Moon looked up from her book, and over to her husband. Qibli was asleep next to her, his tail was set on a pillow on the end of the bed. She looked out the window, and realized that it was almost noon. She had been reading for a few hours now.
“Hey.” Moon called to her sandwing.
Qibli jumped, and looked around. “What’s up?”
“We were going to Wasp hive today, but the sun will likely set by the time we get there.”
Qibli nodded, and got up from the bed. He nuzzled Moon for a moment before walking over to the bathroom. Moon got up, and started to pack their things.
“I’m sorry.” Qibli called from the bathroom.
“About what?”
“About my barb, and just me limiting everything.”
“It’s fine, as long as I’m with you, everything is fine.”
“I know you wanted to do a bunch of stuff.”
“Not really, I just wanted some peace.”
“Then why did we chase them?”
Moon chuckled. “And maybe a little adventure, but until your tail heals, were stuck.”
Qibli walked back into the room. “It feels better, but also kind of numb, which is odd.”
“Normal.” Moon told him. “Your nerves are healing at this point.”
Qibli frowned. “Then back to pain.”
“Yeah, and I know how much you miss stabbing people.”
Qibli laughed. “It was my favorite thing to do!”
They walked out, and said their goodbyes to Silverspot and Burnet, then left the hive and made their way towards Wasp hive. Blue and Cricket were with them, Sunny and Starflight had already left, but Luna and Swordtail chose to stay behind for a few more days. The sun had set when they landed at the base of Wasp hive. Moon noticed Cricket and Blue’s tension, and could tell that being back here brought uneasiness to them.
“You two could go to Jewel hive instead.” Moon told them.
“Then you would be here alone, and that wouldn’t be right.” Cricket replied.
“What about Sunny and Starflight?”
“Jewel hive’s better, by far.” Blue told them.
They walked through the main entrance, past the scratched wood, and up towards the main floor. They arrived to see a cleaning team tidying up, and laughed to themselves.
“Looks like we just missed the academy.” Qibli chuckled.
“Whew, that was close.” Moon replied.
“Aren’t they going to Jewel hive too?” Qibli asked.
“Yeah, hopefully Starflight can keep Sunny away.” Moon answered.
They walked into their new rooms, settled in, and quickly fell asleep.
“Sunny, where exactly are we?” Starflight asked.
He had a blindfold on his face, and it made him nervous. Sunny didn’t really want to make him put it on, but it was a special occasion.
“Alright, take it off.” She told him.
Starflight flicked the blindfold off, and gasped. They were in the Jewel library. Books lined the walls and reached up to the ceiling, and many dragons were spread about, reading and sorting books. Sunny did a double-take as she started to recognize some of the dragons.
Uh oh.
“Sunny!” A familiar voice called.
The golden sandwing turned to see Kinkajou run up to her, Turtle was almost running to keep up with her.
“You better go before anybody else sees.” Turtle told them.
“Too late.” Starflight replied, and pointed to Tsunami as she started walking over to them.
“How was I supposed to know this would be their first stop?” Sunny replied. “All my work trying to stay away is already messed up at the first step.”
“Hey guys, just got here?” Tsunami asked.
“Yeah.” Starflight replied. “You?”
Tsunami nodded, she looked tired, but there was also something else.
“You okay?” Starflight asked.
Tsunami sucked in a breath. “Yeah, just tired.”
Starflight could tell there was something else, but let it go for now.
“Were going to go, before you give us stuff to do.” Starflight replied.
“Alright, we won’t be here tomorrow, unless a few dragonets sneak off. So you can come back then.”
Sunny nodded, and grabbed Starflight. They both ran out of the library, and made their way to one of the inns to get a room.
Michael landed in an open field, the magic radiating from this location was extreme, and it made Trice and Carnados nervous. The two dragons landed beside them, and they approached the source. A hivewing stood in the center of a perfect circle. Runes were painted on the ground, and the hivewing’s body. Another hivewing stood nearby, and was pacing nervously.
“Misty, I’m not sure about this.” He spoke to her.
The female, Misty, didn’t respond, she was focused on her work. The immortals stalked the two hivewings for a minute, before she gasped and turned her head.
“They’re here.” She spoke.
Michael calmly stepped out of the brush. He had changed his shape, his horns now longer, and spikes started to extend from his back. His tailblade became serrated, and glinted viciously in the moonlight. The male hivewing, Hornet, backed away in fear, but Misty stood her ground.
“I’m not afraid of you.” Misty shouted at him.
“You should be.” Michael smirked.
“The prophecy states you can’t hurt me, it must be those with the destiny.” Misty replied.
“That may be true, but living with prophecies for countless amounts of years teaches you some things, like loopholes.” Michael turned to Hornet.
Trice jumped out from behind him, and pinned him to the ground. Hornet’s roar was silenced when Trice brought her talonblades to his throat.
“Stop!” Misty roared, and blasted Trice with a blast of light.
The dust settled, and Trice remained untouched. She smirked at Misty, and flicked her tailblade.
“Takes more than that to harm me.” Her eyes flashed pink.
Misty froze.
