Office Wolf - Ch9 - Nightmares
Office Wolf - Chapter 9 - Nightmares by TheCopilot
Trauma brings a sleepless night and things come to a head at the office for our two main men.
Sorry, no sex in this one but I hope to return to it in the later chapters.
There wasn’t much said during or after the food arrived. Ash demolished two burgers while Zach and Dan looked on in surprise. Now Ash looked almost sick where he sat on the couch. His stomach had actually distended with how much food he’d crammed in it. Ash was struggling to stay awake and Dan wasn’t much better. Dan reached over and took Zach’s paw in his own, carefully kissing the paw out of view from Ash.
“It’s getting late.”
The husky sighed, checking his phone for the time. “Yeah, it really is late.”
“Do you want to stay or–” he trailed off.
“Or?” He teased back under his breath.
“I would feel better knowing you weren’t out this late, Sir. Stay the night?”
“Yeah, okay,“ the husky said, leaning close.
“Can you two please just fuck already, I can cut the hormones with a butter knife,” Ash groaned from next to them. “Coworkers my ass.”
“Brother, would you prefer to sleep in your car tonight?” Dan growled without breaking eye contact with Zach. Ash whined and Zach frowned. Dan’s eyes twinkled.
“Behave you two,” the husky said, crossing his arms. Dan’s lips pulled back to show a fang in annoyance before he huffed and looked at his brother.
“Guest room is unfurnished, you will sleep on the couch. We’ll figure out what to do tomorrow when Zach and I get back from work. Let me go find my extra blankets.”
“Yes, brother,” Ash said, exposing his throat in submission. Dan looked pleased but Zach was surprised to see the action. A moment later, Dan handed Zach a bundle of ratty fabric that caused the husky to frown. Zach held up what the smaller wolf realized was a towel and Dan shrugged. The husky began to lay them out on the couch. The couch was going to be a little short for his height and it was also a little lumpy.
“Is this going to be okay?” Zach asked Ash.
“Anything is better than sleeping in a car.”
“Agreed,” Dan rumbled. Ash cocked his head curiously to which Dan replied. “We will talk more tomorrow.”
When the door closed behind Dan he locked it and rested his head against the panel. He was surprised when Zach wrapped arms around his chest from behind, the husky nuzzling his head against his back.
“Did you really need to lock the door?”
“I love him, but I don’t trust him just yet. Certainly not with you here.”
“Oh? Possessive, are we?”
“Very,” Dan said, leaning back against Zach.
“Come to bed, handsome.” Those hands pulled the tower of ivory fur towards the nest at the center of the room and began to undress him as he rumbled in pleasure. He began to slip from his sheath as we watched Zach undress as well, tossing his clothes to the side. Gigantic paws reached up and pulled the husky into the bed with him, rolling on top of him with a chuckle. His big muzzle dipped down, rubbing his muzzle into the husky before laying down on top of him with his head resting on his chest. Dan was effectively a blanket for Zach at the moment, concealing the rest of the husky’s body from view.
“I’m proud of you, “ Zach said, rubbing the top of the wolf's big head. Those big amber eyes looked back up at him lovingly and his tail wagged twice. “Are you going to let him stay here?” Dan didn’t reply, looking away with a sigh. “I supposed he could stay with me.”
At that Dan pushed himself up onto his elbows and growled down Zach, making his displeasure at the thought known. The husky crossed his arms and started willfully back.
“He needs somewhere to stay, Dan.” the husky said flatly.
“Fine,” he huffed. “He can stay. For now.” Dan was still looming over Zach, hands on either side of his head as he looked down at him. The husky’s paws began to roam over Dan’s chest as he bit his lip. A pleased look stuttered over his face as the husky teased along his pecs. Zach lifted a foot paw and teased it along Dan’s by his pendulous sheath. The heat along the top of his toes was immense and it made Zach shiver.
“Really?” The wolf asked with a dusky growl. He gave a single thrust against Zach’s hand and grinned down. “With my brother in the other room? Scandalous.” The husky pressed lower, teasing his toes along Dan’s knot for just a moment and watching as Dan’s hackles rose. Those muscular hips twitched as he gasped as the husky chuckled and dropped his paw.
“I guess you’re right, not with him here.”
“That does it, he’s got go” the wolf said darkly, moving to get out of the bed. Zach grabbed his shoulders with a quiet laugh and pulled him down into the nest, relishing in the comfort of those big arms. He let his claws begin to roam through the fur of Dan’s head as he wolf let out a pleased grumble. Dan pushed his nose into Zach’s chest and took a deep breath before letting it out in a long sigh through his nose.
