Cynder woke and sighed happily, she was laying on top of Spyro for a change, and she could feel his steady heartbeat as he slept. She looked over at his face and noticed his small smile, as if he was having a good dream. She slowly slid off of him and stretched, groaning slightly as a few bones in her back popped. Spyro opened his eyes and smiled at her, the sun peeked through the window and landed on her body, making it shine and glow. The sparkling scales dazzled her mate, making Cynder blush and flick the curtains closed with her tail. Spyro blinked at the sudden darkness and got up, but kept his steady gaze.

“Not even darkness can hide your beauty." He whispered.

Cynder was about to say something, but there was a knock on the door. They walked out of the house and found Michael waiting for them.

“How do you always know when we're awake." Cynder asked with an accusing gaze.

Michael chuckled and wiggled his eyebrows. “I saw your curtain move."

Cynder paled, and laughed meekly. Aura and Sam appeared suddenly, then vanished, then appeared across the square again. Then they noticed the three dragons watching them, and teleported next to them.

“Hi" Aura greeted them.

“Hi, how was your ascension?" Cynder asked

“It was fun, and now we can teleport, change forms, use ethereal moves, and open portals anywhere, even other dimensions." Aura told them.

“Congratulations" Spyro replied “How does it feel?"

“It feels weird, the only thing we can definitely feel is our new ethereal element. The immortality heals our wounds incredibly fast, and if we were to like, die, our bodies will reform and we would, like, wake up." Aura answered.

“Wait, Nebula and Onyx can do that as well?" Cynder asked

“Yes, how do you think Onyx was able to get around?" Michael answered

Cynder nodded and looked around, “So, why were you waiting for us anyway."

Michael sighed “Oh, right. I got a request from the king to find mates for Asher…"

“Really, I thought he had that covered…" Cynder spoke

“… and Fletcher." Michael added

They both flinched.

“Why would the king want you to do that?" Spyro asked

“There aren't many royals in the capital, and he is sending his daughter to another territory to be mated to an heir. Fletcher came by a few days ago asking about Aura, I told him he was too late and to scram." Michael snorted.

“Fletcher wanted to be with Aura?" Cynder gasped

“No, actually, Fletcher wanted Asher to mate with Aura because she is an ethereal princess, being my daughter. The status of ethereal princess is higher than a territory king so Asher would be forced to leave and Fletcher would take the throne." Michael explained.

Aura shuddered “I don't like being used."

“It's not as bad as you think, Asher is a good person, it's just Fletcher who would have other reasons." Michael told her.

“So, what do we have to do?" Spyro asked.

“Tomorrow you will be leaving to do Camry and Layla's crowning ceremony, and we will take them with us, there will be many royals in attendance. They will be here in an hour or two and Trice will take them to a royal lunch." Michael told them. “I also wanted to warn you because they will be here, in the square, soon."

They nodded, Aura nudged Sam and they both vanished, leaving them to stare at the spaces where they were. Michael chuckled and shook his head, before stepping back and walking away.

“Wait" Spyro called “There was something I wanted to ask."

Michael turned back and raised an eyebrow.

“Have you found Ignitus' egg?" Spyro asked

“I have, it will be brought here soon, but it will likely get here while you are at Providence. I expect it to hatch with the rest of everybody's eggs later. Trust me, I will be receiving more than one egg this year." He sighed “It happens every time; egg years will happen every five years, but big ones like this are millions of years apart."

Spyro perked up. “You are going to raise more children as well?"

“Yes, I do it a lot more than you would expect, I suspect I will receive at least five eggs this year, even in peace there are circumstances that would cause parents to fall and their eggs to be abandoned." Michael looked down. “I shouldn't have to say this but you relate, so you should understand."

They both nodded in understanding, and Michael turned and took flight, taking off towards the dock. They walked back into the house and Cynder forced Spyro onto the couch while she walked into the kitchen.

“Day one of seven." She reminded him. “I think we leave for Providence in either four or five, maybe three, but that won't change anything, I can handle it."

Spyro nodded and sat back on the couch, he summoned a book Michael gave him about Faun history, he read for a bit before Cynder came out with the meal. They ate and talked for a bit, then they walked back out into the square to take another nap in the sun. A few hours after they had laid down, two dragons landed in the square and walked over to Michael's house. One smiled at them and regarded them with a kind gaze while the other shot them a hateful look. Cynder smiled at Asher and completely ignored his brother. Asher knocked on the door and stepped back as it opened. Trice walked out and regarded the two.

“We got a kind heart, that's good, handsome too, and smart, and we got an arrogant, cruel, egotistical, should I go on?" Trice spoke, raising her eyes at Fletcher “At least you got looks"

Fletcher growled.

