Present day.

Tsunami woke and sighed. They had been allowed to wander freely, but the queen had been so ‘busy’, that she hasn’t been able to talk to them the entire time. Foam had caught back up with them and told them that the queen would meet up with them when she is available. Riptide snored in his sleep, and Tsunami looked down at him. She was worried about the situation with Starflight, and hoped he was okay. The last dream she got was from Glory, and they didn’t really know anything. A handful of seawing guards burst into the room suddenly, then noticed Tsunami’s position on top of Riptide and blushed.

What is it now? She asked.

The queen is ready for your presence. One of the guards told her.

Tsunami leapt to her feet, causing Riptide to open his eyes and almost tackle one of the guards.

What? Who? Where? He flashed in alarm.

The queen is ready, we need to go now. Tsunami told him.

After a few minutes of getting ready, the two swam out of the building and made their way into the palace. The throne room was covered in pearls, and the light sparkled off every square inch of the room. The queen sat on a throne, and looked at them with a slightly angry gaze.

So, you two, are here, to take the cursed staff? She asked them

Yes, we need it to help our fight on another continent. Tsunami told her.

And you’re a princess? The queen replied.

Yes, I’m soon to ascend to the throne.

Would you like to marry my son? We can gain extremely important ties.

Uhm, no Tsunami replied. My fiancé is right here.

Him? He’s not even a royal.

For me, all royals are related to me so…

Well, my offer still stands. The queen replied.

Really? I’m right here. Riptide flashed.

The queen shook her head. Anyways, were off topic. You only want the staff?

Yes. Tsunami replied.

Then you would leave?

Yes.

And not bring it back.

Unless you want me too.

Alright. The queen shrugged.

That’s it?

What?

I waited weeks for you to say that? You could have just gave it to me.

The queen shrugged again, and led them into another room. The Water Staff was sitting on a table, and the queen hung by in the corner of the room.

Nobody will stop you from leaving, your free to go. Feel free to come back, but don’t bring that with you.

Tsunami nodded, then took the sword and swam out of the palace. Riptide took his place next to her and they began their journey home. It took them a few weeks just to get back to Pantala, and Tsunami was glad to see land. A few of Michael’s soldiers were waiting for her, and retrieved the staff. They then preceded to escort Tsunami and Riptide back to the academy. It took them a lot longer to get home than usual because of their sore wings, but Jade Mountain soon appeared on the horizon. Tsunami was happy to be home, and she could tell Riptide was too. They landed in front of the entrance and was greeted by a quick hug from Sunny.

“You’re here?”

“I’ve been here for a little while now.” Sunny replied.

“How’s Starflight?”

“He’s been bedridden for the last two weeks, but he’s been moving around regularly for the last few days.” Sunny told her.

Tsunami smiled and nodded. “I was worried, whew.”

“You have no idea.” Sunny replied.

They walked over to the library, where Starflight was hurriedly rearranging everything.

“Leave Fatespeaker in charge for a little while, and everything is off.” He mumbled.

“Hey there, heard you got exploded.” Riptide called over.

Starflight looked over, and nodded at the two seawings.

“About time you two got back, I was about to send Turtle to go get you. Got enough alone time?”

Tsunami blushed, and Riptide winked at him. Sunny walked over to the desk and laid down on the seat with a huff.

“Are you okay?” Tsunami asked.

“Yeah, just a bit tired the last few days.”

“You probably need more rest.” Tsunami told her. “I’ll take over, and get someone to cover your classes.”

“No need, I’m fine.” Sunny told her. “I mean it”

“Alright, alright.” Tsunami relented.

Starflight looked over at a shelf and groaned. “What has been going on here?”

“Sorry, I planned on fixing it all today.” Fatespeaker said from behind the seawings. “You go relax, and I’ll fix it all.”

Starflight nodded in thanks, and joined Sunny behind the desk. He nuzzled her snout for a moment before turning to a grading scroll on the desk.

“Why are all their marks dropping?”

“I may have given them a difficult book, for a challenge.” Fatespeaker replied. “One of the ones Michael wrote.”

“What was it?”

“The Prophetic Destiny.”

“What?”

“It explains prophecies, and Michael gave us a custom version that went in depth into our prophecy, and how it was a self-fulfilled, not strict, one that came into existence through the dragons who believed in it.” Fatespeaker replied.

“Oh.” Starflight replied.

“The Pantalans were really into it, along with half the rest. The nightwings and rainwings didn’t really want to go into it though.”

Sunny chuckled. “I would imagine.”

“How was the open day?” Tsunami asked.

