Author's Note: I decided to start a writing project based on characters in a D&D campaign that my boyfriend is running. It takes place during the Rime of The Frostmaiden adventure and I will try not to spoil it too much for others who are still playing that adventure. This story takes place during a week of downtime for the party. Also known as a tenday because there are ten days in a week in the Forgotten Relms setting.

It is dark for a midsummer day out in the Icewind Dale. A darkness that is normally applied to the winter months of the northern reaches of the world. The sun should be showing its magnificence at this time of day and this time of year. Unfortunately it has been choked for several years by divine intervention. The only lights in the dale is the moon and aurora at night and the constant lights from the residents of the vale.

The most civilized parts of the dale is known to the locals as Ten Towns; named after the ten townships scattered throughout the dale. There are some other settlements like the Dwarves that settled on the lone mountain, Kelvin's Cairn, at the center of the dale and the nomadic Reghedmen and their herds near the Reghed Glacier to the east.

Outside of the largest of the towns, Bryn Shander, three heavily bundled travelers gathered near a small corpse of trees that obscured them from the town. All three of them at a glance look like a group of gnolls due to their hunched digitigrade form. On closer inspection the group have tails that are not typically applied to the hyenid species. One of them has five fox tails of the northern red fox, one has a black tail of a wolf, and the last one (and the tallest of the three) has a striped white and black feline tail swaying absently behind them.

“Are you sure you want to leave us for a week foxy?" one of them asked with a hint of longing. His lupine features heavily covered by the thick furs to help ward off the chill of the frozen waste. Cobalt blue eyes pieces through his thick head wrappings at a vulpine man with a large dragon egg strapped on his back.

“I'm sure my love. Midrinath and I have to take this egg to our den and wait for it to hatch. It is important to bond right away," the fox replied. His five red fox tails curl around the egg in the hopes to keep it warm. A futile gesture considering it is a silver dragon egg.

“I concur," said the only female of the trio. She gave a yawn and stretched her very endowed feline stature giving the fox and wolf some eye-candy. “Since its parents are dead, it is up to me and Thraintar to adopt their child." Her blue eyes looks at the egg with a motherly softness. “The parents was great friends of mine. As much I want to give vengeance to their murderers, I cannot just abandon one of our own."

“You also needed time to read that damned book from Auriel's keep. It has been long overdue since my wife and I bonded. If you wanted you can come with us but I can't guaranteed you will be able to study anything in that book with me around."

“I know foxy," the wolf said affectionately and longing sadness, “Auntie and I are going to study this book and see if we can use it to access the glacier." He rolled his eyes when he mentioned his aunt.

Thraintar leaned in for a kiss and the wolf reciprocated. Their long canine tongues fight for control in their muzzles and eventually Lucian won. They separated and drool strings out from their muzzles. “I love you wulfy," the fox said dearly.

Lucian's nose touches Thraintar's nose,“I love you too foxy."

“I will be back as soon as I can. We cannot let this unholy winter prolong. Perhaps once this is all over you can stay at our place?"

“That sounds nice if your wife allows it."

The tigress wife gives a slight cough. “As much as I like to see where this goes, we have to fly now." A flurry of snowflakes obscures her form. The cyclone gets larger making Lucian and Thraintar step back. As the snowy cyclone dissipates, a form of a massive adult silver dragon appears. On her back is a saddle with some saddlebags that is strapped behind it.

“Always a flair of the dramatic," Thraintar said rolling his eyes with feigned annoyance with a glowing grin. He always loved how powerful and beautiful Midrinath's true form is. He opens one of the large saddlebags and puts the egg in it. “May need to offset the weight. Do you mind if I crawl in the other saddlebag?"

“Sure. Go ahead. We need to pack right or risk the weight shift."

Thraintar climbs in the other saddlebag opposite of the bag holding the egg and sits down. Midrinath then closes the flaps and stands up and walks a short distance causing Thraintar to jostle a bit in the sack causing him to be dazed.