“For you." She pointed to Asher “You want a kind, confident or shy, brave, sweet, and caring girl who holds herself high and wants real love. But for you, you are going to get an arrogant brat who will mate with you just because of your status, and you will likely get a ton of dragonesses practically begging you to choose them, but you will likely choose the prettiest one you can find. But she will remain loyal to you and sire your children, even if there is no love between you."

She scoffed at him, and took flight, the two brothers hesitated, then followed.

“She just roasted him." Cynder spoke, laughing.

“I have a suspicion that she's not wrong." Spyro frowned “There are a lot of royal matings that follow that description. There is a certain type of female royal that will mate with the highest status they can, they don't care about love, but only want their bloodline to be strengthened. I've seen groups of these dragonesses crowd around males before."

Cynder watched them go. “I wonder if my grandparents were like that."

“I think they were, but you should ask Jasper. I think that after they have children their entire personality changes, and they focus on caring for them." Spyro replied

They lounged around for a few hours, every once in a while, a friend would come by and talk to them for a minute, before continuing on their journey. Eventually, Spyro and Cynder got up and walked into their house and put on their armor. Spyro pulled out the crowns and placed Cynder's on her head. Cynder took the other and put it on Spyro's. Spyro smiled at her when she finished with her makeup, he bowed, his snout touching the ground.

“My queen." He stated

She nodded “My king."

They burst out laughing, Cynder nearly fell over before they finished. They stepped back out of the house and greeted Flame and Ember in the square, they were also wearing their armor and crowns. Michael and Bea stepped out of their house; their armor had been polished greatly since they last saw it at the veil. Trice landed in the square with the two princes following her.

“How'd it go?" Michael asked.

“Asher has been polite, walking around and talking to every girl he can, while Fletcher stood and waited for them to come to him, so only the easy ones talked to him. Work quickly went around that Asher was an heir, and that Fletcher was a direct prince. Then Fletcher got rushed and people paid more attention to Asher. I think Fletcher has already chosen though, he found a Draconia." Trice explained

“A Draconia?" Spyro replied

“Draconias are the most beautiful dragon family in the ML, they have been selectively breeding for billions of years, and are very picky when it comes to mates. They always choose their mates with extreme position." Michael explained

“He has the looks; she was pretty interested." Trice added.

Fletcher huffed, and focused elsewhere. Sam and Aura walked next to them and smiled at the group. Spyro noticed with a smirk that their crowns were bigger than the prince's.

“What was her name?" Michael asked Fletcher.

“June." Fletcher mumbled.

“The fire one?" Michael replied

He nodded. “You know her?"

“Her mother used to relentlessly hit on Fury, until Rose put a stop to it." Michael smirked.

“I think she will work, she seemed to be interested so she already chose him. Either because he's perfect or he will do." Trice added.

“That's the easy part done, now for the harder one." Michael looked over to Asher, who blushed.

Michael looked over to Spyro and Cynder.

“Watch out, both the king and Layla have officially pardoned you, but that doesn't mean that some people won't try to arrest you." He told them.

Cynder sighed, and nodded. Spyro stepped forward and summoned a portal. The group stepped through it into the city's main square. A massive cheer erupted around them, Spyro blinked and noticed a large reception had greeted them. There was a large crowd cheering, and they were throwing confetti in the air. The group smiled and waved at everybody, then started walking towards the palace. Spyro noticed a lot of purple painted dragonesses. He smiled at them and they squealed, Cynder tapped his tail with hers, laughing. She stopped when she noticed a few people scowling at her, she decided to ignore them and focused on the ones cheering at her instead. She could spot some of the dragonesses staring at her with dreamy eyes, no doubt wishing they were her. They made it to the palace gates and the guards bowed and opened the door.

“My mom didn't want to have a big celebration like this." Ember told them. “She was too tired to do all this, the king pulled out all the stops."

They walked into the throne room and looked around, the hall was filled with flowers of many colors, they were everywhere. Guards were standing on either side of them, shoulder to shoulder, against the walls. There were some dignitaries standing around, and the king was talking with some of them, he turned and smiled at them.

“Hello all, I am so glad you could make it."

“Quit the act, I know that if your daughter hadn't requested it, we wouldn't have been invited." Michael replied

The king's smile faltered a bit, but he recovered. “Exactly, now can you please take your positions. Michael, Bea, Trice, can you stand over to the right, Spyro and Cynder, take the center, and the rest of you go to the left."

They all went where they were told, and prepared for the ceremony.