“It was cool, over four hundred young dragonets attended, with about a hundred older ones. Sunny and Starflight were still out so Trice, Michael, Clay, Peril, and I took over and each did a lesson. Trice did a general tribe education, where she told them about each tribe. Then Michael took over and told them about the Sand war, Darkstalker, and the Othermind stuff, which amazed them. Clay hated that part, so he went and took them on a tour of the whole school as acting headmaster.”

“Wait, acting headmaster?” Tsunami turned to Sunny.

“She needed a break, and Thorn and Glory were here. Thorn’s still here, taking some time off before she lays her egg.” Fatespeaker replied.

Tsunami looked back at Sunny, who had fallen asleep.

“Anyway, after Clay, Peril took them and taught them a bit of self-defense, before I took over and explained how the school works and how to sign up. We got so many submissions Michael’s planning to expand to nine winglets in a year or two.” Fatespeaker told her.

Tsunami’s jaw dropped. “Already? That was fast.”

“I guess we can handle way more than what we have, but it seems like there is enough.” Fatespeaker chuckled.

“You should go catch up with Clay, he knows all about it.” Starflight told her. “Fate, you need to fix this before I lose my mind.”

Fatespeaker nodded, and started rushing around, moving scrolls and books. Tsunami walked out of the library to find Clay.

Sunny woke up feeling nauseous, at first, she thought she had caught a cold or some kind of stomach bug, but it has been a week, and she hasn’t been feeling any better. She looked over at Starflight, and felt a strangely strong, loving feeling towards him. It was more than usual. She rubbed against his neck and closed her eyes, then she realized something.

Michael?

Yes?

Am I pregnant?

There was a pause. Congratulations Sunny.

Sunny nearly leaped out of her body, her eyes flew open and she looked up at Starflight.

How am I going to tell him?

He said he was ready, right?

Yeah.

Just tell him.

I’m more worried about my mother, she might flay Starflight alive.

…Then Tsunami, probably Glory, maybe Peril, and possibly even Luna.

Sunny sighed. Alright, I’ll tell him.

She started nuzzling against Starflight, purring heavily and giving his snout extra attention. Starflight woke with a smile and kissed her.

“You’re loving this morning.” He smiled

Sunny smiled back. “I have news.”

“What is it?”

“I’m pregnant.”

Starflight jumped, and looked over at her.

“Really?”

“Yep, Michael confirmed it.” Sunny smiled.

Starflight sat there for a while, which made Sunny scared, but then his face broke into the brightest, proudest smile Sunny had ever seen from him. It looked like the day she walked down the aisle to him. She smiled back just as brightly, and they shared that moment together.

“Are you happy?” Sunny asked.

“How could I not be? I’m gonna be a dad!” He replied.

“Yes you are.” Sunny nuzzled his snout more.

“Alright, it’s official, no more adventures for us.” He told her.

“The bomb didn’t already decide that for you?” Sunny replied.

“Nope, but this does.” Starflight replied.

“Now, better question, how are we going to tell everyone?”

“We could get them in a group together, or just tell them individually.”

“I think I want to do them individually.” Sunny replied. “Actually, you just tell them, I don’t want to be stared at the whole time.”

“You don’t mind if I tell everybody.”

“Not really, but there are a few people I would like to tell in person.”

“You want to start now?”

“Yes, who’s first?”

“I would like it to by my sister, she hasn’t left yet and I want to rub it in her face.” Starflight smirked.

Sunny laughed. “Then we can tell my mother.”

Starflight’s face fell. “I think she might kill me.”

“She won’t, she’ll know better.” Sunny replied.

They got out of bed, and made their way to the guest quarters. Fierceteeth and Strongwings were both working on some strange armor, but they both looked up when the two entered. Starflight could have sworn he saw his sister smile faintly when he entered, but it vanished quickly.

“Look who’s finally up and about.” She spoke.

“Hi, just wanted to tell you something before you leave, this news is kind of sudden, and were still reeling from it, but I thought you would want to know now before…”

“What is it?” Fierceteeth cut him off.

“I’m pregnant.” Sunny told her.

Fierceteeth and Strongwings froze, and looked over at the golden sandwing.

“Already?” Fierceteeth replied.

“It wasn’t intentional, but welcome nonetheless.” Sunny told her.

Fierceteeth looked stunned, then shook her head, and walked over and hugged Sunny. Sunny just sat there, stunned, while Fierceteeth wordlessly hugged her tighter. After a few moments, she backed away and walked back to the project she was working on. Sunny looked over at Starflight, who looked very confused. They walked out of the room and made their way down the hall to Thorn’s room. They walked in and found the queen laying on the bed, reading from some scrolls. She looked up at him and smiled.

