Flower of the Northern Front, III.

Though young teen, originally posted as cub on inkbunny a while back, that version still exists there.
Alcaeus, a broad but gentle-hearted wolf, sat among the few who remained gathered in the meal area and idly toyed with the cold egg-and-bread salad that was supposed to be his 'breakfast'. The past night, a cadre of the soldiers took part telling stories and getting drunk. As their stories and hearts got carried away, so too did the hour. So, that the array of those late to breakfast was almost a perfect head count from those festivities was no surprise.
Alcaeus took a sip of chilly water from his dull metallic mug and resolved to swallow another bite. The silver flecks accenting his naturally tan fur glimmered hopefully to another sunny morning. But, when the tepid breakfast slop began down his throat, his stomach turned over with equal hopelessness, and he regurgitated onto his own plate. He coughed, swallowed, cleared his throat, and looked down at the ruined meal as the other wolves around began to erupt in an amused hoot reminiscent of the night before. He growled at the pathetic plate; "Gr...Fuck It!"
Among the laughing, a large brown beast stood easily the largest and loudest. He was the type of character who held a vague determination and self-assurance in every motion, and whose presence, intelligence, and brotherliness tended well to the leadership of other soldiers. His fur was nearly monochromatic, near-black umber - the darker patches tracing down his chest, belly. "Still learning to swallow, young lad? I can help teach," the figure's gruff voice belted, still chuckling and smiling derisively at the ailing Alcaeus. His morning breath smelled of alcohol - seldom hungover, he was already drinking again.
Muddled in hangover, he merely dismissed his comrade; "Oh piss off, Hakon!"
A few of the soldiers chuckled. "What, no taste for food or jokes this morning, I see, pansy?" Hakon replied right back, punching Alcaeus' on the shoulder endearingly. The sandy wolf cracked a weary half-grin at the fraternal gesture. As the other warrior spoke on, he lit himself a small fik to puff on.
"Well, in that case I'd suggest a fuck, but, you know..." Hakon trailed off. His maw again peeled into a smug grin. Alcaeus snorted loudly.
"Yeah, yeah, we all know..." After a small drag, he spit onto the ground.
"It's not like anyone else here gets much action either, here" he continued in retort.
Now it was Hakon who snorted. "You'd think that, but, is that so?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Alcaeus insisted.
"Well..." - the umber wolf pointed his stout nose down the way. There were a few soldiers as well, but Alcaeus knew immediately what he was implying as he followed Hakon's gaze to the small figure fetching water for his love's laundry down the way - the beautiful little foxyote whom Gloebis had recently demanded be kept as a servant.
"You can't be thinking what I see in your eye."
"Oh, and why not?" - Hakon had a daring grin and an entrepreneurial eye. Before noble Alcaeus could offer more than a muffled growl of disapproval, Hakon spoke on: "It's not like our Li'ka didn't already beat us to the punch."
"Beat you to the punch", the other wolf corrected him adamantly.
"Yes that's right, I always forget you have no taste."
Alcaeus was reduced to scoffing silently. The few others listening to their verbal joust laughed aloud and sided tacitly with the larger, darker, and stronger comrade. Hakon held rank on him as well - even if they were all equals. Hakon's rank was not one of title, but of the most eternal kind, an experience recognized in the eyes and opinions of others. Only Lord Dutero's words held more weight in the general's absence. Nothing could wipe Hakon's smug grin off his face but for cowardice and defeat.
"Surely you jest," the sandy wolf at last pressed. "Tornis' stupid rumors are light as fog, you couldn't trust them."
"I have reason to believe they're accurate, this time anyway." The dire wolf's deep voice trailed off into a low murr as he watched young Anatoly bend over to pick up a dropped piece of Gloebis' laundry.
"Mmm, the things I'd do to that boy..." he fantasized, licking his lips.
"Li'ka Gloebis would never allow it; he would see you reprimanded," Alcaeus added sternly. Hakon cut him off, half-snarling and lacking his former fraternal humor.
