Lonely greeted her closest male friend, a human Christian priest by the name of Jacob Dixon. He extended an arm to her and pulled her up on the carriage next to him, his Haflinger pony snorted as he pulled them along; loaded up in the back of the wagon were treats and toys for the local poor.
"You look hale today, Jacob. I love your robe ensemble." Lonely complimented, she herself wore her favorite white two piece outfit and her gold cross necklace. A giant crucifix dangled from her friend's neck; he wore robes of green with gold cloth wings at his back and shoulders, and a hood graced his head. A long brown beard fell from his chin.
"Yeah? They're newly acquired, young Miss. How have you been holding up, Lonely?" Jacob asked her, she withdrew a tiny silver magic mirror and showed him her recent goings on; visiting her mother, her angel boyfriend James' new rescued stallion he was nursing tenderly back to health, rides with her bodyguard Magnus, who was following them both as they spoke on his massive white Shire stallion. Magnus was an anthro pegasus warrior whom James' father had hired as a bodyguard for Lonely as a gift to his son, as he knew how much the mortal angel treasured his girlfriend.
"Oh...I was about to ask you about James, now I see him in your little mirror, there. You know Lonely, I don't even like these kids." Jacob teased with a little chuckle. She smiled warmly and laughed too, giving his golden shoulderpad a little rub, he gave a brief but warm smile her way, pulling the reins, his Halfinger stallion stopped and so did Magnus on his horse behind them. Jacob opened his own magic scroll and a picture appeared of a beautiful female soldier on horseback with blonde hair and ornate armor. She smiled at the viewer, then turned and gallopped swiftly away. Jacob closed the magic scroll with a snort; Lonely laid her hand on his back gently.
"I wished she'd leave me alone, I want to live out my days in peace. I have work to do with the church, I don't need her haunting me. She's not entitled to that much power. She's not entitled to any." He growled softly, Lonely nodded, listening kindly.
"Of course, my friend. I am certain you are not forgotten, for you are not forgettable." Lonely tried to comfort, helping him unload the wagon with supplies for the poor.
"Whatever, dear girl, I don't wish to talk about her any more." Jacob exhaled.
"Of course, no, I certainly understand." Lonely agreed, Jacob looked a little guilty for being terse with her but he felt he needed to drop it.
"Here, Lonely. Take these for the kids." Jacob said, the ornate golden cross staff he wore on his back glinted in the light as he handed Lonely some care packages with little crosses on them, she held them gently with a smile.
"Okay, I'll finish setting up over here." Jacob informed her, she knew he liked to be alone to work so he could concentrate on what he was doing, but he'd welcome her company once he was finished. She gave a polite curtsy and walked off with the treats toward a big rock, Magnus following her on his huge steed, Jacob watched him silently as he set up his little table and bible, preparing for the crowd that would soon come to them for help and prayer. Lonely sat on the big rock, listening to the distant red sea, Magnus dismounted his charger and she smiled up at his enormous frame; he was the same height and weight as her huge angelic beau, except he favored offense in combat instead of defense like her man did.
"My lady, may I join you?" Magnus asked politely.
"Please, sit." Lonely replied kindly. Magnus did, his armor clanking slightly and the rock shuddering as he sat next to her, his long white silky tail spread out.
"Is he hale?" Magnus asked, bowing his head, "Forgive me, I'm prying."
"He's very strong, so very, very strong." Lonely confessed, but Magnus saw the concern on her face.
"Lonely, the kids are here!" Jacob called to her, his voice sounded better now. Lonely perked.
"Oh, wonderful!" She got up and so did Magnus, helping her to her feet and towering over her, she thanked him and he bowed. Suddenly they heard children's screams and the shriek of creatures not fully human; Lonely inhaled hard and started running, shouting an apology to Magnus, who unsheathed his enormous wide sword and bared his fangs. As they drew closer, Lonely broke into a run and reached out, forgetting her common sense in concern for her best friend. Jacob had cast holy shield spells around a small group of crying children huddled behind him; two raiding harpies of the enemy tribe that had captured James' best friend Savera were savagely attacking the priest, who was too busy casting protective spells on the terrified children to protect himself; they raked their fierce talons down his arms and he grimaced in pain, his blood spraying him and his attackers.
