Bleach Gaiden: Summer Love

Walking by himself in the somewhat loud town of Karakura, was a young adult human by the name of Yosuke Narukami. Yosuke was nothing special; just a normal, college age Japanese boy. Short blond hair that stopped at the middle of his neck, with bangs that practically covered his eyes. He had fairly pale skin, but despite that he still appeared to be a lively sort. Despite how he looked, he did actually have a muscular build; all of which were hidden away by his white shirt. Although, his arms really showed off how muscular he could be.

“Sigh!”

The young man was clearly bored; his eyes gave off the feeling of him ready to fall asleep on the sidewalk. It was just the beginning of summer break from college, and he already found himself bored. And the worst part of it for him was, the lack of being engaged in a longstanding dream of his; to experience summer love. Too bad for him, he gave off a vibe of being unapproachable; nobody - not even other men - would give him the time of day. He never understood why that was, but he blamed that on his blond hair; maybe everybody assumed he was a delinquent and thought he dyed his hair. The only proof he had of that was that everyone would react with fear of him; even now the people he walked past were doing just that. Even whispering rumors about him.

“Grrr”, Yosuke growled lowly through his teeth. “I didn’t dye my hair; this is my natural hair color.” He let out another sigh, as he tried to ignore what was going on around him. “I wish they didn’t just spout rumors about me like that. At this rate, I’ll never get to experience summertime romance.”

Yosuke felt defeated; he could feel his emotions sinking almost into depression. However, he lit up upon seeing one of his college mates; Ichigo Kurosaki. “Is that Kurosaki”, he said. “I wonder if he’d like to hang out and do something.” Feeling a bit of happiness, Yosuke started to run his way over to Ichigo; a smile now present on his face. On his way, he noticed that the young man was chatting with someone; more specifically, it appeared like he was shouting in a freaked out manner. “I wonder who he’s speaking to? Some friends of his, maybe?”

Upon getting closer, Yosuke got himself a good look at who Ichigo was chatting with. Immediately, Yosuke stopped in his tracks and let out a gasp. He could not believe what he was actually gazing at. “IS THAT A GIANT FOX, OR A WOLF”, he shouted. His shouting caught the attention of both Ichigo and the giant canine; with the human looking freaked out. Within that short time, Yosuke had brought himself up to them both; panting as he was catching his breath.

“Ku-kurosaki…who's your…friend?”

“AH, NARUKAMI”, Ichigo shouted in response. “This is…uh…

“I am Komamura, Sajin”, the giant canine introduced himself.

Yosuke had the look of amazement in his eyes, as he stared at the canine. To him, the canine was sparkling before his eyes; giving off a very handsome smile. It was strange to him, but Yosuke felt a connection to him, despite just meeting him for the first time. “So, your name is Komamura, Sajin”, Yosuke said; “And you’re a…”

“HE’S IN COSPLAY”, Ichigo suddenly shouted. “He likes to cosplay as a giant canine, he’s so weird like that. Ahahaha!”

From the sudden red vein that appeared atop the canine’s head, it was quite clear that Sajin didn’t like the way Ichigo was describing him. But despite that, the other human appeared to believe Ichigo’s words. Without thinking, Yosuke reached his right hand out, brought it to the closest fur his eyes were on; that being the canine’s chest. Yosuke's grip on the fur was firm; rubbing the fur as he felt bristles of them rub within the ridges between his fingers.

“Oh wow”, Yosuke said in amazement. “This fur feels so realistic. What kind of canine are you cosplaying as?”

“I’m a wolf”, Sajin answered the human. “And I don’t know what this “cosplay” is, that Kurosaki insultingly said I was doing.”

“Ahahaha”, Ichigo nervously laughed.

Yosuke briefly raised a brow of his; confused by what Sajin had said and Ichigo’s nervous laughing. Then once he put two and two together, the young man let out a gasp. “Wait a minute”, he started; “Are you really a wolf?” Sajin didn’t answer with words, but with a nod of his head. Getting that confirmation didn’t bother Yosuke at all, in fact that confirmation had the opposite effect. The young man couldn’t be any more excited, as he suddenly hugged the large wolf; surprising both Ichigo and Sajin.

“So, where do you come from”, Yosuke asked. “And why are you here? How long will you be here for?”