"Li'ka Gloebis knows damn well that we live by a code here, regardless of rank, of equality among brothers. Now, I'm sure we'd all love to have some special sweety to share our bed with, but we are denied that....and Gloebis gets his own personal love boy...and then he hides the beauty from his comrades, selfishly; lies between his teeth about the pup, even when we can all smell more Gloebis under that tail some mornings than Anatoly himself." - and he grunted.
His shouting quieted both Alcaeus and the other men. Before, Hakon had been joking. But the more he argued with his prudish compadre the more he wanted to pursue. It was almost like a dare now, between him and his reprimanding friend.
"Besides," he added, taking advantage of the silence, "I believe Lord Dutero and the others would agree; if Gloebis gets such privileges, so should his brothers, right? Even if his heart does not like it, the Li'ka's job is to side with justice."
The small crowd of gathered wolves for the most part silently agreed, convinced both by Hakon's words and faintly devious hopes.
Alcaeus was prepared to argue again: "But we all took a vow to protect the weak - not to exploit them!"
Hakon shrugged. "What makes you so certain I'm gonna' hurt the little guy? Aren't we protecting him now every time we put our lives out there on the line - Me as well as Gloebis? Don't we feed him?"
He stopped and grinned. The foxyote pup was out of view, down the stream a ways. "In fact - suit yourself, pansy, but I am going to go talk to the boy right now." He promptly began walking away.
Alcaeus followed a bit and shouted at Hakon offended, "He's just a pup! He's frightened around anyone but Gloebis!"
Hakon turned his head back to reply a last time, already walking as the word finished departing his lips: "So?"
His voice continued, getting fainter as he kept walking away, "How many times, in war, have you been afraid?...besides, I was hoping to help him get more comfortable..."
Alcaeus didn't need to physically see it to know Hakon kept an almost giddy grin as he hunted for the shy flower, the object of his desire.

Down at the stream, Anatoly had filled his bucket and was, per usual, taking a moment to enjoy the peaceful roar as the water careened down its rocky channel; from its citadel in the mountains above towards the sea. Radiating from its turbulence at the base of a small falls, a cool mist rose, hovered, and fell upon the quaint gravel shore. It was in this mist that the youthful foxyote wet his muzzle, passively smiling at the world.
He'd been lonely two nights since Gloebis departed, and the pup was anxiously looking forward to seeing his protector again. His slender paws squished in the soft mud along the shoreline as he turned around to walk back. A distinctive plodding could be heard approaching; one of the wolves from camp. Thinking nothing of this, Anatoly began to walk out from the stream's angled channel and towards camp. In his paws he held the full water bucket, which he tried to keep still as the water sloshed around with each step.
For the pup, Hakon seemed to just appear out of the brush. The young foxyote knew the large, distinguished ebon dire wolf only by sight; so, when he appeared in front of him the boy flinched a little and water splashed onto his muddy paws. Hakon let out a slight chuckle and grinned expectantly down at the pup, who gave a cautious smile back. Butterflies began to dance in the younger's belly.
"Hey, pup."
"Hi," Anatoly replied sweetly. Though the other men made him anxious, Gloebis had promised all were upstanding. None, he likewise promised, would lay a paw on him if he wished otherwise. Yet supposedly, none of the men knew fully the extent of Gloebis's promises to him either and that didn't seem to be the case anymore. Hakon's voice had a uniquely intimidating rumble to it. It was like Gloebis's - having both experience and confidence. Yet, the darker dire wolf managed to possess in himself a special gruffness in which unspoken truths were held; the sort of unspoken truths which made the pup's fur rise anxiously.
"Why, what's a little pup like you doing holding a big bucket like that?" he asked, reaching a large black paw out offering to carry the water bucket. Anatoly fetched water multiple times a day, and back home he'd performed harder tasks. He could tell Hakon was up to something. Keen youths always have a unique ability to tell when an adult is trying to hide part of the truth from them. Nevertheless, with his paws he gently presented the near-full bucket to Hakon, who quickly set it down right beside himself.
