Chapter one: The End
Arros groaned and stood slowly, she opened her eyes but couldn't see anything.
"Wha-?"
She tripped over something and lay in... Was that mud? She inhaled softly taking in the smoky air slowly. What was that metallic taste on her tongue? Was someone crying for help in the distance? Oh god I hurt so much. She thought to herself curling into a ball.
Her vision began to come back in spots revealing what was around her. She choked and scrabbled away from the torn and bloody corpse that was staring at her. She looked around wildly, a tank was in smoldering ruins nearby, bodies strewn everywhere like discarded rags. She looked down and nearly shrieked; the mud wasn't mud. It was dirt mixed in blood.
She shuddered and jumped up, wincing and looking down at herself. She didn't look to be injured at all... Wait... Whose robe am I wearing? She raised an arm looking at the old brown fabric, it was far too big for her and the pendant she had around her neck was heavy. She wrapped a clawed hand around the pendant to look at it. A moon with stars wrapped around it. After a few seconds, she figured the robe was better than what she had underneath it. She opened the front of it and checked her nude form slowly. Tattoos? When did I get tattoos? Her claws traced the Drakine symbols etched into her scales for a moment before she wrapped herself back in the robe the wind becoming far too cold.
Arros looked around and blanched nearly losing the contents of her stomach. She had to get away from here even the smell was getting to her. She staggered away from the, the... battlefield. That was the only way to describe it, a battlefield. But all of the bodies had the same uniforms on. She took deep breaths trying to calm herself. She came over a small rise and she saw another dragon in a robe like hers. She was unconscious, though looked completely unharmed. The bodies were arranged in a slightly circular pattern around her.
Arros looked down at the red dragon. It stirred and stood slowly, Arros began to slink away from it before she saw two more cloaked figures coming towards her. One was a blue hawk, the other was a grey... something. They hurried over towards Arros the grey thing waving at the red dragon to join them. Arros recognized the hawk as she got closer.
"Erika!?" She ran to the hawk as fast as she could, "Erika!"
Erika staggered as the dragon ran into her wrapping her arms around her shaking form gently,
"Erika, thank god..." Arros looked up at the hawk, "Please tell me I'm dreaming, and that none of this is real."
Erika shook her feathered head slowly,
"I don't think so deary..." The hawk glanced around, "Though I would like to know what's going on."
The grey... lizard... it was a lizard right? Spoke up,
"Both of your guesses are as good as mine, but whatever the case, we should probably all try to get away." The lizard nodded to the red dragon as it came up to the three others, "Greetings."
The dragon grunted,
"We should all leave." It looked around slowly, "Unless whatever killed these men comes back."
They all agreed and began to walk west towards the setting sun. They didn't know they were being watched, but they also didn't know that they were the thing that killed more than half of the Arcadian army.
. . .,
Arros looked across the fire the four had built at the lizard and dragon, both were female, and all four of them had the same necklaces, and robe. They were all the same, and yet different. Arros dropped her cloak, she would have blushed at the lack of clothing but as it was she was still too shocked by the recent spectacle earlier that day. The other three followed suit it was a hot night, the fire was just to deter bears or what-have-you and also for the light. She stretched before nodding towards the lizard.
"Well, apparently we're all connected to this somehow, so we might as well get to know each other. I'm Arros Deahl, and this is my friend Erika." She leaned against the larger hawks feathers and smiled up at her.
Erika glanced down at her but didn't say anything. The grey lizard spoke next,
"I'm Gruth. Or legend, it depends on who you ask." She shrugged, "I guess legend is my last name."
The red dragoness spoke next, she had an odd accent,
"I'm Talenth... Talenth Ranas." She looked at the other three for a moment before looking back down into the fire her gaze not really fixed on anything.
Erika finally spoke, her voice was deep for a female,
"Am I the only one who notices we all have the same tattoos?" she was silent for a brief second, "Do any of you remember getting them? I don't."
Arros shook her head.
Gruth sighed,
"No. I don't like how they look against my scales."
Talenth was silent still staring into the distance, the other three glanced at her for a moment before Gruth started speaking again.
"This is a really random question. And probably something I shouldn't ask you two until I know you better, but my curiosity has the best of me." She cocked her head to one side, "Are you two lesbian?"
Arros blushed heavily as Erika laughed, it was Erika who answered,
"Yes. Arros is my lover, and I, hers." She brushed her beak against Arros' muzzle gently, "Think what you will, but it changes nothing."
Gruth shrugged,
"Just curious, the way she clings to you."
Arros bristled,
"I'm not clin-"
Erika bit down on her muzzle silencing the dragoness,
"Yes you are dear. It's okay."
She laughed as Arros growled but subsided.
"So what now? I mean, apparently there's something loose. It killed all those soldiers. What if we're next?"