“We’re going to need to get him a bed,” the husky whispered.
Dan only grunted in reply.
“I’ll help if money is an issue,” he said, claws raking through Dan’s head fur. It wasn’t long before they were both deep asleep.
Some hours later, Zach jerked awake to find himself laying on Dan’s chest. In his groggy state, he couldn’t make out what had woken him. The room was dark, still, and eerily quiet aside from Dan breathing beneath him. There were arms wrapped around his waist and a paw was gripping his ass. That made him smirk as he laid his head back down and listened to Dan’s heart. So why had he woke? Then he heard a whimper in the living room. Zach pushed himself up, ears focused on listening through the door. There was another whimper and Zach’s blood ran cold when he heard a quiet begging “Please!”
Zach shook Dan’s shoulder, causing the wolf to come to with a startled snort. Once he heard Ash whimpering in the next room, he too scrambled from the nest. Disregarding their nude state, they rushed through the door just as Ash began yelping in pain. Zach kneeled next to the couch and rubbed Ash’s shoulder in a soothing motion.
“Father, stop!” the younger wolf whimpered, holding his hands in front of his face. He yelped and flinched as if struck. “Please! ….Daddy please!”
“Ash, you’re okay. Wake up, Ash. It’s just a dream,” Zach said, gently taking hold of his hand.
“Mom! Big brother!” Ash whimpered, “Someone! Please… help! It hurts. Stop it, please! It hurts!” His lips pulled back to bare his teeth as he began to snarl which caused Zach to pause and look at Dan. Suddenly, he lunged forward to snap in fear. Large hands seized his scruff and pulled him back as teeth closed on the space Zach’s face had been a moment before. A snarl boomed from Dan, causing Ash to flinch back against the couch, eyes shooting open wide in fear. All parties were silent for a moment in shock.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean… I’m sorry, please,” Ash kept repeating, sobbing into his hands as he curled up on the couch. He dug his palms into his eye sockets and began tapping his head as his body became racked with sobs.
“It’s okay Ash, you didn’t hurt anyone. We’re here now. You’re safe, you’re safe. I promise you’re safe.” Zach said as he climbed onto the couch and pulled the younger wolf’s head into his lap. It felt odd to be petting him like this considering how much bigger he was than Zach, but the soft strokes seemed to calm him down. When Zach began rubbing under Ash’s chin the way Dan had described to him the other night, Ash whined and looked up him and then Dan with big eyes.
“How?” he asked.
“I told him,” Dan mumbled as he sat on the couch and took Ash’s feet into his lap.
“Mom. Brother… I miss Mom,” his voice drew out with a few jowl flutter huffs. “I miss her so much.”
“Ash, do you… have nightmares like this… often?” Zach asked delicately.
“No. I mean, yes. Sometimes,” he huffed, rubbing his nose as it crackled again.
“That’s okay. It’s okay to be scared, Ash. It’s okay, we’ve got you. Just breathe in and out. Relax. Breathe with me, okay? In… and out.”
When Ash had finally stopped crying, it was his brother who took him by his paw and silently asked him to stand. The smaller of the two blushed hotly as his blanket fell to the floor revealing he too was nude. Dan sniffed a laugh and pulled him into a hug, holding him tight. The first hug they had shared since he left college. No words were exchanged, just the comfort of an older brother to the younger. He then took Ash’s paw in one hand and Zach’s into the other and led them both to his nest. Once there he guided Ash to the middle and then directed Zach in behind him. They both blushed as Zach wrapped his arms around the youngest brother and pulled him close, snuggling up to him. Dan placed his blanket over the two before laying down and scooting close in front of Ash, his paw coming up to hold him on the back of his neck and rub comfortingly.
Dan leaned in and pressed his forehead to his brothers before leaning back and licking along the bridge of Ash’s snout. Zach’s paws rubbed through his chest as his muzzle pushed forward and rubbed his scent along his neck. Ash gasped, looking at this brother in shock as Dan smiled. Zach had just scent marked him like he was part of a pack. Like they were pack. Ash whined low as his throat threatened to close in a sob. There was a thump as Dan’s tail beat happily against the nest as he nodded at his brother’s unspoken question.
“He can’t hurt you here, little brother. I won’t let him.”
“We won’t let him,” Zach butted in, hugging Ash tighter.
“I have so much to tell you, little brother. Tomorrow. Sleep.” The eldest wolf said quietly.
“Thank you, big brother,” Ash murmured back quietly. Within moments he was snoring softly in Zach’s arms. Zach looked over Ash’s head and his pools of blue started into Dan’s amber.
