Wings Of Fire-Rise Of The Titans CH 1
Sorry for being gone, will work on having a better schedule. Happy July, and enjoy book two of WOF!
Sunny walked through her art class, checking on her student's work and their progress on the project she had given them. She had told them that while she was gone, she wanted them to create any piece of art. She looked over at Qibli and Turtle's workspace, it was empty, because they were getting ready to leave for the sand kingdom. She frowned when she saw one of her sandwing students sitting in front of a blank canvas.
“Bronze." She called. “What's wrong?"
He looked over at her. “I just don't know what to paint."
“How about one of the oases you were talking about, paint one of those." Sunny suggested.
Bronze nodded and started working.
“Alright class." Sunny called out. “I will be back in a week; all you have to do is finish this painting by then"
They all nodded, and she dismissed them. The rest of the day went pretty much the same, and Sunny collapsed into the bed.
“Excited?" Starflight asked from the desk.
“Yeah." She replied. “Then we can have ours, and I won't have to stress out myself while waiting."
He walked over and nuzzled her. “Don't stress out."
“I can't wait though." She smiled.
He smirked. “Me neither, but we have to, so we can make it special."
She sighed again, and fell asleep against her love.
A loud clack woke Sunny up, she looked over to Starflight and noticed he heard it too. They got up and walked out of the room. They made their way to the source of the noise and noticed Michael standing in the middle of a puddle, with a strange sphere sitting next to him. Sunny noticed that Michael was covered in seawater. He flicked his claws, and all the water disappeared. He looked over at the sphere with an annoyed expression.
“What happened?" Starflight asked.
“This is a titan core." Michael told them. “The only way to defeat one is to remove it."
“Oh." Starflight replied.
Moon and Qibli walked into the hall, and smiled at the three of them.
“Hey, you all ready to go?" Moon asked.
“Almost." Sunny told her.
“We leave in an hour." Michael told them, and walked away, rolling the core with his tail.
Moon beamed over at Sunny, then made her way to the main hall. Sunny and Starflight walked back into their room and packed their clothes.
“Did you know Michael made Moon's dress too?" Sunny told him.
“The one she wore at Thorn's wedding was nice." Starflight replied
“Yeah, can't wait to see the suit he made for Qibli."
“He's a good tailor, I got to say."
Aw, thanks.
Sunny blinked, then turned to Starflight. “Is that at all weird to you?"
“A little, but I'm kinda used to it now."
They grabbed their satchels with their clothes, and walked into the main hall. Michael was waiting for them with Trice. She looked over and saw Moon and Qibli practically running to them.
“No need to rush." Michael told them. “Turtle and Qibli aren't even here yet, nor is Winter and Lynx."
The couple stopped, and Moon chuckled. “Sorry, excited."
“You think anybody will notice a completely different dragon teaching our classes?" Trice asked.
“Nope, she has the same color as you, they'll just think your in a mood." Michael replied
Two icewings walked out of the teacher's tunnel, and greeted them.
“Hot, stuffy sand kingdom here we come." Winter grumbled.
“I love the sun." Kinkajou replied, walking up behind them.
“I for one want to relax in one of those lakes I've heard about." Turtle added.
“Yeah, they're really good for your scales." Qibli told him.
They walked out of the hall and took flight. The flight only took a few hours, and they were in the kingdom of Sand's capitol. Thorn smiled and wrapped her wings around her daughter.
“Hey." Sunny greeted her mom. “I was here three days ago."
“I know, but I still consider myself blessed to have found you." Thorn replied.
Qibli and Moon wandered off. Turtle grabbed Kinkajou and they made their way towards the famous pools. Michael looked around, then turned to Trice.
“Your mother was supposed to come to this wedding, and stay till the next one, but I don't know where she is."
Thorn gasped. “Oh, we get to meet the famous Bea! Glad she chose to grace us with her presence."
“She hasn't been here for fifteen thousand years, so yeah, she has." Michael replied.
Trice snorted, and flew off. Sunny looked around, and noticed that there were some new shops that opened recently. She had seen them last time, but never had a chance to check them out. She nodded to her mother, and walked off with Starflight. He walked over to a shop selling gold bands. The shopkeeper eyed him warily, but let him shop. After a moment, he bought a pair of gold bands, and walked out with one on his right wrist.
“What's that for?" She asked as he handed her a band.
“Why not?" He replied.
She smiled and put on her band, the designs were intricate, and were of a scorpion and a rattlesnake. Sunny looked over and found that Starflight's was the exact same, only a little bigger.
“Now everybody will know I'm taken, and your taken." Starflight added.
“They should be able to tell, since we are always together." Sunny smirked.