"Wha-" Anatoly began to ask.
"We can take that back in a few minutes," the dark wolf spoke insistently. Anatoly looked to ask another question. He gave the older an uneasy gaze and turned slightly to the side, giving Hakon his shoulder. Hakon was just staring at him grinning.
"I wanted to get to meet you," the dire wolf continued. "From what I hear, you've been...quite sweet to Gloebis," he teased. There was a moment of silence before the boy nodded shyly. His cheeks flushed red. He didn't know what Hakon would say next.
"Well, that's good...none of us got anything against a sweet boy like you. We just want to get to know you better too."
Anatoly was mostly frozen. Though Hakon had kept his voice pacified, the hidden agenda was revealed in the direction of Hakon's gaze, which wandered up and down his small form. For a moment, the sound of the water in the creek behind him was deafening behind the awkward silence.
"I..." Anatoly stuttered. Hakon stepped in closer.
"Don't be scared, little pup," Hakon added gruffly. He reached his firm black paw out again, as he had taken the bucket, but this time stroked the youth's chest once softly. "If you can handle the Li'ka, you can probably handle me too," he joked, laughing to himself. Anatoly flinched nervously and then looked up at the large wolf. "You know, he's quite a different wolf out on the battlefield, that one..."
"Can I please..." - he began to ask to be allowed to go.
"What?" Hakon protested. "Why so cold, boy? It's not like Gloebis is the only one lonely out here," he growled with real agitation. Hakon's gruffness, agitated, and his upfront manner made the young foxyote quite ill at ease. He began to walk back to the camp without another word, leaving the bucket. He kept his shoulder and then back turned to Hakon as if it might protect him. Not a second later, though, he felt the dire wolf's heavy paws holding him; one by the shoulder, the other on his hip. The large warrior body pressed up behind him, and the youth shuttered. He could, for the first time, feel Hakon's body heat. He smelled like even more of a warrior than Gloebis - or at least, like a warrior of a more ancient variety, wild. Something was very hard against Anatoly's back. He flinched hard again trying to get free. Hakon's paws only held him tighter, hugging around his small lean chest and pressing him in close.
"Now now, boy, just hold still....I'm not gonna'..."
But Anatoly continued to thrash, only becoming more panicked, fearing rape. Hakon grew angry. A carnal loneliness built up inside him demanded attention. The inequity of this pristine foxyote giving company only to their Li'ka was as infinitely unbearable as was the hunger between his thighs. His emotions flooded with anger, a need to enforce what he saw as discipline. He saw Anatoly open his muzzle to call out and swiftly held it shut with his paw.
"Shhhhhh!" he commanded. "Listen, pup; what we have here, we share. It isn't fair Gloebis keeping you to himself. You're so pretty, so sweet - and we've all been kept alone a bit too long."
He felt he was trying to explain something to the foxyote, a fact of their lifestyle of the boy's place within it. Yet, each time the youth tried to pull away again Hakon grew less patient and held tighter, until at last the youth held still. Again, the world seemed deaf but for the muffled sound of the water and Hakon's deep, lusty breaths against Anatoly's shallow, fearful ones. The dire wolf shuddered lowly as he slipped one of his gruff black paws under Anatoly's loin cloth. The boy squealed with distress quietly and Hakon spoke quietly, "Thaaat's it, pup....just hold still. I just want to feel you."
When he felt the dire wolf's hard-calloused paw groping his little sheath and balls in one cup, he simultaneously felt the large cock throbbing against his back, only thinly shrouded by the older wolf's own inadequate loin cloth. Anatoly at last held still and was quiet, though still quite distressed. Hakon's scent had risen yet more in the air as he beheld the pure softness of the pup's package.