“Hey you two, how is everything?” She asked them.

“We’ve had some… interesting news.” Sunny smirked.

“Interesting you say…” She replied. “What is it?”

“Well, uhm.” Sunny looked over at Starflight, who was trying to turn himself into a shadow.

“I’m pregnant.” She turned to her mother. “Wow, bit of Deja Vue, third time today.”

Thorn turned and gave Starflight a death glare, she looked ready to toss him off the edge of a cliff with his wings tied. There was a gasp behind them, and Sunny turned to see Moon and Qibli smiling at them.

“Well, congrats.” Moon nearly shouted.

Thorn continued her glare, making Starflight nervous. He looked between his wife and her mother, before groaning.

“Uhm, so… yeah.” He mumbled.

“You did this?” Thorn asked.

Starflight blushed. “I… yeah.”

Smolder nudged her, and motioned at them.

“I… congrats. Sunny, we need to talk.”

Thorn got up, and they walked out of the cave. Moon hugged Starflight, and Qibli fist bumped him.

“Congrats again, nice job.” Qibli told him.

Starflight blushed harder, and Sunny chuckled as they excited the hallway. Sunny walked out of the academy with her mother and they stopped in a nice sunny spot in a clearing.

“So, an heir with rights to the night and sand kingdom.” Thorn replied.

“I’ll try to teach them to not challenge you.”

“I’m not worried about that, they have just amount of a right as my dragonets.” Thorn motioned to her belly.

Sunny looked at her mother. “That will be odd, my siblings will be the same age as my own dragonets.”

Thorn chuckled. “I would imagine that happens often.”

Thorn laid down with a sigh, and smiled at Sunny. “It may be early, but if your happy, I’m happy.”

“I’m very happy mom, but I need you to not stare down Starflight every time you see him. He’s my husband, and the father of my egg. He wants to prove himself to you, but you’ve been making it hard.”

“I’m sorry, but I see you doing the same thing I did, what if he has to leave, and dies or gets stuck.”

“Look, Starflight isn’t my dad, he’s not only more powerful, but he also wants to stay here and probably never leave again.”

“More powerful?”

“He’s been training with Michael, he can control other dragon’s minds, make them see things, and even change their dreams.”

Thorn blinked. “Oh.”

“I’m not making the same mistakes as you, he obviously loves me, and almost died for me. Now he gave me this, and wants to raise this dragonet with me. All the things he’s given me, love, trust, and now life.”

“Alright, I’ll treat him like he’s my own son.”

Sunny smiled, and laid down next to her. Thorn extended a wing and pulled Sunny close to her, she enjoyed the feeling of her daughter curled against her side as they both fell asleep.

“How’s your tail?” Starflight asked Qibli.

“It’s better now, it doesn’t hurt anymore, but it will be a few more days before I can get my venom back.” Qibli replied.

Clay walked into the room, and looked between the three dragons.

“What’s going on?”

“Nothing.” Moon replied. “Just chatting.”

She glanced at Starflight, who nodded subtly.

“Well, Starflight, you and Sunny are probably going to want to come to the meeting.” Clay told them.

“Sunny’s with her mom, so we should leave them alone.” Starflight told him.

“Well, alright, you can catch her up later.”

They walked out into the staff meeting room, and Tsunami was rubbing her forehead.

“We have the Water Staff, Clay and Peril retrieved the Air, now we need to find the dark, light, stone, and fire.” Tsunami told them.

“Did Michael ever mention the light staff?” Starflight turned to Michael.

“No, because it’s right here.” He pulled out the staff.

“And you didn’t mention it because?” Tsunami replied

“You have three more to worry about.”

“It would have been nice!” Tsunami replied. “Never mind, let’s start planning the trips, let’s start with the Stone Staff.”

Thorn woke when she heard Smolder’s footsteps. She felt an odd warmth laying against her belly, and felt a burst of pride when she remembered that her daughter had fallen asleep with her. Sunny was still asleep, with Thorns wing cast over her. She opened her eyes to see Smolder’s bright smile as he looked at them.

“This is adorable.” He whispered.

Thorn smiled back at him, and enjoyed the moment with her daughter. She regretted losing her, and wished that she had never buried her in the sand. She leaned over and rubbed her snout against Sunny’s golden one. Sunny smiled in her sleep and leaned against the touch. Smolder curled around Thorn and lowered his head. Thorn greatly enjoyed this moment, with her daughter against her and her against her husband. This was one of those family moments she had wanted for over a decade. After a few hours, Sunny got up, and walked off to find the others. Thorn sighed to herself, and fell back asleep.