Gruth shook her head,
"I've no idea. I guess we should keep heading west, my hometown it about forty more miles away. We could get some new duds there at least. And I think we'd be safe in the city." She sighed, "Whatever the case, I think we should stick together, we're all associated somehow."
Arros nodded,
"Definitely. Something about these tattoos makes me shiver." She traced one that went from her bellybutton all the way down to her sex, "They're all draconian symbols." She looked at the back her hand palm and her palm, "The Destroyer, The Seer, The Regulator, The Shield, The Redeemer, The Healer, and The Entity." She touched each tattoo as she named them, "And we all have them exactly the same. I don't quite remember the old mythology, but I believe these were all the symbols of the various Draconian gods."
Gruth looked down at herself and traced the one from under her bellybutton. She reached her sex and spread her lips gently seeing the tattoo was on her inner labia as well,
"That's disgusting. How the fuck do I not remember getting these?" She sighed, "And why do I have to have one that goes all the way down there?"
Arros shrugged,
"They're holy symbols at least, it could be worse. You could have a skull tattooed on your privates."
Erika laughed and Gruth shivered,
"It's disturbing enough that someone apparently shoved a tattoo gun up my cunt."
Talenth looked up from the fire for a second,
"No. No tattoo gun was used for these. That much I can say without a doubt," She paused, "The old rituals were invoked upon us. Though who knows enough about them to actually perform them correctly, I know not." She went back to staring into the fire.
Gruth pointed at Talenth,
"Well apparently you know something of these tattoos! Why don't you tell us instead of staring into the fire eh?"
Talenth looked up at Gruth,
"I just know what draconic legend has told me." She paused for a second, "Each tattoo is a blessing from the different draconic gods. Each one holds a different power. I know not what the powers are." She held up a hand as Gruth started to say something, "There is a legend of four.... Destroyers, each with all of the gods' blessings, or in the case of the destroyers curses." She shrugged, "That's all I know in a nutshell."
Gruth made an annoyed noise,
"So why are you zoning out like you don't care about any of this then?"
"Because I don't." The other three all looked at her waiting for her to continue, "My son just joined the military, and it worries me. And then this from my branch..."
"What do you mean 'your' branch?" Erika asked.
Talenth pointed to a tattoo none of the others had,
"This is a plain old tattoo. Military. I'm the head of our prototype research and development facilities. Or I was..." She looked away, "Some college professor, a wolf by the name of Eli kicked me out with some thesis papers from one of his students." She shook her head, "I'm was reduced to a grunt. Last thing I remember before coming here was getting into a fight with Eli. We were both shouting accusations at each other. I think he drugged me after that, and then did..." She looked down at her nude form cover in the tattoos, "...this..."
Gruth shrugged,
"Shit happens I guess. I was arrested for robbery and sexual assault, last I remember was my jail cell." The lizard turned to Arros and Erika, "How about you two? What's the last thing you remember before waking up in the battlefield?"
Arros blushed hard and Erika half-laughed.
"Well!?" Gruth pressed.
"I'd rather not say..."Arros cheeped timidly.
Erika laughed,
"Sex... Good sex at that."
Gruth grunted,
"Ah." She shifted a little uncomfortably, "Well, I'm beat! Gnite all!" With that she grabbed her robe and wrapped up in it and promptly fell asleep by the fire.
Talenth nodded,
"She has the right idea." The red dragon followed suit wrapping up in her cloak and falling asleep.
Erika and Arros sat there for a moment. Arros jumped as Gruth began to snore.
She giggled quietly,
"That one's sexy. Did you see her breasts!? They're so perky!"
Erika laughed and poked the blue dragoness,
"Pervert. You're just jealous because you don't have any. But yes I saw them, hard to miss when she's not wearing anything."
"Mmm, maybe." The blue dragoness leaned against the hawk lightly and ran a hand over the birds smaller breasts, "If I had them I'd want little ones like yours though."
Erika shivered lightly,
"So what of Talenth? No comment on her?"
Arros made a face,
"Too much muscle. She looks like she should be playing football! Blaugh!"
Erika laughed,
"She doesn't have much more than you, her curves just aren't as pronounced as yours." The bird nibbled on the dragon's ear softly. "Her nethers have an attractive shape to them though"
"Yeah, you're always going on about my curves. And you call me a pervert, at least I wasn't eyeing their twats." The dragoness smiled and flicked her ear before looking up at the hawk, "I love you, Rika."
"I love you to Ros." The two kissed briefly, before they too wrapped up in their robes together for sleep. Arros ground herself lazily against the hawk's rump gently. The hawk swatted at her,
"Not now you horny thing! Sleep."
Arros sighed softly and hugged the hawk close and closed her eyes. She curled her tail around and gently pressed it forwards into her own folds stifling a hiss as she shoved it as far up into herself as she could. She wriggled it a little inside of her and purred softly, satisfied with the full feeling she fell asleep with her tail still stuck deep into her privates as she slept.