It had indeed been quite long since he was so close to such a beauty; the youth's fearful uncertainty only made him look even prettier, Hakon thought. The sun through tree branches drew little shadows on their bodies that danced in the breeze as if gleefully immune to the foxyote's distress, the dire wolf's desire. With Anatoly finally holding still, the dark wolf kept his paw cupping his privates - even stroking them with surprising tact. His cock ached and throbbed for release, even if he knew it would not find it here and now. The thought - of going all the way with Anatoly, away from camp, in the grass not far from the creek - was tempting him, though... His voice crooned, "You are such a beautiful pup. I see why Gloebis couldn't turn you away. Don't be so scared..."
But the thick claw now lustily rubbing the youth's tailhole negated any comfort Hakon's words might have had. Hakon also seemed to growl each time he sniffed the foxyote's virginal smell. Anatoly, both terrified and intimidated before the primal force that was in the dark wolf's every word and move, tried to shout out, "let me go!" - but was only able to muster a muffled, anxious sound.
He thrashed his legs around as well. One of his footpaws caught a patch of gravel and slipped out from under him. The dark wolf immediately, on instinct, released his paw from Anatoly's muzzle to catch his fall. He tried to withdraw his molesting paw (regretfully, for him) as well, but in the sudden motion accidentally stretched and ripped the foxyote's loins right off. Anatoly's first instinct was to shout out, and he did. Hakon cringed to the sound of his terrified shout. He looked down at the shaking boy in his paws, naked, and said under his breath with a remorseful gaze, "...shit. I'm sorry." - but the last words were lost to the loud sound of rustling and large figures approaching.
"Hakon!" the first voice called out in an enraged, deep growl. The dark wolf immediately recognized the voice as Dutero's. Dutero was Gloebis' friend and second in command, but he was also a warrior respected for his justice as much as his prowess. He was a long-time and dear friend to Hakon as well. The two had shared many battles (and even some cute foxes) - the black wolf with the guilty face thus hoped Dutero would understand his position and be merciful.
Dutero himself wasn't a dire wolf at all. He was a wolf halfbreed as well, but with the blood of a foreigner. His muzzle was thick, shorter, and his gold-yellow eyes held in them a constantly determined gaze. Shorter than most of the other wolves, he made up for it in brawn; thick muscle gave shape to his form, unto which shorter, shinier mahogany fur clung. His was a reputation built gradually, on experience and discipline - battle after battle, returning alive with an impressive kill count; earning absolute trust.
Standing in the sun with such an angered expression, even Hakon looked to him guiltily for a moment. Right behind and beside him was standing Alcaeus, the do-gooder who stared at Hakon with eyes rolled, muzzle shaking in disapproval. Others approached more slowly behind them.
As for Anatoly; he caught the tinge of remorse in Hakon's last gaze but was too shaken up to look anything but upset. If Hakon was hoping for mercy, the sight of him holding the nude boy above his ripped loins, the younger with a tear down his cheek, did not help the case any.
"Put him down!" Dutero's voice boomed again, and before he could even finish Hakon had gently set the boy down onto the ground.
"I'm sorr-" Hakon began, but Dutero cut him off. "What in hell do you think you are doing!?"
Hakon could see that the second officer was truly incensed by the sight. He knew, caught with the pup's musk still on his paws (and his own on the pup's back), that he would have to own up to his actions. "I just wanted to meet Anatoly," he began slowly, his voice notably humbled, "and I could tell he was afraid of me...I didn't think it was fair to have such a sweet beauty around to be kept only for Gloebis."
As he continued, he looked to the other men now watching this disciplinary spectacle. "All of us here already know the passions our Li'ka has shared with the boy. But it is an insult to our bravery and to our code that he is hidden from us like a secret."His voice picked up tone as he spoke, for a few of the men began nodding muzzles in quiet agreement. Anatoly was looking away, uncomfortable to be such a center of attention.
"So you ripped off his loins and molested him!?" Dutero pressed, not letting up his harsh speech one bit.