“I’m sure you have no idea who you’re messing with.” Carnados spoke, emerging from the brush. “Just as you have no idea how much power you have, or exactly what your doing with it.”
“I know exactly what I’m doing.” Misty smirked again, and focused her power.
The ground below them rumbled, and creatures started to rise out of the ground.
“Elementals, really?” Michael groaned.
Carnados snapped, and the elementals started to explode, but more kept coming.
“I swear to existence if you say it.” Michael turned to Carnados.
He smirked. “Let there be CARNAGE.”
Trice facepalmed, and Michael agreed with that movement.
Starflight, wake up.
Starflight gasped. What is it?
Danger is coming your way. The dragon behind the titans started summoning elementals, and they are heading your way.
He looked over at Sunny, and nudged her.
“Hey, we need to get up.”
“Mhm.” Sunny groaned. “What time is it?”
“Just after midnight, Michael says there’s danger coming our way.”
Sunny jumped, and they both got to their feet. They rushed out of the hive, and noticed a strange red glow nearby.
“WILDFIRE!” A hivewing yelled. “Get the brigade!”
“NO!” Starflight yelled back. “Danger is near! Prepare the soldiers!”
The hivewing looked stunned, realizing that this was a nightwing. He looked Starflight over, before turning and ringing a bell nearby. Bells sounded all across the hive as the armies started to form. Starflight watched as strange bipedal beings emerged from the smoke, and looked up at the hive. Tsunami rushed up to them.
“What’s going on?” She asked them.
“The dragon behind the titans has sent these to us.”
Not just to you, but to Wasp hive as well.
“Why just those two?”
Not sure of motives yet.
Starflight turned as hivewings started to swarm out of the hive.
“How flammable are hivewings?” Sunny asked
“Not very, silkwings are though.” Starflight replied. “And this whole hive.”
My forces are two minutes away, they can hold them back.
“You will not stop me.” Misty yelled at them. “I will avenge my family.”
“Is that why you’re doing this?” Trice rolled her eyes. “So original.”
“They killed them, and burned down my hive, I will kill them all.”
“Then why are you attacking your own kind?” Michael asked.
“What?” Hornet turned to Misty. “You’re doing what?”
“How do you know…” Misty shook her head. “Nevermind, I need to be queen for my plan to work.”
“Sending fire and lava elementals isn’t going to do the job.” Michael replied. “It’s not enough.”
“What about the titan?” Misty smirked.
“I’ll deal with that later.” Michael waved a paw, causing Misty to frown.
“The hivewings will bow to me, I will be a good queen. I’ll give the silkwings their own land, their own rights, and their own queen of THEIR choosing.”
Michael crushed a rock elemental under his paw. “But you want to kill all the leafwings.”
“Not really, they can leave, I will give them the option to leave the continent, like I said, I’m fair.”
Michael nodded. “Makes sense.”
“Wait… what?” Hornet replied.
“Don’t let him fool you, his entire purpose is to make sure good defeats bad.” Misty rolled her eyes. “But the good can’t beat me if they’re dead. The prophecy can be broken by those it contains.”
“He’s not in the prophecy.” Michael pointed to Hornet.
“He’s the future king of hivewings.” Misty smiled. “Of course he is.”
“Nope.” Trice shook her head.
“Negative.” Carnados smirked, summoning a wave of strange creatures to fight the elementals.
Misty’s face fell, and she looked at Hornet. “That changes things.”
Hornet looked confused. “What?”
“I need to put you somewhere safe.”
“Won’t work.” Michael cut in. “Nowhere is safe from me.”
Trice snuck around him again and brought her tailblade to his throat.
“Hi again.” Trice smirked.
“Ugh, twice in one hour!”
“I know, I would be annoyed too.” Trice chuckled.
“Let him go, or I will summon all the titans.” Misty snarled.
Michael snorted. “There are a lot more than three of us, you know.”
“Ugh, let’s go.” Misty roared.
Suddenly, the elementals vanished, along with the two hivewings. Michael sighed.
“And here was me hoping we could stop it.”
“You do that every time.” Trice replied.
“Might as well.” Michael shrugged.
Starflight watched as Michael’s soldiers rushed in and cleared out the elementals. The battle lasted about two hours, and soon they were spraying water and ice on the remains.
“That’s so cool, they can just breath water like that.” Sunny spoke.
“And that ice breath, it actually creates walls of ice.” Tsunami replied.
“Hey, my frostbreath works like that too.” Winter replied.
Lynx laughed, and shook her head.
“Did you get any word about Wasp hive?” Tsunami asked.
“They’re fine, Michael sent a battalion there too.” Starflight replied.
“This hivewing is really getting on my nerves.” The seawing shook her head.
“Moon said that they met her.” Starflight told her. “Her name is Misty, and she does have white eyes.”
“SHE!? Really?” Tsunami replied.
“What, did Blister and Burn not get it for you.” Winter turned to her.
“More of, Darkstalker, Morrowseer, Cottonmouth, who all caused our pain and trauma.” Tsunami replied.
“Good point.” Lynx nodded.
“How are we supposed to beat her, if she’s powerful enough to cause this.” Tsunami sighed.