“Good point." He smiled. “I also wanted you to have just a little bit of your heritage that wasn't royal jewelry."
Sunny thought back to the chest of jewelry her mother had sent her.
“I was thinking of wearing the large diamond necklace for our wearing." She told him.
“The one with like, a billion diamonds on it?" Starflight asked
“Yeah, Thorn would be happy if I wore that. When she saw me wearing the smaller one, she smirked and looked proud of herself."
Starflight laughed. “I saw that too."
They walked through the market together, some whispered and pointed at them, and a few dragonets gasped when they walked past them. Starflight smiled and kept his usual pace, while Sunny resisted the urge to stop and greet everybody, but instead she stayed next to Starflight, with his wing cast over her. She always liked the little things he did just for her. She could sense how happy he was, he stood straight up when he walked now, and acted proud. He also beamed whenever he looked at her next to him. I love him, and I still can't believe I didn't notice it before.
Don't kick yourself, you were absolutely clueless about your own feelings.
Sunny just scoffed, and focused on walking through the market beside Starflight. He glanced at her occasionally, making sure she was still there, then smiling slightly to himself and turning his head back to the path ahead of him.
“You want to check out that glassworking place?" He asked her.
“Sure." She replied, and they walked into the store.
Sunny sat back on the bed, reading from a book that Michael gave her. Starflight was next to her, reading his own book. This was her favorite pastime with him, just being together and reading. She loved to feel his heartbeat right next to her as they both read. Starflight chuckled from something he read, and smirked slightly. She looked over at him and studied his face, before setting the book down and nuzzling up against his neck.
“Whatcha reading?"
“A book about Michael's adventures. Did you know he once broke into the nightwing city just to place a painting back into the vault it was stolen from?"
“Who stole it?"
“He did, something about it having an animus curse."
She looked down at the book and they read it together for a while. Then she felt her eyes fall as she fell asleep.
Sunny woke to a strange noise, she looked over and noticed Starflight was having a nightmare. He had scooted himself to the far edge of the bed, and was shaking heavily.
“Starflight?"
He didn't react, so she reached over and tapped him with her talon.
“Starflight."
She shook him, and he gasped, opening his eyes and jerking around.
“Sunny? Where are you?"
“I'm right here."
He looked over at her, and she wrapped him in a tight hug.
“Nightmare?" She asked.
“Yeah."
“What was it about?"
“I was flying around, and I couldn't find you. You had left me, and I was completely alone."
She wrapped her arms around him, and gripped him tightly, he wrapped his wings around her and held her just as tightly.
“I would never leave you." Sunny replied.
He sighed. “I know in my mind that's true."
Sunny looked up at him, and smiled. “Were getting married, of course it's true."
Starflight smiled back, and set his head back down on the pillow.
“You go back to sleep; I'll be awake for a while."
“I'll stay up with you."
“You don't have to do that." Starflight nuzzled her. “Sleep, you deserve it."
Sunny looked up at him, and noticed a massive wave of love and caring in his eyes. But she also noticed pain hidden behind it.
Such is the way of life; love and pain come in a full circle Sunny.
Will it heal?
It already has, but pain is never forgotten. He felt as if he was without a soul, for a long period of time. His unconscious mind is just reminding him, so that he will always make himself mentally prepared for it to happen again.
But it won't.
How does he know that? How would you know that? Neither of you can predict the future. But nevertheless, he refuses to follow his instinct to prevent the pain from happening again. He has fallen completely in love and trust with you. His heart is completely open, and you have been blessed by being the only one for him. Love like this is rare, I have only seen it a few times in this dimension. Fathom and Indigo, a random couple you don't know, Blue and Cricket, and you are the only ones in the last six thousand years.
I don't know what to do.
Of course you don't, nobody taught you what it was like to love someone, you were never around two people in love. The only love you have seen during your childhood was for you, and you didn't understand it.
I know this already; I was an idiot. I ignored the feelings from my heart, and my soulmate suffered because of it. How could I ever make it up to him? I was such a fool; how could I not notice all the things that I had read about in Coral's stories?
Sunny could practically hear him sigh. The only way you can make it up to him is to love him.
I already do that.
Then just wait, I have a quote for you. “Time heals all wounds, but pain is never truly forgotten."
She opened her eyes, and noticed that Starflight was still watching her.
“I love you; you know that right?" She asked him.
He smiled. “Yeah, I know."
“I'm sorry."
“For what?"
“Letting you believe that I didn't."
“Don't be sorry, it took me forever to realize that I was in love with you, and that it was more than just a standard crush. Clay, Glory, and Tsunami knew before I did."
