Wings Of Fire-Rise Of The Titans CH 7
The seventh chapter! Almost through! My posting might be off for a while as I figure some things out. But I will try my best to be on time!
Starflight woke up to Sunny’s light snoring, he looked over at her, she had her head pillowed on her paws, and was smiling slightly in a good dream. Starflight yawned, and looked around the room, there were some people talking outside, which means that it was the morning. After lying there for a few minutes, he got up and stretched. Then, making sure he didn’t wake Sunny up, he stepped out of the room. He noticed that Michael and Trice were talking at the end of the hall, and walked over to them.
“Hey, what’s going on?” He asked.
“Somebody has been summoning the titans, and we need to find out who before they figure out how to send more than one at a time.” Michael explained.
“That’s possible?”
“The titans are natural magical defenses. In fact, they were supposed to rise about ten thousand years ago and wipe out the humans.”
“Why would they do that?” Starflight frowned. “The humans are harmless.”
“Back then they weren’t. The idea was that they were supposed to rise, clear out the humans, and fade out of existence so that your species would grow to take over the planet. When they didn’t rise, I waited for a while, before I eventually caused the scorching and got the same thing done anyway.”
“You nearly caused humans to go extinct!” Starflight replied.
“Humans are the most common species in the universe, the hardest to kill, and the most dangerous to yours and all dragon species.” Michael told him. “Humanity was trying to wipe you out before the scorching, as they have tried to do many times to many species.”
“So, you wiped them out?” Starflight asked. “To save all of us?”
“Sometimes, humanity, when it’s pressured by a predatory species, becomes evil and hardened, and they fight and kill everything they can, and will stop at nothing to destroy everything that threatens them.”
“Okay, so, beyond the scope of that, the titan’s purpose was to destroy humanity, and clear the way for us. What stopped them?” Starflight asked.
“I think that a dragon from a different species, likely a soul dragon, trapped the titans and turned themselves into the same species as you. Then, they had children, and died. Our guess is that the last descendant of that dragon is releasing the titans, and trying to control them.”
“But why would they do that?”
“Probably to take control of all the continents.” Trice shrugged. “Whoever it is, they’re on Pantala, and we think they’re a hivewing.”
“How would you be able to tell?” Starflight asked.
“The dragon would have white eyes.” Michael replied.
Sunny walked out and smiled over at them.
“Hey, what’s going on?” She asked.
“The person who has been summoning the titans is likely a white-eyed hivewing on Pantala.” Starflight told her.
She raised her eyes. “Really?”
“Yeah, we’ll be looking for them later.” Michael told her.
Sunny turned and looked at Starflight. “You ready to go?”
“Where you guys going?” Trice asked.
“Over to the seawing villages, this cool restaurant Willow and Sundew recommended.” Sunny answered.
“Oh, nice.” Trice replied. “The skywings aren’t too happy about those villages lately.”
“I think Ruby’s too busy to bother with them right now.” Michael replied.
“Why?” Sunny turned to him.
“Because she’s trying to find a husband so she could have some heirs.” Michael told her.
“Wait, who’s Cliff’s father?” Starflight replied.
“He’s dead, but it was their breeding program. They took down the program, but are still using it.” Michael answered.
Sunny raised an eyebrow. “Wait, I just realized; after Tsunami replaces Coral, Queen Moorhen will be the oldest queen.”
Starflight laughed. “She probably noticed that too.”
Qibli and Moon walked out of their room, they turned and waved to Sunny and Starflight, who walked over to them.
“Hey, where are Cricket and Blue?” Moon asked.
“I haven’t seen them; they might be at the library.” Sunny chuckled.
“Let’s go get them, then grab a quick breakfast before we leave.” Qibli replied.
The rest nodded, and they made their way back to the library. The two Pantalans weren’t there, so they went over to the feeding hall. They found Cricket and Blue sitting in the corner of the room, chatting and eating.
“Hey.” Moon smiled as they approached. “You guys excited?”
Blue nodded, and Cricket smiled at them.
“Yeah, I’m excited to check out those villages.” Cricket told them.
Starflight and Moon walked off to grab some food while the sandwings sat down.
“The nest field trip is Pantala.” Qibli spoke. “Personally, I’m excited to see the place when it’s not under the control of an evil plant.”