“I should have put more shine on my scales and armor." Cynder mumbled

“You are perfect, you are always perfect." Spyro replied

Cynder blushed and tapped her tail against Spyro's flank in appreciation. Layla and Camry stepped through the main doors and walked across the hall. They smiled brightly when they saw Spyro and Cynder standing in front of them. They stopped when they were right in front of them and turned around to face the rest of the crowd. The king made a long and annoying speech, making Spyro's legs start to ache. Then he turned to the four dragons standing in the middle and bowed. Spyro and Cynder wordlessly picked up a crown from the throne, turned, and set it on Camry and Layla's heads. They stepped back and joined the others on the left. The new king and queen smiled, and sat down on the throne, everybody cheered and clapped at the smiling couple. Then, everybody watched as dignitary after dignitary walked up to the throne and set down a tribute. After a couple hundred tributes were brought into the room and presented to them, everybody walked out of the throne room and into a large ball room. There was a collection of royals that lifted their drinks and cheered when everybody entered. The crowds merged and everybody spread out throughout the room, calm music started playing in the background. Spyro watched as Fletcher calmly chatted with a group of dragonesses, while Asher nervously chatted with one pretty, blushing dragoness next to a wall. Cynder laughed when he dragged her into a dance. They talked with a bunch of royals and enjoyed the party for a few hours, before they tired out and tried to leave.

“Where do you think you're going?" Layla asked them “You must stay here for the night, there are rooms already made available for you."

Cynder smiled. “Thanks, you didn't have to do that."

“Of course I did, I insist you stay." Layla replied

“Alright, we will stay for the night." Cynder told her.

She smiled brightly at them. “Camry wanted some family here, his parents could only stay for a minute, and only one of them could be here at a time."

Cynder nodded “I understand, we're going to bed then, see you in the morning."

“Come find us in the royal lounge when you get up." Layla replied “We will have our own little celebration, just family."

They nodded again and followed a guard towards their room. The guard bowed outside the door and walked away. They quickly walked into the room and took off their armor, before collapsing on the bed. Spyro curled around Cynder and they both immediately fell asleep.

Michael and Trice watched the party, Bea had already retired to a room. Michael watched intently as Asher danced with a cute grey dragoness. She was laughing, clearly enjoying herself. Everybody knew he was an heir but cared less than at Faun. Fletcher was standing next to a wall, drinking from a gold cup occasionally.

“Who is that?" Aura asked “With Asher."

“I think she is a duchess from a kingdom on Triad, her family is close with this one." Trice replied. “I'm going to offer her a chance to court in Faun, she is the only person Asher has talked with for longer than five minutes."

“You are strangely quick, faster than me sometimes, but that can be both good and bad." Michael replied

“Well, I was right with Camry and Layla, and don't forget about Amber and Lumi, and Onyx and Effie." Trice told him.

Michael rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, but sometimes patience is key."

Ember and Flame joined them and watched the dancing dragons, they were panting because they were just with them.

“They're pretty cute, dark red with light grey." Ember spoke.

Flame chuckled, and the rest of them smiled.

“Ah, to be young again." Michael smirked

Trice shot him a laugh “When you were that young dragons didn't exist."

The rest of the group froze, realizing the underlying words in that statement.

“We get it, he's old" Flame broke the silence.

“Are you drunk?" Ember asked him, raising her eyebrows

“Maybe a little." Flame giggled.

She rolled her eyes and dragged him out of the party, he laughed as her tail grabbed him and pulled him out of the ballroom.

Aura chuckled “I might be a little drunk too, this place is famous for its wine."

Trice summoned a bottle of wine out of thin air, then popped the cork and summoned a glass.

“I prefer Master's myself." She smirked.

“That's a forty-million-dollar bottle of wine." Michael stated

“And? I have like, a thousand of these in my cellar." She replied.

“Master's?" Sam asked

“It's Michael's own brand, he makes the best of everything, billions of years tend to perfect anything." Aura told them. “And that stuff, is very strong."

She burped, and giggled.

Trice took a sip from her glass, and smiled “It's a good year."

Michael smirked. “That's just the first year I let you make a batch, and you kept a chunk of it."

“Which is why they are so expensive." Trice added.

The turned out to the party and watched the dancing dragons. After a while, Aura and Sam left, then the party died down. Michael and Trice chatted while they walked to their rooms, but stopped when they heard a familiar voice.

“It was nice dancing with you." Asher's voice could be heard.

They smiled at each other, before turning invisible and walking out into the hall.

“I enjoyed it." The grey dragoness blushed.

“I wish we could spend more time together, but sadly I return to Faun tomorrow." Asher looked down.

“My territory is on Triad, maybe I can ask my parents if I can stay here." She told him.

He smiled and looked back up at her, then doubt flashed his face, he pushed it away and leaned forward, her eyes widened as he kissed her, and she blushed. She didn't turn away, and when he broke off, he smiled brightly.

“See you then."