“The balance seems right," She looks at Lucian and gives him a nice sloppy lick with her tongue. “You are a handsome wolf and I'm beginning to see why he is infatuated with you. Protect him and I will considered adding you the relationship. Harm him and you will be joining the last person who hurt him," She said gesturing to her abdomen to prove the point.

Lucian froze by the threat the dragon posed and knows she will carry it out. While he is a decent wizard, going solo against an adult silver dragon by himself is a suicide. “I… understand… harm him and I..." he gulps, "become dragon food."

Sensing his fear, Midrinath reigns back her intimidating presence. “Good. Remember that Thraintar is part of my hoard. For now farewell. I will see you at the glacier in ten days." She then takes to the skies and heads south to the Spine of the World.

The Spine of the World is a mountain chain on the northwest region of the continent Faerûn. On one of its many peaks, a home is dugout on the side facing north towards Icewind dale. On a ledge sat Thraintar. Covered in cold winter gear save the five fox tails swaying from his backside. His legs dangle off the edge of the stone platform. Before him is the entire region of Icewind Dale. Kelvin's Cairn is small not due to distance, but the mountain Thraintar is on is at least three times taller than the lone mountain in the dale. Frozen winds buffet the fox bring in the usual chill of the Icewind dale.

It was night, well as night could be, in the dale. The Northern Lights put up a show cascading the sky with green and blue auras. He can see lights from the distant settlements of Ten Towns though sorrow pierces through him when the expected lights from one of the towns, Dugan's Hole, never lit up again.

“It is getting late and it is cold outside and not safe for you."

Thraintar looked up and he sees his wife, Midrinath, in all her glory. The imposing silver dragon had a motherly air to her. The scales glisten like the fairest mithril he has ever seen and the eyes are like looking into cut aquamarine gems. He gets up from the edge and joins her, “Lets retire. You have yet given me a tour of our den."

Both the dragon and fox entered their lair. Thick stone doors close in behind them and a runic glow of wards of protection seal the door. “Fine stonework from those doors and these halls. You did all of this yourself?"

“Yes. I am glad you like this. Even though the dwarves and I have a strenuous relationship, I still admire their ways of protection. Practical yet ascetically pleasing. Plus I want to feel like home. You have grown up with dwarves during your entire childhood. I say they raised a fine young fox."

“Young!" Thraintar said with fake indignation, “I'm almost as old as you! Silly dragon."

She ruffles his head with one of her large paws, “And we will be young for many years to come."

The first room is a hallway that leads into a large chamber. The east and west walls are decorated with dwarven pillars. Each pillar has a sconce of a crystal that shines a bright blue light and warm as a torch yet absent of flame and is safe to touch. Next to the door is a series of pegs and a mat. Thraintar takes off his winter gear and cloak and hangs them on the pegs and puts his two boots onto the mat. He still keeps his armor on and walks into the main chamber.

The chamber is about thirty meters wide and thirty meters long. The ceiling is about fifteen meters tall and supported with large stone pillars every ten meters. The capital of the pillars are like the limbs of trees holding up the ceiling and from them are more of the crystal lamps. A skylight illuminates the center of the room and several planters both large and small are in the direct light. The temperature is warm as a spring day in Balder's Gate.

“This is beautiful," Thraintar said. “Look! You even brought my favorite flowers!" He saunters over to a bush that just bloomed orange roses. He felt something get put on his hair. He idly picks up the orange rose placed there and looks up to Midrinath.

At this point Midrinath changed forms into a stunning and buxom white furred lupine. Her hourglass figure, full hips, and a generous amount of bust dominate her physique. Her modesty is only concealed by a furred bra and a loincloth. He felt entranced by this form she decided to take.

“My eyes are up here you silly kitsune," Midrinath teased. She raised her paws again and put them on Thraintar's shoulders and pulls him into an embrace.

Despite being a dragon with an affinity to the cold, Midrinath is warm to the touch. While she shrunk in her transformation into a humanoid form, she is still quite tall. Tall enough to grab Thraintar's head and put it between her breasts. He looks up through her valley and she looks down to him and touched each others noses in a kiss.

