"We have to get out of here." I say. I don't worry about the guards hearing us, seeing the muffle spell is still in effect.
"What? You can't be serious" The Khajiit says glumly.
"I'm completely serious. You and me, we can get out of here no problem."
"How? We'll never get past the guards."
"You told me yourself; you got into the Jarl's treasury without getting caught. You can just cast a muffle spell on me and we're fine."
"Okay, well how do we get out of this cage?"
I think for a second, "You can pick the lock. You said you were good at that, too."
"Well I could if I had something to pick the lock with."
"What do you need? Maybe we can find something useful around here."
He's silent for a minute, and I start to think he won't answer, but then he says: "It won't work, but if I had to try, I'd need two things that are narrow to fit in the lock, but strong so that they won't break easily."
"Can't you just use your claws?"
He sits upright. "They aren't strong enough. My claws were made for cutting flesh, not picking locks."
I think some more, and hand him my paws.
"Here, use mine. Dog's claws are stronger than a cat's, just not as sharp."
"Are you sure?"
"Got any better ideas?"
He doesn't reply, but instead gets dressed, and I do the same. We both head to the door. He crouches in front of it and me next to him.
"Here, get behind me and reach your arms around so I can use your claws."
I do as he says. I find myself blushing at the closeness, but Ty'gra is too focused on the task at hand to feel anything. He takes my paws in his, puts my short, curved claws into the lock, and turns them in different directions. It feels weird, picking a lock when someone else uses your claws to do it. After a few minutes, the lock clickes, and Ty'gra relaxes.
Now for stage two.
He's about to open the door, thinks better of it, than castes the muffle spell on it before opening. He turns and casts the same spell on me. Ty'gra then goes into a low crouch and signals me to follow. We skirt the blind in front of the door and continue. We traverse the extensive hallways in silence. We're about to round a corner when Ty'gra comes to a halt.
"I think there is a guard over there" he whispers, "but I'm not sure. Now I really wish I learned that detect life spell."
Like before with Ty'gra's name, something in my mind clicks. I close my eyes, but in the darkness, I can see a light blue Shape in the form of Ty'gra, exactly where he is standing! I open my eyes and everything returns. Close them again, and I see only the blue form of Ty'gra. But as I focus, I can also see a faint red shape through the wall.
"I think it's safe. Let's-"
"There is one guard sitting in a chair," I interrupt, "he appears to be asleep."
"How did you-" he starts, but he's interrupted, by a loud snore coming from the guard. "Never mind, just stay quiet."
He peaks over the wall. The guard is asleep. Ty'gra starts off, signaling me to follow. We sneak by the guard who doesn't wake. We head into the next room, which has a chest in it, labeled "Prisoner Belongings". Ty'gra and I both look at the chest simultaneously, and a grin slowly spreads across our faces.
"I see nothing wrong with borrowing from a bunch of bad thieves and murderers." He says
"Right, and if we come across the rightful owners during our travels, we can return them." We open the chest and are not displeased. It's filled to the brim with armor, weapons, gold, and numerous other things. We split the gold 50/50. He takes out some brown clothes, boots, gloves, and a hood.
"This is the armor the Thieves Guild gives its members." He tells me. "Maybe you should join."
"If you get to do stuff like this all the time, count me in!"
I look through all the armor, but the only thing I can find that will fit me is a set of steel plate armor... without any leggings. So with a sigh, I take it. I have to keep the ragged pants that Ralof first gave me for lack of anything else. I look strange with bulky steel armor on my chest and old loose pants.
As far as weapons go, Ty'gra takes a pair of steel daggers and I find a warhammer. I try lifting it, but it's too heavy to swing comfortably. I take a steel sword and hide shield instead.
We also find a satchel full of poisons and potions and five books, which Ty'gra tells me are spell tomes.
"All you have to do is read them and you learn the spell." He says, "But as soon as you're done, it vanishes."
The covers of the books read: Flames, Healing, Conjure Familiar, Oakflesh, and Clairvoyance. After a short discussion, I take the spells and Ty'gra gets the potions. We split the remaining goods; some lockpicks, a few jewels and jewelry, and a couple of Traveler's Maps, which are magic maps that update themselves as you travel.
We head toward the door at the end of the room. It's unlocked, and soon we're free once more.
The sun is just beginning to rise, so it is still dark enough to cover us. Helgen is a very big place, with many stone walls, towers, and homes.
We start to walk toward the town's south entrance when Ty'gra hears people walking in this direction. I close my eyes and focus again, and sure enough, I see a row of red figures coming this way.
"A bunch of guards," I whisper, "probably patrolling the area."
We hide behind a very dense bush and wait for them to pass. As I'm waiting, I take out one of the spell tomes, the one that says "Clairvoyance". I start to read it. There isn't much to read, but when I'm done, it disappears into a puff of smoke. I don't feel any different, but I decide to try it out anyway. I hold out my hand, focus energy into it, and say "Clairvoyance". All of a sudden, the world fades.
I see a dragon. A huge black one, attacking Helgen. Everything is destroyed, everyone is killed.
I'm back with Ty'gra. I tell him what I saw.
"We have to warn them."