Both the Pantalans flinched slightly, then nodded. The nightwings returned with the food, and settled down to eat. After eating for a while, they excited the palace and walked onto a beach. Cricket and Blue looked terrible when they were wet, Cricket looked like she was twice as heavy as they settled on the beach to dry. Blue pulled out some warm flamesilk, and wrapped it around her. She smiled at him, and held him close while they sat in the hot sun. After a half hour, they took flight and made their way towards the village. It took them a couple of hours to reach the seawing village, and it was already afternoon when they landed in its main square. The six dragons were awed by the sea-themed designs of the buildings around them. The seawings turned to them when they arrived, and awed at the Pantalans.
“What are you?” One of them asked.
“Were from the lost continent.” Blue told them. “I’m a silkwing, and she’s a hivewing.”
“And you?” He pointed at Sunny.
“I’m a nightwing sandwing hybrid.” She blushed.
“What are you doing here?” Another seawing asked.
“Were here to check out the famous restaurant. There were two leafwings here the other day.” Starflight told her.
The seawing nodded. “It’s over there.”
There were whispers in the crowd.
“That’s a nightwing.”
“Look, there’s two.”
“Two nightwings? There are two nightwings in our village?”
“Are they reading our minds?”
“Look at the male one, I think he’s a dragonet of destiny.”
“Then the funny looking sandwing must be too.”
Sunny blushed more, and Starflight covered her with his wing as they walked towards the restaurant.
“More Pantalans? Where are they all coming from?”
“What’s next, a bunch of skywings trying to come and say hello.”
“Look at the way those sandwings and nightwings are walking together, and the others.”
“We can hear you; you know.” Qibli called out to them.
The crowd silenced, and Moon smirked at them as they walked into the resturaunt.
“Thanks.” Starflight said to Qibli.
“No problem.” He replied. “The seawing crowds are harsh.”
“Considering that most of the time they’re underwater, only meeting other seawings.” Moon added.
The hostess of the restaurant looked up and did a double take as they arrived, then smiled.
“Hello, table for six?” She asked.
Qibli nodded, and they were led to a large table, and sat down around it.
“What did Willow and Sundew recommend?” Cricket asked.
“I think it was the cooked cod special.” Blue replied.
“I think I’ll have that one.” Cricket told him.
Blue nodded, and looked at the menu. “I wonder what the seaweed platter is, it seems good.”
“Ooh, Star, look, they have a crab special.” Sunny spoke.
Starflight looked over, and smiled. “That seems nice.”
They sat there for a moment, before a waiter approached them.
“Are you ready to order?” He asked.
“Yes.” The group replied, and Starflight set down his menu.
“Well, take two crab specials.”
“A cod special and a seaweed platter.” Blue added.
“And two of the daily specials please.” Moon smiled.
The waiter nodded, and went off to place their orders. While they were waiting for their food, they noticed that a group of dragonets had collected and were watching them from outside the hut. Sunny looked over at Moon, who was blushing widely.
“What’s going on with them?” Sunny asked.
“They keep thinking that we’re the prettiest dragons they’ve ever met.” Moon replied.
Starflight smirked, and spread his wings. The gasps were audible from the dragonets, and Sunny could see them blushing. They kept watching for a while, whispering to each other, before Tsunami landed with a thump behind them. They turned and ran off when they saw the princess. Tsunami looked around, and walked over to an important looking seawing standing off to the side of the road.
“Does she know we’re here?” Qibli asked.
Moon shook her head. “She didn’t see us.”
The waiter walked back up to them, and set plates in front of each of them. He looked over and gasped at something, and the rest of them turned and noticed a group of skywings that had landed and joined Tsunami and the other seawing.
“Those skywings look mad.” Qibli noticed, then turned back to his food.
They decided to leave the situation alone, and dug into their meal. Starflight enjoyed the crab special, and Sunny looked like she enjoyed hers too.
“So, what do you guys think of the Summer palace?” Starflight asked. “Is it what you expected?”
“Yeah, we found the room you guys stayed in.” Qibli chuckled.
Sunny nearly choked. “You did?”
“Yeah, it was practically untouched.” Qibli replied.
“Why?” Starflight replied.
“No reason, just for fun.” Qibli shrugged. “Other then that, we just hung around.”
“Blue and I went and learned a lot about animus magic. The whole palace was originally made by it, which is weird, because it looks hand made.” Cricket told them.
They finished their meals, and settled back with satisfied grins.
“That was great.” Starflight spoke. “Sundew and Willow chose the right spot.”
The others nodded in agreement.
“I wonder if they have dessert?” Qibli replied, looking for the waiter.
They were interrupted by a loud bang. The table shook and several dragons fell to the ground. Everybody shot up and rushed out of the large hut. Starflight immediately noticed the fires, and the bodies of seawings and skywings spread about the area.