“Thank you, Sir,” Dan said softly to the husky, taking his hand in his. Zach smiled softly back, his tail thumping twice on the nest.
“Of course.”
~~~~~~
Friday morning came suddenly as the alarm went off next to the nest. Zach tried to reach for it but stopped short as he found that he was wrapped tightly in a set of thinly muscled white arms. Looking over his shoulder he found the youngest Padfoot brother spooning him while the eldest snored loudly on this back. Honestly, it was difficult to imagine Dan ever making it to work on time as he slept through the sounds of Zach’s alarm. The youngest brother did crack an eye open as Dan’s alarm began to blare on the opposite side of the nest. Zach patted his arm and Ash gasped, releasing the husky and pushing back in alarm. Ash bumped into Dan, causing the bigger wolf to snort and roll in his direction. Arms gripped Ash and pulled him close as Dan threw a leg over his little brother.
“Five more minutes. Please, Sir.”
His nose buried into Ash’s neck as he ground his sheath between his cheeks for a couple of thrusts. Ash’s blushed, too stunned to make a noise. Dan’s nose wrinkled as he realized he didn’t smell Zach and he pushed himself up onto his arms with snort. Zach watched as a drop of pre landed on Ash’s leg and covered his mouth in a raucous laugh.
“Not funny!” Dan grumbled, rolling off his brother and stomping into the bathroom. Ash was staring at the slimy string of pre stuck to his fur.
“I believe that was meant for me,” Zach said, as he leaned down towards Ash. He looked the wolf in the eyes as his tongue darted out to lick it off, watching the younger wolf shudder and swallow audibly.
“That is… so gross,” Ash replied. Zach’s eyes glance to his swollen and full sheath and then back to Ash’s face.
“Liar,” he said, his finger tracing up Ash’s manhood and causing him to whimper. The husky smirked as he backed his way off the bed and followed Dan into the bathroom with a wag of his tail. Once inside the bathroom, he found Dan standing with his arms crossed and scowling at the cold water as he waited for the water to warm up. When Zach wrapped his hands around his waist, he could see that Dan was blushing furiously under his white fur. Zach smiled and pressed his head in along Dan’s neck before burying his nose in Dan's chest ruff.
“He needs his own bed, ASAP,” grumbled Dan.
“Oh, I’m not sure about that,” Zach said, hand grasping Dan’s sheath. It was still swollen, flesh threatening to spill out along Zach’s wrist as Dan rumbled. “I thought that was a beautiful display of love, seems this guy right here does too. It was kind of hot, honestly.”
“What?” Dan balked at Zach.
“Watching my big wolf grinding on someone… that must be what we look like in bed.”
“Your big wolf, huh?” Dan asked, ears forward as his tail raised and swished behind him. Zach looked away in embarrassment, choosing instead to steer the conversation elsewhere.
“And I saw with my own eyes the fact that he didn’t mind half as much as he pretends too.”
Dan’s ears flattened against his skull, tail dropping.
“No.”
“Oh yes! And I took back my gift, the one you left on his leg.”
“Kill me, please. Just, end it now.”
~~~~~~
Alexis looked up from her monitor at the commotion at the front doors, surprised to find Zach and Dan walking through the front doors together, hurriedly crossing the floor. Her eyes darted down to look at the time, 8:05am.
“Good morning, boys.” she said, leaving the question unasked. They both looked back and forth between each other before sighing.
“Long night,” Dan mumbled, yawning as he set a cup of coffee on the mouse's desk as he swept on by.
Curious, Alexis thought to herself.
“Thanks, Dan!” She said, picking up the coffee and taking a sip. The coffee was hot but oddly watered down today. Alexis smiled and turned to her monitor, opening a chat window she began to type.
~~~~~~
When Zach and Dan walked into the Cafeteria to take a seat, they noticed a few curious and knowing glances thrown their way. They sat with their normal group, making small talk as usual. Dan was quietly eating, tail limp and expression blank as he thought back on the previous night. Zach placed a paw on his shoulder, shaking it gently to break him of his funk. Dan smiled at that, joining back in on the conversation. It was then that Zach noticed the strange look on Tristan’s face as the yellow shark looked back and forth between himself and Dan. He looked like a cheshire cat or a cat with a canary, grinning knowingly as he picked at this fish.
Oh great, he thinks he’s figured it out, Zach thought to himself. On the way back to their cubicle, Zach slowed his walk before he reached out to grab Dan’s tail and stop him. The big wolf stopped dead, tension seizing him head to toe. He visibly shivered and his hackles raised as he looked back over his shoulder with wide amber eyes. Zach nodded to the mens room to their right and the wolf nodded back with a toothsome smile. As soon as they were through the door, Dan spun Zach around and pushed him against a bathroom stall wall with a rumble deep in his chest. His paws roamed down Zach’s sides.