Briefly looking over at his associate - who didn’t want him to say anything - Sajin decided to answer the human. He explained that he was from the Seireitei; a large city located in a place called the Soul Society. He also explained that he was a Soul Reaper. And the reason why he was in Karakura was because he was next to oversee the town. However; unlike other Soul Reapers who had overseen Karakura, Sajin wasn’t keeping himself hidden, and was walking about in broad daylight. It was the reason why Ichigo was in a panic, while chatting with the wolf minutes ago. As for how long he’d oversee Karakura, he really didn’t know.

The first three things that Sajin explained confused Yosuke; he didn’t really quite understand any of it. But hearing how long the wolf would be staying in town, only made the human feel excited. The young man felt his heart skip a beat, and he didn’t understand why that was. There was even a blush that ran across his face, but only Ichigo seemed to notice that.

“I’m assuming you’re currently not busy at the moment”, Yosuke asked. “Do you want to hang out?”

Once again, Sajin turned his attention to Ichigo, and once again he shook his head. Obviously, the wolf wasn’t just going to agree with his associate, and thought hanging out with the other human would be fun. Especially since he was unfamiliar with Karakura.

“I don’t mind”, Sajin answered simply. “Maybe you could even show me the many sites of this town, since Kurosaki here refuses my request.”

“Sure”, Yosuke answered almost immediately.

Ichigo was speechless. He stood in place with a blank expression on his face. His right eye was even twitching. “I-I’d like to join you guys”, Ichigo suddenly said. His words were half true, since he mainly wanted to keep watch of Sajin.

“Oh, sure, Kurosaki”, Yosuke said. Surprisingly, the young man wasn’t bothered at all about his college mate wanting to hangout with him and the wolf. Even when Yosuke just wanted to spend time with Sajin. “Actually, I was gonna ask if you wanted to hangout, anyway.”

“HAHAHA”, Ichigo loudly laughed. “Yeah! Let’s all hangout.”

Starting things off, Yosuke - with Ichigo’s begrudging help - decided to show Sajin around Karakura. It was also to get him familiar with the town, especially since he was in the real Karakura this time. The places they showed the giant wolf around included the college where Ichigo and Yosuke went to for some reason. Among other places they showed the wolf around included the Kurosaki Clinic, of which Ichigo’s family lived, and where his father could treat people. Sajin even talked about coming to the place whenever he’s injured, only for Ichigo to turn down such a suggestion.

Continuing on, the two showed Sajin around the Karakura shopping district, where the wolf was fascinated by all the things that looked interesting for him to buy. The trio then went to Karakura’s old train station, which was surprisingly still in use. They all took a ride on it and the wolf was amazed by such transportation. And during their ride, they were able to see one of the many rivers of Karakura through the windows. They then took a stop at a cemetery, where Ichigo paid his respects to his late mother; Yosuke and Sajin and even joined him in paying their own respects.

During the tour around town, the trio were getting watchful eyes from the many people they passed by. While Yosuke and Sajin didn’t seem to notice, Ichigo did and he felt very uncomfortable about it. He knew it was all because of the giant wolf they were walking around with, but it also could’ve been because he and Yosuke looked like delinquents with a big wolf. This was exactly what the young man wanted to avoid with Sajin just walking around Karakura, and now they were all getting unnecessary attention.

After a while of showing the wolf around the place, Yosuke decided it would be fun to go to the movies, just to show Sajin the fun of going to a movie theater. And just like when they were seeing the sites, they got even more looks from getting their tickets, and their snacks. The movie in question they were seeing was a tokusatsu film. Yosuke was certainly enjoying the movie; mainly because he was having fun and didn’t feel lonely anymore. Sajin was amazed by the film; fascinated by the moving pictures, especially since there was nothing like that back in the Seireitei. Ichigo really couldn’t get himself to enjoy the movie, because he couldn’t get his mind off of the large wolf being out in public.

With two hours having gone by, the next place the trio went to was a restaurant for some food. And while it was Yosuke’s idea, Sajin was really curious about what kind of food there was to be had from Karakura. And once again, all eyes were on the trio, especially Sajin. While Yosuke and the wolf were looking through their menus, Ichigo was barely looking through his; all the eyes on them from the other people were really annoying him. Even the waitress that came to take their orders, couldn’t take her eyes off the large canine; making it somewhat difficult for her to do her job.

