The Anthropomorphical Apartheid - Prologue

Finally!! I've wanted to publish this story for such a long time. I started writing it back when was just starting out all the Furry Stuff. Squash wasn't even my fursona at that time. Now I polished it up again so I can upload it. I'm also almost done writing the first "real" chapter, though it might still take me quite some time to finish it.

With that out of the way, I hope you'll enjoy reading my story.

A world where anthropomorphics and humans could live together in peace would be a good one, but sadly that's far from reality. Instead the we are repressed by them and their laws which portray us as lower species, not worth of having the same rights as they do.

We are banned from public transport, parks and generally everywhere a lot of humans are. Even if an anthro is for example sitting on a bench, he has to get up and go away if a human tells him to do so. We are also not allowed attend to human schools but more about that later.

There is even the so called "Anthropomorphics Control Department", short ACD, to keep us in check. All of that might be because humans fear us to a certain degree, because we have superior strength and certain abilities they can't match.

There are two types of antropomorphics, the canimorphs and the felimophs.

Felimorphs have a similar body shape to humans just with the head of a cat, a tail, fur and claws. They have the same traits as "regular" cats and they also behave accordingly. If you chase or annoy them they'll either climb a tree or claw into your nose, which really hurts.

It's about the same with canimorphs, just that we are like dogs and we do things dogs do.

Like cats and dogs, the two of our species tend to not really get along that well with each other so we try to stay out each of other's way.

I am a canimorph and my name is Squash. I have grey, brown and white fur and yellow eyes. Actually I am not "fully" anthro, my great-grandfather was a human.

I have no brothers or sisters. My mother was killed in a gas attack when I was just a litte puppy. It was summer and someone shot a gas grenade through the open window. She did not get out quickly enough, the door had been blocked.

To this day it is unknown who is responsible for this malicious act of cruelty. The only reason I didn't die that day is because I was at my grandparents when it happend.

My father, his name is Struth, works for the government.

As the only anthro in the parliament he is trying to fight for the little right we have. He probably wouldn't be where he is now without a few lucky coincidences and his partly human origin. Being only one man against anyone else he isn't able change a lot, if anything. Still, just the fact that he got there is a great achievement for the anthropomorphic population, even if mostly in spirit.

His job also comes with some privileges. Mainly we are not forced have to live in one of the ghettos. Instead we have a pretty spacious apartment a fine human district. We also have a car. I only know a paw full of other anthros who own one, too.

Thanks to my dad's position I am one of the few unlucky ones of our kind who's allowed to attend a human school.

Why unlucky you might ask? Well, while this could eventually allow me to get good human job like my dad, it will be a long and hard time.

The human students tease me when and wherever they can. They steal my stuff, step on my tail and tear out my fur. The teachers don't treat me better either. When I have a question I get ignored and they seem to be obsessed with catching me doing something that is not allowed, just so they can reprimand me for it.

I also find it annoying that I have to wear a school uniform. At first that doesn't sound that bad but if you have coat of fur underneath it can get pretty toasty.

In my free time I often hang out with Amark. He is my best friend and lives just a few blocks down the street. We have known each other pretty much for ever and he is almost like a brother for me.

Amark is a canimorphic half-blood. This means that he is half anthro. His mother is a human, his father is a canimorph. Half-bloods look a lot like anthros with less fur, a smaller snout and no tail. They have almost have the same rights as humans, which means that they are allowed to vote and to attend human schools.

Amark go the same school and we are in the same class. He is treated almost equally bad by our classmates as I am, but he least doesn't have a tail they could step on.

He does not have as many problems with the teachers though, probably because he is just less "animal" than me.

Another good friend of mine is Kasha, she is a felimorph.

I already told you that canimorphs and felimorphs usually are not very fond of each other, but with us that's obviously not the case. We got to know each other a few years ago. My father was working on a campaign about how the two breeds of anthropomorphics should try to better get along with each other. There were supposed to be posters everywhere of Kasha and me playing together in the sand. It looked pretty cute.

The campaign was eventually shut down by the authorities but we stayed friends. True, our body language is pretty different.

If she for example her wags tail she is not happy, instead it means that she is very angry. Things like that can be pretty confusing at first, but just like with learning a foreign language - you will eventually get the hang of it.

That's especially true if you have a bit of a crush on someone, just sayin'...

Kasha lives in Ghetto 15 and she goes to school there. This means that we usually don't get to see each other throughout the week. But at the weekends she, Amark and I often meet up and do activities together.

To sum it all up, being anthropomorphic in a world that is ruled by humans isn't always easy. But you can conquer even the biggest challenges life might throw at you if you have good friends to help you through. When we hold together we are invincible, hopefully.