“Dan?” Zach gasped in alarm. “What are you–”
“Sir,” he husked out. “You grabbed my tail. In public.”
“I don't think anyone saw, “ Zach whispered back. He swallowed nervously as he looked up at Dan. “Is that a problem? Did I hurt you?”
“No, Sir. Quite the opposite,” Dan said, as he shivered again. He was beginning to pant, stepping closer to Zach, pressing his front against the husky and leering down. “It’s just that, I would have never expected you to do that at the office.”
“Dan, what are you talking–”
“Grabbing one’s tail is something typically reserved for one’s mate, Sir. It is typically reserved to… solicit certain activities.”
“O-o-oh. Oh my, uh–” Zach stuttered, stunned. Dan’s paws were now on his hips and looking down between them, he could see a growing lump in Dan’s slacks as the wolf rumbled to himself.
“I’m not sure if we have enough time, Sir,” Dan growled out, finger tracing Zach’s tie before wrapping around it and pulling gently. “If you needed an extra special ‘break’ for lunch, you should have just told me.”
“What? No, Dan!” Zach said, pushing Dan back gently with a heavy blush. “I didn’t want to… do that. Not right now!”
Dan’s ears splayed in confusion as he stepped back.
“My… my apologies, Sir.”
“I didn’t mean to give you the wrong impression. Not that I wouldn’t want to, just... Not right now. I wanted to talk in private, not at our desk or in the chat window..”
“You did? But why?”
“Dan, did you notice how they were looking at us at lunch?”
“I am a wolf, I am always looked at differently than a dog. Especially at meal time. It's why I try to hide my fangs, or choose something to eat that won’t bother… others.”
“Maybe I am overthinking it, but I don’t think I am. We need to be careful Dan. I don’t think it would be a good idea for anyone to learn about… us. Not while I am your Supervisor, not while your brother needs you.”
“What are you saying?” Dan’s eyebrows had bunched in confusion.
“I think we should keep quiet… about us. Avoid drawing suspicion. They could fire me if they find out, Dan,” Zach said, looking at Dan with a pained expression. “Or you, for that matter. It’s stupid but… it’s office politics.”
“Sir, are you… have I… offended you, somehow? Is… is it my brother? ” Dan’s face was a complicated mix of expressions as he looked down. Confusion, anger, sadness. His hands clenched into fists as he looked down at his feet.
“No, Dan! No!” Zach said, stepping forward and putting his hands under the wolf’s chin and forcing him to look him in the eyes. “I just think we should distance ourselves at work, that’s all. I’m not ashamed of anything we’ve done. Never! I like you, Dan. I like you quite a lot.” The wolf brought his own hand up near his face and rested it against the back of Zach’s, holding it there as he pressed into it. Amber eyes gazed longingly back into pools of azure. “I don’t want you to get hurt, Dan. I don’t want to lose you.”
“Sir?” Dan whined, tears in his eyes at the sudden unexpected honesty.
“I don’t want to lose this… whatever it is between us. I know I’ve only just found it but it’s important to me. You are important to me. And I want to know where it can go from here. You… are my pack.”
Dan blinked the moisture from his eyes, momentarily overwhelmed. A tear rolled down his muzzle. His breath hitched as he smiled and leaned into Zach’s hand. They stood that way for a moment, collecting themselves. It was then that the door suddenly opened with a loud squeak, causing them to freeze. There was no hiding the fact that something was happening from the coworker that had just stepped in. The Ram almost let out a bleat in alarm before he turned tail and walked back out from where he came.
“Oh boy,” Zach hissed. Dan only winced as he looked back at Zach.
~~~~~~
Zach and Dan returned to their desks and continued to work after lunch. The curious glances anytime one of them self their cubicle had intensified. Curious eyes peering in as they walked by, knowing smirks tossed their direction. The tension in their cubicle could be cut with a knife as they waited for the proverbial shoe to fall. At 15 minutes until the expected end of their shift, they were beginning to think that maybe nothing would come of the situation. Dan looked over his monitor and smiled at Zach and the husky smiled back at him. There was a knock at their cubicle door that drew their attention to the pine marten standing in the opening.
“Gentleman, can I see you both in my office please?” said Miles, before stepping away to his office. With those few words Zach’s heart dropped into his stomach like an anvil but across from him Dan was serene. As they stood, Zach’s hands began to shake as he clenched them and tried to breath deep. Dan simply set a hand on his shoulder and looked down on him, projecting confidence that Zach himself did not have.