“Um…what would you three like…like to drink”, she asked the trio.

“I’ll have a glass of water”, Sajin answered politely.

“I’ll take an orange juice”, Yosuke replied.

“I’ll…have a cola”, Ichigo answered back.

The waitress wrote down their drink orders, all the while her eyes were still locked on the large wolf. She examined every part of Sajin’s being; just trying to figure out what was the deal with him. She was wondering if he was an actual wolf, or was Sajin just some random guy in cosplay. But once she saw both his ears and whiskers twitch, she couldn’t help, but let out a gasp. That of course caught the wolf’s attention.

“Is something wrong, miss”, Sajin politely asked.

“Oh…uh…there isn’t…anything wrong”, the waitress replied. “I’ll go and get those drinks. And then I’ll…take your food orders.”

The waitress ran off in what looked to be a hurry, confusing both Sajin and Yosuke. Ichigo, on the other hand, was looking more and more paranoid. And as if things couldn’t get any worse - at least worse in the mind of Ichigo - two other girls came over to their table. Specifically, they brought themselves over to the large wolf; with their cellphones out.

“Hey, my friend and I were wondering if we could get a selfie with you”, one of the girls asked.

“Yeah; that’s a really awesome cosplay you have on”, the other girl said.

The look of confusion was still present on the wolf’s face, and he looked even more confused, than before. Just the words he heard that came from the girls’ mouths made no sense to him. But, he wasn’t going to turn down their request; assuming what they asked wasn’t something that would endanger him.

“Uh…sure”, Sajin answered in an unsure manner. “Go right ahead.”

The girls were filled with glee, as they huddled together from each side of the wolf. With their phones brought out before them, the two girls snapped some shots of them with the large canine. Sajin’s ears twitched and he bared his fangs upon hearing the sounds of those snapshots. But he really had nothing to worry about, especially after the girls showed him the pictures they took. Granted, he was confused about how his very being was trapped inside of the girls’ cell phones.

“Thank you so much for allowing us to do this”, one of the girls said. “You’re such a good boy.”

“Yes; such a good boy”, said the other girl.

Then, without any sort of warning, the two girls placed a hand upon the canine. Treating him like an actual dog, the two girls started to playfully rub the wolf’s face. It was such a bizarre feeling for the wolf; he couldn’t recall a time in his life where he was given such treatment. Instincts had kicked in, and Sajin found himself repeatedly kicking a foot of his on the floor, just like an actual dog. Seeing that, Yosuke couldn’t keep himself from chuckling, while one of Ichigo’s eyes was twitching again.

“This can’t be real”, Ichigo thought. “This has gotta be some bizarre reality I’m in. Am I in another fake Karakura Town?”

At that time, the waitress from before had returned with the trio’s drinks; placing each order down. Sajin was the first one of three to take hold of his drink, and start drinking it. However, he was drinking his water the exact same way an actual dog would; lapping it up with his tongue. The waitress gasped again, while Yosuke and the two girls were just speechless. The girls were taking even more photos of the wolf acting like a dog. Meanwhile, Ichigo’s eyes were completely blank; his body was shaking with fury, and there was a large, red vein upon his head.

“You could at least try to be more subtle”, he thought.

“Um…I’m ready to take your orders”, the waitress said.

With more time having passed, the trio were now eating their meals. Because the wolf was interested in trying out the cuisine of Karakura, they ordered a lot of different food. Dumplings, curry, ramen, anything that normally wasn’t in the Soul Society. Suffice to say, Sajin was having a good time eating the foods he’s never had before. And he wasn’t the only one having a good time, as Yosuke was too; he was especially happy that today wasn’t boring for him. Just hanging out with a fellow college mate and a wolf from another world was just what he wanted. As for Ichigo, at least he was eating; his eyes never staying off of the wolf.

And after some more time passed, the trio had gotten their fill and the waitress returned with the bill. Since the events of today were all Yosuke’s idea, it was his responsibility to pay for their food. But even then, he knew he didn’t exactly have enough yen to pay for everything, and any currency that Sajin might have had on his person, was obviously not going to be accepted.

“Hey, Kurosaki; do you think you could help me out with this bill”, Yosuke asked with his hands clasped together.