“Who would do this?” Sunny gasped.
“Tsunami!” Starflight called.
There was a groan, and Starflight ran up to Tsunami’s injured form. She was so blackened she almost looked like a nightwing. Sunny ran up beside him and immediately began checking her injuries. Starflight turned and watched the others tend to the rest of the injured. He turned back and tried to lift Tsunami’s wing.
“AAAH.” She groaned.
Starflight set the wing back down. “What happened?”
“Was it a dragonflame cactus?” Sunny asked.
“No.” She muttered. “It was something… different.”
There was a bunch of thumps behind them, and Starflight looked over to find Michael and a bunch of armored dragons rush into the group. Starflight caught Michael’s attention, and he walked over to them.
“I leave you alone for one day.” He muttered, and inspected Tsunami. “Broken wing, several burns, damaged eye, and a broken forearm”
“Will she be alright?” Sunny asked.
“In normal cases, this would mean she would be blind in one eye, covered in scars, and wouldn’t be able to fly or swim for long periods of time.” Michael replied.
Sunny gasped. “Can you do anything?”
Michael’s eyes flashed, and Tsunami hissed. Starflight nearly threw up his meal when he saw her wing snap back into its normal position with a hideous crack. Then there was another one under her. He looked at her face and watched as the scales reappeared, and the cloud in her right eye faded away. She gasped and looked over at Starflight.
“Riptide?” Was all she said, then passed out.
Starflight looked up, and scanned the wreckage around them.
“There are no barbs, what did this?” He asked.
“YOU!” A seawing roared as a skywing slowly rose to her feet. “You did this?”
“What? You think we did this?” The skywing replied.
“This was a dragonflame, it had to be you.”
“There are no barbs.”
“You can remove barbs from the cactus no doubt.”
The armored dragons rushed up and separated the two before they could tear out each other’s throats.
“This is different, the explosive here comes from the very flammable sap from a certain species of tree.” Michael told Starflight.
“The leafwings did this?” Starflight replied.
“It doesn’t exist on Pantala, or here.” He replied, then turned. “Where is Riptide?”
“Where is the princess?” A seawing guard called. “Find the princess!”
“Over here.” Sunny called.
“Sunny, stay with her and make sure she rests for two days, that amount of magic in your system might cause problems if she over exerts herself.” Michael told her.
Sunny nodded, and three guards helped her carry Tsunami away.
“FLICKER!” The same skywing called out. “Where are you?”
Starflight turned and looked over at the skywing right next to him. He wasn’t sure if the dragon was unconscious or dead.
“Flicker’s here.” Michael called out next to him.
The skywing rushed over, and nudged the blackened dragon’s snout.
“Hey, stay with me.” She whispered.
Michael waved his claws, and the skywing’s body returned to its normal red, and Flicker opened his eyes with a gasp.
“What happened?” He mumbled.
“Two days of rest.” Michael told the other skywing. “Now go, get back to your kingdom.”
The female skywing nodded, and led Flicker away.
“Sir.” One of the armored dragons called. “He’s over here.”
Michael and Starflight walked over to the battered body of Riptide. Starflight sucked in a gasp when he saw the state of his friend.
“He’ll be fine, magic has its benefits.” Michael told him.
He was about to reply when another explosion deafened him. He looked over just in time to see a building explode, sending two armored dragons flying. Starflight flattened himself on the ground while many other dragons screamed and flew away as fast as they could. Michael motioned for the armored dragons to pull the wounded away from the fire as a third explosion rang from a nearby hill.
“What’s happening?” Starflight yelled.
Michael said something, but Starflight’s ears were still ringing.
“What?”
This is a terrorist attack. They want to cause a war between skywings and seawings.
He looked over at the wounded skywings. “Will it work?”
They both will be blaming each other, and if they keep happening, it will cause a war.
Michael helped Starflight to his feet, and looked him over.
Few light burns and two deep cuts, but you’ll be fine.
Starflight nodded, he looked over at Riptide, who looked to have recovered, but was still unconscious.
“Who do you think did this?”
These attackers chose the best possible time to do this. Coral is going to be very mad because the future queen and king were harmed, and Ruby is going to be mad because everybody is going to automatically blame her. Considering the explosive, I think I might know who did this, but I will have to investigate further.
Starfligth limped back a few steps to let a few seawings pick up Riptide and carry him into the water. A few armored dragons walked up and started breathing ice and water on the flames. Starflight watched this with wonder, before Michael finished healing the remaining dragons and motioned for them to leave. They took flight, and made their way back to the Summer Palace.