“Lets retire for the night. I will show you the rest of our den tomorrow."

On queue, Thraintar lets out a massive yawn exposing her to his mighty (yet small) fox jaws.

“Sure. I have not slept in a real bed in a while." He mumbled. A surprised yip escapes him when she suddenly grabs him and carries him bridal style.

Midrinath precedes to carry him into their bedchamber. It has three beds. One bed is designed for a hatching and a large silvery egg sits on it. Bear furs are nestled around it to prevent it from rolling around. The other bed is made for a large dragon and it saw a lot of use by the indention marks on the pillow but it is very well kept. The third and last bed is a humanoid bed fit for a king. Lighting up the room is a simple hearth and a crystal chandelier. The crackling flames from the hearth radiates warmth into the room.

Midrinath gently drops Thraintar onto his two feet and directs him to an armor stand. She then helps him take off all of his armor and put it onto the stand leaving Thraintar in nothing but a loincloth. He showed off his vulpine glory with orange fur and gray 'socks' on his arms and legs. A cream colored fur coats his abdomen and his inner thighs. Midrinath gets a full view of his athletic yet feminine build causing her to drool ice cubes.

He looks at the bed and notices all the snowflakes on the sheets and while normally it would not be an issue for him, the association of snowflakes to Auril has put him on edge. With a snap of his fingers, he cast prestidigitation and changed the colors of the bed from a light blue with snowflakes to a dark blue with the surface of Selûne at the center with a wolf howling. He then got onto the bed and sat on it.

“Why did you… oh. I did not think about that. I'm sorry honey."

“The past few days have been an ordeal. Raiding Auril's keep has…" Thraintar clammed up in disgust and trauma. The horrors of one of the trials comes up in mind and seeing the madness and destruction brought a great deal of pain and sorrow. “I can never see the snowflake again without being reminded of her horrors. It is only a preview of what will happen if the sun never shone it's light on the dale."

“I have seen what you have seen. When your emotions are really strong, it bleeds over into our connection," Midrinath said, “Tell me more about this wolf you been courting with? Was he a good lay?"

Thraintar blushed and appreciated the change of subject and started to regale the romance he has with the wulfen of the group. Lucian Harpell is his name and he arrived at the dale with him. During the past few months he and Lucian grew really close. “He is a smart wolf. I bet he can teach you some stuff to help out with some of our endeavors."

“I'm sure he is more than just smart," Midrinath smirked.

“He is an awesome lay. I had to resist the urge to make myself fertile for him several times. I wanted to finished dealing with Auril first," Thraintar recalled with a fondness in his voice. His loins bulge in the loincloth in response to the recollection of letting that wolf breed him.

“How soon will I be able to see him? I was disappointed that he did not join us," she grabs him and puts him onto her lap.

“Yeah. He wanted to read that book we stole from Auril's keep. We spent way too much time in that cursed fortress."

“Let me put your mind at ease. Scoot over. I want to sleep with you tonight."

Both Midrinath and Thraintar strip naked feeling more at ease with each other. Thraintar has quite an endowed set of testicles about the size of a lemon. His penis is slightly out of his sheath due to the previous topic however he is softening back into the sheath due to being tired. He looks at his wife as she finished stripping. Her white fur seems to glow like the skin of a sun elf maid. Her lips hidden in the tuft of fur on her groin. “Like what you see hun?" she asked.

“Very," Thraintar replied, “However I'm a bit too tired for sex tonight. Perhaps tomorrow?"

“Sure honey," she murmured and gave him a kiss.

They both climbed onto the bed. Thraintar curls his tails onto his wife and pulls her closer making her spoon him. She pulls up the covers and gave a snap of the fingers to cut out all the lights save for the hearth giving much warmth to the room.

“Good night my foxy prince," she whispered into his ear while giving him a hug. It warms his heart for he knows that Midrinath's physical touch grants a sense of protection.

“Good night my dragon princess," he lovingly replied, his tails hold her tighter in a hug.

They embraced as they slept in their bed. The only sound in the room is the crackling of the fire.