“Uh, sure I can chip in”, Ichigo responded, as he checked his wallet. “But you owe me big for this.”

“Arigatou gozaimasu!”

“Doumo arigatou”, Sajin said; also clasping his hands together. “Let me help with the payments, as well.”

“No, no, there’s no need”, Ichigo said. “Your money really wouldn’t be good here, anyway.”

It was now the evening and the sky was a bright twilight, as the sun was beginning to set. Having had their fill of food, the trio were standing outside of Yosuke’s home. The blond haired young man offered the two to come inside of his home, but Ichigo turned him down. Sajin; on the other hand, didn’t mind wanting to have a look around the young man’s place; he was curious about modern Japanese homes. Yosuke was most certainly happy, as there were sparks around his being, even Ichigo could see that. The orange spiky haired man didn’t think much of it; to him it just seemed like his college mate didn’t want to be alone. He also figured that Sajin was in good hands, and didn’t need to continue watching him.

“Well, I’m gonna go, so see ya both”, Ichigo said, as he gave a wave of his hand. Likewise, Yosuke and Sajin did the same, as they watched Ichigo walk off. “Oh, and Komamura; don’t forget that you’re on duty here.”

The large wolf just gave a simple nod of his head in response to the human’s words. With that all said and done, Ichigo walked off and left the two to themselves. Taking hold of one of the larger canine’s arms, Yosuke brought Sajin into his home. The human gave the wolf a tour of his place; showing him pretty much every room of the building, with the tour ending once they were both standing within the dojo. It was within there that Yosuke noticed what he thought to be a katana held within the wolf’s uniform. That made the human curious.

“Um, Komamura-san; is that a real katana you’re carrying?”

Looking downwards at where the human was pointing at, the large wolf was eyeing his sheathed blade. “Ah, my Zanpakuto”, he said, upon placing a hand on the hilt. “I see that you’re curious about it. To answer your question; yes, this is a real weapon.”

“Then, I guess that means that you’re pretty good with the sword, huh?”

Sajin gave a simple nod of his head. “Tenken has been a great ally to me in our many battles”, he said; referring to his katana. “He’s served me well, as I have to him, and we’ve come to know one another greatly.”

Yosuke stood in confusion; wondering why the wolf was referring to his weapon, as if it were a living being. The human decided not to dwell on it too much, as one of his own hands grasped the hilt of the many shinais within the dojo. “Komamura-san!” Hearing his name being called, the wolf’s ears twitched, as he focused his attention on the human before him. “I hope you don’t mind my asking, but would you spar with me for a bit?”

Brandishing one of the shinais within his hand, Yosuke pointed it directly at the large wolf. Sajin still had a hand on the hilt of his sheathed blade; holding onto it gently. He knew exactly what the human was asking of, and that left the canine feeling worried. “I’ll have to turn down your request, Narukami”, Sajin replied back. “If I were to use Tenken against you, it would prove very fatal to a mere human like yourself.”

“Oh no no no, I don’t mean for you to use your actual katana against me”, Yosuke said. Taking hold of another shinai, the human walked himself over to the wolf, and handed the training weapon over to him. “I want you to use this. I just want to see how strong you are, as I’ve been practicing my whole life to get stronger myself.”

With him now taking hold of the shinai, Sajin gazed upon the practice weapon. He was amazed that just by gripping on the hilt, that he hadn’t already broken it with his own strength. Looking back at the young man, the wolf could see the determination to get strong within the human’s eyes. Sajin admired that; now he couldn’t refuse Yosuke’s request for a little sparring.

“I admire your determination”, Sajin said. “I accept your request for a spar, but I will be holding myself back. Are you fine with that?”

“Hai”, Yosuke said with such excitement in his voice.

Getting themselves into position, the two stood across from one another in a practice stance. They both held onto the hilts of their respective shinais with a firm grip. Neither of them made a move yet, as time was slowly ticking away. Then, the two charged at each other and swung their shinais at one another, until they connected. The force of Sajin’s swing against Yosuke’s own shinai was enough to push the human back a few feet; his shinai shattering into pieces before his very eyes. Yosuke was sweating bullets and his body was trembling; he felt fear, and that was just from the wolf supposedly holding back. Sajin was very aware of that, as he watched the human shaking.