"No! The loins...they fell off when Anatoly tripped..."
"Trying to get away from you?"
"Well," Hakon started to reply as he felt a pang of guilt. In defense, he fell back on their culture. "Are there any of us here who did not share the touch of a male, ever? Is it not custom for our land, under our king, to appreciate such beauty?"
Even if Dutero was still scowling, Hakon could see well that many of the other soldiers agreed with him. "Why must Anatoly be so afraid of us - of all of us except for Gloebis?" he protested. "We share our food, our water, our bodies, and our blood. We are all denied the pleasures of the free world in service to the king. I never meant to hurt young Anatoly - just to indoctrinate him into our Stygaran tradition."
The gentler voice of Alcaeus shot back without delay, "Maybe if you didn't stalk him down to touch his cock, he'd have had a better sense of where you are coming from!"
Dutero himself appeared to agree with Alcaeus, but yet another voice shouted out before the halfbreed could pass judgment. "Maybe if Alcaeus knew anything about such beauty he would agree with us. One never knows until he has his cock enveloped in such a muzzle," the lascivious voice of Tornis joked. A few of the other men laughed as Alcaeus grunted in displeasure. Dutero looked over to Tornis with slight disapproval, but the white wolf was not reprimanded.
"We are supposed to protect the weak!" Alcaeus protested. "Above all else! Are we not noble warriors? Hakon, you claim to be better than the murderous Nebelians and barbarians you slaughter -"
"A better soldier, anyway," Hakon interrupted cynically. "We're all murderers here," he said, his voice mimicking Alcaeus' on 'murderers' in a parody. A few of the men laughed again."And besides, what have we done for the boy but to protect him?"
"You know what I mean,"
"Some day, one of us will give our lives defending Anatoly. Pity he'd be too afraid, locked up in the Li'ka's yurt, to give the poor soldier a little R and R before the underworld calls..."
Dutero had been observing the impromptu trial; Alcaeus the prosecutor and Hakon his own lawyer. The two looked like they could argue on. Meanwhile, Tornis the white wolf looked ready to make another lewd interjection. The halfbreed, grown impatient as the foxyote still looked uncomfortable sitting in the grass, interrupted all of them. "All right, all right!"
The crowd was brought to silence. "What you have done Hakon, is against our code, for you have disobeyed your superiors. There is punishment for this - no matter how reasonable your motives..."
Hakon growled to himself and looked down, knowing he would be shamed before Gloebis. "And I must say, even that remains unclear to us. Anatoly is a shy boy - he is not from our culture, but a local. This is why Gloebis has tried to protect him, and why he kept him from you all. Yet, what Hakon said is right: the bond we have as warriors and the code we hold must stand. No longer will Anatoly be kept apart from you all; he is free to mingle, talk, and even lay with you as he pleases."
"But," he continued sharply, "Alcaeus is correct that we protect the weak. Nobody, and I mean no one," as he looked at Hakon, "is to press beyond permission with the young lad. You all should know that rule. Until Gloebis returns to make final call, Anatoly will retain his current duties...your punishment is likewise withheld - but I promise you will have one..." he said especially harshly.
"...and, until I ascertain the degree of your guilt, I request time to speak with the boy, alone."
"Oh, of-fucking-course! Now you get him to yourself." Tornis shouted sarcastically, but Dutero ignored him. The second officer padded slowly over to the young foxyote, who was hiding his face tucked in his arms, and set a comforting paw on his head. "Now, you all get back to what you're doing, leave the pup alone for now!" - and the crowd slowly began to dissipate.
Dutero looked down at Anatoly and spoke, much more softly than he had addressed his men, "I know you're upset, but, you can trust me. I'm Dutero - I basically act as Li'ka when your love is gone. Take my paw."
Anatoly stayed quiet but lifted his soft paw up to hold Dutero's as he stood.
"Maybe we can take a little walk around the perimeter together...I just want to take a walk with you and talk to you about what Hakon did..."