“All will be well, Sir. No matter how this ends, all will be well.”
“H-h-how c-can you say t-that , Dan?”
“Because, I have you. And you have me. We’ll get through this together, like a… like–”
“A pack?” Zach asked. Dan smiled and nodded.
“Yes, like a pack.”
Entering Miles’ office, Zach wasn’t sure what to expect. The pine marten motioned for them to sit and waited a moment, evaluating them with keen eyes.
“Gentleman, I’ve been approached about a sensitive matter that needs to be addressed before it gets out of hand. Human Resources has received several reports that there has been a breach of company policy. Before an official investigation is opened, I would like to discuss with you both openly and honestly. Is that acceptable?”
“Yes, Sir. This is acceptable,” replied Dan. Before Zach could speak up, Dan continued. “I take full responsibility for all impropriety, Sir. Zach has been a consummate professional and any breaches of policy are my own doing. I’ve taken the liberty of drafting a letter of resignation,” he said, slipping a piece of paper he had concealed from Zach onto Miles’ desk.
“Dan!” Zach gasped, looking at the wolf in shock.
“Zach attempted to warn me off several times but I wouldn’t accept “no” for an answer. It is my responsibility to amend things.”
Miles tapped a pen on his desk several times, pursing his lips in thought. He sighed and set the pen down and spread his paws upon the table.
“Zack?” Miles, asked. “Anything else to add?”
“Sir, what can I do? If the issue is that I am his Supervisor, can you demote me?”
Leaning back in his chair, Miles sighed and picked up Dan's resignation letter. He looked at it for a long moment. “I can see that you both care about each other. Mr. Padfoot, you in particular are a very noble wolf. But the love of a wolf is a powerful thing.”
“Sir?” Dan and Zach asked in unison, looking at each other in confusion. Miles picked up a picture frame on his desk and gazed lovingly onto the photo inset there. He spun the frame around and set it in the middle of his desk revealing the short pine marten hanging from the shoulders of a tall black furred wolf, feet dangling off the ground as they kissed. They were both clothed in red sports jerseys, but the wolf was wearing football pads under his. The others around them were similarly dressed, jumping for joy and patting the wolf on his back. It looked like the entire football team.
“You could say that I’ve quite literally been in your shoes, Zach. This is my husband Carter, he works in Acquisitions but when we started here we were both in similar roles. When I got my promotion, someone found out and we had to make a change.”
“Miles, I had no idea you had a husband. Did you?” replied Zach, looking at Dan.
“No, Sir,” replied Dan.
“Gentleman, we need to make a change,” Miles said, taking the paper and walking to a shredder. He fed the offending document into the machine and let it run. “Zach is right, the issue at hand is that he is in a supervisory role and you are not. Company policy does not permit this as it’s a conflict of interest. What I am going to do is move you both to a level playing field where that won’t matter. I have it on good authority that Acquisitions is looking for hungry folks to help grow the team. Give me a few days to get the paperwork ready.”
“You’re transferring us?”
“Yes of course. It would be a shame to lose you. I would be lying if I said I had not expected this day to come. Honestly, it’s been pretty evident for several weeks. I’ll need to find a replacement for you to train, of course, but we’ll be moving you both as quickly as possible. Any questions?”
“Plenty,” Zach said.
“Well, if they can wait I would save it for next week.”
Dan had a thoughtful look on his face before he turned to Miles.
“Mr. Dascity, I… think I have the perfect candidate for a replacement. I can provide you with his resume on Monday.”
“That would be splendid, Mr. Padfood. Thank you gentleman, enjoy your weekend.” Miles dismissed them from his office. After their departure he picked up his phone and dialed.
“Hello hun, everything okay?” Rumbled a warm voice on the other line. Miles smiled into the receiver.
“Yes my Shadow, all is well. Just dealing with some office politics. Remember that day I told you was coming between my two favorite employees? It’s here.”
“Oh, the odd couple?”
“Babe, we’re an odd couple,” Miles chuckled. Carter laughed warmly on the other end of the line.
“That is true. Yes, I remember them. Do I finally get my teeth on them?”
“Yes, you do. I’m sending the paperwork over now.”
“Finally! I honestly think they’re going to do great based on what you told me.”
“I do too. What’s for dinner?”
“Oh, I was thinking about salmon planks with egg noodles. Sound good to you?”
“It sounds lovely. I’ll be ready in a few, see you at the car?”
“Yep, will do. Love you!
“Love you too!”
