A Trainer's Tale - Chapter 8: Getting By
A Trainer's Tale Chapter 8: Getting by Nancy began tapping her fingers against her morning coffee nervously. It had been two weeks. TWO WEEKS! Two weeks since... Ian had gone missing. The only clue to his disappearance was a note saying he would be back by the morning. Nancy knew her son liked to take walks in the forest so she sent a search party. No luck. Right now she began to stare out the window as the rain fell. Melody began to walk downstairs as she heard her mother begin to cry. Right now her brother was missing and presumed dead. She still had hope though. Her mom had, since his disappearance, cried all the time, much similar to that when her husband left or so Ian had told her. But where was he? She really didn't know. Maybe he just needed a breather or something. What if he was just playing that pokemon game too long and forgot about everything else in the world. No - He would've starved. Truth was... She missed him. She missed her son. She missed his smile, his goofy humor. His laugh. His optimism. She just missed him. And the way he used to play with her. She missed her brother. When he helped her with her homework. His smarts. When he talked about his latest pokemon. She missed when he hugged her. "M-Mom?" Melody asked. Not wishing to upset her daughter, Nancy put on a brave face "I'm fine sweety, just thinking about your... y-your brother." Nancy began to break down again. Melody hated seeing her mom like this. Right now Nancy had taken her vacation days to cope with the dilemma. "Uh, mom, I'm gunna go take a walk. Are you going to be okay?" Melody asked to which her mother just nodded "Okay mom, bye" Melody said before heading out the door. She started to walk through the woods, all the while stepping on branches. She continued until reaching a large tree. Slumping against it, she began to then think about all the great times she had with her brother. Looking around, she saw something strange: A gameboy. Wait... A gameboy! Not just any gameboy... It was her brother's! Grabbing it and looking it over, she noticed something: There was no Ian attached to it. What did this mean exactly? Was he near here? Did the game have something to do with it? Getting up, she began to run back to the house: This must mean something! while running, she had a bit of a smile. She was going to see her brother again! This was the clue! "Mom! Mom! Look what i found!" Melody yelled "Y-yes dear?" Nancy asked, not turning around. Seeing Melody's face and knowing she was having trouble getting through this. "Mom! Look! Turning around" Melody asked grabbing her mother's shoulder and forcing her to look at her. Finally she turned around to a young girl holding a gameboy. A gameboy... Wait... Ian's gameboy! How'd she get it? "M-Melody... how'd, where'd..." Nancy trailed off as she gazed at the toy "I found it in the woods mom! It must mean he's in there! We've got to keep searching!" Melody yelled hoping to snap her out of her trance "You found it in the woods?" Nancy asked as Melody nodded "Then we've still got to search for him! But the police will just think we're wasting their time on a hopeless cause." Nancy said as Melody listened wide-eyed. The police had already searched once and she knew they wouldn't twice. Soon the mother and daughter began to make plans of going into the forest everyday and searching. They were going to camp out and look with a Map, a tent and other camping supplies. They were getting excited, Thrilled even! they were going to find Ian!
Inside a hotel room, a 16-year-old's eyes shot open. He felt a weird feeling in his gullet and needed some fresh air. Stepping out to the balcony, he breathed in the air and looked over Mauville city. After the whole trip on Route 110, he'd been spacing out a little TOO much. Not just of his worrying defeating Wattson, but of Witt as a whole. Who was he? How did he know him? Who was she? As he looked out, he felt an odd presence, like something was... watching him. Thats because i AM watching you, you goof! Ian began to look around. You can't see me, i'm too far even if i wasn't invisible. Invisible? "Who... Are you? The person Witt said i was to meet?" Witt met you, Did he? Well yes, i am and i can't reveal my identity to you just yet. It's not that i don't trust you, it's just everything must take its time. "What does that mean?" Ian asked All in due time... She gave him those fleeting words before disappearing. Who was she? She obviously wasn't human, So what was she? "Wait! Tell me what you mean!" He began to look back out to the city again until a certain voice snapped him out of it. "Who're you talking to?" He heard a masculine voice say. "Oh, hey Dean, What're you doing out here?" Dean thought a moment before responding "I could ask you the very same question" Ian gave a laugh "Oh you know, just... thinking." Ian said as he leaned over the railing and looked out into the city "About?" "Oh you know... just... thinking about how we're going to be... Getting by." This time it was the kadabra's turn to laugh "Aren't we all" He said quietly. "Yeah... I guess we all are..." Ian said a little sadly. Not wanting to dampen the mood, he tried to change the subject "So appearantly your names getting out there. I heard some pokemon talking about this trainer who 'Totally destroyed Roxanne and Brawly and foiled Team Aqua's plans.'" "Heh, I guess it is" "So, what do you think you would of done if you hadn't become a trainer?" Dean asked. Ian hadn't really thought about this: He'd probably have the same boring life as before. Being a trainer was just so exciting! He could tell he had a natural talent for it. "Probably just some boring job." Ian said a little glum Now Dean felt bad. He didn't mean to upset his trainer "Uh, Ian, I'm going to go back to bed. You should too." Dean said as he headed inside, giving one look back at the boy. Ian just kept there, dare not moving. It was somehow peaceful being all alone. But he should probably go back to bed, tommorow was going to be along one: Battling Wattson. But he just kept there, Looking at the city. End of Chapter 8
Chapter 8. This was a little emotional connection between Dean and Ian, which i really liked writing. I've noticed that i mostly get things through by dialouge. Next chapter will also be short, but after that i WILL make much longer chapters.