“NARUKAMI”, Sajin shouted in concern. The wolf brought himself over to the human’s side. Getting down on one knee, the canine placed his hands on Yosuke’s shoulder; holding onto him tenderly. “Daijoubu?”

“Y-yeah, I’m fine”, Yosuke replied back. “I was just…caught off guard, b-by…just how strong you are, is all.” It took a little while, but the young man eventually calmed down; his trembling coming to a stop. He struggled a bit to get back up onto his feet, but with assistance from the wolf, he was able to stand on his feet again. “But…I think that will do for sparring”, Yosuke said. “I see that I’m no match for you.”

A smile crept along the wolf’s muzzle; seeing the human get back onto his feet. He was amazed that Yosuke even managed to withstand his attack; the human had some strength within him from all his prior practices. “A well deserved break is a good idea”, Sajin said. “Even if we only just started.”

“Actually, I was thinking maybe we could do some more training”, Yosuke suggested. “Are you…also good at martial arts?”

The wolf shook his head; not because he may not know martial arts, but because of the human’s wellbeing. “I think the very brief spar we engaged in is enough”, he said. The canine took hold of one of Yosuke’s hands; he could feel the subtle trembling that was still present from the human. “A time for relaxation is in hand, and a good form of that is a nice bath.”

With a few minutes having gone by, Yosuke and Sajin were within the bathroom. Stripping themselves of their clothes, the two placed them into a laundry basket, of which the young man placed outside of the bathroom. As the tub was being filled with warm water, Yosuke and Sajin doused themselves with a bucket of warm water, as they sat upon some small stools. With the tub having been filled, the human turned off the water, while the wolf sat himself down within it; causing some water to overflow out of the tub. Seeing that there was still some room for him in the tub, the human joined the canine as he got himself in; letting out a sigh, as he rested against Sajin’s body. For a brief moment, the wolf was a bit surprised, while Yosuke didn’t think anything of it, that is until he realized what he was doing.

“Oh, gomen, Komamura-san”, Yosuke apologized. He moved himself away from the canine’s body. “I didn’t mean to rest against you.”

“I don’t mind at all, Yosuke”, Sajin politely said.

Hearing that the large canine was ok with him resting against his very being, the human went back to resting upon the wolf. With the obvious smile present on his face, the human was happy. However, he realized something, and that something was that Sajin said his name; his first name. The human reacted by immediately moving himself off from the wolf’s body; a large pink flush ran across his face.

“Y-you just said…m-my first name”, Yosuke stuttered.

“I think we’re familiar enough with one another to be on a first name basis”, Sajin said in a somewhat nonchalant manner. “Is that going to be a problem, Yosuke?”

“N-not at all, S-sajin.”

A smile reappeared across the wolf’s muzzle again. Despite how very obviously flustered the human was acting, Sajin was content. He brought his right hand to the young man’s shoulder, and pulled him over to him; letting the human rest upon his furry body.

“You know, Yosuke; I like you”, Sajin suddenly said. The human was speechless upon hearing that; his face having gone completely red. All the wolf could do upon seeing Yosuke's reaction was continue to smile. “I've liked you ever since we first met. As you didn’t have a problem with my appearance.”

The blush from the human’s face had vanished, as Yosuke reeled himself back, and looked up at the wolf. “Why would I have a problem with your appearance”, Yosuke asked. “I mean, I was surprised when I did see you, but you’re actually cool.”

The wolf was happy to hear those words from the human; the smile across his face didn’t disappear. “Thanks for the compliment”, Sajin said. “You know, I was always so self-conscious about my appearance, that I used to wear gloves to hide my hands, and a Komuso hat to hide my very face.” Sajin’s words caught the attention of Yosuke; the young man now focusing his attention on the wolf. He honestly found it hard to believe that such a large and cool wolf would want to keep his appearance hidden away.

“I never fingered you’d be the type to not like the way you look”, Yosuke said. The human was then reminded of how other people would look at him because of his blond hair. And how they all just assumed he was some kind of delinquent. “Although, I may just understand the feeling.”

Another smile appeared across the wolf’s muzzle. “You know, Yosuke; you remind me a lot of my old friend, Tosen, Kaname”, he said. A light gasp escaped from the human’s mouth; now even more interested to listen to the canine. “He was my only friend at the time, but he helped me to not feel ashamed of how I looked.”