“I'm pretty sure Dune also knew, and was hinting it at me for a while"
Starflight chuckled. “And I just bumbled around like an idiot, probably making you think less of me."
“I would never." She laughed. “I did think you hated me though, which is now obvious to me that wasn't true."
Starflight flinched a little, making Sunny look up at him with worry. “You okay?"
“It's nothing, just an old wound." He replied.
“What old wound?"
“Remember when you left the night island, and that whole explosion thing."
“Yeah." Sunny felt a pang in her heart.
“The explosion rocked me and Clay through the tunnel, I broke three ribs, dislocated my right wing, and my left shoulder."
Sunny gasped. “Why didn't you tell me?"
“By the time you got back, they were fine, I was more focused on my eyes than the rest of me."
“Does your wing hurt?"
“No, it's my shoulder, but it only hurts sometimes."
Sunny frowned and looked over at his left shoulder, then nuzzled it slightly.
“I just need to stretch it, then it'll be fine." Starflight added.
Sunny nodded, and nuzzled back into the crook of his neck. “Go to sleep hun."
“You too." He replied.
“Sunny"
The yellow dragoness opened her eyes and smiled at Starflight.
“Hey, it's time to get ready." He told her.
She got up and stretched. She looked over at Starflight and blushed when she caught him staring. He walked over to her and kissed her before walking out of the room.
“Love you." He called as he left.
She sat there for a few moments, before a dark purple dragon walked into the room.
“Who are you?" Sunny asked.
“I'm Bea, Michael's wife." She smiled. “Nice to meet you, Sunny."
“Nice to meet you too."
“I'm here to help you, Kinkajou, and Lynx with their dresses. Then, we'll go together and help Moon."
Kinkajou burst into the room smiling brightly, and flopped onto the bed.
“Wedding!" She cheered.
Sunny smiled over at her. “You're the maid of honor, so you need to be extra perfect."
Her colors flashed. “I'm ready."
Bea helped her shade her scales just right for her dress while Sunny retrieved her dress and started to put it on. Lynx joined them after a few minutes, her dress was already on, and Bea walked over and helped her smooth it. Then, after finishing with Sunny's dress, the four dragons walked over to Moon's dressing room. They walked by the boys, and Sunny smiled when she watched Winter and Turtle blush as they saw their girlfriends walk by.
“Did you and Winter officially get together?" Sunny whispered to Lynx
Lynx smiled, and nodded. “Yeah, we dated for a while before I told him I wanted him to be my boyfriend."
“You told him?"
“Yeah, he was so cute about it."
They made their way to the dressing room, and Bea knocked on the door. She frowned when there was no answer, then opened the door and stepped inside. After a few moments, she opened the door again, and motioned for Sunny to enter. She stepped into the dressing room, and found Moon huddled into the corner.
“She needs your help." Bea told her, then left the room.
Sunny walked up to Moon, and nudged her snout.
“Hey, what's wrong."
“I don't know, I just feel… Scared."
“That's completely normal, this is a big day for you, and for Qibli."
“Did you see him? How did he look?"
“Shaken, but very proud and very happy."
Moon smiled faintly. “Am I doing the right thing?"
“Do you love Qibli?"
“Yes"
“With all of your heart? In a way that you will never love anybody else?"
“Yes and yes."
“Do you want to be with him for the rest of your life?"
“Yes"
“Then yes, you are doing the right thing."
Moon's smile grew. “Is that how you feel about Starflight."
Sunny jumped at the question, then thought for a moment. “Yes, I'm more confident in that then any other decision I have ever made."
Moon got up and hugged Sunny with her wings. “Thanks, I needed that."
Sunny stepped back and looked into her eyes. “Another sandwing nightwing hybrid, wonder if you'll have little gold dragonets."
Moon blushed heavily. “I… uhm… Yeah, maybe."
“You haven't thought about it huh?" Sunny replied, walking over to the door and opening it.
“A little, you?"
“All the time, can't wait." Sunny smirked.
Lynx, Kinkajou, and Bea walked into the room. Kinkajou gasped when she saw the dress and walked up to it.
“Wow, it's so pretty, look at all those sparkles."
Moon smiled at her. “Yeah, It's amazing."
They helped her put it on, and stood back to admire her beauty. The black and silver dress fit her perfectly, and it made her greenish tint look incredibly bright. Moon beamed at the others, her silver tears shining brightly. Her necklace was a series of onyx stones embedded in silver tears. Michael knocked on the door, and Bea let him in. The black dragon looked Moon over, and nodded.
“It looks like I set the seams right." He finally spoke.
“It's perfect, thank you so much for all of this." Moon replied.
He nodded, and turned to Bea. “Ready?"
She nodded, and they walked out of the room.
