I opened my eyes, letting the darkness of my room fill them. I looked to my right, finding the source of the buzzing that woke me. I snoozed the alarm and locked at the clock. Six AM. I looked back at my watch and read the date. February 29, 2012. It was my birthday. I reluctantly stood up, grabbed my towel and went to the shower. I turned on the water and let it flow through my body, letting it wake my muscles up. After showering and changing, I headed to the kitchen to eat breakfast. By now my parents had left for work, leaving me alone to wait for the bus. Before I left for school I looked at myself in the mirror. What I saw was what I saw everyday. I 17 year old guy named George Newell, I have black hair and brown eyes standing at about 5'9". I have always hated how I look. I have never considered myself to be handsome and that has been depressing me lately. For the last year I have yearned for a mate but the problem is that I am gay and I haven't meet any other gay guys around my age. And then there is the fact that I haven't told my parents, which makes it even harder. Either way it didn't matter. I kept feeling that no man would find me attractive in the slightest.  With that note I walked out the bathroom and headed outside, locked the door to my house and waited for my bus. When it arrived, I climbed up and took my set. I took a deep breath and prepared myself for the long day to come.

School was a drag as it always was. The only class that I am ever looking forward to is Computer Science since it was the only thing that I was good at. Plus my friend Alice and I were in the same period so I always had a chance to talk to her about something completely random that somehow always ended in laughter. Other than that my life was pretty boring to the point that it was annoying. There was never any excitement in my life but I had gotten used to it.Since it was my birthday, my whole family would visit me and throw me a party. But of course it never seemed to be a party for me. It always seemed to be an excuse for my family to stuff themselves with whatever dish my parents decided to cook. So every year I would just sit down at the dinner table, listening to the pointless conversations that the adults had. This year was no different.  As I listened to the endless rants that came from each of my relatives, I decided that I would try and escape this situation, at least for a little while. I stood up and headed for our basement. Once there, I took a deep breath and let my mind and ears rest. I always loved coming down here. It was almost completely silent. The sound from upstairs always had trouble penetrating down to the basement. I always came here to relax, to think, to reflect. It was my safe haven if you will. And as I always did, I sat down on the floor, took a deep breath and just relaxed. But my relaxation was cut short by the sound of what resembled a electrical shortage. I quickly got up and searched for the source of the distrubance. I heard it again, this time hearing it near our laundry room. I sprinted towards it and what I saw startled me.I saw a ripple of blue and white light that was shooting out what seemed like lightning. Yet, instead of running far far away from where I was, I was strangley tempted to touch it. Which is exactly what I did. If I were to tell someone what came next, they would have deemed me insane.  I was pulled forwards by an unknown force. Then everything went dark. I felt my insides move and churn as if I was inside a washing machine. Then as quickly as it began it ended. The light filled my eyes once again. It took me what seemed like hours to shake off the confusion and disorientation and with the confusion shaken off, I noticed that I wasn't at my house anymore.I was now in an open field that seemed to be miles long and wide. Nevertheless I could tell that it was surrounded by a dense forest. The field wasn't as open as one may think, though. There was thousands and thousands of what I was pretty sure were knights. Two factions, by the looks of it, were fighting one another with sword and shield. Then I noticed the thousands of dead bodies lying motionless, their blood staining the earth red.I was having a hard time registering what was going on. I was no longer in my house and I was staring at what seemed as a medieval battle. It didn't help that a loud and might roar emerged behind me. I turned my head so quickly that it cracked. What I saw made me fall back on the earth.  I was regarding a monstrous creature with red scales that resembled the stains on the earth created by the distant battle. It had large claws that seemed to be able to slash through you by just looking at them. Its head resembled the head of a large alligator or some kind of reptile, the only difference being that his head had long and pure white horns. I could see smoke rise from its nostrils and fire dancing in its maw. I blurted out one word..."Dragon"