“He sounds like a good friend”, Yosuke said with a warm smile.

Sajin gave a quick, simple nod of the head. “At the time, he was blind and couldn’t see me”, the wolf continued. “But once he touched me, he could visualize what I looked like, and accepted me for who I was.” The smile that was still present across the wolf’s muzzle had suddenly changed to a look of sorrow. Even the human noticed that, and his own expression had changed as such.

“Did something happen to him”, Yosuke asked in concern.

“One day, a man within the Soul Society had betrayed us, and my dear friend decided to join alongside him”, Sajin answered. “That was enough for me to rid myself of those gloves and hat, as I had learned that Tosen decided to join alongside that man.” A hand of the wolf had balled up into a fist, and it was shaking with anger. “In return, my friend was able to see; he could see me for the first time, and his words to me were.” There was a brief moment of silence, before the wolf repeated his old friend’s words. “He said I was ugly.”

“That’s awful”, Yosuke said in anger. “Joining someone who betrayed you all and calling you ugly; he doesn’t sound like a good friend at all.”

“I don’t fault Tosen for his actions; he was just misguided”, Sajin said. “We engaged in a life or death battle; both of us could barely hold on, but I managed to defeat him. He made amends and saw that I wasn’t ugly, but then…” The wolf bared his fangs, as the image of the man who betrayed the Soul Society had appeared and killed off his friend. Yosuke could even hear the low sounds of growling coming from the canine’s mouth.

“Komamura-san.” In response, the human moved himself upwards and locked Sajin into a hug; simultaneously calming the wolf down. “You’ve been through a whole lot, Sajin”, Yosuke said in a sweet tone. “You should know that, even though we’ve only just met hours ago, I consider you to be a friend. And…” The human stopped himself before he continued with what he had to say. That pink flush had reappeared across his face again. “...I think you look cool; handsome, even.”

“...Yosuke…”, Sajin said in a nearly silent tone.

Then something unexpected happened for the both of them. Yosuke had loosened his arms from around Sajin’s neck, and without any sort of warning, the human locked his lips with the wolf’s mouth. Surprisingly, Sajin wasn’t at all fazed by Yosuke’s action; his eyes barely widened, but his ears did twitch a few times. At best, the wolf just didn’t know what to make of the situation; thoughts of romance and the like had never crossed his mind. After what was only just a few seconds, Yosuke parted his lips from Sajin’s mouth; his eyes were half opened, as if he were in a love-stricken daze. But then he fully opened his eyes upon the realization of what he’d just done, and backed himself away from the canine.

“G-GOMEN”, the human suddenly shouted. “I DON’T KNOW WHAT CAME OVER ME!” Somewhat calming down, Yosuke lowered his head in shame; the blush upon his face having expanded. “You were telling me about your struggles and all that you’ve been through, and then I…I just…took advantage of you.”

Sajin remained quiet, as he went deep into thought. He briefly placed two of his fingers against his lips, before licking around them. His eyes then focused on the nervous human. “Yosuke”, he called out to him.

Hearing his name was enough to make the human flinch, as he tightly shut his eyes. “Oh no, I pissed him off”, he thought. “I don’t blame him, since what I just did to him.” Upon feeling the large wolf’s hand around his shoulders, Yosuke flinched once more; now he was even more nervous. “Damn it; he’s gonna kill me. I wanted to experience summer romance, and then I just…randomly decided to kiss Komamura-san.”

With a firm grip on his shoulder, the human could practically feel those sharp claws digging into his skin. He trembled, as he felt his whole body get pulled over to the wolf’s side. The young man’s eyes were still tightly shut; just waiting for the canine to hurt him. Instead, he felt something wet that wasn’t the bath water upon his face. It was Sajin’s tongue that moved smoothly along the human’s face. Surprised, Yosuke went wide-eyed and was left sitting in confusion. And just when he was about to say something, Yosuke felt that same tongue enter his mouth.

Obviously, Yosuke was speechless; he didn’t even mumble, as he felt that tongue in his mouth. The human then felt himself being pulled forward by the back of his head; his mouth now making contact with Sajin’s again. The human’s eyes couldn’t get any wider, than they were now; the wolf’s own eyes were completely shut. Their muscles had connected and danced between their mouths; the two began to moan.