"Jacob!" Lonely cried, Magnus was charging up behind her, a wild look in his eyes.
"Lonely, no, stay away!" Jacob warned. He managed to cast a healing spell on her, muttering in Latin and holding his holy magical bible as the harpies turned on her instead, she ducked and covered her head with her hands as they started to tear at her, but Jacob's healing spell mended her as they attacked.
"Stay down on the sand, my lady! Do not lift your head, no matter what you hear!" Magnus ordered, Lonely obeyed, flattening herself down more and freezing there. With a primal battle scream Magnus swung his 4 foot blade with such savagery it cut the attacking harpy in half at her waist, spraying Lonely and Jacob with blood and gore; the children were still hysterical and Jacob stood in front of them, keeping them behind him; he kept talking softly in Latin, casting shields on the little ones with his holy priest magic and a healing spell on Magnus, as he could see Lonely was no longer in danger. The second harpy attacked and Magnus swiftly beheaded her, spraying more blood all over Lonely, Jacob and the children. Lonely shook and whimpered loudly, the children screamed in terror, and Jacob prayed harder, ignoring his shaking limbs.
"Kill the priest, he's healing the barbarian!" The lead harpy raider shrieked, all 6 of them set on Magnus, who roared and swung his enormous blade in a spinning attack, he cut three more harpies in half in one fast blow and cut the other 3 asunder right down the center of their bodies, their screams gurgling as he slaughtered them all. Jacob threw another healing spell on Magnus, who stood atop the mound of mutilated harpies and roared his victory, covered in blood. Jacob threw healing spells on the children and Lonely, then finally on himself; he started to collapse but caught himself before Magnus could.
"Go, attend to Lonely, I'm fine. It's okay children....how about a story, come over here, and I'll read to you." Jacob told the 4 crying kids, trying to comfort them best he could, they nodded, sniffling hard, traumatized from the violence. Magnus picked Lonely up from the ground, steadying her.
"My lady, I apologize that you and the priest had to witness that, but I could not fail in my duty as your protector." Magnus assured her with a bow; the battle lust had passed and he was back to his usual calm self.
"Mmy...my thanks, strong warrior, for protecting Jacob, the dear children and myself. Are you injured?"
"Nay my lady, your friend's spells mended me well, they didn't get very close to me either." Magnus replied, "I know that was frightening, I am sorry. Attend to your friend, I will bury the enemy and cast a small ritual to honor them, as is our custom in my tribe. I will be within earshot at all times. I believe that was all of them, or I wouldn't see to this." Magnus apologized valiantly. Lonely bowed her head, grateful.
"How very honorable, dear Magnus. I will be with Jacob and the children, how can I ever thank you for saving us all?" Lonely touched Magnus' muscled forearm; he smiled at her heroically.
"It is an honor to protect you, dear lady. An honor to spill blood for you, when all else fails. There was no time to negotiate here, that tribe is known throughout the land, they take no prisoners." Magnus assured her with a bow of his head, he knew Lonely preferred mercy over harm, and wished to reassure her.
"Ahh yes, from what they did to Savera I believe that fully! Thank you so much!" Lonely hugged Magnus, who returned it with 1 arm politely, he watched her join Jacob, who hugged her hard and tightly, grasping her face for just a moment; Magnus smiled at them, and they all calmed as Jacob read them a story from the new testament, Magnus could see them all shaking from adrenaline still; he had mostly stopped, his burned off in the rage of battle. He picked up all 8 harpies, now in 16 pieces, and dragged them to an impromptu grave, praying over it in the pagan ways of his tribe. Later on, when James found out how Magnus had protected his girlfriend, he would reward him handsomely with coins, gifts and praise, pleased beyond measure the mighty pegasus stallion had protected his Lonely.
