teeth into his shoulder. Blood filled her mouth and it felt so good.
Her back arched as claws slashed into her back, almost severing her spinal cord but she was a full blood. She couldn't be so easily broken.
She released her prey to round on the new attacker, deadly claws flexed and slashing, ripping his arm when he brought it up to shield his face.
"GIRA!"
Adrex was grabbing her, throwing her back. She saw his blood pouring from his nose but she couldn't connect it. She was pacing, pacing like the caged animal she was. She was snarling, roaring, eyes never leaving Raklyn.
He glared at her murderously, blood pouring from his wounds.
"GIRA!"
Her eyes snapped to her mate's furious ones again and she growled low.
"Walk it off, Gira! Go!"
She turned around, not knowing why she was listening. The predator within her told her it was her prey was out of grasp but the female said it was because she loved him.
But the rage was not quenched. There was something more, something else.
She caught a scent and slowed.
White eyes rose and met frightened blue and she knew somehow it was Moku's fault. He wouldn't leave her brother alone. He tempted him. He made Liolyn go away. Her chance was gone.
Before she could stop herself she was charging, blood ringing in her ears. Her claws flexed once again as she leapt, rising them.
Something collided with her and she tumbled down and crashed into the wall, her assailant yards away.
With a threatening growl, she rose up, white eyes meeting enraged silver.
Derek met her venomous glare with one of his own, growling back. His claws were flexed, body trembling with suppressed rage.
This she knew very well.
They clashed, roaring and out for blood. Claws sliced into skin, ripping leather. Fangs sunk into anything. They didn't bother with fists. They were two predators, fighting for the same thing: protecting the one they loved.
Gira foot slammed into Derek's gut and the boy stumbled back but did not fall, blood dripping from his claws, unsure whose it was.
Gira went to attack again but strong arms grabbed her, threw her to the ground, pinning her there. A leather strap bound her wrists together and she was tossed over her mate's shoulder, screaming and roaring, struggling for dear life.
Derek moved to go after them but Sire grabbed him and threw him back. Derek roared at him but hard amber eyes met his.
He spat blood at Sire's feet before limping away, blood flowing freely from his wounds.
Silver eyes immediately sought out Moku and found him looking terrified. He offered a cocky smile and Moku almost collapsed, eyes looking at the amount of blood that was dripping from the full blood's limbs.
But Derek's smile fell as silver eyes went to Raklyn who was studying their interaction very closely. Dark grey eyes narrowed, devious mind putting things together. A malevolent grin spread across his lips as he stared straight into Derek's gaze as if to say 'I know your secret' before looking directly at Moku.
Moku backed away until his back hit the wall. He clutched the stone before tearing away like a scared rabbit, sprinting down one of tunnels that Derek knew led to the back exit.
He made an effort to go after him but collapsed, wounds throbbing painfully. He let one of the wolves tend to him but he kept his eyes on Raklyn and Katsu, making sure they didn't do anything.
But he was weakening, exhaustion taking over. The adrenaline rush was ending and his head throbbed.
He passed out, dread filling him right before the peaceful blackness took over his mind.