“Simple.” Michael appeared behind them.
Everybody jumped, and a few yelped in fright.
“All you need to do, is find the six elemental staffs. Fire, Stone, Water, Light, Dark, and Air.” He told them.
Sunny blinked. “And where are those?”
“The water is, obviously, in the middle of the ocean, the fire is currently in a vault on the nightwing island. The stone is buried in the tunnels under Pantala, near where the Othermind was. The air is somewhere in the mountains of the skywing kingdom, and the dark is somewhere on an old battlefield.”
“A… battlefield?” Tsunami replied.
“You remember how the nightwings used to be the most powerful; they held massive power, and many wars against them were held. The nightwings lost the Dark Staff during a huge battle, and they always believed, until they forgot all about it, that this was why they lost in the end.”
“Where is this place?” Lynx asked
“It’s a large island about six days northwest of here. But I can teleport us there to search later. We should be more worried about the others. If Misty gets her claws on one, things get a lot more difficult.”
“I can get the water one, Riptide can come with me.” Tsunami told him.
“It’s hidden in another seawing tribe.” Michael explained.
Everybody froze.
“Wait, another seawing tribe?” Tsunami cut him off.
“Yeah, the seawings have the largest population on this planet.” Michael replied.
Tsunami was stunned. “Oh.”
“Anyway, it’s in their vault, and they all think it’s cursed and will likely give it to you happily.”
“Is it cursed?” Sunny asked.
“No, just bad luck for the one dragon who knew how to use it.” Michael shrugged.
Tsunami just nodded. “Where is it?”
“Six days swim west, don’t go any further west, and try to just go straight there and straight back.” Michael told her.
“Now who wants to go back to the Othermind cave?” Winter asked.
“We can.” Lynx nudged him.
“Wait, what!” Winter jumped.
“We’ll go get it.” Lynx told Michael.
“Just wander around, you’ll stumble upon it.” Michael answered.
“We can get the fire one, when we get back.” Starflight offered.
Sunny nodded. “Yeah, and maybe we can send Peril and Clay to get the air one.”
Michael nodded “I’m going to keep Misty guessing, and make sure she’s distracted.”
Tsunami nodded, and turned to find Riptide. Sunny and Starflight went back to sleep, and the others went to talk to the students.
“So, when are we leaving?” Riptide asked.
“Instead of returning to Pantala, were going west.” Tsunami told him.
“Ah.” Riptide nodded, then yawned. “It seems a late-night attack kept me up all night.”
Tsunami nodded. “Were giving the students a free day, so we don’t have to do anything.”
Riptide smiled. “Then let’s go to sleep.”
Tsunami nodded, and they both climbed into bed and fell asleep.
Two weeks later
Starflight smiled as the Dragontail peninsula appeared into view. Sunny was flying beside him, and the other students of Jade Mountain were far behind. Sunny gasped as she saw the large network of trees and silk homes. The new leafwing tribe was being shared with the silkwings, and they had constructed a massive new city. The couple landed on a large platform, and were greeted by Sundew and Willow. Willow was leaning happily against Sundew, and Starflight smiled at them.
“You got married?” Sunny asked.
“Yeah, last night.” Willow smiled and nuzzled Sundew.
“Congrats.” Sunny replied.
“We heard you got attacked.” Sundew told them. “What happened?”
“A hivewing, who used to live in Bloodworm hive, discovered her powers and now wants to either kill or banish all leafwings.” Starflight stated bluntly.
Sundew flinched. “Curse my mother and her impulsiveness.”
Willow sighed. “At least she was here yesterday.”
“Only because the Queen made her.” Sundew replied.
“Where are the others?” Willow turned to Starflight and Sunny.
“About an hour behind. Not sure when Moon and Qibli will arrive. Nor Cricket and Blue.”
They walked along the narrow bridges to a bustling market.
“This place is booming!” Sunny exclaimed.
“Yeah, it got popular because of the trees.” Willow replied.
Sunny stopped at a stall, and bought a bag of odd-looking fruits. She walked back and handed one to Starflight.
“What’s this?” He asked.
“It’s a guava, they have them in the rainforest but they’re rare for some reason.” Sunny told him.
He bit into the guava, and enjoyed the interesting taste. He nodded approvingly, and they made their way to the royal district. As they entered, they noticed dragons of all tribes walking about and chatting.
“This place is so nice.” Sunny smiled.
Starflight nodded. “Who knew that rediscovering a continent would bring everybody together.”
He turned and noticed a shady looking seawing, the seawing was looking back and forth, checking to make sure nobody was watching. Starflight ducked behind a corner as he watched the strange dragon place a small box under a branch, then there was a flash of light and the dragon rushed away.
“Sunny, I think something bad is about to happen.”
“What?” Sunny jumped.
Starflight rushed out from around the corner and lifted the branch. He saw a fuse running into the box and turned.
“RUN, It’s a bomb!” He yelled.
Everybody turned and ran, Starfligth turned and saw how fast the fuse was running down, he knew it would be too late for them to run. Just as the fuse was reaching the box, Starflight dived in front of Sunny.
